Welcome to Ojira, backwoods capital word of this sector. More specifically, welcome to Barbuchaul, defacto capital due to its population size. At least it was, before the Armada went and used the planet like a shooting gallery from orbit. The Garvi nationals however didn't get the memo that they were supposed to rollover like a freshly glassed planet should. They've been coming out of bunkers like an angry antihill ever since. Three years to be exact, and the attrition has only been getting worse for everyone involved. The Armada of the Federation isn't in the business of pulling out of a campaign they initiated, so it's going to take alot more blood and resources to solve this problem.

Thats where our story comes in. Whats left of Barbuchaul has just become isolated and surrounded by Garvi forces after a surprise pincer attack. In the process, a fourth of the original force assigned to hold Barbuchaul and push through the region(which for months now has been requesting reinforcements due to increases enemy presence; i.e undermanned) has been trapped inside the city. Current radio chatter before the Garvi threw the SATnet over the city was that Garvis matched if not outnumbered the Federation forces. Communications are severely limited however, shortwave comms are about the only thing working right now and chain of commands are breaking down. Partisans and legitimate Garvi forces are supping into the city intent on routing out any remaining forces while they slug it out against the majority of Federation forces on the plains to the south of Barbuchaul. Suffice to say, things have been better for a Federation soldier in Barbuchaul.

RPers will be controlling fireteams of at least 4 members up to 10. combat roles of these fireteams are mostly infantry used to jack of all trade roles and occupation duty, but plenty of specialty forces have been scattered throughout the city trying to intercept Garvi pincer movement, or simply retreated into the city in the wake of the main southern push from the plains.Intel is limted at best, and non-existent at worse. Comms are the same.

Roster: I'd like to see a nice spread of combat roles, but I'm also open to suggestions.

Armor x1
Scout x1
Infantry x3

Making a post here so I can find it later. Cool maps.

One question and one suggestion. Question: can I play the role of a forward-deployed comms team instead of a more straightforward combat-oriented role?

Suggestion, kind of a question: is CO accurate in its description? Normally, a CO would oversee an entire unit, not just a squad. A CO would normally have around 40 subordinates in his command at the lowest, and much more is more likely. At a small size of 4-10, the unit leader would be designated Team Leader for 4-6, Squad Leader at 6-10, or they might hold a more specific title based on why they are. For instance, if your highest rank in the squad is an NCO (E-5 and E-4), you would have an NCOIC (Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge), or a SNCOIC or OIC for E-6 and above or officer and warrant officer ranks respectively. Alternatively, if you hold a specialized role you would function under a different title. Such as the mentioned comms team above, the individual responsible for completing the task at hand (delivering comms support to forward-deployed units) would be known as a kind of Chief, in this case a Comms Chief.

Or is it that there are COs here, that these units have been decimated soooo much that mass brevetting is the norm and your highest unit officer may very well be a warrant officer or lieutenant? I'm trying to make sure, because I want to be authentic in what rank my CO is, which will affect how they govern the squad.

^This.

I just kinda accepted it because its a WIP. However it is an important note to put in. Teamleader and Squadleader/fireteam leader would be the most appropriate terms I believe.

I like the team leader/squad leader idea, let's go with that. Com ms would work so your good to go with a sheet for that. Aaaand, any help on making some good maps would be appreciatiated.

I suck at maps, but I'm good with unit structure/behavior. If you need some organizing or want any input on how units would interact or behave in certain situations, depending on military customs (the Army and Navy have very different attitudes, for example) and rank (a Private might be eager and anxious in a situation where a Sergeant who's been there before becomes more serious and official, even if both of them were light-hearted to begin with), I can give you a hand. But maps elude me.

I am pretty good at squad tactics but better at designing scenarios/units.

Ideas:

I think the planet, or at least the city we are in should be somewhere cold, or rainy. Now adays a lot of combat based RPs are just somewhere hot, that's boring. All your char needs to do is drink plenty, in cold climates (especially ice) you gotta keep your temperature up, your water freezes and you could slip on black ice.

I'm currently coming up for ideas of vehicles as surely some of the non-armoured squads would have light recon vehicles? Similar to a Humvee, though less like a cardboard box.

Light Tanks
APCs

Also, the city map has been updated with coordinates. Anything south of the D-axis and west of 7 has been compromised by hostile troops.

Call-sign: Cactus Three Two

Combat Role: Communications Support Team

Number of combatants: 6

Armament: (1) M392 Designated Marksman Rifle, (1) M251 Squad Automatic Weapon, (1) M346 Underslung Grenade Launcher, (4) HEDP 40mm Grendades, (2) Red Star Cluster 40mm Signalling Flares, (2) M113A1 Service Pistols, (4) M16A7 Service Rifles, (2) M72 Frag Grenades, (2) M73 Smoke Grenades

Leader: SSgt Blackwood

Combat effectiveness: No injuries, no casualties, no spent rounds, lack of sleep/food, morale low

Location: B-7
Made up most of the weapon names with only a little basis in reality, but just take the description for what it is. Team is out of combat, but weary from long shifts attempting to keep communications working and forwarding along important information. Cactus Three Two probably won't interact with other squads outside of radio chatter, but anything could happen.

@Sep: This a monsoon region due to the mountains to the direct north and west. Currently its at the end of the dry season with the wet season to start any week now. dry season temperatures range from 50F to 80F, wet season being more akin to 30F-60F. It's going to get very wet and cold soon.

Onto geography. The map has been updated, a little creation of mine. There are steep mountains to the north of the city blocking any effective ground movement. The west has smaller mountains but also keeps ground forces pretty much limited to moving in from the south and east. The hostile army has moved in from the southwest, drawing out most of the forces into the eastern plane about two months ago, before a pincer moved in behind them three days ago following a similar northeasterly path, cutting off the city from any reinforcement. As of now, the remainder of the hostile army is coming up from the SW of the city, this time intent on sacking it while the two large armies slug it out n the eastern plan outside the city. It's our job to consolidate our forces and figure out our next plan of attack. A northern redoubt(coords B-7) south of the defunct airstrip(coords A-7) is being assembled as a MASH station and launch point.

Kangaroo, Sep, and Lance, you are all accepted. I should have an IC up tomorrow.
