When I can finally get my hands on a PC and see the forum in full form, I noticed that there is a character count beneath the box in which we post thread replies. While that's not a bad addition, but would it be nicer if we have word count instead of character count? When we write a text, its length is normally measured in number of words rather than number of characters, which is why word count could be more useful.

The character count is because we are limited to around 65k characters in a post.

Well, maybe we can compromise and have both?

I could add both, but what does word count provide?

Uh, I have to ask... has anyone actually written 65k words in one post?

Edit: Ohhhhhhhhh, 65k CHARACTERS! Well, that's only like 15k words. That's not too crazy horrific.

^ This. :p

And anyways... not much point to keeping track of words, except for rudimentary reasons, but could be useful more so in the gallery or such where there are writings involved, maybe some NaNoWriMo post? I guess just an added little thing that most people might use and take for granted... lol

I usually write most story posts in a simple text editor like Notepad. Then I usually use Word Processors to check my word count once my post is written, and check spelling and grammar as well. I've learned not to type out posts on a website and count on it to save them, even with Draft features. Sometime, somehow, a post always gets eaten and it's usually the one I've worked the hardest on.

lmao! I just read this. I didn't mean it like that. XD 15k words is really crazy in my own book even! But when I was thinking about it like 65k words (which is an entire month's writing for me) in one post, I was like, "Aghhh that is NUTS." But 15k words is at least not entirely nutty... I mean, it's far and beyond my own abilities... but compared against the 65k I was originally thinking of... it was a big difference.

65k words is way less than 15k words. It is only 11k-12k words (I know because of my posts). I have hit the character limit on several occasions (though only once with IC post; most is sheets/world info stuff). Long live multiple-posting due to lack of space!

As for posts containing 65k in words - *points at a certain RP world info Compendium, currently at 104'344 words (592'201 characters) and still growing*

Well, that's not one post, that's a whole RP, right? XD That sort of makes sense. I've had an RP that long before. ((Besides, there's not a whole lot of difference between 11-15k, at least I don't think so. Not with the volume of words we're discussing here.))

had a post that broke the former 50k limit easily. When we imported our RP from the backups, we had to stick it in 18 different posts because of the character limits.

Word count wouldn't really benefit us much, but if it benefits some and it is no trouble for you mahz (or for straining the server) why not? someone else might find it useful.

RadioActivity: No. One post, RadioActivity. It was indeed one post (well, several in a row by the same person, because old RP had characters-per-post-cap, too, I think somewhere around 300k) which contained info about the races and beasts and magic and places of the world.

(The RP's IC was... 1030-ish posts long, 1500-4000 words per post average. We hit 1000 posts two months before the old RPG went down . For the record, I usually do 2-4k words per post. Nation sheets are more to the 25k words-range.)

I kind of feel accomplished when I see how many words I've written.. .-.
