Hah, absolutely. I loved it, some people don't, but hey, everyone has their own opinion. I can see some of the criticisms, specifically "There wasn't any Godzilla in the first hour!,' but it helps to understand that Edwards was pulling both from classic Godzilla, and some elements of 70's 'monster' movies like Jaws, where the presence and impact of the character isn't always meant to be drawn from them being on screen, but (hopefully) from the genuine fear and confusion displayed by the human characters.

I thought it was great and a solid reboot for him. It had a different Kaiju, which in my mind was a damned good thing, also the 1950 godzilla didn't have him till about that long in and had about half the time he was on screen compared to the 30 minutes he was on screen here. Also with how Ken Watanabe's character did playing him up was perfect for the amount of screen time he had and just with the overall impact he had. Did I not like Walt's family (haha I made cooking meth jokes whenever he was on screen) yeah it was meh kinda bland when they were there, but overall the drama and whatnot from the human aspect of godzilla movies has always been the lowest point in the films. But all in all I thought it was definitely the movie to beat so far this year maybe the best "summer blockbuster" to come out (despite not being summer) and well I'm gonna see it again sooner or later. It was just a damned near perfect reboot for the series.

Absolutely, obviously the news is there's a 'sequel' in the works, and that's good to hear, because the series is definitely in good hands, especially if Toho remains as supportive as they were of this film. In a perfect world I'd like to see the Brody family phased out, as they're rather unremarkable and unnecessary, and have Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah all appear over the next couple films, because as a fan those names would provide a lot of weight, but also add to a potential over-arcing story line, to perhaps introduce Mechagodzilla as a mechanical weapon jointly developed by the world powers after the repeated Kaiju attacks, and growing unrest with the presence of Godzilla. They know he's there, but does everyone really trust a prehistoric apex predator to always be on humanity's side? No. Should they? Obviously, but that wouldn't stop humanity from assuming the worst and hedging their bets with a man-made, man-controlled weapon. This is all conjecture and fever dreams of a fanboy, but a dream is a dream nonetheless.

Definitely, I seriously cannot wait to see who/what they bring in monster wise, maybe one of the lesser ones like Angerus, or Megalon as well. And I agree with you on phasing the Brody family out, it seriously seems like Ken's character should've been main role but then WAM IED/whatever expert from america thrown into the mix with a tragic past...it just seemed so blah to me. Yeah I heard that right after I saw it last weekend, you know it's debut weekend lol, they are not wasting anytime, it's already made back what was spent and more at this point. But yeah us doing the fanboy gushing and whatnot I could see the fact they would make a giant mechanized weapon, although only reason kiryu was designed that way was because it had the first godzilla's bones as a support structure (first or second I forget which actually) and yeah that was crazy when I saw that as a kid lol.

@Kurai: Definitely, the ME universe is a place that deserves some good attention, and I get the feeling this'll be a fun ride.
