I really, seriously, have yet to work on this RP.

Name: Skokie 'Skokes' Tsubasa Gender: (putting it up for popular demand) | Role: Culinary (combat) botanist

Appearance and personality will be adjusted to fit information about this character as it is developed.
I was going to aim for a personality that completely mirrored Astrid's (distrust of technology and technophiles) and being a little too curious of physical ailments (in short, if you're growing scales, it doesn't matter what the bio-scanner says). Not very nitpicky about appearances, though.

Oh, and Skokes would be the streaker of the ship's crew, despite placing themselves at risk of explosive decompression (which on a ship this size is generally a lie).

Foster... The only one even remotely aware of scalegrowth is Morven, and nanotech medical care has evolved so far that its essentially considered to be perfect. The only ones who would even care about medical care of a nature not based on nanites would be extremely eccentric historians. Its similar in many ways to how many practice the arts of making flint tools in our society.

The ambiguous 'everyone' knows that nanites can cure every sort of injury/illness known to man as well as most of those unknown to man. People don't get curious about ailments... They simply take a nanite injection to fix it and go on with their life. No need to worry about it.

As for Morven's case... The changes to her body, while they are to a large degree physical, are also biochemical. As the changes occur, her mindset is similarly changed. Whatever it is that is changing her, it is also changing her so that she thinks nothing is odd about it. A bit like brainwashing, really. Its rewriting her entire DNA, one segment at a time, but in a fashion that makes it so that the nanites cannot find anything wrong, simply because there's discrepancy in it. When one segment is changed, it is done so in every cell that has record of that particular piece. Or so we understand our own concept, at least. The alien thingamajig isn't explaining everything to us yet.
DNA is supposed to be static, and the changes to her DNA are subtle, so records are somehow being updated to match her current DNA.

Cooking, on the other hand, that can actually make sense to have someone on board with skill at. No matter how you can make a gray gooey paste (or stuff like that) provide the nutrients needed, we can't readily see a day when humans wouldn't enjoy "real" food.

I actually don't mind the curiosity of ailments. Anthropologists of today study the habits of those with technology inferior to their own. There's no reason why someone with an interest in biology/biochemisty/bacteriology/etc. can't also have an interest in the antiquated field of medicine.

Ellri is right, though it might very well might be my fault for not outlining it better, that nanites have completely replaced the need for what we consider to be "medicine." So, Foster, while your character's interest and knowledge in the subject might be strong, it would be a niche thing, something rare to the rest of the modern galaxy. Do be wary that Ellri have desired their scales to be growing unbeknownst to the rest of the crew.

Flint tools are awesome, although I've read some good things about obsidian when it doesn't shatter on impact.

Yeah, it's going to take a few chapters for my character to find out about Morven. But more correctly, my character still strongly annoyingly suggests quarantine-procedures after landing-ops. Kinda like how 'Bones' is against teleporters spreading him all over the galaxy.

And the fear of tech isn't going to be from lack of understanding it, but more from a decent to scary grasp of what can go wrong.
-Granted, very, very small chance of something bad happening, ever... but, it may still happen.

So, pretty much to the same level of paranoia as those who said the LHC was going to end the universe.

Yeah... the pool to select decent primitive-style cooks was limited to super-eccentric historians and super-eccentric eco-terrorists.

You get both.

As our friends correctly say, nanites. They do all the work so that we don't NEED a doctor!

Anyways, still polling for gender to pick.

Would've defaulted to female because until Jorj made a CS, there was only one.

Up to you, Foster. The set up I gave showed that corporations possibly funded this mission out of the hopes of creating a reality game show, picking its members for its quirks, as much for their practicality to the mission. If you think female fits the quirks you want to play better, than shoot. If male, that's cool too.

Be female so Jason can be further misinterpreted as misogynistic when he tells her to go back to the kitchen! ;D

My subs failed and said this post was from just now O_o

Sorry for sending you away Kessa, just trying to get the whole brisk Military guy fleshed out. First scene I've ever done with a romantic element, so tell me how you felt it went. IT wasn't really ROMANTIC but there was a romantic connection obviously between him and his wife, I've never played with this emotions before in my writing so it'd be good to know what you felt about it.

That works, in addition to the fact that the 'Skokie' character is 'partially recycled' from another RP, and a few episodes of the Outer Limits.
-But for the most part, Skokie has been a female character (that or a trap, have fun with that thought).

Sep is the military-guru? And I'm the herbalist? WTF?!

Anyways, going to get out of work early for some tooth fillings tomorrow, so I'm going to try posting when I'm high as a kite.
-You've seen my sleep-deprived posts on IRC, my drugged posts are something special.

Dude. Having been in the military I understand completely. (I haven't read the post yet.) . I'll give/send you a critique tonight on irc if you're there or through PM if not.

Foster: ROTF. Dude. I'm a bona-fide frat boy. I usually rp female engineers with no interest in romance. This is a great rp.

You've met Cirno, have you not?

Also, apparently I don't have cavities at all.

But we can fix sobriety with good 'ol 40-proof moonshine.

I had a pretty good roll going to describe how Skokes modified the nutrient-cycle of the algea tanks to incorporate alchohol-production, and how this increased yield enough to allow a small but less-efficient victory-garden to take up space.

Also, how she happened to be working on biological weapons in an age where biological warfare is about as pesky as being tazered by a five year old girl.

Followed ofc by her immense distrust of AIs that talk.

And then I ctrl-W'd the window when trying to re-format the text.

Cool story, bro. But srsly, that sucks.

Posted. Just post with the Ellri, Foster, so you don't burn out due to lost postis. (That nasty disease of apathy due to having lost a post and not wanting to rewrite it all.)

]Gentlemen.

We must now ask the hard question of Kessa, whom wishes to deny romance in this RP:
What is love?

Prelude to a conversation is up, between Jason and Astrid, Kessa and myself respectively.

I sense some sort of rivalry coming between your character, Foster, and mine. Your's being biologically obsessed and mine being mechanically obsessed, but perhaps rather similar otherwise, they seem perfectly suited to competition, even if neither of them are particularly competitive.

That was part of the point. Or counter-point, to be more precise.

Also, I just saw Waters of Mars.

Just one drop.

My character takes it seriously, when the rest of the world thinks she's crazy.
