Alternate History: Fall of Rome

The Mediterranean, 476 AD

In 476 C.E. Romulus, the last of the Roman emperors, was overthrown by the Germanic leader Odoacer, who became the first Barbarian to rule in Rome. The order that the Roman Empire had brought to The Mediterranean for 1000 years was no more.

- In this alternate history scenario, Rome never fully divided into eastern and western halves.
- The fall of Rome has thrown their former territories into chaos, and the effects are being felt everywhere as anarchy and conflict strike.
- Many new states are forming around the once ordered and prospering Mediterranean Sea, rising from the ashes of the Empire. You are the leaders of these fledgling civilisations.
- Tech pre-industrial. Best will be around early renaissance-era.
- This is not historically accurate, as it is an AU. It would help to research who the leaders of whatever nation you are controlling would likely have been (if it existed in real life), but I won’t be too strict.
- You can choose to be whoever you want! Any requests I will consider, so long as they are on the map I will display below.
- Casual standards.

This RP will revolve around the conflicts and diplomacy between the civilisations around the Mediterranean. You can be any civilisation that seems realistic, please run them by me if in doubt. RPers can settle, trade, go to war, or merge with each others to form larger empires. There may even be NPC nations to interact with. Any other questions, requests and ideas you may have are welcome in this thread, and the OCC if there’s enough interest. 

This is my first proper NRP, so if any of you veterans out there have any suggestions, they are more than welcome!

This is the map I will be using to mark different nations and countries. I may or may not claim land for my own civilisation depending on whether or not people want NPCs, which I will operate if so.

You may claim land in the OOC thread, if people like the idea, once I devise a CS.

I am compelled to smack someone here.

I am highly in doubt a fall of Rome would have shifted things so much the Slavs - who by this point would probably be hanging out near the Caucus or sitting around being non-contributing in Ukraine - wouldn't find themselves in a position to shift so far west-ward they jump over Denmark and end up in Birtain, which even with Roman occupation was Celtic. And then the Danes invaded.

It tends to hurt the story when you do something you don't know enough about or you shoe horn in with the might of an atom bomb such impossible events as Slavic occupation of Britain. This is in a large part an insult on more than one party. Not to mention the context which has to be written in order for something as large as this would need to be very, very large. And the Slavs simply do not have the period strengths to do it.

And when doing alternate history you damn sure have to know what you're talking about. And when people who don't try to do big things it's only a headache. And it breaks immersion. I don't care if it's supposed to be funny or not, it breaks the immersion of the world.

The simple solution is to just not do alternate history and go pure fantasy or fictional universe. All your problems are solved.

I know full well that such an event is impossible, but I want to play it anyways, if only because it is simply alternate history and I am interested in such a scenario.

Edit:

I should Clarify, I don't need to have all of Britain, I'd be fine with a little nation of Slavs or even Romanized/Celticized Slavic peoples

The RP also encourages you at least perform some research on the matter. And as it is the Slavs are landlocked by a number of larger or same-sized cultures that wouldn't like them stomping about. In particular the Pomeranians. The Iranian Scythians (or rather, proto-Scythians) have the slavs blocked off for the most part from the Black Sea, and what regions they have on the coast hasn't produced a sea-faring people that the Germanic tribes along the north German coast and Denmark are. The unsolicited attempt at setting down any foundations in Britain is rather slim.

And back to the AU point: that may be true but even AU writers need to perform a lot of research in order to understand the events and means that made our world become what it is in order to write their alternate time-line.

Interesting. I had an RP idea like this in my mind a while back.

Hm thinking about playing a state based out in the Black Sea possibly encompassing it or maybe Taurica. Possibly a nation in the Caucasus...A lot to think about and to choose from...

Now ancient history is not my forte in history but wouldn't the Slavs be based out in Eastern Europe but not entirely Russia? Also did the Huns get repelled?

Historically, Yes, Slavs were centered around Eastern Europe in this time, particularly the areas of Modern Ukraine. Im trying to come up with a plausable scenario for an early Slavic Migration into Pomerania and then into southeastern Britian. But if Its really such a big deal, ill be content to play as Pomeranians and try and get Britain later

If you want to do something that is inaccurate that doesn't mean you aren't serious. In one NRP i used Nazi Japan and I was accepted.

Except, it isn't just the alternate history RPs, but ALL of his RPs. NONE of them go anywhere.

EVER.

And Work_U_Dumb and Shoop are both the exact same person anyway (this can be inferred from both user's very similar writing styles, exact same RP themes they try to get interest for, and their nigh-identical forum behavior), which makes his record even worse.

As of now, you have about 17 or 18 NRPs between both of your accounts that have ended in complete failure.

Put some effort into these things damn it.

Which actually isn't impossible given Fascism isn't a strictly European or German/Italian thing. You didn't help your case.
