Huh. '73. I'll stop nerding out on guns and focus on character now xD

Interesting, I'll have some semblance of a concept in to you by the deadline.

@Monochromatic Rainbow I did this for you, Mono, so shaddapa your face!

Next time I'll stick with my initial decision, ungrateful wretches...

Anywho, apart from being the advent of some pretty kick-ass weapons, '73 was also a good year for Indian Wars and general outlawery on the frontier. Of course, the frontier and thus the settlers had made good headway into the West by this date, but shizzle was still going down.

To be honest, the guns are superficial on top of the characters themselves- I got sudden inspiration when I started writing up my sheet and it'll take me a little longer than anticipated to iron out the details, but I rather like what I have in mind. If all goes well, I'll have it in to JB by the end of the day.

The extra time after 1865 is actually extraordinarily beneficial character-wise xD

I am interested in this. Though changing the time is going to make a big difference, the rail road was nearly complete and there was an economic crash that ruined a lot of cattlemen and other businessmen. The tension among northerners coming to Texas would be less though still present. Are you only changing the year for the weapons?

You know, I was thinking about that... I can already hear the groans from other people!

In all seriousness, I am looking for a year that you could call the 'golden age' of the Old West and, since I do not believe there really is one, am more drawn toward pre/during the Civil War or the earlier years - Oregon trail, beginnings of the railroads, more intense frontier life and that sort of thing.

Thoughts?

P.S.

Glad to know you're interested! @idlehands

My two cents is your original idea of it being just after the Civil War is spot on for South Texas. While Texas was in the Confederate States there was not many battles fought on its soil. When soldiers returned their homes were not in ruins like much of the south. This was when the big round up of wild longhorn cattle and the great drives north occurred and the area had a sense of wildness still. Native tribes had not been suppressed or driven north of the Red River or south of the Rio Grande. I know I've not been accepted yet but I think despite having to use muzzle loaders your original idea would be more interesting.

1868 would be a good year

Spread the word then, I suppose, 1868 it shall be! Someone tell Mono that their favourite gun hasn't been invented yet. :(

You a Texan as well, idlehands, or just knowledgable in such things? Interested in history, perhaps?

I am a native Texan from south Texas. If you grow up in Texas then you are obligated to take classes of the history of the state. Also interested in history in general.
