I thought it was artfully done with respect for the character. It's a necessary evil until I find an opportunity to softly write him out. I wanted to do it earlier, but I'm obliged to consistently tell a story without any lazy contrived crap. If it's forced, it'll look and feel cheap.

Shouldn't be long now though.

I might be incapable of posting the next week in fear of exams. It depends a bit on how big the workload will be, but no promises from my end.

Gawain sat paralyzed, sweat beading on his brow, praying the Monarch would not ask him anything about geography.

It's more like wishing the Monarch doesn't ask anything about safety design and CDM management plans for large crises like the 2011 earthquakes in Japan.

I'd rather have geography.

That does sound not too far off from what he's already asking Gawain, it's just for the 512 earthquake in Vicenna.

How could this disaster have been prevented?

Thanks for the update. If it comes down to it, we can skip over him without much harm. It a slower scene.

Alright, I've got something up.

I didn't like godmodding Aust but since he has been Annara's replacement horsie for the past day, I hope that I was still acting within reason there.

I have yet to see anything I would consider to be out-of-character for Aust, or unlikely given the situation. He cares more for Annara than he will admit, even to himself, so it's fine that all of his actions center around caring for her at the moment. Hopefully I'll have my new laptop before much longer, and this accursed spectatorship can end.

As for equipment, Aust would likely have lost or broken his bow when he was thrown from his horse or in the conflict after. The guards would have taken his longknife.

I'd also like to mention that Aust does posses enough magical talent to mend (if not fully heal) most minor or moderate wounds. Given the fact that he's exhausted from the traveling and probably at wit's end, it makes sense that he hasn't done it. Not to mention that any Aretan that saw/noticed would probably kill him on the spot now that they are in a city.

@Life in Stasis according to Roper (1990) the crisis could have been prevented through a thorough risk analysis. Is there magic present in the realm? If so, is this magic strong enough to cause the earth to 'vanish' or dissipate? What are existing countermeasures to prevent this?

All in all we can see the Viceni 'modus operandi' has left much to be needed and wanted, both by mages and common people. A big task lies ahead of them, such as installing more countermeasures that are cost-effective.

Or something like that.

I'm really glad you're still around, FW. Aust has the potential to be a really great character and I look forward to when you can write him again.

Thank you for the information. It's very helpful. Without retconning anything or making assumptions, I can use that as an excuse as to why Lothren feels better except for his more serious wounds.

I think it's safe to say though that he won't be using magic inside Udny Pass. Aust seems intelligent enough not to take that risk.

Very good. I can't wait hear how this will sound from a half dead knight.

@Life in Stasis Delegating 'likes' now, huh? You're starting to turn into a proper GM, I see. :P

@FateWeaver I actually suspected that Aust would usually be able to at least help Annara but I was kinda glad that he didn't so far. I feel like it would be a nice act of cooperation if Marcus had a hand in healing her, bringing the two groups together (at least for the three seconds before the knights lose their shit).

A website called nationstates.net lets you create your own nations according to your political ideals. After filling in the form, answering a short survey, and addressing some national concerns, I came up with the Kingdom of Aretaeus (Areta was taken). And I amused myself with this for awhile. Here are some screencaps.

Enjoy your new home, Viceni refugees.

Disclaimer: Should go without saying but I'll say it anyway: this is a joke and in no way canon.

It's a nice little site. I used to go on there frequently, although recently I've left my nation to rot. It's also one of the few sites where I think political arguments have a proper place.

It does provide some unique perspectives. I haven't entered in any of my real political ideas, but I think I'm too tired, at this point, to bother.

I think all that's left to post are Culluket, ZB1996, and ThatCharacter. Errant Son too, if he escapes the pressure of his finals. If anyone is waiting for anyone else to post first, now would be a good time to communicate that.
