Maybe it's because the truth is so unbelievable, their just shutting it down because "just to be sure".
Like, what if someone said to you that "ghosts are controlling the machines"? You'd laugh, but if you found out that somehow there are bodies in the machines, you know, "Let's just turn this shit off until we can find out why it's malfunctioning so badly". But they won't close down immediately because they would lose profit.
