Athena listened as the guy in front of her started...insulting the girl in front of him. Was insulting the right word? She was unsure. All the poor girl did was lean back, she might've been unaware of his desk being there.

Rolling her eyes slightly, she sent a small spout of air his way, aiming for the back of his head. It wouldn't be enough to hurt, she couldn't even do that yet. Not that she wanted to... much. It would just be enough to cause an annoyance, most likely, and get his attention. Now, as much as Athena didn't like confrontation and social situations, being such a bookworm she was slightly irked at his attitude towards studying books, and people who study from them. Making sure to mind her vine and flowers, she leant over her desk, her mouth opening before really thinking it through.

"What's so bad about studying to be good at something?" She asked, pausing for a moment. "The amount of friends a person has doesn't determine their worth, unless I guess you're shallow-minded like that." She said, her voice staying quiet. "If you know what's good for you, you'll listen to your friend there and cool it."

Were they friends? Perhaps. She didn't know. If she said 'seatmate' it wouldn't have sounded so good, but if they're not friends... 'Eh, if they're not friends it doesn't really matter. Worst case scenario it just makes me sound sarcastic.' Athena was proud of herself for confronting them, and she was beaming happily on the inside.
@Emma Glad to see interest!

I'll start working on the OOC, but I have questions for everyone;

1. For the location, America or Asia?

2. What kind of faceclaims do you prefer or does it not matter?

3. Regarding martial arts, should it be for everyone or just a hobby for a few? Personally I'm really liking the idea of each character having a hobby or two that can make them feel closer to the zodiac.
@Knight of Doom This is also a good idea! I really like that, so then it isn't a requirement but still gives a character a hobby to be closer to their zodiac. I think this will be one of the ideas I bring up before making the OOC, because I like it a lot.
@Zardoric Thank you for the input! The setting of the boarding school with the inclusion of a town everyone could build and explore was what I was leaning towards for the setting. The whole gang wars thing was just an idea being tossed around, and while I did say that the zodiacs could form "gangs" based on their rotation and/or fixed element, I use the term loosely. It would be interesting to see if all the winter zodiacs got along well together, or say, all the yin fire elements, but it certainly wouldn't turn into an all out gang-war scenario.

I think the idea of our characters not knowing eachother beforehand and joining a club is also nice (an astrology club, perhaps?). I wanted to add in the Cat because of the lore with the Cat/Rat feud, and while I don't want the cat to be left out, I don't want to add in too many animals and have it get so busy and out of control. Although at the same time, having a lot of people would mean a lot of interaction, and as long as people behaved and made sure to make it clear who they interacted with, I see no issues.

Whilst the idea of creating the missing martial arts is interesting and gives a lot of room for creativity, I'm afraid I don't know enough about it myself to comment (I only know taekwondo, I'm a sucker for astrology but not for sport). Perhaps someone with more knowledge could weigh in on this a little better.

@Buddha It could be! A very plausible idea indeed.

Since a lot of ideas are getting tossed around, once a few more people show interest I'll ask what everyone would prefer and see if we can incorporate the ideas and come up with someone everyone will enjoy. I myself am quite enjoying the idea development ;u;.
@Fubsy Quite possibly! But martial arts is still up in the air.

@Buddha I'll have to look up that documentary sometime. Since the martial arts aspect is still up in the air (but seems likely to be implemented), I am worried that some might not want to make one and some might not have enough knowledge to pull it off well.

Perhaps the original idea of elements could be implemented, giving people a choice of either martial arts or element control based on their zodiac. If tournaments and fighting ever came into play it could be separated between the two, but I'm unsure if it'll get too messy and complicated or not. I'm also open to ideas, but what's everyone's opinion on that? Martial arts could be interesting but difficult for those who might not know enough about it, but elements seems a little cliche, although everyone will be able to pull it off fairly well.
@Buddha I've heard of the anime, but never watched it. The martial arts is still up in the air, and I was originally planning on this being a really casual thing that doesn't require too much, but a plot like that would certainly spice things up. I could definitely see "gangs" forming between the zodiacs based on their rotation or fixed elements, but the poor cat would be left out.

As for faceclaims, I don't mind which people use. I've seen people use all types of faceclaims, so unless everyone would prefer a fixed type then I don't mind. The country will probably be in either America (It seems like most people are familiar with that, but it doesn't mean the characters have to be american) or Asia, to fit with the whole idea of it being Chinese lore.
@Knight of Doom I'm so glad to see you're interested! Extensive knowledge of the lore isn't necessary, the essentials will be explained in the OOC, but I'm glad to see a martial artist on-board! ;u;. If nobody else is interested in creating the Tiger character then it's all yours, if there is someone else then I'm sure things can be worked out.

@Buddha To be honest I didn't quite think It'd get any response ahah, so it makes me happy to see so much interest. I'm thinking of a way to incorporate the two settings without it being overly complicated, but it seems like the most favourable and creative.

@Fubsy That's along the same lines I was thinking, actually. It would be a small town to minimise confusion, but the close quarters of a boarding school would allow for interactions, especially if things such as roommates are put in.

I'll start ironing out the OOC once a couple more show interest, if anyone has any ideas or comments in the meanwhile feel free to bring them up either here or in a PM ;u;.
@Pink Madness Glad you're interested!

Does anyone so far have a preference over the setting? I might try and get an OOC up when 7-8 people have shown interest or so, hopefully more people will jump in then.
@Fubsy Thank you for voicing interest!

@Buddha I'm glad you're interested! I used the anime as an example for anyone who's familiar with it to explain better, but everything the anime covers will be covered more in the OOC (If enough people voice interest to get one going). So as you said it would be possible for you (and anyone else who isn't familiar with the anime) to partake!

@Zardoric I did some research last night and found a lot about the martial arts styles. I'm thinking of a possible way to incorporate them, since I couldn't find anything about the dog style you mentioned and a couple others, but I think I have a few ideas.
After multiple more tries, Athena had finally managed to get a few flowers on her desk. Cheering silently, she tried making a small vine. 'Careful... careful...' she lectured herself, putting all of her concentration into it. She was still frustrated about her previous failure, but pushed it to the back of her mind as she kept trying. She got the vine to grow. Not too long, so it didn't wrap around her desk, but it was long enough for her to feel proud of it.

The girl jumped at the sound of someone slamming their hands on the table, her concentration waning and fear kicking in. A few of her flowers scattered, but two remained upstanding. She realised it was one of the students in front of her that got frustrated, and his seatmate seemed to be starting a conversation. 'I guess neither of them are Earthies.' Athena giggled to herself at the nickname she'd come up with, folding her arms on her desk, then proceeding to rest her head on them.

She'd done enough earth magic for the day, she could just hope that her scattered flowers didn't land on anyone's desk and cause an annoyance. Letting herself relax, she listened to the conversations going on in the room whilst daydreaming about what the next class would be like. It was usual for her to do this in classes that weren't Air or Combat, so the majority of professors didn't mind it so long as she tried to do the work and had something to show for it. Thankfully, her vine was still standing sturdy after her scare. Perhaps it was a good thing that it wasn't too long.
