My mice won't move in the right direction

My once-reliable laptop nipple mouse gravitates very strongly upwards no matter which direction it's pushed, so it's entirely unusable

My USB mouse twitches as if it's in pain, though that may be because I'm using an embossed hardcover book for a mouse mat.

I saw a pair of unusually small turtledoves today

Maybe they were fledglings from the same nest. There was also a magpie singing on a streetlight, and another kind of dove I can't identify out in the woods.

They both sound completely destructive to a human mind, but while the second one would probably lead to a lot of obsession and paranoia about going back to the exact right time and choosing out of many trivial decisions for their subjective merit, the first one would either overwhelm and kill (and/or enlighten) me, or cause me to transcend conscious thought and become some kind of god on earth. I'd go for the latter. It feels like the premise for a Lovecraft story.
