I'm interested and curious to hear more about the supernatural and occult elements of the plot if and when you're ready to share! If I need to be more specific than that:

What kind of "happenings" did you have in mind? And how much of an influence do you see the supernatural and occult having on the characters and overall plot?

I'll bite! First, a little context. I work at the butchering facility for a small, family-owned rancher operating out of the Canadian Prairies. The facility I work at is not that old, having been built in 2015, but some sections of the building were brought down from the ranch, which is a few hours away and has been settled by the family for well over one hundred years at this point. One of these sections is the large walk-in freezer I work alone in.

There are no windows in the freezer, but one of the most frequent spooky occurrences is person-sized shadows passing over me. Yes, sometimes my co-workers (the butchers or other front end staff) will come into the freezer for one reason or another, but there is only one entrance and, to be frank, it's a goddamn mess in there, so maneuvering in and out that quickly without me seeing them would be next to impossible. Plus, they're far too busy to be spending time pulling pranks on the hermit in the freezer. I see a lot of shapes and shadows out of the corner of my eye, too.

On several occasions, I have smelled things that are out of place but familiar: straw and manure are the two most distinct unexplained smells that will appear and disappear throughout the day. Again, the ranch itself is hours away, and there are no (live) animals on or near the property aside from a couple of cats, so I have no idea where these smells could be materializing from.

My two most unsettling experiences were being pushed from behind while bending over to pick up a box (while I was completely alone), and seeing a tall figure standing behind my boss through an open doorway while I was driving onto the property. In the case of the latter, I first assumed my boss's husband was visiting the property that morning, but when I asked her if he was there she looked surprised and said he was at home on the ranch and there was no one else in the building with her.

Some of my co-workers have also experienced strange things, namely the facility administrator, who sometimes works late and will be the only person in the building. She often reports strange noises (tapping, footsteps, groans, and even the occasional door opening or closing elsewhere in the building), and has seen what she describes as orbs on the security feed, which she can see from her desk.

I'm a fairly skeptical person, and I'm still not completely convinced that all of these things could be explained away one way or another, but, maybe, just maybe, there's no way to explain it at all.

There's something in the shadows
In the corner of your room
A dark heart is beating and waiting for you
There is no open window,
but the floors still creep
In the room where you sleep

In the Room Where You Sleep

A Supernatural Horror 1x1 Search

Welcome! Let's kick things off with an elevator pitch:

In the Room Where You Sleep is an episodic, supernatural horror drama roleplay following a husband-and-wife team of paranormal investigators as they probe alleged cases of hauntings, demonic possession, and other unexplained phenomena.

If you're still with me, hello! I'm Quixotica, but you can call me Quix. I've recently entered my third decade of life and 16th year of roleplaying - give or take a handful of breaks from the hobby.

I'm an advanced roleplayer who values in-depth plots, well-defined characters, immersive settings, rich descriptions, and the proper implementation of narrative structure and flow.

I'm currently seeking an advanced-level, long-term writing partner to develop and write this concept with. I am only asking for a minimum of one two-paragraph (or longer) IC post a week and a mutual effort to keep OOC conversation rolling on a semi-regular basis.

Now, back to the plot.

For context, this was inspired by the lives and work of Ed and Lorraine Warren of The Conjuring series fame. Ironically, I wasn't a massive fan of the films, but I did enjoy the Warren's dynamic, which is primarily what I wanted to borrow for this - well, that, Lorraine's sixth sense, and a setting where all manner of ghouls, apparitions, and entities go bump in the night.

I'm hoping to explore the concepts of marriage and family and how these institutions might be affected not only by the very real physical and spiritual threats the couple face on a recurrent basis, but also by the increased public scrutiny their chosen profession attracts. I would also like to implement a serialized structure to the narrative, with each 'episode' focusing on one case - our characters effectively functioning as the connective tissue tying it all together.

As far as where the roleplay is to take place, I'm open to a private thread here, PMs, or Google Docs. OOC can happen through PMs or Discord.

If you're interested, send me a PM!
