Mat as he prefers to be called when away from home is a typical tween boy who is obsessed with video games, and getting into trouble. While many children are close with their families Mat seems to be the outcast so to speak, preferring to stay away and spend the night with his friends instead. In fact, the only sibling he can stand is Tatiana as he feels she's a role model. Very bright, Mat does well in all his classes without really having to apply himself, evidence that he is in the wrong classes though he would probably commit murder if someone tried to move him out and away from his teammates and friends. A true team player, he plays on the Baseball team, football team, and basketball team and the sense of responsibility and sportsmanship is deeply ingrained inside him.

A sports fanatic, Mat has a passion for anything requiring him to get sweaty and get that thrill of competition. Football, basketball, baseball, soccer, swimming, wrestling are just a few. Other than that roaming the town and the outskirts with his friends and teammates takes up most of his time. His one hobby outside of sports is video games.

As the last child born to the Díaz family, Mat is the one that seems to be the one that got away. Brought up much the same way as his siblings with the perfect expectations and constant parental supervision it wasn't hard to begin getting rebellious. He defied his parents most of his early childhood even, though he always knew how to toe the line, bringing both his mother and father to a boiling point and then finding a way to simmer it back down. A major point of contention and one that almost got him beat by his father was his ignoring schoolwork to play sports, and taking lower academic level classes to be with his friends..

From the time Caleb came screaming into the world he was assailed by expectations and plans. Being born into a highly religious family Caleb was brought up memorizing bible verses and spending his weekends at the local church where his father 'led the flock' so to speak. He struggled to make friends, preferring to stick to the shadows and find other dwellers of the sidelines to interact with. Living with the massive expectations and fearing failure Caleb has some self-esteem issues and he gets frustrated very quickly if he fails to learn something. When someone is able to break into the self-doubt and perfectionist attitude they would find that Caleb is one of the loyalist friends you could have and despite his sideline status he's easy to talk to and connect with, having a smile that seems to just make those talking to him feel at ease. In addition to being a nervous wreck living up to his so called 'rolemodel' status Caleb also struggled heavily with the fact that he is gay and the thought of his family finding out scares him more than anything else in the world.

Caleb was taught from an early age how to play the piano but he seemed to have something special as he took to the instruction with ease and was soon playing far beyond not just his skill level but his age and started playing the piano for the church, accompanying the choir and even helping out with the music reading during practices. When he's not practicing the piano Caleb can normally be found in his room with a good book, or composing music since his parents banned video games long ago. If not there outside around town with his camera trying to get some good shots for the town paper.

A rough childhood could be the main description that comes to mind when one studies the early life of Caleb Caverly. His father had just gotten the minister position at the town and having a newborn disrupting church services was simply not going to be tolerated. Caleb was left with his grandmother to be cared for most of the time and he didn't really get to see his parents other than dress up events that required them to look like the typical all American family. His grandmother passed away when he was 4 and the loss hit the boy quite hard. It was then that Caleb found that his father had a temper... He grew tired of the boys sniffling right before the funeral at the church and spent about 15 minutes 'explaining' that such conduct was not going to be allowed and between his fathers screaming and the hand that kept hitting him he understood that things had changed and he had better get used to them.

As he grew older Caleb fell into the fake life that he lived to ensure his fathers temper stayed check. He played little league baseball, soccer, and basketball and -tried- to make friends but other than telling him good job on a certain play no one on the team really seemed to want or try and make friends with him. The only place where he felt safe to be himself was sitting at the piano and unloading all his emotions into his playing and the music he had started to compose. His favorite moment during the week was choir practice where he got to help the members learn new music and run them through it. While he couldn't sing to save even his own life he understood music at a deep level and while he didn't know it he possessed perfect pitch as well.

At fifteen, Caleb is a two different people. The one that everyone in the community sees and the real Caleb afraid to take a single step out of the shadowy mind that he calls home for fear of being beaten back into submission. The secret he keeps of his sexual orientation is a constant fear and he deliberately tries to stay away from any situation where someone could find out though in gym and sports it's became much harder.
