Akibahara: the city of hope and despair. Both blessed and cursed, the city has the highest average in educational prowess, and the highest rate of committed suicides in Japan. The shining skyscrapers and the dark alleys beneath them share the same sky and people, coexisting and joined together like a spiral helix of life. It is here where our story begins, and where the stage is set for the destiny of the chosen to unfold.

A lone girl was watching the setting sun from the rooftop of a white, majestic school building, and saw how the city was cast in a sombre shine of gold.
Her long, black hair weaved in the light breeze as her purple eyes looked down on the city like a pair of glittering jewels. The girl's clothing was compact, yet stylish: Her black tights were sided by purple diamond-shaped patterns. Her skirt-and-shirt combination also had triangular designs and decorated with a purple bow on the chest, but was not very complex otherwise. It resembled the style of the local school's school uniforms, but it had a dark, mystical quality to it.

She saw how certain kids of this school came down the streets in groups or alone, smiling and laughing as they passed through the open door of the school. She sighed quietly, and continued looking at the sunset, a look of unyielding determination in her eyes.

A short moment later, she heard the group behind her, and turned around to see a group of kids coming up the stairs. Among them were Nora Kiddo, Yami Ishida, Kaede Imori, Hotaru Mitsuho and a blue-haired girl that just arrived. The kids did not expect to meet this girl who was the same age as they were, and the blue-haired girl asked: "Are you Qubus?"

A moment of silence passed when the mysterious girl looked at the group, until she finally said in a cold, emotionless voice: "So, it seems that you have decided to become Magic Knights then." You could see a purple jewel embedded on the backside of her hand, and understood that she was not the white ferret that summoned you here. She flipped her hair.

"Fools."

Funny thing was, I had an Arcana planned for her already, but Hotaru was such a perfect candidate for it I decided to give it to her instead. I have been juggling around with some ideas, but so far they have either been broken beyond comprehension or not fun at all.

That aside, I find it interesting that nobody really picked a ranged weapon.

Hotaru Mitsuho

Name: Hotaru Mitsuho

Gender: Female

Age: 14

Appearance: Hotaru is a little small for her age, at 4'7” and 67 lbs. She doesn't really mind, however, as it allows her to wear cute clothing without being harassed for being 'unfashionable.' Her hair is a whitish blonde and she has pale green eyes, which can appear to be amber in the right light. She likes to have enough hair to style, so she tends to let her hair grow long enough to touch her shoulder blades. As could probably be guessed, she rarely wears her hair the same way two days in a row.

The clothes that Hotaru tends to wear are clothes that are easy to move in: shorts and regular t-shirt for the most part in the warmer months and loose pants and light jackets or coats in the colder months. Regardless of what type of clothing she is actually wearing, it is pretty much a guarantee that it will consist of bright or pastel colors, usually coupled with cute images or some other form of decoration.

Personality: Hotaru is about as selfless and caring as they come, which means that she has a relatively easy time making new friends. However, her compassion also makes it easy for people to use her friendship against her, as she has a terrible time saying 'no' to the request of a friend, no matter how inconvenient it is for her. That's not to say that it isn't possible for her to say 'no,' especially when fulfilling the request would cause her to go against one of her values.

It is also interesting to note that it is incredibly difficult to get Hotaru angry or irritated, as she has quite a lot of patience. In fact, the only sure-fire way to get on her bad side is to hurt someone, whether physically or emotionally. She has no patience whatsoever for that kind of behavior, and it has gotten her in trouble more than once, usually because she gets into fights with bullies. Even in those cases, she is still quick to forgive and forget, a trait that was instilled in her by her own actions in the past.

Despite being cheery and upbeat most of the time, it isn't too hard to notice that Hotaru seems tired most days, as she has an easy time falling asleep and tends to yawn a lot throughout the day. She usually shrugs off questions concerning the issue, saying that everything is fine, when in reality, she just doesn't get much rest from sleeping due to chronic nightmares.

History: The most significant event to occur in Hotaru's life thus far was the kidnapping of herself and her younger brother one day when she was on her way home from school. At the time, she was around five, and her brother had been three. It wasn't as if they were unsupervised either; their uncle was taking them home. The event just occurred so quickly that there was no way to prevent it.

The man was planning on holding the two of them for ransom, as their parents were fairly well-off, but that didn't mean that he was above having a little fun with the two of them while he was at it. He would lock Hotaru in a box that was barely bigger than her and leave her there for a few hours while he had fun with her brother. She never knew exactly what he was doing, though she could always hear her little brother's screams every so often.

After two days, the police managed to track down the man and made contact. When it became clear that diplomacy wasn't going to work, they stormed the building. Unfortunately for all involved, the man was armed with a semi-automatic weapon and refused to go down quietly. In the ensuing firefight, her brother was fatally wounded as the man pulled him in front of himself as a human shield, attempting to force the police to surrender. When that plan failed, he grabbed Hotaru and ran up the stairs to the roof of the building.

Shocked at what had happened to the boy and afraid that it would happen to Hotaru, the police held fire while the man ran up the stair, giving chase immediately afterward. Unfortunately for the man, he had nowhere to run and was running out of time, so, in a fit of desperation, he jumped off the roof of the three story building, pulling Hotaru with him. The two of them fell through a tree, hitting quite a few thicker limbs towards the bottom which caused several broken bones in each of them. In hindsight, it had been a pretty terrible plan, as the police surrounded them almost immediately after they hit the ground.

From the fall, Hotaru had broken three ribs, her left calf, and her right wrist and shoulder. The fact that she had managed to grab some branches during the fall, coupled with her landing in a blooming bush, were what ensured her survival. Her physical injuries, however, were nothing compared to the psychological wounds she had obtained. In addition to developing acute claustrophobia and acrophobia, she also blamed herself for being unable to protect her younger brother, as an older sibling should be able to. Even with many years of therapy since the incident, she still can't get rid of that lingering feeling that she failed her brother.

Favorite Color: Silver

Dreams: To become a member of law enforcement to protect people or change the world to reduce conflict forever

Fears: Hotaru, apart from being claustrophobic and acrophobic, fears that people she knows will get hurt, that she won't be able to protect people, and more typical things for a teenage girl, like being unable to make friends or failing a test at school.

Likes: Making people happy, cute things, sour foods, sunny days, being outside, being active, animals of all kinds, smoothies, sparkling water, sweet tea, and vegetables

[b]Magic Knight Uniform: Hotaru's Magic Knight Uniform takes the form of, well, a knight, embodying her desire to protect others. The gem is embedded into the breastplate of her armor.

Chosen Weapon: Much like her uniform, the form of Hotaru's weapon is all about defending others, taking the form of a brilliant blue shield. While her shield is primarily used for defense, she is also able to throw it and make use of it as a projectile weapon, able to remotely control its flight path to some extent.

Other: Hotaru has a rather severe milk allergy, which means she has to follow a non-dairy diet, in addition to being a vegan.

Name: Kaede Imori

Gender: Female

Appearance:
Kaede's preferred outfit is a pair of dark trousers coupled with a blue turtleneck sweater. For shoes, she sports simple dark dress shoes with matching socks. As for her physical appearance, her most prominent trait is her long, dark hair, neatly cut at the forehead. Her face is almost as simple as in appearance, with the only feature to stick out are the dark bags surrounding her maroon eyes after many sleepless nights. Her skin is of a milk-white variety with few distinct blemishes; save for a scar running horizontally across her left shoulder. Additionally, the shoulders themselves are somewhat broad for a female, giving her a tougher-looking physique than what she actually has. Just as well, her waist is wide as well but correlates appropriately with her shoulders.


Personality:
At this moment and time, one emotion dominates Kaede's life: guilt. Indeed, it is the guilt of a past decision that has tore away at her once joyful and peaceful attitude. While she was one of the kindest stock, she is now more aggressive in demeanor and often feels the need to defend her actions out of fear that her guilt will grow. This, of course, supports the fact that she is overly sensitive and reacts poorly to criticism, constructive or no. One would not be wrong to suggest that she acts on intuition and emotion rather than observation and logic, making her a poor leader despite her domineering spirit. Her saving grace, however, is her constant desire for some sort of humor - a common remedy for anyone's frustrations. Her favorite genre of humor is the sort that usually comes at the expense of another. On the other hand, she's very work oriented and abhors laziness; and as a side note, she also detests disobedience of any kind, giving her a rather conservative wrap. Contrasting to that wrap, though, is the fact that she prefers unorthodox approaches to life's obstacles, so long as they work that is.

History:
Whatever higher power exists, it was rather kind to Kaede in that she was born to a wealthy family. Her father was a physician, a master of his trade as well, and her mother was a famous psychiatrist who was often away from the home. As it was expected, the bulk of Kaede's parenting came from a nanny, the most memorable being Frazzie Wolfe, an immigrant from the Netherlands. Frazzie was perhaps Kaede's sole provider in the moral field as well, giving the you girl many interesting lectures on what consequences arose from certain actions. It would have been impossible, though, to get a young girl to listen to such lectures but Frazzie always told them in such ways that they were difficult to ignore. Indeed, Frazzie was also very nurturing; so much so that you would have thought she was Kaede's birth mother if the two were not different races. In addition to the spoiled lifestyle provided by her parents, her childhood was almost picture perfect.

When it came to school, things were almost as well. As her family was able to afford the best private schools, she was provided with the best education and a sound work ethic. There may have been rarer times to socialize in these diligent schools, but Kaede had barely any trouble surrounding herself with a circle of friends. The most prominent in this circle was Cho Yamamoto. Time and time again, Cho proved to be as faithful to their friendship as a saint. The same could be said for Kaede towards the friendship as well, except for one incident: at the age of thirteen, Kaede was fed a vicious lie from one of her other friends - a lie that suggested Cho was spreading rumors about Kaede. Rather than confront Cho about it, Kaede instead decided to scare her as an act of vengeance. Kaede, having saved up her allowance, hired a local thug to mug Cho on her way from school. The mugging however, took a dark turn when Cho resisted and was shot and killed. When word reached, Kaede, she was devastated, and even more so when she found out her friends had lied to her about Cho.

The murderer was never caught, but Kaede was quickly swept up in an unending typhoon of guilt. It should be no wander why she became an insomniac.

Name: Yami Ishida

Gender: Male

Age: 15

Appearance: Yami stands at the respectable height of 5'11, rather tall for someone his age, and he's still growing. He has a rather angular, mature face, with a chiseled jawline that doesn't show any baby fat that he may not have. His skin is a fair pale, contrasting greatly with his oddly electric blue eyes and dark black hair. His hair itself is sort of wild, in wavy black locks that wisps everywhere, with a few locks going over his forehead. His normal choices for clothing's usually sleek, collared jackets, regular jeans, and high-top sneakers made for quick movement. He usually keeps on black underarmor.

Personality: Yami is calm, determined, and focused, with an over-casing of serious to seal the deal. He's generally quiet unless he feels the need to speak, or if he's spoken to, and even then he formulates words easily, with the same calm tone he keeps with everything. He isn't one to throw his problems or questions onto other people, but if someone wants to confess something to him, be it personal or a general question, he listens with honest ears, and in return, would give you an honest answer.

Yami won't lie unless he dislikes you, or doesn't trust you at all. Whenever asked something by people he's completely neutral to, or people he actually likes, Yami responds with the calm bluntness of a rampaging rhino. Whether or not it hurts your feelings, Yami speaks the truth, mostly to help the person asking the questions rather than hurting their feelings and causing drama, another thing that Yami hates with a passion.

Not a big fan of big groups, loud people, and immature brats, and is usually the calm voice of reason in many stressful situations. Has some of the qualities of a leader, though his introversion and lack of social skills evens it out.Despite his calm casing, Yami is quick to turn aggressive when threatened with physical harm, and is the one of the first ones to attack when in a fight.

History: Despite how overused it may seem, being raised in a tough family is true enough, something Yami learned early on. He has three big brothers, bigger than him by 5 years, along with a father whom served in the military for 20 years. Life was rough on him, but not financially wise. It was just that...Yami was bullied by his brothers constantly, mostly because he was less bulky and meat-headed, and more lean, smart, and colder. He would always wake up and jog, while his brothers would spend hours in their room, lifting weights with their father. It seemed like he was the odd one out. Eventually, after getting in a fight with his biggest brother, Jerry, and blatantly using the cheapest tricks to beat the giant (Nut shot, knee to the face, choke slam), he was given a bit of respect. They eventually moved out to another town, where Yami began his life much in the same average way...until something quite peculiar happened.

Favorite Color: Red - Crimson (Hes inspired by Fire, and therefore red has become something of meaning and great importance to him.)

Dreams: To either become a well-known military commander, or do something meaningful in his life.

Fears: Total humiliation, and drowning.

Likes/Dislikes: Exercise, rest, and video games.

Wish: He wishes to become like Fire - Strong enough to beat anyone who may threaten him, or anyone he cares about.

Chosen Weapon: The weapon Yami chose was a curved, jagged-edged dagger that seemed to be made more for tearing flesh and causing pain, rather than ultra-swift and clean slices. It was rather medium-sized, the hilt being thick and long enough to be grasped in one hand, and the blade being a deep crimson with black edgings, double-edged and jagged.

Other: He owns a red and black motorcycle.

Name: Nora Kiddo

Gender: Female

Age: 13

Appearance: Nora is a very conservative person. She wears hoodies and does not often break this habit. Her hair is usually up in a pigtail and she wears shorts. Her hair when down is normally in the middle of her back. Her hair is dyed green and her eyes are brown, but can be seen as 'red' in a certain light. She stands at about five foot four, and her physique hints at the fact that she'll soon reach six feet.

Personality: Nora can be distant with strangers, but warm and cordial when with friends. She prefers to have a joke on hand and her fist in the other in case things go sour. Nora usually doesn't try to joke with people she doesn't know or deem a threat. Nora's thoughts are taken up by the idea that one day she will die, and doesn't want to die the way her parents did. She doesn't want to die and pass from memory either. Nora doesn't like fighting, but she figures that if she needs to fulfill duties set forth by someone, then that's her job. She doesn't neglect things that need to be done, and she doesn't like it when others ignore important jobs. Nora is usually categorized as class clown by most teachers in students, but neither group knows her very well.

History: When Nora was five, her whole family died in a large blaze that left Nora homeless and alone. Nora bounced around, from foster home to foster home. She learned one thing in her time in homes. She wouldn't be picked on if she was funny. So she started to be the funny kid. She started to play at a game that she was funny and that nothing bothered her. It ultimately worked, until she was finally adopted. She no longer had to hide behind others to get food, or gang up on others to make sure her status was ensured.She now had to deal with a normal-ish family life which meant that she had to figure out who she was now.

Favorite Color: Black

Dreams: Floating on a cloud, far from harm or other people.

Fears:Fire, Dying, and Spiders.

Likes: Reading, quiet, and joking around.

Dislikes: Being too serious, people who are forgetful, and abandoning duties.
