As the Cocksquid, the abomination of alloy engineered in the heat of the moment by Bug, crawled closer, and Horst began turning back, still shaking in unnerving fashion, Mema-Ka had decided on a heroic, or at least pragmatic, sacrifice for the sake of team Apple. Raptor’s parts audibly groaned as misaligned parts forced into a new and faster configuration, dropping Logic Dover in the process.

“Mema?” Elora yelped in surprise, and then saw as Horst’s Multiform extended, only to see Arrish himself pop out of the hatch, carried aloft by jet boots on the suit and wielding his Maser. While she was confused at first, she now understood that Guinevere had taken control of the Frame, and was about to stab Raptor in the back.

“No…” Her eyes widened in shock. She needed to do something before it was too late. But what? She spotted the drone on Horst’s back, but the Frame had turned to face them before she had a chance to shoot it off. She remembered the technical details for the possession system including drone compatibility…by the use of remote communications.

In a flash of insight, Elora activated the Hyperwave Array system: even if it was partially broken and unreliable, it was still capable of sending signals. She pushed forward with the chassis jets, and turned the output systems to maximum: at that moment, the vicinity was filled with garbage frequency at various bandwidths, causing the drone, and the Dancer virus by proxy, to slow down to a crawl as it attempted to filter through all the commands and find the correct ones amidst a sea of electromagnetic refuse.

As the drone slowed down, so did Horst, and it reared back with the held spear as if striking a pose, giving just enough time for Arrish to shoot at the drone with the Maser just as it was about to thrust: the shot made its mark, the beam having hit the drone right in the core, causing it to detonate. The forward movement of the Frame stopped mid-motion, causing the Horst to comedically fall forward like an action figure, the spear audibly creaking from the weight as it was stiffly held, the tip embedded into the concrete. Logic Diver’s Hyper Array also broke down, the antenna having crackled one last tiny flash before it smoked like a chimney. But Elora was content as she watched Arrish swoop back into the hatch, having done something useful with the system.

Raptor advanced, shooting a Rocket Anchor that lodged itself into the Cocksquid’s twisted torso, and the jet-like Frame reeled in fast: it dove in with a flying kick, followed by flashes of light as the Attack Drones’ plasma reactors were set for self-destruct protocols.

Bug, knowing that Mema-Ka would proceed to escape, attempted to hack in two ways: the first was to lock down the exit hatch with remote hacking even as the pink piece of scrap metal was caved in by the mighty kick, and the second was to attempt to a forced Kattai of Cocksquid and Raptor. Big was successful, but only with the latter, as he had failed to realize that the doors only had electronic systems for closing and opening the exit hatch, and no electronic locks. However, he did succeed with the Kattai command, and nano machines began consuming both Framework's, just as Mema-Ka was able to wrench the manual release open and ascend out.

As the Kattai system began to fail, the emergency eject system activated as a safety measure, launching Bug out of the cockpit right before the two Frames violently combined, resembling a horrific heap of scrap metal and wiring; the Kattai system had failed to recombine Squid and Raptor due to Cockroach being stuck in the middle. The self-destruct mechanism activated, causing a huge explosion: while far enough not to be caught in the radius, the shockwave sent the two pilots to ascend.

High above the battlefield, between heaven and earth, the two pilots suddenly came face to face. Like in an old western duel, except one in a frontier town made of clouds, they reached for their Masers.

However, one of them was quicker on the draw.

Argent Wings, in a daring maneuver, vaulted to the top of the megabuilding, the concrete cracking under the Frame’s weight, yet still holding the Light Framewerk without collapsing.
Then, like an avenging angel, the Frame disabled all limiters, and twin red lights on the chassis, like the eyes of a demonic face, flashed open, followed by twin streams of Marker Light rounds that streaked downwards, not dissimilar to Aurora’s Gatling Gun fire.

Elora saw the attack coming, and fired back with the Automatic Battle Rifle.

“YAAH!” She screamed as the hyper-accelerated rounds ripped through her round Frame’s armor, but she still fired. Then, something began to happen [Humanity’s Potential]: the virtual reality simulation began to slow down for all participants, yet Logic Diver was frame-skipping past the slowdown, allowing her to get more shots in, a phenomenon unforeseen before. As a result, Elora managed to tear through the knee joint of one of Argent Wings’ legs [Speed reduced by 3, total 5]. But ultimately, the slowdown ended as a round pierced through the cockpit, and Elora’s heart.

[Elora disconnected]

“AAH…Aah….aah…”

Elora briefly screamed as her consciousness returned to reality before dissipating away with exhaustion, and she lifted the interface helmet. Alarmingly, small wisps of smoke were pouring out of it. The engineers running the VR turned frantic, muttering about how that was not supposed to happen, and Lorenzo took a sharp look at the diagnostics on his device, an eyebrow raised at the information collected.
“To think it spiked that high, and was able to even corrupt the program…Fascinating…”, he mumbled.

Elora looked pale and sickly, sweating profusely. Though she wasn’t dry-heaving like Aurora, the experience had definitely taken a toll on her, as she doubled over on her seat, her head over her knees, her shallow and quickened breaths the only sign of life. “I…I failed…I failed…everyone…” She could be heard muttering, and tears tinkled down to the cold floor. Stella and Liisa returned with the supplies, the latter having gone over to tend to Elora while Ritsu walked over to the former, who had suddenly ended up in an altercation with Griff. "Enough," the lieutenant ordered the both of them, her arms crossed.

As Stella began to fuss about over the disconnected pilots in the VR chamber, Ritsu became visibly annoyed. She raised a finger about to scold her. “Cadet-SR 45-” She managed to speak before a dull sound could be heard: it was Lorenzo, who had lightly struck the floor with the tip of his cane.
“Lieutenant…let the Lilim proceed.”
Ritsu adjusted her glasses. “But Executive Officer-!”

“Taking care of others is her current prime directive. Obstructing her would only cause more distractions in the long run. Besides,” he glanced at Aurora, who visibly dry retched after her disconnection from virtual reality, “I’d rather not have pilots puking up their guts…Could stain my coat,” he added, his callous nature as apparent as ever. As he said this, Liisa walked over to Aurora, and took out something from her pocket: it seemed to be a small vial filled with bluish liquid. The vial was labeled “Buran-X”. ”She offered it to Aurora with a kind expression.
“Please take this,” she spoke in a monotone voice.
“Ingesting the contents has a 98.5% probability of immediately alleviating symptoms of nausea caused by VRNFS, virtual reality neural feedback syndrome.” Stella, using her on-board navigational computer that scanned through Solaire's map, quickly located a nearby supply station, where emergency supplies including flasks of water and rolled up thermal blankets were stored.

Ritsu’s eyes narrowed for a short moment as she watched the shorter Lilim join the taller one with nursing duties past the silently stretching Jake, before her eyes turned softer, and she yielded. “Very well then.” She turned to the others. “You may now speak. However, you are to strictly avoid bothering those who are focused on observing the battle.”

Meanwhile, in the virtual reality, team Apple had come under a crisis with the chain of command, as Mema-Ka and Arrish struggled for the position of commander after Aurora’s departure from the mission. Horst rounded the corner with a stylish slide, before kicking off from a crouch and bounding across the battlefield like a faun of war, Heavy Assault Gun brought to bear, ready to roar out as heavy caliber ammunition was unloaded in Argent Wings’ direction.

But as the weapon was lifted, and the trigger was about to be pulled, Arrish saw a lone droid speeding from the north, courtesy of Sparks and his galling Guinevere. He turned, ready to shoot Dancer down…But it was already too late, as the parasitic machine swooped from under the Frame’s heavy legs, and latched on to the red terror’s back. Nanomachine tubes injected by the drone raced through the seams in his armor, and interfaced directly with the Frame’s operating system, infecting it with a Dancer Virus that quickly gained administrative privileges of the Framewerk, and ASSUMED DIRECT CONTROL. As a result, Horst was left shaking in place violently due to conflicting orders, as if possessed. However, now that Guinevere was performing the hacking protocol through the drone and sending out commands to the proxy unit via electromagnetic waves, his Frame’s cloaking could not perfectly maintain its camouflage, resulting in a faint ripple in space that a sharp eye could see, like the alien in Predator.

However, Mema-Ka was not deterred despite Raptor’s poor condition. “Affirmative!” Elora could be heard responding in comms; the young pilot was quite shocked to see the simulation stutter at Sleeping Thunder and Mother Goose’s mutually assured destruction, and for a moment wondered if the VR was going to crash due to a buffer overflow from all the missiles and explosions that spread like rainwater across the simulacrum city. But it didn’t matter; team Apple’s efforts had given Logic Diver another chance to fight, and she would not squander it. She also accepted the suddenly given position of second in command: while not a position Elora was comfortable with, the adrenaline spiking through her won over any nervousness, and she responded with a sharp “Roger!”

Raptor dove to the north at Argent Wings, the Attack Drones activated on the Frame, like turret emplacements on a fighter plane. They began pouring out laser cannon fire in a fusillade of vibrant fire: Argent Wings managed to dodge fire from two of the drones, and ended up struck by the two other drones, damaging the Frame’s armor, causing it to turn red hot and melt at parts. As Ava averted confrontation and continued with her hit-and-run tactic, Mema-Ka took the opportunity as a [Supporter], and took a reaction shot with the damage mode of Marker Light. The rifle’s shots, while not as potent as the Heavy Assault Gun, found purchase through the melted back armor, and several rounds managed to hit one of the Frame’s Microburst Monopropellent Thrusters, causing it to pour out smoke in a trail as it failed to function. [Speed reduced by 2, 30% reduced maneuverability].

As Raptor swooped in to attack Argent Wings, Elora leaned over with the Logic Diver, Automatic Battle Rifle hefted and ready to fire. She observed as the one-winged Frame dashed, and began shooting. Elora’s gaze intensified, as she focused her every shot: they struck Argent Wings in the forearm of her free arm right in the seams of the armor, severing it from the elbow joint, resulting in a temporary drop to her agility (Speed further reduced by 2 for the next turn, total -4 Speed).

Ava’s gambit seemed a success, as she slid behind the eastern megabuilding. However, thanks to Elora’s previous data collection, the Frame was seen through the building by the remaining team Apple members. “She’s coming from the south side!” Elora warned the others, and prepared for the Vibroblade-wielding warrior’s waltz, hoping Logic Diver and Raptor would manage to take her on despite their Frames barely holding on.

On the west side, Griff and Minerva found themselves facing off with their crippled Framewerks, the Shiva less disabled than Argo. Yet, the golden-clawed huntress would not go quietly into the night. She activated the Extreme Boosters, and smoke blew out in an explosive steam as the malfunctioning machine launched the Frame like a jet, managing to steer towards the right direction [Extreme Boosters resisted malfunction]. Further emboldened as she remembered Bug’s inspiring words, with her willpower as fuel she summoned a spear of pure energy from the stump of the Frame’s broken arm with Shining Fingers. The strain of holding the construct was vigorous, and sweat trickled down Minerva’s brow. But she would only need to hold on for but a few microseconds, as she let pure instinct guide her: Athena’s successor, a demigod questing for the honor befitting a heroine deified by the galaxy, would now begin her First Labor of defeating a monster called Shiva.

The valiant pauldon-heavy Frame was about to swing with the Trillium blade, only for the swing to be met with Argo’s energy lance. Sparks flew as the weapons grinded against each other, until finally the lance dissipated, but not before causing the blow to be deflected and miss.

Shiva followed up with a damaging burst of Marker Light fire, only for it to be partially deflected with a burst of the Hornet Point Defense System shots colliding with the rounds, allowing Argo one last chance to deliver an uppercutting slash into Shiva’s torso: the deadly claws, assisted by the Extreme Boosters, punched through Shiva’s heavy armor and into the cockpit, the index finger claw having struck from under Griff’s seat and slicing the pilot, but not before the final Marker Light shot, in such close proximity, pierced through the plating damaged by Sleepy’s missiles, and right into her cockpit in turn, blasting the pilot right through with a Howitzer-sized round.

As the battle was approaching it’s last moments, Bug’s Cockroach crawled through the proverbial nuclear fallout, the heavily damaged chassis ejecting the dangling, broken limbs thanks to the modular Segmented Recombination, gaining precious maneuverability for a mere jet-assisted torso. With a desperate, determination-filled speech, Big then dashed towards Squid’s still-smoking wreck. Upon physical contact, the [Machine Mind] performed a system scan. To his elation, he found that while the cockpit of the Frame had been utterly demolished at the top, the Kattai system lying underneath was still in one piece. He hacked into the system, remotely activating it.

As a result, Squid’s Frame began to glow. Then, nanomachines began transforming both the Squid and Cockroach, transferring most of the metallic mass into the weaponized limbs the Framewerk was most famous for into the Cockroach’s back as a weapon system. This resulted in Cockroach being equipped with three full-sized combat tentacles on the left and lower right, and a half-sized left tentacle on the upper right, the nanomachines having been unable to fully assemble the broken limb. Still, three and a half limbs were more than a single man in a broken chassis of a Frame could have ever hoped for.

Against all odds, Bug was still in the fight.

Nukkelina Nieminen

Nukkelina, despite having worked previously with Maverick Alternative agents on previous ventures, whether by joint missions or simply as passerby acquaintances, had never spent much if any small talk with them. One reason was for her abnormal nature even by Esper standards, of course, but there was also another reason: she didn’t really know how to make small talk. Sure, the time she spent at her uncle’s shop at the village did give her the basics for social interaction, but she spent more time playing with dolls than with real children. She supposed that might have been one reason why that cursed monster had chosen her, as she shared that deeper connection with unliving objects mimicking humans than humans themselves. But it was not a fair exchange, and she would rectify that.

But until that day comes, she had to contend with this group, composed of similarly maladjusted personnel. Iris Silk was perhaps the most normal of the bunch, appearances notwithstanding, though the stoic girl showed some irritation due to the position she was forced into due to the disappearance of her superiors. Much like at a workplace where the middle manager is fired and someone must take their place in the chain, so too did Iris have to take control of Maverick’s operations in Pax.

The other girls, however, were more colorful in personalities. Nina gave the first impression of a simple-minded bruiser. The conservative swimsuit that emphasized function over form was the most obvious hint. But what really solidified the puppet girl’s initial thoughts of her was her short and to-the-point statements, spoken in an accent familiar to Nukkelina, but not in a positive manner. She associated the style of speech most with ruffians and ne’er-do-wells based on her experiences in her homeland. However, despite her displeasure, her expression didn’t show it in the slightest, as she truly did not feel hate. At least, not anymore. Rather, it was more of a reflex, born from memories of a life of emotions. In any case, she hoped she wouldn’t have to spend more time in her presence, as the reaction was pleasant, and it distracted from her mission.

The other girl, Scypho, did not elicit such a strong impression, though the noticeable difference in body mass, especially around the chest, was not unnoticed. Her pleading look was met with a blank stare: Nukkelina had no sympathy to give for the mass of jelly in the form of a female. It seemed Iris had taken her words in a more accusatory manner than she had intended, but it seemed she did not take it personally, as she then suggested leaving their options open until Dan had shown more of his way of thinking, a plan that the puppet girl agreed to with a subtle nod.
”Very well then. Perhaps we won’t need someone like Jellmiko over here to seduce the shark with her jiggling,” she added in her characteristic emotionless tone, making it difficult to gauge whether it was a joke made in envy, or a sincere statement about her viability to rizz for the Maverick Alternative.

Caesar Beach was, just as Nukkelina saw from the window, a picturesque paradise of golden, grainy sands, clear blue seas and a warm breeze that cooled just the right amount from the sweltering heat. Of course, they were not the only group to arrive, as the puppet girl noted both the Gemini and the Freelancers to show: she had been informed over the Maverick’s network the past week about the very basics. However, when it came to more detailed information such as their powers as Espers, Nukkelina was unable to find a definitive answer. Not that it was a problem: it didn’t matter what powers they had, as the culprit behind this ridiculous seasonal drift had made it abundantly clear that violence would not be tolerated. This lent to an air of strange calm tinged with uncomfortable tension, like a doll that had its eye painted just slightly off, giving it an uncanny effect.

Dan Daggernose, of course, had waited for them, and gave out choices for activities for the groups to engage in however. Nukkelina was averse to the more physically straining options, though the sandcastle building sounded quite enjoyable, and dare she even think such…fun.

But before she could come up with ideas for crafting the most magnificent sand monument, Iris made her move, and inquired Daggernose about the disappearances. To nobody’s surprise, the chondrichthyan seemed evasive, and deflected the topic by bringing up cultists working in the area, sacrificing kidnapped maidens in some unholy ritual. One of the Freelancers, who seemed to be a member of aforementioned cult, claimed the opposite in intentions, and like a groveling worm begged to be released from the enchantment that they had all been afflicted with.

”Pathetic,” Nukkelina spoke out, and then turned to Scypho.
”Now then, let us proceed with the plan. Jellmiko, start jig-Bweh!?”

At an instant, the composed puppet girl was knocked down on the sand, as a direct hit from a beachball had struck her noggin. She realized she had dropped Ser Miauskers, and crawled on the sand to retrieve it, clutching it in her arms like a baby: she had developed an amusing shade of red on her cheeks.
“Stop throwing candy!” Lorenzo ordered. Liisa added: “You’re supposed to stop combat after exiting virtual reality. Furthermore, lollipops are an inefficient weapon to utilize.”
Lorenzo groaned, and facepalmed as Ritsu walked in, her attitude still agitated. “Keep observing quietly. Any further disruption will not be tolerated.”

Minerva swept through the devastated alleys of the simulated colony, and rounded the block to flank Mema-Ka, who at the time was making plans with Arrish. Elora blinked at the mention of the holy grail, not first realizing what he meant. That did not last long, as Horst then bounded off to confront Argent Wings with powerful concrete-cracking leaps while Raptor hoisted up Logic Diver’s battered chassis, and hoisted it up to his back with the support of the Multiple Arms system, like carrying a giant egg.
“B-Bweeh!” Elora yelped as she was lifted, but quickly realized the plan, and readjusted aim with the ABR once she was in position, covering Raptor’s blind spot.

Raptors then slid to the corner, the Markerlight readied for incoming movement, which turned out to be correct as Argo then rounded the corner, Gatling Gun spewing out death with every fifty thousand credit, custom-tooled cartridge at twelve thousand rounds per minute.
“No!” Elora screamed, and crouched down on her seat, hands on her head as she endured the horrible noise of bullets clanging against Raptor, and in turn reverberating on Logic Diver, akin to a bell. Raptor was unable to dodge due to the heavy load it was carrying. As a Heavy Frame, it managed to endure the assault, though it was left battered and full of circular dents due to major damage, as holes spewed out smoke. One of the Rocket Anchors was hit, halving the effectiveness of the system, and the central chassis had bent, causing a small risk to the Kattai nanomachines crunching the Frame in an improper angle instead of smoothly transitioning. However, Logic Diver was mostly spared from the fire, only incurring minor damage to the sides of the Frame’s armor.

Raptor fired with the Marker Light, and managed to hit Argo’s chassis due to the melee range of the encounter, marking the Frame for team Apple members and enabling better accuracy. Minerva acrobatically retreated after her assault, her speed unmatched in the war-torn arena, and Elora could only shiver as she heard Stella’s bloodcurdling scream, and muted her channel. “Engaging Argo! Raptor has taken heavy damage, but Argo’s marked!” She informed Team Apple’s channel, though Aurora had by this point muted Team Apple from her comms.

Griff then intercepted Argo as she was heading back, having placed itself at the crucial center of conflict, where the two fronts had conjoined. He sliced with the Trillium blade, managing to catch Argo by the tip of the Gatling Gun, severing the barrel in half. This was followed by a stab of the Multiform Rod’s spear, which struck Argo, heavily damaging the Frame’s chassis as it punched through the armor, nearly shattering her inner systems.

Horst, who had disengaged from the rest of team Apple, headed north to confront Ava.The Frame shot at Argent Wings with the Heavy Assault Gun, the bullets being sliced by the Vibroblade as Ava reacted with extreme agility. However, the heavy rounds still carried enough velocity that even when cut the split halves caused heavy dents in the Frame’s armor, bending one of Argent’s Cloaking Wings. Argent Wings returned fire with the Markerlights, which successfully landed on Horst. However, despite the attempt to flash Arrish (not like that, dammit), when Ava attempted her illusion tactics, Arrish’ sharp eye allowed him to follow the real one with the damaged wing past the duplicates, and parry the One-Winged Angle’s Vibroblade slash with the Bastion, cutting the shield in two and destroying it but giving Horst the crucial moment to counterattack as Argent Wings took a tactical retreat, like a hit-and-run hawk.

Meanwhile, on the western front, Bugatti had taken drastic measures, and given Sparks access to Cockroach and its drone control system. As a result, Guinevere may now control drones that are in the control range of Cockroach even if Guinevere itself is out of range. Then, he gave bold words to Stella, the Lilim’s scattered memories refocused as she was reminded not to lose her way.

The Steel Raven Lilim spread its proverbial wings: the Mother Goose was no longer walking forward, but instead taking longer strides, and leaned forward into a quarterback charge with the extended Bastion held before it right through the second megabuilding, scattering the pieces explosively. This was no clumsy colossus, but a terrifying titan, and it was coming right at Sleeping Thunder and the rest of team Apple.

However, Jake kept his cool under pressure, and activated the REAP system: tendrils formed from nanotechnology fired out and snatched Atty’s Plasma blade, absorbing the weapon technology into Angel Zero’s systems, fully replacing the Laser Blade. He fired upon Argo as the Frame was passing by, the heavy shots managing to connect on the Frame’s shoulder, causing major damage and punching a hole through the Extreme Boosters, disabling them. He then intercepted Mother Goose, as a cloud of obscuring smoke erupted around the giant Frame, blinding Stella while ensuring his own battlefield awareness was not hindered with Recon Drones. He managed to avoid the Shredder Shotgun blasts that came his way, only to be struck with the Bastion, causing the Frame to fall, leaving them open to a vicious slash of a Ripper Claw, rending the right arm and right leg of the the Frame and most of the torso chassis, causing it to creak as it fell apart, ending Jake’s mission in the virtual reality.

[Jake disconnected]

However, Stella’s rush wasn’t yet done, as Mother Goose launched a salvo of missiles at Sleeping Thunder, who also walked forward. The Arklight Thunder weapon system generated a low-yield electric field that detonated the missiles prematurely, reducing the damage by avoiding direct hits.

However, Aurora then prepared for a gambit that nobody could anticipate: she directed the rest of the electric charge to rearm Sleeping Thunder’s Particle Cannon back to full capacity: a risky maneuver that could easily blow up in Aurora’s face. However, she managed to give it just the right amount of voltage before its circuits were damaged, a calculation only someone capable of advanced engineering and out-of-the-box weapon design could accomplish. [Particle Cannon resisted malfunction]. Still, the Particle Cannon’s coils were smoking, indicating that the process wasn’t that safe. Still, it produced results, allowing Aurora to unleash a [Flash In The Dark]:

Sleeping Thunder, kept steady with stabilized legs, activated Thunder Fall, with all safety measures and inhibitors nullified. The first weapon to be unleashed was the full charge of the Particle Cannon, further overclocked into a devastating horizontal pillar of world-searing light:

The blast lasted for three seconds.

For the first second, Mother Goose’s Bastion held until it was destroyed.

For the next second, Guinevere’s Repair Drone jumped in to intercept the shot, followed by Mother Goose dropping the wrecked Bastion and attempting to block the beam with the palm of her free hand, destroying both.

For the third and final second, the blast had already began waning down, but not before leaving Mother Goose’s frontal armor plating melting from the aftermath, white-hot. The Particle Cannon, by the end, had also melted. [Particle Cannon malfunction]

This was then followed up with a power Moonbreaker railgun that punched through the melting armor, causing the Frame’s chassis to turn concave. Yet the mighty Mother Goose still held on, and raised it’s Rocket Hammer. The railgun itself also melted. [Moonbreaker malfunction].

Then came the Dragon Wing armor-piercing and incendiary missiles, which, akin to flaming serpents, exploded violently at Mother Goose, engulfing the giant Frame in flames and blowing open a hole in the Frame’s fortress-like leg armor, the Frame like a wicker man set ablaze in unholy ritual. Shiva then assisted Sleepy, delivering Marker Light fire in a double burst as Mother Goose pondered forward.
But the Frame still held on, the goliath yet to be bested by a barrage that would have taken down any other Frame. [Missile Launchers resisted malfunction.]

But of course, while Sleeping Thunder was primarily a long-range unit, it still possessed deadly Gatling Guns, the chambers spinning so fast when unleashing a storm of electrical bullets that the cylinders turned red, and nearly fell off. [Gatling Guns resisted malfunction]. The bullets had caused critical damage to Mother Goose’s exposed leg with assisted accuracy, and the Frame’s torso started to loudly creak and groan, unable to support the heavy upper body with one leg only. But Stella still held on, even during her fall: as the head of the hammer began to fall, Stella activated the rockets attached to the Weapon System, and it slammed right on the central head of Sleeping Thunder like a meteor from the heavens, staking its legs deep into the earth and flattening the core like a car in a compactor.

But just before impact and Aurora’s virtual death, Aurora had activated The Arklight Thunder’s Tesla field over maximum charge. It encased the arachnid Frame in a bright yellow bubble of arcing electricity, and the electricity spread through the damaged torso, reaching Stella. Her Lilim body was shocked by the insanely high amperes, reformatting the Lilim as Mother Goose exploded, taking Sleeping Thunder with it. Sleepy's heavy weaponry ammunition also detonated in a chain reaction so intensive and world-shattering that it actually caused the virtual reality itself, run by the most advanced computers in the galaxy, to stutter for a second due to lag. Shiva was caught partially in the explosion, blowing an arm and destroying the Multiform Rod that previously held it.

[Aurora disconnected]
[Stella disconnected]

However, even with Sleeping Thunder gone, her rage continued to linger in the battlefield like a wraith, its missiles seeking out team Mango like the grudge of a ghost.

The missiles flew towards the northern building, and sharply turned over it, the missiles having locked on to Cockroach through the obstacle thanks to Elora’s combat data. It was a moment that Bug couldn’t help but compare to the other time he came face to face with death in VR. Only now, it seemed so much more visceral, and real as the HYDRA shells also came whistling down, the combined firepower of the missiles and shells carpet bombing his vicinity so heavily that the ground might as well have been made of perpetuating explosions instead of concrete.

But even in such a situation, as the Repair Drones blew up around him, and his Frame’s armor was broken down and scattered, Bugatti held steadfast against the calamity, his determination to survive like a flaring comet of passion. In the aftermath, the Cockroach was a mess: it’s limbs were scattered and bent out of shape, it’s exterior systems all smashed apart, and the entire area clouded by black smoke that slowly dissipated into the broken sky, leaving nothing but a multitude of craters in it’s wake. Yet, true to its namesake, the pilot and his core chassis surrounding him had managed to survive the near-impossible odds, his [Indomitable Will] having carried him through the Fire and Flames [Speed reduced to 1].

Argo was not as lucky: though Minerva was spared the wrath of the HYDRA shells, the Dragon Wing missiles nonetheless found their target, and after the [Genetically Engineered] [Clone] had dodged three super-speed missiles in a row the rest had caught up to her, resulting in the supremely fast Frame losing the arm holding the broken Gatling Gun as well as the left leg [Speed reduced by 4]. That was when Minerva realized who her opponent would be: a less-crippled Shiva.

Nukkelina Nieminen

Nukkelina had arrived in Pax Septimus in the week after Dan Daggernose had transformed the city into a summer paradise. She has been called in by Maverick Alternative to reinforce the organization against the entity known as The Hand. She had accepted the job, since she was curious to see how much influence Hand possessed, and if they had the connections that she sought, especially when it came to a certain monstrous puppet who had stolen her “heart”.

Now, with a void in place of it, the girl looked on into the distant shores of Ceasar Beach from her room in the Golden Trove, holding Ser Miauskers in her arms: it seems he was eager to join the festivities based on the vintage striped swimsuit and scuba gear that the enchantment had blessed the cat plushie. As her attire as an Esper had also been transformed into something more fitting maritime activities, she had accepted that the enchantment specifically encouraged summery activities. And that meant needing to socialize with others, something Nukkelina was not familiar with. The only practice she has had since the voiding of her heart had been her puppets, and those made for poor conversationalists. Still, an invitation was an invitation, and Iris Silk, her local contact, had previously mentioned about heading out there along with other Maverick agents. Giving one last sigh, she opened the door, and exited the room.

She walked downstairs to the lobby, and joined up with the Maverick agents.
”Greetings,” she spoke, her voice devoid of emotion.
”Confronting an entity capable of such power is unwise, and likely to result in your limbs being pulled apart, one by one,” she continued.
”However, such beings are ruled by emotion and passion. With subterfuge and charm, we will achieve much more intelligence than simply rushing in.” She side-eyed the other girls, Nina and Jellmiko in particular.
“However, despite what my current clothes imply, I will refrain from swimming.”
“Are those all Stacy and Oros, but from different worlds?”

In the Nexus, a place where the laws of reality were more of a suggestion than an absolute, was Kayli, a magical girl who had been personally chosen by the Grand Magistrate. She, now serving as the Guardian, looked upon a large, open book that showed the events of the battle between Penny, the Stacy Squad, and Phase Oros, a puzzled yet concerned look on her face. AR, the floating book who served as the aforementioned Grand Magistrate, made a motion resembling a nod.

“Yes, well, different reality plenums, more specifically. Each one of them are Perspective Chapters, but from different Stories. Some have the same genre of modern fantasy like the Story you know, but some are medieval fantasy, science fiction, history, or even based on a completely realistic modern setting, each one as unique as their Author.”

“But why are they all here and mixing up the genres? Shouldn’t they stay in their own reality plenums instead of coming here?” She asked with her arms crossed.

“Usually that is the case, yes. However, because of the rapidly accelerating stagnation of this reality plenum, the border between plenums is thinning, and Perspective Chapters from elsewhere are bleeding in. If nothing is done, this Story will be consumed, and everything you know would disappear into the pages between Reality Plenum Grandia, trapped in endless misery.”

“And to end the stagnation and breaking down of these narrative walls of sorts, the Nexus needs to be sealed, correct?” She asked, still trying to grasp the situation based on the vague descriptions that AR gave.

Again, AR made the nodding motion. “Yes. The Queen’s dread weapon, the Storyslayer, is the key to the sealing ritual.”

Kayli smiled, and turned towards the exit door, standing under the street.
“Fine, I’ll go and grab the Storyslayer from the misplaced monarch, and finish the ritual.”

“But please remember to protect the other Perspective Chapters,” AR warned.

“We need at least ten to survive and participate in order to finish the ritual.”

“Understood. Take care now.” And with that, the Guardian of the Nexus stepped forth to fulfill her destiny.

Lily smiled as Alex thanked her, and was about to make a suggestion when Penny spoke up. She blinked in surprise as Penny gave a startling revelation after observing the holo-display of Penrose on the table.
”Covington Tower? Why there?”
”It doesn’t matter why it’s there, go!” Justine yelled, and thrust a pointing finger at the display.
Rachel nodded, and dropped the head of her hammer down, resting her hand on the pommel.
“The Queen of Hearts will pay for the crimes she has committed! The Ascendancy, no, BEACON will not go quietly into the night! We will bring a new dawn of peace!” She corrected herself after glancing over at Alicia.

”Okay then! Magical Girls and Guy with attitude, assemble! We are the Avengers of Bolorton, and we will end this Infinity War against Wonderland, and go into the Endgame! In the name of the moon, I will punish evil!” Lily punched up in the air with a little jump, working herself up, and ran out of the Bastion, summoning her motorcycle and driving right off the deck, trusting Alex to get on board as they have done countless times.

Justine and Caroline dived down, only to glide on their bat wings as they went forth to harry the Wonderland army gathering at the foot of the Tower. Rachel teleported back to Beacon HQ to quickly assemble the defenders, and the rest also prepared.

Tsuki smirked. “Oh? So that’s how it is~” She teased, but Hudie had already run off again. “I suggest you forget about Penny, she’s nothing but trouble.” And with those parting words, she left the rooftop, now dodging any tendrils Chloe may summon as they left for Covington Tower.

The Cheshire Cat stared at clone!Penny, who accused her of trespassing for a while, and then blinked, her eyes wide.
“Ooohhhh…What a CAT-astrophe!” She held her head with her hands. “I shouldn’t have brought us here directly! But I thought, with how we were in a hurry, I thought we should get here as soon as possible! OH NYO!” She dropped down in prostration. “I’m sorry! I should have asked permission first! Punish me how you want! I can do cooking, cleaning, bathing, changing clothes, playing, pampering, being pampered, being punched, being kicked, being stabbed, being strangled, being cut to pieces, getting immolated, getting blown up, getting shot to the moon, anything! I have nine lives, but you can take all of them as recompense!”

The Queen of Hearts observed with glee as Mika and Su played along with her suggestion for the game, and donned the red and white armor, followed by mounting their knightly steeds. Having to wield their weapons using only their forearms and not their hands, it was clunky and awkward, and the weapons often fell off, making for slow proceedings. The horses obeyed their riders silently, and the two charged forth at each other. Su was the first to strike Mika, and she fell down off her horse. Then, in the next round, Mika was the one who struck successfully, and Su fell down. The armors were enchanted to provide enough protection to avoid concussions as the “knights” fell on their heads. And so the duel continued, sometimes with a hit, sometimes with a miss. Yet, the two realized that the fight would never end in a victor, as it would only end when both fell off their horses.

As the Queen focused on the antics, Mariette took her chance to summon mirrors and get an update on the various situations that were unfolding. She saw that the Mahou had left the Wonderland Castle except for a few, including those who planned on blowing it up. She also saw that thy had gone for the Bastion, only to quickly depart towards Covington Tower, where she was.

However, that was when the Queen spoke up, looking bored after Mika once again fell off her horse, though she hadn’t averted her eyes from the two pretending knights.

“I tire of these games. Alice, let’s proceed with the finale of the ritual, and the summoning of Asengav.”

That was when she blinked, and felt a presence: it was the Guardian of the Nexus.
“Oh, and who is this?” She asked with a sharp smile.
“I am the Guardian of the Nexus, and I demand you give over the Storyslayer you possess!”
The Queen blinked, summoned the sword, and slid a finger across the blade.
“Oh, this? Why don’t you come and get it?”

Here's an update to my CS from before, and struggling with Genre like Notes and stuff. I have ideas to get Summon Minion/Elite, Craft for weapons or mods to Instrument, spiderman swinging with threads (Push/Pull I think), and possibly Transplace to swap between caster and Instrument, but hard to figure out how to put it all together.

Edit: Finished Genre section.
Despite the struggle of communicating through loudspeakers within a battlefield full of noise like bullets ,energy blasts and explosions, Serah and Stella found themselves coming up with a daring plan: the mighty Mother Goose tossed Atty like a Frame-shaped javelin, followed by stomping through a building as if it were a mere sandcastle in its way, crumbling it to pieces. The small Frame bravely launched across the sky after being thrown. It’s target: Electric Dragonfly. In response, Atty was struck with a thunderbolt from the latter’s Arklight Thunder system, eliminating the last Energy Wing as it fell out of the sky like a clipped wing. But even without wings, the red Frame started on a downward curve, it’s plasma blade held as energy began coursing through it in bright light. As Atty was locked on by Sleeping Thunder, it dodged the Markerlight shots from Dragon, and even the Slag Cannon shot from Griff’s Shiva as he charged into defend the Tevranian: Serah had achieved a level of synchronization never seen before from True Synchnorizity, as she flipped and spun through enemy fire like an acrobat.

But then, Atty was hit by Shiva’s Markerlight. Atty barely managed to dodge the spear thrust that came alongside the shots, but it carved a line across Atty’s side. In doing so, she was unable to dodge the final attack: Shiva’s Trillium Blade swung upwards, bisecting Atty vertically. However, even then, it was too late for Electric Dragonfly, as the half of Serah and Atty still holding the energy blade, inspired by Astolfo’s words to push beyond the impossible, penetrated through Shiva’s Shining Fingers, the intense energy of the raging plasma blade cutting past the parry, already strained by a parry from the last turn. This resulted in the Shining Fingers malfunctioning, the energy now blinking like a dying lightbulb. Then, Atty passed the imposing Frame, and stabbed the plasma blade right through Electric Dragonfly’s chest, followed by a detonation of pure plasma from Atty’s unstable core from the violent impact: in the crater that ensued, only smoldering remains of both Atty, and Electric Dragonfly, were left.

Shiva and Angel Zero, due to proximity, also incurred minor damage, melting and bleaching the bright red front armor of the former Framewerk white. It also destroyed the cloaking system of the latter as plasma energy overloaded the cloak matrix, resulting in the black Framewerk coming to view amidst blue arcs of harmless electricity due to the malfunctioning system.

Sleeping Thunder received a bit of bleaching on it’s front legs, but the colossus had enough distance not to receive structural damage from the detonation. It set it’s aim towards Zel-Ghin and his Squid, and there was a reckoning: Zel was able to partially redirect the Moonbreaker shot upwards, and it created a groove on the ceiling of the Frame as it cut through the armor, managing to avoid destruction. The pilot attempted to flee behind the Bastion. But what little hope the arrogant pilot had left of surviving, as the crippled Frame struggled to turn with partially broken legs, was dashed as the battlefield once again shook from the unforgettable sound of a Particle Cannon being shot: the shot, even with upwards curving from the Stargazer, was still large enough in volume that it punched through the center of the Frame, instantly killing Zel-Ghin and causing the Frame to explode in a spectacular display, and the pilot with it.

As Electric Dragon fell, so did the jamming field from the battlefield, and team Mango’s communications came live. So did Guinevere’s drone’s allowing Sparks to properly survey the battlefield and make his next move, taking cover towards the east. There, he was met with Cockroach, and given an offer. If Sparks were to accept, he would be able to control his drones even if Guinevere was out of range if Cockroach was in range instead.

On the eastern front, the situation was coming to a head, as the battle revolved around a lone Elora and his crippled Frame. Despite her attempts to deter Minerva from approaching, the Olympian cared little for her weak bullets, the Argo charging in like greased lightning, the golden claw of the goddess held forward, ready to rip and tear.

Elora closed her eyes as tears drifted down, ready to accept her virtual death, when suddenly, she saw the battlefield transform: in an instant, Frames had congregated to rescue her, and even team Banana had decided to join their cause, his Combat Drones having taken positions to pour a barrage of lasers on Argo. However, the Frame dodged and weaved through the red rain, and the shots that connected were either intercepted by the Hornet Nest Point Defense System, or failed to melt through the very heavy-esque armor on their own. Still, with three drones shooting, it had delivered minor damage to the armor plating, melting it at some spots.

As the Ripper Claw came closer, Elora saw as Raptor swooped in. Mema-Ka shot the Rocket Anchors in an attempt to strike Argo, only for them to be deflected by the Hornet Nest Point Defense System. As a result, Raptor missed the flying kick, Argo having ducked under it while only slightly slowing the momentum for the killing blow.

But just as the goddess of the hunt was to claim its quarry, Horst had slammed an L-shaped Bastion Wall right in front of her with an earth-shaking slam, providing a few quick shots of the Heavy Assault Gun, missing. But even against a barrier made of the sturdiest alloy in the galaxy, the Ripper Claw managed to punch it’s long golden claws through the thick material. But in doing so, it lost enough power to puncture Logic Diver, only the very tip of the longest claw having dented the armor. Pulling away, two claws scraped an X-shaped scar over Logic Diver’s front before Argo took a tactical retreat behind the building.

As the incident passed, so did Elora’s moment of confusion, and Logic Diver used it’s body-mounted thrusters, managing to turn upright, and readying a reaction shot with the Automatic Battle Rifle resting on the broken Bastion.

“Thank you!” Her voice could be heard over the comms, no longer scrambled by jamming. “You came to save me! Arrish, Mema-Ka…And Banana too!”

However, unbeknownst to Elora, Lucius, a rookie pilot, was about to receive a reminder of what it meant to face a veteran like Ava.

Lucius took aim, and the Moonbreaker sang, it’s deadly song launched towards Argent Wings. Ava Lane, using her Synchronized Agility, dodged the shot. But then, Lucius realized that something strange had happened [Humanity’s Potential]: he was again in the moment of aiming the shot, the Argent Wings having somehow gone back to where he originally took the shot, as if time itself had wound back a couple of seconds itself. Was it a bug in the VR, a vision of a failed alternate timeline, or something else? Lucius had no time to ponder such questions, and shot again, this time knowing how Argent Wings would dodge. As a result, Ava was forced to parry the shot using Argent’s Shining Fingers.

By the time the parry was made, Ava had already closed the distance to Rex Artus, and swung with the Vibroblade, ignoring the Combat Drone that now shot at the Frame, partially damaging the Cloaking System in the process. Lucius then felt strange again, as [Clairvoyance] now showed him a future where he was bisected in half, and dodged to the side. But then, Ava saw as time slowed down for her [Humanity’s Potential]: she saw the direction Lucius would be dodging, and from years of experience adjusted the trajectory of the blade, delivering a bisecting blow that separated from right shoulder to left hip…And the Black Frame was destroyed in twin explosions killing Lucius in the virtual space.

[Lucius disconnected]

The pilots who had disconnected woke up in their assigned VR seats, the helmets having been automatically lifted off. Lorenzo was there, his hand resting on his walking cane, accompanied by Liisa.
“First blood, huh…As punishment for dying earlier in the mission, you will now observe the rest of the battle. Perhaps you’ll learn something by watching how other pilots fight,” he spoke, and then resumed watching from the large display screen installed on the central pillar of the VR chamber. In the distance, they could hear Ritsu angrily ranting to some hapless scientist, and could only sigh in relief that they were not the recipient.

Serah taunted her opponents on team Apple, goading them to chase after Atty, and launched out a plasma wave that cut through the air like a green blade of wind itself. The deadly projectile careened straight towards Shiva, only for it to be intercepted in spectacular fashion: Griff, who had endured the taunt by sheer will alone, was prepared. With glowing palms, Shiva performed a cross chop like a martial art master, deflecting the energy projectile with a precise motion right at the middle of the burning arc.

That was when Griff went for a counterattack: first: he shot his Markerlight, which was blocked by one of Atty’s protective wings, the Combat mode bullets cracking the wing. However, as Serah was about to escape, she realized that Shiva followed up with a Slag Cannon shot, destroying the broken wing.

That was when Serah, who spotted Sleeping Thunder crawling in the distance, that she had a [Clairvoyance] vision, but not one from the future, rather: it was of a woman that Serah had a faint feeling of familiarity, as if in another life she had known her. Like Aurora, she also piloted a Frame with an arachnid body, though a simpler one with a single main weapon. She saw the strange Frame’s Slag Cannon, and how it had a peculiar trait to it as it fired: that it would perform a second shot upon connecting with the first one.

Back in the present and armed with this knowledge, Serah let instinct take over, and successfully dodged the second Slag Cannon shot that came after the first, before she finally reached the safety of Mother Goose and her Bastion. Shiva then reloaded the Slag Cannon while taking position, and vigilantly prepared for enemies to arrive within firing range at the flank, a [Supporter] ever watchful.

Lucius, having reached the safety of cover, took a defensive position with Rex Artus, and deployed his X-Type Variant 2 Attack Drones: three to guard him while concealed with cover, and one around the corner, ready to intercept any foes. He peered around the corner, and was witness to an incredible sight: the Cockroach, in the blink of an eye, had turned a pastel pink in color.

Elora, who had prepared for deeper data aggregation of the enemy Frames around at K23, was also stunned by the change, and momentarily forgot to collect data, having also missed Aurora's order to retreat.
“W-What, how did it turn pink? Is the VR buggy?” She wondered with a tilt of her head and a concerned look, and then glanced at Argent Wings, blinking.
“Wait, it’s not advancing. Rather, it looks like it’s…Sweeping for me!”

With panic rising up, Logic Diver began fleeing south, but it was already too late: Elora glanced at the rear cameras, and her eyes opened wide as she saw Bug’s Silverfish, in a brilliant move, nosedive from the top of the building, exploding like a silver shooting star: in the ensuing shockwave caused by the drone unleashing a great pulse, she was revealed, and all hell broke loose on the poor girl, as she was beset upon by Framewerks, like a pack of wild dogs.

First, Argent Wings delivered a double barrage of Markerlight rounds, the harmless tracking rounds having successfully struck the egg-shaped Frame’s armor on surprise, improving team Mango’s accuracy on the Light Framewerk. Elora managed to twist and graze the second round of shots knowing their trajectory. But then came the heavy blow, Cockroach’s Particle Cannon, at a devastating three-round charge, blasted through the battlefield like a horizontal pillar of luminescent light.

Elora’s [Clairvoyance] kicked in, and she sent Logic Diver in a risky barrel roll in an attempt to dodge the foreseen attack: however, even with prediction on her side, she could not fully dodge an attack that potent at such range and assisted by Markerlights. As a result, Logic Diver was hit in the legs that were obliterated, causing the egg to crash hard and tumble a fair distance as her movement was reduced to a mere 1, passing by the building Rex Artus and his drones used for cover.

“Mayday! Critical damage sustained!” Elora screamed into the comms, as tears drifted down her cheeks from the pain she felt: possessing an unnaturally high aptitude for synchronization with Logic Diver, she felt a great scorching heat on her legs, and for a moment dreaded that she had been paralyzed. Fortunately, it seemed she still had motor function over them, but it mattered little, as then the third Frame would swoop in: while having initially flown off in a completely different direction, Argo’s speed was such that it had already turned back, its magnificent minigun revving up to deliver a hail of bullets on Logic Diver. The egg clanged and dented rapidly, and some bullets even managed to pierce the Medium-armored Frame in the joints and weaker plating, causing major damage to her systems: Logic Diver lost its ability to perform data collection with the Combat Analyzer, and the Hyperwave Array was now on the fritz as half the words in Apple communications started to be overcome by Electric Dragon’s jamming-induced static. If Logic Diver were to fall, so would all communications in the Tevranian’s domain of influence.

“I* s**ry! I m*ss*d u*!” She screamed again through the broken comms to units near Rhylaen, though it didn’t take a genius to figure out what she was saying. Logic Diver, now lying on its back, prepared for a last stand as Elora grit her teeth, seeing Argo and Argent Wings speeding closer. Diver lifted the Automatic Battle Rifle delivering crossfire on Argo, the high-volume rounds delivering minor damage to the latter’s Medium armor, banging it up, though to a lesser extent than the poor intelligence unit. More importantly, she hoped the shooting would slow Minerva, and buy her even a second of time for reinforcements to arrive and save her…Though she had a feeling this would be the end, as she saw an unknown yet scary-looking attack drone aiming its weapon at her from the side.

Meanwhile, the combat heated up towards the center of the battlefield, as Electric Dragonfly bravely flew into the fray, and like a corona of dazzling light blinded Zel-Ghin, the disorienting attack unable to be redirected by the Stargazer. Still, from years of combat experience at the labs with his twin brother and his grit, he had successfully sustained a splitting Stargazer field that separated the Markerlight rounds away, managing to defend himself against being marked. However, he failed to redirect the shots that came afterwards from Horst, his Heavy Assault Gun delivering major damage with the APFSDS-A rounds while Zel was unable to fully defend himself. As a result, The Squid’s right forelimb was blown off as shots managed to pierce the heavy armor and separate it from the joint. As a result, speed was now reduced by 2 from damage. The Stargazer was also hit, now only working at half effectiveness. While he was reeling from the flash, he also incurred lesser attacks: they were Attack Drone laser cannon shots from a drone peeking around the corner, and he recognized the sound it made…it was from his own brother and his Raptor Frame. While a single attack drone wasn’t too threatening on its own, it nonetheless delivered minor damage, scorching the Squid’s armor and causing plating to melt at parts: at this rate, it would turn into copper calamari with the beating it took from the pack of Apple Frames. However, Raptor was unable to secure a proper firing line to get reaction shots in, the right side proving advantageous in cover for the Mango hunter squad.

Finally, with a surprise attack, Angel Zero uncloaked and delivered a deadly offense, also utilizing the potency of a Heavy Assault Gun to deliver armor-penetrating shots. These shots connected towards the Squid’s center and shoulders, taking out one of his Dual Acid Cannons with a shot right through the barrel as well as a shot nearly managing to reach the cockpit’s walls itself, having left a visible dent that was close to piercing into the enclosed space itself. Angel then took cover, preparing to cloak.

Sleeping Thunder and Mother Goose made their marches towards an inevitable clash, the former locking on to Mango Frames in preparation for an Itano Circus, while Goose brought out a Great Wall to repel all unwanted shots. Guinevere placed a drone on the top of the building to survey the battlefield. Unfortunately, due to Electric Dragonfly’s jamming, the camera feed was white noise, and the audio mere static.
Still, the manipulation unit was still untargeted, and could make a decisive move as the battle grew closer.

By this point Lorenzo had noticed the color cheat that was activated, and frowned angrily.
“That punk…He thinks he can play around just because it’s virtual, huh?” He mumbled, while Ritsu simply shook her head in disbelief. “Childish display. I honestly expected better from Cadet Duval.” “I suppose he did make a point,” Lorenzo then muttered, and Ritsu’s expression shifted to inquiry. “Executive Officer, what do you mean by that statement?”
“He’s proven he can cheat the system, but he only did a mere prank. I suppose it takes some balls to go that far to prove it. Not that I will overlook such a blatant display of buffoonery though.”
Ritsu smiled devilishly. “I suppose it was bold…But very stupid.” She pointed towards the nearby guards. “Bring me the technician responsible: we’ll have a talk. A long one.”
