Bio

This is my second profile on here, and I have been Play-By-Post RPing for about nine years now. I do my best to see every RP to the end or at least let my character come to his/her own dramatic conclusion when I feel like signing off. Just like novel writing in real life, I tend to find myself on long hiatuses. Since writing is a great way to work out your brain, I try stay engaged as much as possible.

My favorite genres include futuristic worlds, mysteries, and super powers. Any mixture of these three elements will peek my interest.

Okay, I have just launched the RP, as promised. Here is the link: roleplayerguild.com/topics/163972-the…

You'll see that everyone here has their desired ring reserved. I hope everyone can have a character sheet up as soon as possible, ideally within a week from today.

Thanks!
The Ten Rings

The year is 800 A.D. in an alternate reality of planet Earth. This is a time of emerging yet primitive technologies just as it was during our timeline. There are no dragons, mythical creatures, witches, or any other typical elements of fairy tales associated with this time period. Instead, things are quite factual and realistic... up to a point.

Our story differs from factual human history with the existence of Ten Rings of Power. The origins of these rings are long since forgotten, but tales of their might sing throughout the ages. Each of these rings is powered by a mystical jewel. These jewels can be divided into two groups: The Seven Rainbow Stones and The Three Cosmic Crystals. Each ring bestows unique powers to it's wearer and also effects his or her personality. The longer you wear a ring, the more powerful you will become, but at the same time, your personality will also be changed just as dramatically.

These are the ten rings and their effects upon their wearers:

These rings are highly coveted and indestructible. Some are locked away for safe keeping or hidden and forgotten about. Others are passed down from generation to generation within distinct families. Others have been stolen or passed along frequently based off a previous owner's whim.

There are legends of people wielding two or three rings at once, but all those stories end in tragedy for the wearer or those around them as they descend into madness.

In this RP, you will create a character that either wears, carries, or protects one of these rings. Maybe your character stumbles across a ring. Maybe your character is gifted one. Maybe your character is a thief. Maybe your character is a guardian. In other words, how you come across your ring is up to you. What you do with it, is up to you.

My role as GM is to advance the plot when needed, but I would like to see what comes up naturally through collective story telling first. My most common plot device will simply be time skips. I will do this when we need to spice things up and make everyone more powerful.

Character Sheet

Name: First Last of (Made Up or Historical Kingdom)
Age:
Occupation:
Ring: Which one does this character posses?

Appearance: Picture Required. Description Optional. Picture style (e.g. anime or realistic) is completely up to you.

Biography: three or more paragraphs. Where is your character from? How did they grow up? What were there life goals? How did they discover their ring? What do they plan to do now that they posses a ring? Do they even know about their ring's power? Anything else you want to add.

Simply PM me a copy of your proposed character sheet or post it to the OOC section. I will provide feedback and approve or deny the character sheet. Once your character sheet is approved, you may copy and paste it into the Character Sheet tab.

Keep in mind that all new characters have to just recently become in possession of a ring. They couldn't have had it for more than a week. The power of any ring within this first week is very subtle, almost undetectable.

Rules

I'm going to get this RP live in about 4 hours!
I'm happy to see so much interest. I'll have this RP up and running tonight after work. Calling dibs on a ring now IS acceptable. I don't really care as much about my character's ring. So I call dibs on a ring only if 9 other rings have been spoken for.
I'm sure something like this RP has been done in the past, but hell, what hasn't? Right?

This RP will start in an alternate world with humans. Technology will comparable to the middle ages. There is no form of magic other than ten mythical rings that this RP is based upon. The ten rings are forged with special artifacts: the seven Rainbow Stones and the Three Cosmic Crystals. Each of these rings bestow great power upon their owner, but also effects their personality. The longer you are in possession of one of these rings the stronger your connection with it becomes. Therefore, the longer your character has a ring, the more powerful your character becomes and the more your character's personality is effected.

The 10 rings are as follows:

Red Stone Ring: This is the ring of energy. With it, the user can control/create fire, electricity, and raw energy blasts/waves. The red ring will make the wearer more passionate yet quicker to anger.

Orange Stone Ring: This is the ring of air. With it, the user can control the wind, fly, and move faster. The orange ring will make the wearer happier yet more unstable when upset.

Yellow Stone Ring: This is the ring of life. With it, the user can heal others, regenerate quickly, and grant short term life to inanimate objects. The yellow ring will make the wearer more humble yet more gullible.

Green Stone Ring: This is the ring of ground. With it, the user can control dirt/rocks/minerals, plants, and metals. The green ring will make the wearer more loyal yet relentless, even when in the wrong.

Blue Stone Ring: This is the ring of water. With it, the user can control/create water, fog/steam, and ice. The blue ring will make the wearer more calm yet unable to show emotions.

Indigo Stone Ring: This is the ring of death. With it, the user can drain others to heal, increase decay among the living, and control the dead. The indigo ring will make the user more accepting/understanding yet prone to depression.

Violet Stone Ring: This is the ring of animals. With it, the user can communicate with and control animals and partially or completely transform into animals. The violet ring will make the user more careful/considerate yet more paranoid.

Black Crystal Ring: This is the ring of space. With it, the user can teleport his/herself as well as objects and other people. It also allows the user to create or remove empty space thus pushing/pulling objects. The black ring will make the user more intelligent yet overly analytical of simple situations.

Clear Crystal Ring: This is the ring of time. With it, the user can slow, stop, or accelerate the passage of time around his/herself, an object, or another person. Larger targets and bigger impacts on time cost more effort. The clear ring will make the user more focused yet distant/indifferent.

White Crystal Ring: This is the ring of matter. With it, the user can reshape inanimate objects, create objects out of thin air, and alter his/her own body to become stronger or change appearance. The white ring will make the user more confident yet more arrogant/reckless.

I would like to start this RP off with at least two others. Obviously, there is a 10 person limit though.

What do you think? Are you interested? Reply if you are.

Thanks!!

The Docks

Nick

Nick laid peacefully against a steep hill that led down to the docks. Beside him, Little Guy (Munchlax) lay dozing off. Feathers perched comfortably on one of Nick's raised knee caps. Hands behind his head, he sighed. He planned on doing so much today, but in the end, he just wandered around the town aimlessly.

Wow, I'm really not good at this whole Pokemon trainer thing. I mean, what's the point? I don't want to battle or participate in any Pokemon contests. But it is fun having friends and exploring I suppose.

The stars shined bright that night, reflected perfectly by the calmly moving waters. Glancing down at the water's reflections, something caught Nick's eye, a faint red light at the water's edge, blinking in an slow pattern. Straining his eyes to see in the dark, Nick soon realized what he was actually looking at, a Staryu! Nick remembered the empty pokeball still in his pocket. It would be cool to have a 'star-like' Pokemon, he thought.

Slowly, Nick sat up, trying not to startle the Staryu down below. Feathers looked at him in confusion and let out a small chirp. Nick quickly raised on finger to his mouth and pointed down at the Staryu with his other finger. Without a distinguishable face or anything, it was hard to tell if the Pokemon was asleep or awake. If it was asleep it would be easier to catch, but something inside Nick told him that catching a Pokemon while it was sleeping would be kind or rude. Should he wake the creature up? Then what? Battle it? Talk to it? All these questions were disheartening. Maybe he should just let it go. Maybe it wasn't worth the trouble.

A loud grumbling sound echoed in the night followed by an extremely loud, "MUNCH MUNCH!!!" Little Guy had woken from his nap with only one thing on his mind, food!

Not thinking, Nick blurted out loudly, "Come on man, we just ate!!" Throwing one hand over his mouth Nick shot his glaze back down to the Staryu who was now standing up on two of it's appendages. Something about it's stance didn't seem friendly. Oh no, this was it. Nick's first Pokemon battle! ... and he didn't have a clue what to do...

I'm not going to tag anyone in this little announcement. I'd rather leave it as a cookie for those that see it...

Mixing of the two RPs has already begun (the RPG Guild thread and the Website). Check out the post I have just released on the website to see what I mean:

Parent's House

Nick

A cold splash of water hit's Nick right in the face. This wakes him up very abruptly. A word comes to mind, and he almost screams it out, that is until he realizes his mother is standing over him in her light blue night gown. In her hands is the blue bucket, a bucket that she has used since he was young to splash him with water if he was hard to wake. It had been years since the last time she used it though.

"What's going on?" His voice is barely audible, mostly just grumbling.

His mother spoke with a mixture of agitation and excitement. "You slept right through an earthquake! The media is on high alert, and there's going to be a press release any second! Now get out of bed and come down stairs!" With that she grabbed him by the arm pulling him out of bed.

Nick wore nothing but boxers. A slight rush of embarrassment turned his face bright red. Mom! Stop! Can I put some shorts on?!"

Oh, hurry up then! She shouted impatiently. Under her breath she mumbled, "Like I didn't change your diapers..."

By the time the two of them got down stairs, the live press release broadcast had just ended. In front of the TV sat his father, obviously deep in thought (in his own pair of boxers of his own). So deep in thought, he hadn't even noticed his wife and son enter the room.

Nick's mother shouted in frustration, "Oh great! We missed it! That's what I get for trying to include this lazy boy in something that's actually exciting!" Closing her eyes, she face palmed herself in defeat, letting the room fall silent.

Her outburst startled Nick's father out of his own thoughts as he glanced over at the two of them before turning back to the TV. Nick had nothing to offer but a tired yawn. "Can I go back to sleep now? The sun's hardly even up."

"Wait..." a thought popped into her head, a brilliant idea that couldn't wait. Raising her head up she immediately insisted, "Rewind the TV!". Nick's father had already started skipping backwards, though. By the time she finished her command, he pushed play.

The three of them watched the news coverage two more times. When done, Nick watched as his mom and dad vollied guesses over which Pokemon could have caused the earthquake. They even tried to bring Nick in on the guessing game, though he didn't have anything to add. He had never been one for legends. But, he did have to admit; some sense of curiosity was stirring within him.

After the initial excitement of the morning, Nick decided to stay awake and get an early start on his adventure. His adventure that would truly start today. A couple hours of preparation and Nick was walking out the front door. His Munchlax had remained asleep the whole time, but Feathers (Starly) flew by his side. He had one plan: "Head into Central City. There he would decide what to do next, maybe catch a train to another town, maybe Tefan village."

Breaking News!!!

News channels all across the planet are reporting on the earth shaking phenomenon mere moments after its conclusion. The following is a direct quote from PokeCorp's very own correspondant Jackie Luvall...

"I am here at the 'Institute of Seismic Studies' located at the base of Mount Jerimus near the small village of Tefan. A crowd of reporters from various networks are already arriving on scene outside. I'm lucky enough to be standing here with Public Relations Executive, Dr. Jeff Siesmore. Dr. Siesmore, we at Poke-News were the first organization that your institution reached out to. Does this mean a Pokemon was involved in this catastrophic event? And if so, could it be Groudon, the legendary Pokemon that is said to live within the very mountain next to us?"

"Thank you Jackie. Yes, we do have reason to believe that this event has been caused by a Legendary Pokemon of some kind. Whether is was Groudon or not is yet to be confirmed. What is especially strange however, is that all our readings cannot locate the hypocenter of this earthquake. Usually our instruments can pinpoint the exact cause of an earthquake of any magnitude, be it natural tectonic movement or a trainer's Sandshrew that just hit level 46. It would stand to reason that an earthquake created by any Pokemon, even Groudon, would have a distinct hypocenter. In this case, it's as if the entire planet shook without reason. We are looking into possibilities, but at the moment there is only one thing we can confirm. This event is too out of the ordinary to be caused by any naturally occurring means. This is truly a testament to the awe inspiring power that Pokemon possess."

Jackie seems awestruck for a moment before snapping back to reality. She tries to continue her line of questioning, but Dr. Siesmore only responds with, "No further comments at this time. Thank you." Two body guards step forward as he gives a polite nod before walking away.

Realizing that is all she is going to get out of the interview, Jackie turns back to face the camera directly, "There you have it. A powerful Pokemon is indeed the cause of recent events. Which one might it be? Groudon, Heatran, or maybe some other, no one knows for sure. Visit our website and tell us which Pokemon you think caused this uproar. Until next time, this is Jackie Luvall, and this has been another segment of 'Poke-Watch', only on Poke-News!"

This segment was live, just as the sun was setting in Teffan Village. A recording became available as a notification on the Pokedex of trainers everywhere moments after its completion.
Rumbling...

The whole world shakes. Flying Pokemon take to the skies. Ground Pokemon emerge from their homes. And every living creature is left wondering, "Did that just happen? That wasn't just any earthquake..."
