RISING UP TO THE CHALLENGE OF OUR RIVALS!

Bio

This is my second profile on here, and I have been Play-By-Post RPing for about nine years now. I do my best to see every RP to the end or at least let my character come to his/her own dramatic conclusion when I feel like signing off. Just like novel writing in real life, I tend to find myself on long hiatuses. Since writing is a great way to work out your brain, I try stay engaged as much as possible.

My favorite genres include futuristic worlds, mysteries, and super powers. Any mixture of these three elements will peek my interest.

The Grimoire Festival

"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the 2000th annual "Grimoire Festival"! I am your host and Master of Ceremonies, Lusha Rayzwa! But you may call me Mr. MC!! To commemorate this monumental occasion, a normally forbidden reanimation spell has been cast, and we are proud to bring you the great, the powerful, "Merlin of Ole"! As one of the founding members of this festival, how do you feel about being here today, in the year 2018?"

"I'm honored to be here, despite my disappointment in the means by which this was accomplished. But I'll overlook this grotesque misuse of power, for the deed has already been done."

"Brilliantly put, oh wise one! We thank you for your participation. Now, on the show!!!

Trumpets play as...

This RP will be a competition where you, the user, control one character. Your character is a novice sorcerer/sorceress that has been selected for the honor of competing in a grand magical tournament known as the Grimoire Festival.

In this world, all spells and incantations must be kept inside your personal Grimoire
book in order to use them. You don't have lug a giant book around or anything, as you can summon your book from thin air any time you wish to add or remove new spells.

For the purpose of this tournament, young novices are placed in an uninhabited landscape. Their personal books have been confiscated, and they have each been given a brand new blank Grimoire. The object of the competition is to collect powerful spells and become stronger as a magic user.

Character Sheets will not actually be located in the Character's tab as individual posts. Instead, you will PM me, @Balthazar007 with your character sheet. Instead, posts in the Character section will be reserved for the addition of new Spells.

Your character will start of with three Magic Crystals. Magic Crystals are used to create new Spells. Once a new Spell is posted into the Character section, it can gain power by being 'Liked' by users on this site. Yes, even users not directly participating in our RP.

We will be using this site's dice roll mechanic, in a simple way, to determine outcomes of battles. Basically, a challenger can attack an opponent with an offensive spell, that the opponent then tries to block with a defensive spell, or with shear magic energy. This is done as one dice roll minus another dice roll. If the defender has any health left, then they can turn around and attack. This goes back and forth until one person has no health left.

When the battle is finished the winner can either claim one spell from the looser's spell book OR take one of their Crystals (winner's choice). Once a character is out of spells AND crystals. That user will be eliminated from the tournament.

I will act as the MC and moderator. I will be in charge of dice rolls and keeping track of health and every character's spells.

The tournament has three phases. One, the entry phase, where we accept as many new users as possible. Two the middle phase, where we stop taking new applicants and start slowly offering power ups. Three the final phase, where power ups are a plenty so that we come to a climax to find our champion quickly.

This RP may take many months to complete, or maybe just a couple. It all depends on how I'm feeling about its pace.

So what do you think? Yea or Nay?
@Balthazar007
So do we post as if our characters are starting over or continue where we left off?

Time skip to a few days later.

EDIT: My character just never got that far in the old RP. lol
Nicholas (Nick) Dalton

Central City

Nick wiped his eyes as he woke from his nap to the sound of ringing. He didn't remember setting any alarms. Then he came to a realization, it was an incoming call. Picking it up and opening, he looked to see who it could be. It was his mother again.

He had been lying to his parents for the last few days. One of them would always call, every single day. They would ask him about all the wonderful places he had been and people he had met. He would entertain their curiosity for as long as they asked questions. There was the time that he had to take on two trainers at once and barely managed to win. There was the time that he went swimming with an entire school of Staryu. And of course there was the Shaymin sighting on his first day after leaving home. None of these stories were true of course, just tall tells that satisfied their vicarious urges. In reality, he just lazed around the river side all day. If he wasn't there, he was eating free meals at the Poke Center.

His heart just wasn't in it today. He turned the call away with a message, which read "Sorry Mom, I'm training for a Pokemon battle. Can you call me back tomorrow?" Not three seconds went by before he got his reply, "Of course son! That's wonderful. Good luck!"

Honestly Nick couldn't believe it was that easy. He should have used that one sooner! But his two Pokemon, Little Guy (Munchlax) and Feathers (Starly) weren't going to let him off that easily. They stood on either side of him, staring with tons of disapproval. They never did like it when he lied to his parents, but rejecting the call with a message? That was a new low.

"Come on you two!" Nick's voice was pleading, genuinely ashamed, "Don't give me those looks." They continued to aim their cute yet penetrating gazes right into Nick's heart. "Okay, Okay, How about we actually do some training today? Maybe even catch us a new Poke friend? Then that wouldn't necessarily have been a lie." Munchlax seemed quite content with this suggestion, giving a small nod and a, "Munch munch!". Starly on the other hand kept a "I'll believe it when I see it." attitude. She flew over and perched on Nick's shoulder, as if to say, "Well let's get on with it".

With a deep sigh, Nick stood up. And looked at the water below for signs of life. The river was especially quite today, as the sun struck it from high in the sky. The gentle current reflected a beautiful display of dancing light. Walking down towards the rocky bank, a wild Crabby walked out of the water, minding its own business. From atop Nick's shoulder, Feathers began chirping down towards the Crabby. In an instant, the Crabby looked ready to battle.

"Oh man, what did you say Feathers?" Feathers fluttered her wings mischievously. "What has gotten into you?" Little Guy stood right beside Nick, trying to contain a fit of laughter. "Well, I guess we gotta battle now, eh?" As if in response, Feathers flew down and landed on a nearby rock, only a few feet away from the wild Crabby. The time for Nick's first Pokemon battle had finally come, and it was long over due...

@Zarkun

Oh hey, I spoke too soon. Archaeological items are not sold in Poke Marts. That's why they don't have a price listed. My reasoning is that those aren't items that can just be mass produced. Those are artifacts that have to be dug up by an Archaeologist.

I don't think I clearly stated that anywhere, so that slip up is my fault.
UPDATE:

So some of you may have noticed that the day and night cycles have slowed down a bit. Consequentially, there are no more sunrise/sunset Pokemon level boosts. To offset this loss, I have removed constrictions on how often you can battle to raise a Pokemon's level (wild Pokemon battles & PvP battles).
@LuckyBlackCat

Two notes on your Character sheets.

One, I assume you're planning on keeping track of your Pokemon levels within your IC hiders instead of your character sheet. That's cool by me, just making sure.

Two, I have brought back the 6 classic Pokemon party limit. So if a trainer has eight, you'll either have to invest in a new "Good Poke Belt" item from a shop or put pokemon into your PC for backups. (AKA reserves)
@Balthazar007 I finished updating the Pokemart. How's it look now?

Perfect! All good to go!

It's primarily the pokeballs, since those are essential for growing our Pokemon collection.

I lowered the prices on PokeBalls just now. Also, if someone creates a 'Research and Development Institution' dedicated to PokeBalls, characters in that organization get them at half price.
@Balthazar007 ah right! i might redact my character then because his backstory won't work with that and i'm a little thin on ideas. maybe i'll join at some other time though, good luck with this bc it seems neat!

I don't see why that has to effect his backstory. The Ghastly could have been a tag along companion for a long time. Once he gets his first PokeBall however, he can catch it and officially start training it.

We all had to build our Pokemon up from level 1. It's not that hard.
<Snipped quote by Balthazar007>

I have to offer some refutation on items. We now don't have potions, which were kinda helpful, and for those of us not in an organization like the Helping Hands Guild, a lot of the items are beyond obtaining. Perhaps reevaluate the prices.

I got rid of Potions because they complicated the whole PvP atmosphere that I'm trying to expand upon. They can't be used in battle in Pokemon Showdown. And there is no way to accurately represent a Pokemon going into a Pokemon Showdown battle with only a portion of it's HP.

Therefore, I added a 'healing feature' for PokeBalls to rid the need for Potions at all. PokeBalls (of all kinds) now heal Pokemon as long as the trainer isn't in battle.

I'm still playing with pricings. I think missions now deal out more TP. That's why I went upward. I can come back down a bit though.
