The things he can do are no more dependent on the lights absence than his limits

Dawn-Day(umbral strength:Weak)
He could fire shadow bullet
Make darkness
Construct small things from shadow
Dusk(umbral strength:moderate)
He could create make normal sised objects/weapons

Nightfall(umbral strength:Full power)
He can do all of the above but much easier/stronger
He can create nonsentient allies
Make virtually anything he wishes
He can create sentient animals(not allies, this concerns things like riding horses, shadow Phoenix's or anything rideable)
Basically the light is a universal hindrance for his power, the sunlight is the biggest hindrance that is able to exist, artificial light such as flashlights or lamps, depending on their brightness would also be weaknesses, UV light is a grey area for this weakness, it is somewhere within the boundaries of the sunlight and an especially bright floodlight.
One day someone did him and his family horribly wrong, he wished to be able to get revenge, he woke up with the powers to will the darkness to his wishings
Personality:jack is calm, quite and somber and doesn't talk much, he is smart, clever and rarely smiles.
