Liam was as well as the heroes entered the gym. The leader, Falkner introduced himself and said each trainer got to use two Pokemon. He then inquired who wanted to go first.
"I sure am." Liam said in agreement.
Liam did some more training and returned to the Pokemon Center once he felt he had done an adequate job.
Liam stayed at the Sprout Tower for many hours. Eventually ghost Pokemon started appearing. A ball of gas appeared.
"Gastly, the Gas Pokemon. Its body is made of gas. It is born from gases. Despite lacking any substance, it can envelop an opponent of any size and cause suffocation. Anyone would faint if engulfed by its gaseous and poisonous body."
Liam noted that its appearance did not match the Pokedex, like his Lapras and Sherlock. He sent Cynder out to battle it. Cynder managed to burn the ghost. The Gastly used hypnosis and put Cynder to sleep. Liam threw a Pokeball and made a capture.

Violet City was soon in sight. Liam checked in at the Pokemon Center. He decided to go to Sprout Tower to do some training before going to the gym. He knew that he had no Pokemon on him with an advantage there. While he was carrying one of his more experienced Pokemon with him as a precaution, he did not want to rely on his other Pokemon this early in a new region. Cynder and Starly would do normal damage, and Butterfree would be at a disadvantage.
Well, our other player stopped posting. That has stalled as a bit, so no worries.
The pair made it to Cherrygrove and found that the path which was previously blocked by a battle between a Pidgey and Ratata was now clear. Liam encountered multiple Pidgey and Ratata and used this time to train Pokemon, Metapod specfily. He then encountered a Sentert.
"Sentret, the Scout Pokemon. When acting as a lookout, it stands on its tail to see a long ways away. it warns others of danger by screeching and hitting the ground with its tail. to alert others,"
"Harden Metapod!" Liam called. The Sentret used Quick Attack and hit Metapod before the stat buff could happen. The Cocoon was sent flying into a nearby tree. The Metapod fell out of the tree to the ground. Liam noticed a crack in the Pokemon's body. A jet of white light issued from the crack. The crack grew and so did the white light a figure emerged from the cocoon.
"[i]Butterfree, the Butterfly Pokemon, and Caterpie's fully evolved form. It loves the honey of flowers and can locate flower patches that have even tiny amounts of pollen. The wings of this Pokemon are protected by rain-repellent dust. As a result, this Pokémon can fly about even in rain."
"Butterfree, use Confusion!"Liam ordered. On the command, The Sentret was smacked with psychic energy and was KO'd. Liam praised Butterfree on evolving.

Prof Elm took the two Pokeballs and healed them up in a machine he had in his lab and returned them to the trainers. He then handed Shiranui the egg. Liam thanked the Prof and turned to his traveling companion. "Ready to move on to Violet City?" he inquired.
Starly was hit and knocked to the ground, KO'd. Liam recalled the bird. "Well, I guess that means you win." Liam said.
