Kingdom: Hails from Looking Glass Studios, but when the Kingdom fell he left for Ion Storm, and when that Kingdom fell he went to Square Enix, specifically the Eidos Montreal district of the Kingdom.
Written Description: Garrett is a rather small man, only 5'7 and weighing in at 149 pounds. He has pale, almost porcelain skin and close-cropped warm black hair. A small scar runs from above Garrett's right eye to his upper-right cheek, and in place of a normal eye his right eye is mechanical, with the 'whites' of the eye being metal and the 'pupil' being a neon green color. His left eye, which is still normal, is a hazel brown. Normally, he sports the outfit seen in the first photo. When out on missions or thieving, Garrett is seen in all black and leather, with a hood pulled over his head and cloth pulled over his mouth, as seen in the second photo. His thieving outfit also sports elevator shoes, boosting his height by three inches.
Personality: Garrett is normally a quiet man who is only interested in looking out for himself. However, when he does open his mouth to say something, it's usually either a sarcastic quip, a cynical remark, or a big middle finger to the person he's talking with. Due to his past (see: getting his eye torn out by someone he came to care for, having his fence turn him into the city guard, etc.) he's not very trusting and is careful not to get close to anyone. Despite his rough and callous exterior, Garrett is actually a rather kind person deep down. He doesn't believe in stealing from his allies or the poor, and only robs upper-class people or those he believes deserve it. In addition to these things, he is also horrified by killing, having vowed to never take a life unless there is no other way (see: the last mission of Thief: The Dark Project). Regarding sexuality, Garrett is a heterosexual, though he doesn't believe in attachments or long-term relationships (I suppose you could classify this as being aromantic but heterosexual). Basically, he'll bone any woman he can, but the second she so much as implies the two being in a real relationship he'll bolt. Garrett also doesn't take sides in large conflicts, instead choosing to just remain neutral until he gets dragged back in by one side or the other (in terms of factions, pretty much all of his allies have been his enemy or vice versa at one point or another).
Games: Thief: The Dark Project, Thief 2: The Metal Age, Thief: Deadly Shadows, and Thief (2014). Garrett considers the last one to be a rough part of his life that he'd like very much to forget about.
Current Story: Following the events of Thief (2014), Garrett decided he had enough of being dragged into large scale conflicts despite being just a simple thief, and chose to exile himself. After living out in the wilds and regaining his old voice actor (because I want Stephen Russell, not some Italian dude who sounds like he shat himself), Garrett eventually reintegrated into society and went back to thieving. This time he promised himself that if any faction tries to convince him to join their side again, he'll rob them blind as a way of answer (note: he's probably gonna get dragged back in again anyway).
Weapons: Blackjack (has no offensive capabilities save for knocking out unaware people), sword (though he doesn't have much skill in using it, as he's never really had to use it due to being a master thief and all that. It's only for instances where stealth is not an option and, even then, Garrett just uses it until his opponents are incapacitated and not dead), and a bow and arrows (has normal broadhead arrows to start with but can acquire quite a number of different types, from water arrows to rope arrows to noisemaker arrows).
Stats Level One (P)Damage 2 (P)Defense 2 (M)(E)Damage 1 (M)(E)Defense 1 Dexterity 4 0% (This is critical damage. Everyone starts at 0%.) XP ////////// (0/10)
General Abilities
Slot One: Swoop - Moving from cover to cover has never been so easy! Garrett can use Swoop to move from cover to cover, shadow to shadow, etc. (or he can just use it to get around a bit faster). It acts as a way to teleport across short distances (so long as there is solid ground between those distances) silently. Although it generates no noise on normal floors, if there are noisy things such as paper or broken glass or things in the way that can be knocked over on the floor that Garrett is Swooping across, noise will still be made (be it from glass/paper crunching or said item being knocked over).
Special Abilities
Slot One.
Items Slot One. Slot Two. Slot Three.
Strengths - Master Thief: To put it basically, Garrett is one of the quietest, sneakiest bastards you've (n)ever seen. He's an expert thief, and can usually escape any situation so long as he has a flash bomb and a place to hide. (Garrett is really, really stealthy obviously) - Master Lockpicker: Garrett can bypass any lock so long has he has his trusty picks on him, and for some locks all it'd take is a bobby pin for him to crack it. (Garrett can unlock normal doors [nothing magic or technological preventing them from being opened, just a lock]) - Bottomless Pockets: Garrett can fit massive stacks of gold, candlesticks, urns and pocket watches in his pockets. After all, what's the point of being a thief if you can't carry out everything that isn't nailed to the floor? (Garrett can carry a shitload of loot items and gold, though equipment is a different story) - Mechanical Eye: Garrett has a mechanical eye in place of his right eye, which he can use to zoom in and enhance his vision. It helps him see small details that can't be picked up by the naked eye, and it can also enhance his aim with his bow.
Weaknesses Due to almost never having been caught, Garrett's combat skills are... A bit rusty. By that, I mean that if he engages in a one-on-one fight, he might make it with a bit of ingenuity. Two people and he'll have a lot of trouble. Three people and he's fucked unless he has a good number of health potions and flash bombs on him. Four or more? Forget about it. He also has a code of honor, meaning that killing is a no-no. If he kills anyone, unintentionally or not, he'll break down for a while. It'd be dangerous if this happened in the midst of combat, as it leaves him open to be attacked and, due to his squishy nature, an enemy could easily cut him down in a hit or two. On top of both of these two things, he's also from an era without much technology; anything futuristic is new and alien to him, and as such he's only trained in the use of his bow and other tools. Hand him a gun from the future and he'll have no clue what to do with it.
Well. A job. Walter didn't know what to made of that. On one hand, money for days. On the other, stress leads to hair loss. He could do without that. But hey, he had to get a job to stay in the school, so oh well. Besides, the hat and mask hid his hair so he could deal with it. After weighing the pros and cons, and figuring he was only on his second day so it'd make him look lazy if he dropped out, Walter sighed and leaned against a wall, crossing his arms and not saying anything as he watched his classmates talk amongst themselves about this new development.
Denny continued to play his flute for a while, and he was in the middle of a flute rendition of Another One Bites The Dust when he heard an announcement:
Attention All Employees. There Is A Meeting In The Board Room In 10 Minutes. Please Do Not Be Late.
"Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, meeting time!" He shouts, shoving his flute into his belt and throwing his hands in the air. He then ran as fast as he could to the meeting room, laughing in excitement. He always loved these meetings, especially the parts where Mr. Philip talked. He was so cool and smart and amazing and awesome and Denny wanted to be just like him! It didn't matter that most of these meetings ended with the gruesome deaths of half the disposable, unnamed redshirts known as the staff, they were awesome!
But one thing Denny didn't like about the meetings was walking past the...
LARGE METAL DOOR
It scared him. For some reason he didn't like it, it was just so...
M E N A C I N G
He meekly walked up to it, placing a hand on it. He shuttered when he touched it, and his hands felt icy. He ran away as fast as he could, and opened the door to the meeting room. Inside was, well, the meeting room. He took a seat at a chair, and played his flute while waiting for everyone else to arrive. He felt uneasy after his encounter with the
"A pleasure to meet you as well, Miss Ètoiles." Garrett replied. When he heard her speak of revenge for what the Enforcer did to her arm, he chuckled. "You'll get used to it, kid. In this line of work you're bound to get hurt a lot. I have more than my fair share of scars, though thankfully none of them got to my face. Would be a shame to tarnish my rugged good looks." He said with another laugh, gesturing to his face.
The girl then asked him what specialized in. "Specialize? Well, back when I was a young man and still a fool bound to the Parliament and the Enforcers, I suppose you could say I specialized in recon and infiltration, though it wasn't an official thing. Most of my missions were scouting out the areas around enemy camps, and sometimes I would have to sneak in to get something of value or to assassinate a commander or something or other. Of course I saw my fair share of battles, and I was even awarded with this for my efforts."
Garrett then reached into his inner coat pocket with his left hand, and Ètoiles could probably catch a glimpse of his faded and scarred Parliament tattoo. He pulled out what appeared to be a sword hilt, tossed it into his right hand, then pressed a button on the hilt. A blade popped out, and he moved it around in his hand for a bit. "My weapon of choice. Well, either this or my flintlock. Or both." He says, pulling the gun out of its holster with his left hand and showing it off to the girl. Garrett then holstered the gun and collapsed the blade into its hilt, putting them back in their proper places.
Jethro was laying in bed, slowly drifting into sleep despite the extremely uncomfortable bed he was sleeping in. Springs were sticking out of it, and there were several hard lumps in the mattress. He hated it. But he was stuck with it, after what that bastard Harrington did. He wanted nothing more than to get his old life back, but he was stuck here. For now, at least.
Eventually he fell asleep, dreaming of nothing and everything at the same time. He soon woke up, or at least felt that he woke up, and noticed that something was... Off about the room. It was darker than he remembered, and the little light that was there gave off a purplish hue. He stood up, looking around warily. He walked slowly to his balcony door, peeking through the keyhole. The streets were gone, giving way to a vast, empty void.
Jethro gasped in shock and jumped back, falling on his ass. There was nothing out there. Was this a dream? It couldn't be, it felt so real... He needed answers. The only way to go was outside. He quickly grabbed his coat and trousers, sliding the trousers on and throwing the coat over his bare chest and buttoning it up. He slowly walked down the stairs and to the front door. He opened it.
He would've stepped forward, but, before he could, he noticed that there was no ground there. He looked up at the balcony. There were platforms there, floating in mid-air as if to spite gravity. Looks like that was the only way he could go. Quickly, he ran back up the stairs and out the balcony. He climbed up on the railing, then leaped to the platform. It was smooth yet rocky, rock hard yet soft as a baby's tush. The texture was indescribable; as if all synonyms and antonyms of the proper word for it had clashed together, trying hard to overthrow each other, though none won and were forced to compromise, leading to this odd surface.
Jethro continued leaping from platform to platform, until he came across what appeared to be an island. He jumped onto it, looking about. It looked similar to his home... As in, his old home, the mansion. He was awed by it. Then, a person appeared, looking to be a young man wearing a brown coat. His hair was pitch black and cut in a boyish way... but what really captivated Jethro was the man's eyes. They were almost pitch black, as if he was staring into an empty void, emptier than the one here. He was floating a foot or so off the ground. He spoke:
"My dear Jethro. What a sad fate hand has dealt you... Your home and life and work, all taken from you by an imposter. Your friends have turned on you for a bit of coin, and have left you to rot in the slums of Dunwall. Don't you want revenge?" The man asked, his voice a bored monotone as if this conversation meant nothing.
"I want nothing but revenge." Jethro answered. At this, the man's lips twisted into something of a faint smile. "Hm. That's what I expected." The man said, crossing his arms. He rose his head slightly, as if he was about to ask Jethro if there was something up his nose, when he nodded slightly. Jethro felt a burning sensation in his left hand, and he yelped in pain. He looked there. A mark was being burnt into it, steam rising from it. It felt like he was being branded... Finally, it stopped. On his hand was a black mark, like a tattoo.
"I am the Outsider, and this is my mark. This is the place you call The Void. I have given to you what I have given to many. What you do with it lies with you. Only a handful of people have been gifted with my mark, some you may know, such as Corvo Attano and his daughter, Empress Emily Kaldwin." The man, no, The Outsider said to Jethro. Jethro nodded, rather shocked at this new revelation. "What does your mark do?" He asked.
"It gives you the powers you need to take back what's yours. Because, if there's one thing I've learned from the people I've gifted with my mark... It's that revenge solves everything." The Outsider replied. "Now, you must leave. What you do with my mark is up to you, but know this: I will be watching you with great interest. Farewell." And with that, the man vanished, and Jethro jolted awake. It was just a dream, thankfully. He laughed it off, then got up.
Jethro was still getting used to how he went from the brightest inventor and artist in all of Dunwall to a filthy peasant. A month ago, he was living in a large, beautiful mansion with rooms dedicated just to his art. Now he lived in a small apartment that could barely fit a bed and easel, much less any of the luxuries he was used to. With a sigh, he walked back into his home from the balcony and turned on the sink, cold water flowing from the faucet.
He splashed the water on his face, looking in the mirror. A month ago, his hair was cut nice and neat and he was cleanly shaven. Now, his hair draped his face and he was starting to grow a rather bushy beard. He was also noticeably scrawnier, as switching from large feasts to stale bread and cheap wine should leave him. He reached to shut the faucet off, this time with his left hand rather than his right... When he noticed something.
The mark was still there.
The dream was true. It actually happened. He had been gifted with... Something. He just needed to know what. Jethro closed his hand, trying to flex just the muscles there. Soon enough, a blue tint began to emit from his closed palm, and the mark glowed bright. He then let it go, and appeared on the other side of his apartment. "What in the Void...?" He asked himself. He did it again, and flew out the balcony door and onto the balcony.
"Some sort of... Teleportation?" He asked, pulling himself up. "This is what I need to get my revenge? What a load of bullshit." He scoffed. The Outside gave him the ability to teleport. Yeah, like that'll be of any use. Nonetheless, the weight of this new revelation weighed heavy on him. Of all the people in Dunwall, the Outsider chose him. He needed a drink to get it out of his mind. He began to walk down the street, pondering his predicament, when he came across a pub. The Hound Pits. Well, it's a start.
Taking a deep breath, Jethro walked through the door.
