Pretty much all of the strawhats had tragic back stories.

Personality: Max is a sweet boy, who cares a lot about those close to him. While he's not violent by nature, when pushed into corner he can get pretty desperate, like a trapped animal. Naturally paranoid, he tends to keep several things sealed up in cards, which he keeps inside his body. While he would much rather get out of a fight with his deck of tricks, he's more then capable of fighting if escape isn't an option
Biography: Max's never knew his family. As an orphan, Max grew up in an orphanage on a small island in the Grand Line. He spent his early childhood alone, and he soon found himself in a rut. That all changed when one day, pirates attacked his home. Max however managed to escape
With nowhere to go, Max crafted a crude raft to sail away from his once home. However, the Grand Line isn't a very safe place for dingy rafts, as Max soon found out. Stranded on a deserted island, Max had to forage for his own food. One day, he found a strange looking fruit. Hungry and not thinking straight, he took a bite of it...and immediately spat it out. Not long after that, his left arm crumbled into cards. In a panic, he grabbed up all the cards and they were absorbed back into his body, restoring his arm. Max now understood that what he had just bitten into was a devil fruit. After he was finally able to make another raft and leave the island, he came across a book on devil fruits. After finding his in there, he final knew just what it did to him...and what powers he now had

Wait! I got a different idea for a devil fruit; a trading card themed one. similar to the the Pasa Pasa no Mi, The Card Card Fruit would allow the user to turn their body into cards. They could also create cards of varying sizes that would be able to store various things from. Once somethings been stored, it can be released at any time in a different manor depending on what was stored. At first it would only be objects, but then he would learn to store more abstract things like abilities, techniques, and even knowledge.
If Kuma could 'push' someone pain out of their body, then I'm pretty sure that I would be able to get away with storing more abstract things

I'll accept the use of it, but only on two conditions.1: he has to start off at a somewhat bad start, not really having any use or complete control over it.2: if there is any chance at all to use the devil fruit in a comical or humorous way, then you will take those shots. I want this roleplay to have some light elements and keep it from being so serious and gritty.
Dude...I swear you just read my mind. It was always my intention for him to be inexperienced with it, that's the entire point. I want to explore what the road from "WHY IS MY ARM GIANT AND GOLD!?" to Sengoku level is. Hell, the idea was for him to have gotten it less then a month ago
