That actually may be even better. A young savaris among a group of geniuses, being pushed to exceed his limits to keep up with his rivals. Sounds amazing.

For the most part I do like the character, and the reasons are understandable. The only issue I can think of is the fact everyone was drafted into the shinigami academy and were able to graduate. Which I"m not sure would happen if he wasn't at least able to use his Shikai. I'll have to think of this.

Although, one way around it is that he lost his zanpakuto at some point, and just never got around to trying to find it as his fighting styles worked fine without it?

Well, there's that and many other prominent members were able to acquire seats without a need for shikai. Kenpachi himself didn't realize his until the end of the series. The special forces don't use their zanpakuto majority of the time. Neither does the Kido Corps. I'm not trying to be a Kenpachi or anything I just believe it would be more worthwhile to discover it IC.

As far as a technical reason for graduating, he is a member of a powerful clan. Cant we just say some strings were pulled?

As the Elf made her way to the corridor the noise would stop, something wasn't right about this enemy. She would be met with the stairs from 15 pairs of glowing red eyes. Almost as if they could see the blood flowing through her veins and hear the beat of her heart even from so far away. However, the corridor was far too dark to see exactly what it was that was staring at her. Without a seconds glance the creatures would take off in a full sprint, much faster than the speed at which they had previously seen. Sensing the bloodlust creeping from the corridor, Sampson sprang into action. "We don't have time for this. Knights to Arms!!" He roared throwing himself in front of the corridor, just far enough inside so that none could pass him, at the same time, being close enough to the outside room to aluminate a small bit of the corridor. The knights follow suit, one joining his left and the other joining his right. "Jack you stay back. If it gets past us, kill it." The knight commanded with extreme authority. He unsheathed his sword, a brilliant blade both long and thick. An average knight wouldn't be able to lift such a thing but the Captain did so with ease. The knights following his lead brandished long swords of their own. "May the Fire of the Sun God guide us!" Sampson roared, his sword becoming completely engulfed in flame. Almost in complete sync, the knight's blades as well burned with an intense flame. In fact, the whole parties weapons began to burn with never before seen fire. When the enemies hit the light they were much different from the undead from before. These were fleshy creatures, decked out in golden armor with equally golden weapons. "Caro Comedenti (Flesh Eater)."

The first of the flesh-eating undead was quickly put down by Sampson with a clean slice, splitting the monster completely in half and setting it on fire. The soldiers doing the same, slicing them and letting them burn to ash. They were able to quickly dispatch 6 before 4 of the monsters snuck through. Either by jumping over, or sliding around, these monsters proved to be far craftier than the previously thought. The 4 rushed towards the ones they thought to be the weakest, the princess and the boy. Breaking into 2 groups, the undead split and set off towards their target.

Long story short, he can't hear it when it tries to speak to him. He's never been in a serious fight and he's a slacker, kind of a womanizer, a little bit of a drunkard but his Zanpakuto is the complete opposite. Serious and honorable. Even tho it still tries he is too blinded to hear it. Besides the personality conflicts he has with his Zanpakuto, there's also the fact that it's a straight up long sword, he has no sword skill at all so he barely uses her and prefers to stick to hakudo. Although now that I think about it, I should probably add the appearance in.

Savaris Kusanagi-Shihoin

Appearance: Savaris' looks break away from the traditional looks of a Shihoin and Adopt mostly Kusanagi Clan traits. He has medium brown skin and silver hair known to the Kusanagi clan. Instead of keeping his hair long like his siblings he prefers the distinction of short hair. He is slightly taller than his siblings being 6'2" and has a scar over his left eye.

Age: 86 Appears to be in the mid-20s
Personality: Calm and Laid back for the most part. Savaris is an optimist who believes that the world will continue to revolve, whether you live or you die. Because of this attitude, he is sometimes seen as uncaring but underneath his playboy facade is a man of true worth.
Backstory: The story of Savaris dates back years before his birth. His mother was the only living survivor of a massacre that killed the Kusanagi clan. While taking refuge with the Shihoin clan, she had an affair with the clan leader at the time. Such things were looked down upon and thusly his mother had to be punished. She was banished to the Rukongai with threats of death if she were to return. Instead, his mother chose to take her own life, pledging that she loved that master and always had. Savaris was raised alongside his half brother and sister as if they were equal. He knew the noble lifestyle as well as had access to finest food, clothes, and teachers. Despite that he never showed any ability as a soul reaper nor did the other nobles like or accept him.

Savaris childhood was spent most days by his lonesome deep in study. He may not have had any proficiency in fighting he showed exceptional skills in Kido. He didn't have a large reiatsu pool but he did know and understand the workings of Kido. No matter Bakudo or Hado, he was very proficient. After years and years, the genius gene finally awoke inside of him. His brother, Yoshiro, thought he was ready to go to the academy where he spent his time as events unfolded. He could do nothing as his sister was exiled, as his brother became the head of the Shihoin clan and later his siblings' death.

To the Shihoin Council, Members that lead the family until a new Head can be found, he is seen as nothing more than a slacker who can possibly be used for their gains. But Savaris has the resolve of his own. Despite that, however, he has still yet to unlock his Shikai and learn the name of Zanpakuto. After some years had passed, he heard of a new group being gathered together. The council saw it as a chance to either discourage Savaris or push him to become the leader he was meant to. The council pulled some strings and called in some debts just to make sure he was able to join the squad. This was no easy matter. Upon his departure, the council gave him one warning "Succeed or Die."
