Strevrols watched the various exchanges with interest, though he took a step back when weapons started getting waved around. He was an engineer, not a soldier, and it wouldn't do if he got himself killed over a misunderstanding of the Huragoks intentions. Once the mess had settled down somewhat though, he found himself agreeing with what Narak had said. They could stand around here and chat all day long, but at some point they needed to actually question the floating creature if they were to get anywhere.

The Oath The oath for the Adjudicators is as follows:
"Upon the bones of my ancestors I do swear never to use my power on another being save for in self defense or where it becomes necessary to do so in order to fulfill the conditions of a case and facilitate open communication between our people and others."
Should an Adjudicator break this vow, they shall be hunted down by a squad of Enforcers and taken back to Iuris for trial. Once it has been confirmed that the person in question has violated the oath and a consensus has been reached, the Arbiters will activate their N.P.N implant-Neural Pathway Nullifier-causing the brain of the accused to melt into a liquid soup, killing them. Their body will then be placed into a chemical preservation vat which houses a digital index on the crime(s) they committed, all to serve as a constant reminder of the price of betrayal.
Leadership The Arbiters - A council of twenty Aelon who preside over all matters pertaining to the organization as a whole. They rarely, if ever, speak audibly preferring to use telepathy for most of their conversations, which often gives them an air of general disregard and disdain towards those they involve themselves with.
Military/Civilian Assets
A spiny, almost insect-like craft, praetorin gunships make up the bulk of the Adjudicators small fleet and are most often used in capture or rescue missions as their small size-medium when compared to most strike craft and tiny when compared to regular ships-and accompanying armament of directed energy weapons makes them the perfect craft for hunting lone targets. On the flip side however, it also makes them rather weak to much larger warships, as they have no shielding to speak of and must rely on hull strength alone. In regards to power, all gunships have since been converted to work with their antimatter drives, a significant upgrade over the chemical and ion engines originally used.
The standard equipment used by all Enforcers within the organization, AEGIS armor-while organic in appearance-is actually quite advanced technology wise and has several built-in utilities such as a night vision mode for low light tracking, a footprint identifier, and a basic life support system to keep its wearer alive for a maximum of three days should they run out of supplies. Furthermore, it is made from a kinetically reactive material that hardens when being fired upon.
Although it is quite efficient overall, the armor does have one major flaw, that being the material itself. While lined with several internal sensors to make its impact detection and recovery times more accurate and quick, sustained fire on different parts of the suit such as the joints, arms, legs, or head will overload the sensors capability to manage those areas, rendering the material unmovable and the wearer helpless.
In addition to this major flaw, the suit has a minor one in the form of being powered by relatively traditional electronics due to the reverse engineering of human technology shortly after contact was made between the two races, meaning it is vulnerable to electromagnetic pulses as well.
The Neural Pathway Nullifier, or N.P.N. for short, is a small microchip embedded in the top of a subjects brain in order to create a remote kill-switch of sorts for the one who requested its insertion. While such chips are used primarly by governments or certain organization's-such as the Adjudicators-to ensure those with the implants do as they're told, some less savoury groups-such as slavers-have been known to use them whilst plying their illegal trade.
As for its specific effects, it works exactly how its name suggests by sending thousands of volts of electricity out along the neural pathways of a target, slowly killing them as their brain is simultaneously liquefied and burnt from the inside out.
Praetorin gunships utilized by the Adjudicators, while originally powered by chemical and later ion engine's, have since been switched over to drives running primarily on nuclear fusion with antimatter injectors serving as the catalyst for an antiproton annihilation process that generates massive amounts of thrust, making travel between two points much quicker. And thanks to their nimble design-as well as their strong reliance on nuclear fusion processes-Adjudicators gunships require much less antimatter than the average space craft, making the cost of creating such antiparticles much cheaper and their use as a fuel much more efficient, though not by much as some kinetic energy is invariably lost during the pion funneling process.
It goes without saying of course that antimatter in general is quite dangerous-being able to annihilate itself when coming into contact with regular matter-usually with very explosive results, thus facilitating the need for built in magnetic containment systems and other shipboard utilities.
The GXI-Pulse Rifle is the standard weapon used by Adjudicator enforcers while they are out in the field. Reverse engineered from human technology, this slightly modified design comes with an adjusting scope for long distance shots, a laser sight located under the barrel that can be toggled on or off depending on the wielders needs, and two different fire modes. One for stunning targets and another for eliminating them. In addition to this the gun itself has no recoil, as no gunpowder is being ignited to launch a projectile out the device at high speeds. This means a user can easily line up and make shots on the fly without needing to worry about their weapon sights moving.
With all these features, it can be hard to find a real drawback to this gun, but drawbacks there are. The first of which is its fire rate. All GXI used by Enforcers are only able to fire three shots, lethal or non-lethal, before the cells within the rifle must recharge, a process which can take upwards of a minute to complete. The second major drawback to the gun is what its made of. Like AEGIS armor, and as mentioned previously, GXI are reliant on traditional electronic systems-being reverse engineered from human tech-meaning that the gun can be rendered useless by a simple EMP.

It was because of this unique method of ruling that the empire was able to stand united for so long as its inhabitants gradually ventured further from the home world and out into the surrounding star system where they would encounter the race that would bring them to their knees. The genestealers. These genetically enhanced humans surged through their system, harvesting any Aelon they came across and destroying the rest. Though they tried to fight back, the Aelon military was quickly pushed back to Iuris where they fought a slow war of attrition, with the large numbers of genestealers gradually wearing away their defenses. So, seeing no other option, the Thav'ud family ordered the construction of a Cognizance Bomb. A lethal device capable of storing and releasing massive amounts of psionic energy in one devastating blast. Holding out long enough to keep at least some people alive in underground bunkers, the Aelon military activated the bomb shortly after lowering the defenses around Aressa and luring as many genestealers as they could into the capital. Safe from the ravaging psionic waves above, those in the bunkers did their best to live normally as they waited for the fallout to pass.
Emerging several decades later, the remaining Aelon found themselves setting foot onto a world that had been cleansed of their presence. Their buildings, art, installations... all of it was gone. But so were the genestealers. So, doing the best they could with the resources they had on hand, the survivors managed to make a life for themselves though one that was much more primitive than the one they had before. It wasn't till another batch of humans came along years later that they truly began to develop, though relations were tense at first due to everything they'd gone through with the genestealers. The two species managed to make an unsteady peace with one another, though the appearance of yet another branch of humanity prompted several Aelon to band together and create what would later become the Adjudicators, for they reasoned that if one part of humanity could be so destructive, why couldn't the rest be as well? Better to serve as the balance to keep them and the races native to the Eden cluster in check lest their chaotic, warlike natures got the better of them and they set every system alight with the fires of conflict.
So they did. Toiling for years, all while dutifully reverse engineering the technology that the more recent-and much less murderous-human arrivals had given them, the Aelon eventually became the major fixture in inter-system affairs most now know them to be.
Characters Arbiter Zin Evetis - A rather amicable fellow despite his occupations strict adherence to impartiality and objectivistic interaction, Zin Evatis is a relatively new addition to the Arbiters ranks. Despite this newness, however, he has proven himself adept at dealing with the other races and humanity in general, which helps make his somewhat unprofessional demeanor more tolerable in the eyes of his peers.

In regards to clothing Aelon generally wear attire that is wholly organic in appearance. Even their ships and buildings look the same way despite the fact none of them are actually alive, sapient, or sentient.
Primary Ranks A note on ranks, they work on a three strike system. Should a member get three strikes against them, they will be expelled. If they get a strike, but have some left, they are simply ranked downwards back to what they were before for further training. Does not apply to the Arbiters. As stated previously, should a member willfully break the oath, they will face summary execution.
Neophyte - A newly initiated Adjudicator, these are often the weakest members of the order in terms of both psionics and skill. As such, they are not allowed to leave Iuris until reaching the rank of Adept.

They are the ones most often seen on other planets handling various cases brought to them by clients all while clad in the traditional garb worn by the ancient magistrates of Iuris, which consists of a floor-length hooded charcoal robe with gold embroidery, purple highlights, and their orders symbol emblazoned in red on its back, which is itself worn over a bodysuit. There is also a sub rank of sorts to this, that being Senior Adjudicator, though it is reserved for those members who have served for a period of five years or more. Aelon who have achieved this rank are also the ones typically called upon to train new adepts.
Arbiter - The highest rank within the Adjudicators, Arbiters are those Senior Adjudicators who have retired from active service and been elected by their superiors to fill an empty seat, or seats, in the council left behind by members who are no longer able to serve in one capacity or another. The selection and initiation process takes into account the seniors past performance in addition to their current mental and emotional state to ensure the most optimal choice is made.
Secondary Ranks
Enforcers - Another position more physically inclined adepts can specialize in, Enforcers act as the elite defense force of the organization. Although they spend most of their time honing their telekinetic combat skills on Iuris, Enforcers are sent out on occasion to hunt down rogue clients who have decided to run rather than appear when summoned, rescue Adjudicators who've been captured by hostile forces, or-even more rarely-track and capture those members of the organization that have gone rogue themselves and broken the oath.
The only drawback to this rank, however, is the complete lack of psionic deftness its members have, as their training is geared towards offensive and defensive uses of psionic power more than anything else, meaning most successful applicants often find themselves at a loss when it comes to delicately examining the thoughts of another. It should be noted, however, that Enforcers do retain the ability to communicate telepathically, albeit at much shorter ranges than the average Aelon, hence the reason many if not all Enforcers travel in closely grouped squads while out on missions for optimum efficiency.

@ZAVAZggg Hmm, might be a bit iffy on the idea. What more can you share?
Basically a small organization composed of weak to strong psionics, the strongest of which pry at the minds of certain defendants and accusers to get the truth of what happened, with maybe next to no military presence or a very, very small one. Like self defense levels of small. Also, they will have an oath that forbids all of their members from using psionics outside of cases unless deemed absolutely necessary. Not sure how this would go, but I was thinking of instituting a sort of kill switch into the oath that can take down those who abuse or otherwise misuse their powers.
Other than that they'd really be there to keep empire's from taking drastic actions against one another and to run normal court case's as well. So peacekeepers basically.
@Sigma How would you feel about an organization of psionic judges who keep the peace between various empire's by providing unbiased intercession when needed?
Alright. Well time to start looking into power cores. Or making non haxxy unobtanium fuel sources.
EDIT: I have this whole idea involving Dark Matter storing crystals and using it in a field form for travel, but it strays into FTL territory quite heavily.

EDIT: Also, power sources. Are xenos, being less advanced when humans arrived, capable of using energy, dark energy, dark matter, etc, to power their craft now? Or are they still limited to chemical engine's that run off of liquid fuel mixes and such?
