I think one thing to be sure though is that without hippies the books may not really find prominence in the way it did before. I can foresee something like it maybe becoming popular among the anti-reparations crowd in the UK where Sauron becomes a metaphor of a racist British government to these folk.
I got Drew Carey.

Hey @Morden Man, Vilage and I were talking about shit and the topic of Lord of the Rings came up and for fun I was wondering if the series would exist in this alternate Britain, given the book was Tolkein's way of reconciling his experiences in the Great War with fantasy and stuff.

I imagine it'd probably be a lot different or there's a chance it doesn't exist if Tolkein died in the war. But figured I'd pose the question since it was on the mind.
And while for Vilage to finish editing and other things:

Have some China pilot.

Ok, fun fact about me: Through a series of peculiar circumstances, I really didn't get any schooling between 5th grade and college. We moved to the boonies, my parents decided to homeschool, and my mother had something of a mental breakdown, so I was basically self educated during that time. And basically that just meant that I played video games, and went to the library from time to time.

At sixteen, I got a GED and went to Community College. And honestly, aside from having to take a remedial math course my first semester, it wasn't difficult to transition at all. That was the thing that blew my mind: I just stumbled forward, thinking that I might have trouble but just sort of hoping that I wouldn't, but I picked right up as if I had been in school all along. I ended up transferring to a University and graduated with a 3.8 GPA.

The problem I did have was that I picked a stupid major. My family didn't have any Bachelor's degree graduates until myself, my father was convinced that any technical degree involving computers would be useless because of a bubble he perceived to be happening in that market, and I made the mistake of trusting college supervisors. So yeh, I was in a position to fuck that choice up, and I did.

So anyway, all of that is to say that, at least in my case, you have an incomplete elementary school education competing with a high school education and matching it. What that says about the value of our High Schools is up for debate.

Well it's less that they didn't try but in the grand scheme of things they assume I could get things straightened out, which maybe I do but I feel that at least lately I might not have refined my choice enough into my career of choice. This comes up now that I have to soon redeclare my major since my old one died without any real warning so it's not time to make an actual life-determining choice again. And that to help me I'll be getting back with people who like in Highschool would offer no anchoring words of wisdom but will tell me to do whatever, but will do so to just get me to throw another couple grand at them as opposed to being afraid if they burst my bubble they'll get angry parents scolding them for murdering someone's perfect child's self esteem.

But I think I've also had that chance of failure in life at the back of my mind with contigency plans in place if what I picked went FUBAR.
I hate how I feel the public school system failed me in life and just pushed me out the door with a half-hearted cocky grin and a flat smile on their faces because they couldn't truly invest enough in fulfilling their promises of getting anyone ready for college.

If anything, I learned that I didn't really like the Great Gatsby and I shouldn't have taken ceramics twice.
I have a post finished and I'm actually sending this to Vilage for editing since I consider this important and I want someone to read over it to make sure it's not shit.
It's like I don't need to be here in the end.

Oh well.
