UNSC Unbroken Hope

1910 Hours, April 30th 2550 (Military Calendar) /
Unknown system, Unknown sector.

-------------------------------
Aboard the Unbroken Hope
-------------------------------

The return of Team Omicron, Issac and Sentinel 1-1 were met with a standing applause at the Hangar bay by crew-members and Marines alike. With Issac brought back to the main podium at the Bridge, all was well as the crew welcomed and got re-adjusted with their missing friends. Shortly after the mass arrival, operations resumed as nominal as Engineering began coordination to further look into the schematics with the arrays and connections to the main power grid. The only events to note was a jump to another system, and more alarmingly, the construction of a Super-Weapon known as the Death Star. Down in Debrief sat the five members of Omicron, Marcus Oliver, Leon Dare, Elizabeth Carver, Jackson Briggs and Amir Abadi. Sitting in a council-like room formation of chairs encircling a holotable, Issac's position was next to the Captain; the blue-white hologram gesturing to the skeletal-looking sphere on the screen. With an info-panel displayed next to the mysterious Dyson-Sphere looking object, it was obvious that the information about the 'Death Star' was wholly incomplete; sections of categories were largely unfilled- with most of the reported data coming from other members of the task-force. Had this been an Epoch-class, an onboard Science Team would have had a field day with the information given to them. Alas, it was not like this- and the crew of the Unbroken Hope had to make do with anything they could at this point.

Many hours later following their return to the Hope, every single HIGHCOM personnel was called to the bridge. Centered around the briefing area's main holotable were all five officers plus Omicron alongside the wall of the door entrance, with Kendra stepped up to the table. With Issac standing at the podium's emitter built into the rightmost side of the table closest to Marcus, the rest of the space was occupied by what appeared to be a large, white spherical-shaped planet that appeared to be under construction. Even as everyone filed into the room, their gaze was momentarily interrupted with a salute toward the Captain, then instantly redirected toward the massive sphere projected just above the surface of the table. The projected information chart next to it displayed limited information; some fields missing their contents due to the unknown nature of what exactly the massive weapon was capable of- at least to them. Once everyone filed in, Marcus gave a wordless nod toward Issac, who cleared his throat and spoke aloud. "As... most of you are aware by now, this is one of Anubis's main playing field devices. This... 'Death-Star' is a planet-sized station reportedly capable of destruction on a systemic scale. How powerful, we can only speculate- but..." Issac trailed off as the main spherical body of the massive structure faded into the background; leaving the dish-like part of the station lit up as he continued speaking after his pause. "...This is apparently the primary weapon system of the station. Mainly because, you know, planets don't have giant internal-looking antennas built into them." Issac brought the object back into its default view on the table as he clasped his hands together with a sigh. "Obviously speaking this thing is going to serve as a hot-spot for hostile activity. Fighter craft, destroyers, carriers and cruisers look like it wouln't be impossible to have them deployed from the station itself. As it stands, this is a worrisome development. Especially if the Anubis guy gets ahold of the station, which I assume he most likely already has in some capacity. For now, we'll just be throwing theories based on our own individual ship's capabilities in dealing with threats like these- I'm sure there'll be another summit with the group's leaders, but for now, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the issue. Captain?"

Marcus nodded toward Issac as he scanned the individuals in the room briefly; his haggard appearance seeming to accentuate the stress of his position catching up on him. Glancing back toward the hologram of the Death Star, he sighed. "We got unusually lucky with Sentinel's C-SAR deployment to the Jedi Temple, and later to Alderaan. Combat data has shown that our conventional ballistics can easily penetrate the armor of the combatants found in the Temple, but as it stands, we've never as of yet engaged in space combat with this 'Empire.' Keeping the station out of weapon's range is easy, but as for the fleet no doubt guarding one of their most prized stations, it'd be a nightmare. Excluding ship weapon systems for the time being, Amir- what's our fighter inventory like?" Marcus and the of the personnel in the room went silent, focusing their attention on the leader of the Hope's 22nd Air Wing. The man looked to be in his forties; with heavy Middle Eastern features overlaying a head of black hair and intimidating hazel eyes. Clearing his throat, he spoke up in a thick Arabic-English accent. "Captain, as it stands, we have twenty-four Longsword fighters; split into three squadrons with six craft per each." Amir gestured to the table with an expectant look from the Captain, to which he nodded as Issac sensed what Amir was after. The hologram of the Death Star was minimized and shuffled off to the side as a new panel opened up; pulling three nearly-identical Longsword variants up and into view side-by-side as a spec sheet lined the bottom. As the man spoke, additional information appeared above the their respective tables. "We have two specialized variants suited primarily for space engagements, and one for exoatmospheric CAP and CAS capabilities. The C709 is our front-line exo-atmospheric strike fighter, as you know. The C708 are atmospheric bombers- ideal for surgical strikes against enemy ground forces, armor, buildings- you name it. The C712 is capable of both dogfighting in space and providing ground support- but that really depends on what's happening on the battlefront. All of my fighters are equipped with the maximum capacity of their respective payload configurations- including Shiva nuclear warheads- for the bombers."

These was a subtle pause for the crew to digest the information, nodding as Amir concluded. To the surprise of nearly everyone, the haggered, 50-something cigar smoking irritated veteran that was Colonel Briggs piped up next- much to a notable disgruntled huff of Amir. "So- we just sit on the ship while you pansy-ass Flyboys steal our thunder? Give me a goddamn break." Amir sighed with an eye roll, glancing to and failing to receive support from the CSM standing beside the Colonel, who gave a lightly amused chuckle at the rapidly flustering flight leader. "With respect to you, Colonel Briggs, this isn't exactly an op for a boarding raid. Sentinel 1-1 happened to have access to a friendly ship that was able to get them aboard an enemy vessel- we don't have that technology and you'd be far better off sitting this engagement out unless told otherwise, Sir." Briggs bit down in his cigar as the embers flared at the burned end as he gave a silent venomous glare toward Amir, before nodding with a grumble and refusing to speak up any further. Marcus sighed, and spoke up to address the brooding Colonel, "If you're looking to do something about it, I'd advise you and the Sergeant Major refresh your men on EVA and accompanying boarding procedures in the event we actually need them on a hostile ship. This isn't our world anymore, and we can't afford such risk as it is. Our only option as it stands is to prepare and analyze situations as they appear, then strike where it's needed. This 'Death Star' remains a primary target to neutralize in the long run, but I'm more concerned about the primary fleet ships the Empire has in their possession, and what exactly Anubis is going to bring to the table. As soon as I have any significant updates on our situation, I'll call you all here again. Dismissed for now." The abrupt conclusion to the briefing had everyone slowly file out of the room, and as the footsteps faded into the hallway, Oliver sighed as the holotable cleared- glancing to the AI. "Issac, put in a call to the Tantive-IV. Get as much information on the Empire's fleet capabilities as you can; I want a full report by tomorrow morning. Understood?"

Issac turned toward the Captain, clicking his heels together with a grin as he snapped into a salute. "Aye, Sir." Vanishing into the podium, Marcus turned back toward the bridge view and strode toward his chair, taking a seat and rubbing the bridge of his nose, eyes squinted. Even as the operation was mostly a success, he couldn't help but feel as if this Empire and Anubis had no doubt caught word of their presence, and would make a series of guerilla tactics all the more difficult to accomplished. Begrugingly, the breif reprieve he had was soon interuppted by Issac's voice. "You've been summoned for another delegation meeting- aboard the Ageis. Should I prep a shuttle?" Marcus winced, then nodded as he arose from his chair. "I'll be down in the bay. Get it ready." The man said with a sigh as he turned toward the bridge, exited it, and took the elevator straight to the hangar bay. He was going to do this alone.

With the Pelican's arrival into the bay of the massive CCS-Class Battlecruiser, Marcus wore a light scowl as he made his way to what could only be assumed to be the central meeting room. Relaxing his expression, he stepped into the room as the automatic alien door slid open after sounding off a quick two-toned signal. Wordlessly glancing to everyone present, he strode to his own position near the conglomerate, and waited until he was addressed as he listened intently to everyone else.

The battle was over before it even began, it seemed. Even with the confusion of being teleported onto a new starship, the unorganized calamity of the initial boarding action soon found itself smoothing out into an improvised dance with Death. The Sangheili quite literally threw himself in front of the hail of gunfire so that the Helijumpers could acquire better angles on the attacking opposition. As soon as they were able to push up and clear the bridge of the remaining hostiles, they did. Casualty assessments were performed- nobody got hit. One by one, their attention turned now toward the Elite overlooking the window to the planet down below. As silent as he was, the scene before him looked familiar, and it didn't take any cue for the ODSTs to know why. Looking at each other, Leon was the first to lead- striding up alongside the Elite to observe the planet under siege. This wasn't their planet, but the fires of Arcadia still burned in his memory. His squad aligned themselves by Leon's side and away from the alien- not out of fear, but out of respect. When the alien spoke, his tone was one Leon hadn't heard since the beginning of his career as a Marine. He'd very rarely heard Elites speak fluent English; the only time being was when he'd arrived to the scene of a Marine being interrogated before being killed. Of course, how foolish it'd be to generalize at a time like this. If what the Captain said was true, and that rumor of actually winning the war as as factual as everyone so far claimed to say, perhaps times have changed for all of them, regardless of where they came from.

Leon was right beside the Sangheili when he took off his helmet and tucked it under his right arm, his eyes transfixed on the devastation below. It was at this moment the ODST leader chose his words wisely, and he spoke up in a low, gravelly tone. "Despite circumstance... I'm appreciative we can make a difference here.

He'd seen the hulking mass, and gathered his team to rally near him. That gold-plated Sangheili only signified one thing, and it was the ranking it held meant it was more than capable of wiping all of them out if it so wanted to. However before Leon could protest, he found himself subjected to one of the worst experiences of his life. In a blinking flash, the setting changed instantly. Leon's vision blurred as he fought to steady himself- the effect comparable to the sudden deceleration of a ship from Slip Space. Staving off the wave of nausea, he shook his head as his visor depolarized to look around and assess his environment more clearly. All he saw was grey and white- it was as if the UNSC's regular ship design had barely taken on a slight boost in flair. Looking around, he saw his other team-members as his VISR highlighted them in an orange outline. They too were all staggering about, some clutching their abdomens as they slowly recovered from the acute effects caused by that teleportation beam. He barely registered the strange sounds of incoming weapons fire that sent his body into an adrenaline-fueled overdrive. With his visor polarizing, Leon screamed into his helmet's open comm channel. "Get to cover, MOVE!"

The lead ODST and his team fought off the disorientation as a surge of adrenaline took hold; causing everyone to stack up at the nearest wall leading down the hallway that the enemy engaged them at. "Team, status!"

"Green!"

"I'm good!"

"Good!"

"Up!"

"Fookin' scared but 'm up!"

As the burning weapons fire came down the corridor in a hail, it would only serve to be a matter of time before these fucks had to reload, right? Then again, they only managed to neutralize that wizard with a glowstick and his two armored cronies with electric Bo-staffs back in the temple- they had little idea of what these weapons could actually do. Leon glanced over to the red-outlined Sangheili, then back to his men. "Wait for a break in the fire to move; the area's too hot. Mark that Elite IFF as friendly; I don't want mistakes." The last thing he wanted to do was engage the enemy and become caught in a crossfire with the massive group assaulting the bridge all at once. "Weapons at the ready, safeties off." Only those within close proximity could hear him, as this was mostly directed to his team's internal communications. Readying his suppressed BR55, he toggled the fire selector to burst-fire and waited for a signal.

Marcus nodded, closing the viewscreen and shaking his head at the continual absurdity of it all. Yet the reveal of Anubis was able to make the hair on the back of his neck stand up. He'd never fought against a being claiming to be a literal God, save for the Prophets and their droll broadcasts across UNSC communications during the war. The alarm klaxon still sounded as he keyed the PA transmitter. "Attention all elements, we will be performing a shared jump alongside an allied vessel en-route to a planet called Alderaan. We are going to be evacuating as many refugees as we can carry from the planet. I want all transports prepped and fighters tasked for escort. Oliver out." Marcus turned to his crew as he released the transmitter, speaking up so that everyone could hear him. "Have Engineering begin spooling up the drive. Navigation, align with the Ageis's destination solution and align the ship parallel to the battlecruiser. Once we make that jump, I'll need all hands to TAC-CON Alpha One. Am I understood?"

"Aye aye, Sir!" A roar of acknowledgement briefly deafened the room's quiet nature as the crew responded to their Captain. With orders underway, one of the ventral hangar doors opened up to make way for Omicron's arrival with Issac. Perhaps, after this battle, he could potentially get his ODST team back as well.

"That's insane. Hopefully we don't encounter any more of those things." Leon said aloud. His team remained in the transport and arrived back to the Glasgow. After transit, Leon's team exited the shuttle and stood around their Pelican as the only source of home they knew while they recuperated. Prior to stowing their weapons inside the troop hold of the Pelican, Leon walked over to Liam and placed a hand on his shoulder. "You did good out there, for a pilot. Glad to have you with us." With a sigh, Liam chuckled and turned around. "Quit blowin' reek up mah crease, A'm a Marine first an' foremost." Leon struggled with the man's heavy brogue, but took it as Liam's response being capable to handle himself in combat. Perhaps he could ease off; he was a Marine once. Hell, everyone on his team was before they volunteered for the Helijumpers. "Still.. Cheers lad." Liam returned the pat, and soon rejoined Leon out to the front of the dropship where the rest of his team awaited. Unless they were called to the bridge, he was going to stay with his squad until otherwise reported to do so.

As the Spartan team strode over to the platform to retrieve Issac, the blue hologram gave a respectful nod to the Shipmaster. "You honor me with your words, Shipmaster. Thank you for your trust." Issac vanished into the podium as Kendra was the one to walk up and yank the chip out of the podium before inserting it into the back of her helmet. The Spartan stared up at the Sangheili and, as far as a gesture of respect was reciprocated by a Spartan-II went, she nodded at the Shipmaster. "Glad to help. Doctors." She addressed the two in parting as she and her team turned to leave the bridge and board the Pelican waiting in the hangar.

The ride back was quiet. Despite the initial encounter, it was clear that the interaction had left a notable impression on everyone present. Everything they'd gone left them internally screaming that they had failed as Spartans; that they were supposed to destroy any Covenant they saw- but they didn't have that choice. Not anymore. They served a different purpose now, but at least they had the honor of serving alongside someone they trusted. Marcus wouldn't have made the call otherwise.

The throaty voice of the ship-master rang out far too loud for his liking, but the hologram nonetheless responded in kind to the Sangheili Commander. "On it, Shipmaster!" It felt weird hearing those words leave his mouth, but the whole goddamn setting was weird in itself. Nonetheless, he got to work. Connecting to the subsystems of the Separatist ships, Issac soon found himself interfacing with the Droid Control Modules of each of the three ships. He'd leave most of the weapons control to the ships in operation; instead focusing on grouping each of the Droid Fighters into their own units. To an extent, he felt each of the droids as an extension of himself; their basic autonomous functions being overridden mid-flight as Issac remotely hijacked the entire compliment that the ships had at their disposal. These things obviously relied on quantity over quality, but there was no doubt that the weapons and maneuverability they possessed would ultimately come in handy in defeating the 'Imperial' ships.

A direct assault would be the most beneficial, but Issac would certainly lose the greatest number of fighters to the point defenses. However, the AI had a plan with his new droid army. Assessing the weaponry of each one, he made the decision to perform repeated slingshot-style attacks on the starfighters using the droid fighters, and the weapons and exposed subsystems of the Imperial ships. Vulture Droids would take the lead; skillfully weaving between weapons fire as they swarmed around the Imperial starfighters like moths to a light until the target was destroyed. Then, they'd pull back to the safety of the Ageis in order for their weapons and shields to recharge. During this time, the Hyena-class Bombers, Tri-fighters and HMG Gunships would close in rapidly to deploy their payloads en-masse; targeting the turbolasers point defenses and critical subsystems of any ship within viable targeting range, then turning tail and pulling back to the Ageis as the fighters returned to the battle to engage the recuperating Imperial starfighters once more.

As Leon and his men boarded the transports, he looked directly at Sheppard. "The hell was that thing? Some sort of Humanoid version of a Hunter?" Leon sighed, shaking his head. He was at least appreciative of his team's abilities to hold their own in a firefight not of their universe.

The Chief Engineer grinned, striding over and tapping away at the center console before the holographic image changed to a 3D projection of the Marathon-class ship. Tapping a few more panels, the entire lower and middle stern and aft sections let up a brilliant red to display where there grid was located and subsequently lead out from- essentially right in the very room they were standing in. "Right 'ere. However if these changes are internal to support the shields, I'll have to power down the engines as well as the drive and redirect power to critical subsystems. Don't want anyone gettin' fried or without life support obviously. We'll be sittin' ducks for awhile- hope that's no bother. An'- just so you're aware, this central room feeds right into the Drive. It's stationed a little lower down; there's a maintenance hatch that goes into that room should any changes need to be made."

Leon gave a grim smile. These fuckers fell easily to their conventional weaponry, like gunning down Innies. However, the large explosion diverted his attention momentarily to the troopers, and hearing the Sheppard scream out in retreat, he knew these soldiers were trouble. "All units, fall back to extract! MOVE!" Leon had his team began to ease up on cover fire to break cover and run to regroup with the lead elements as he himself side-armed his pistol in the direction of the four hostiles and continually laid down cover fire while running to meet up with the others. He couldn't believe what the lead was saying over the radio, having to take four nuclear warheads to kill these guys was insane. "You're kidding right? What the hell are those things?!"
