Without a second thought Christina patted her chest to find her breather mask, satisfied once she found it hanging by its clip on her side. The New York subways were cold places, and even though she'd lived here most of her life, even she shivered a little underneath the thick coat and combat rigging she wore.

Their mission was simple: gain access into New York City via the tunnels, and once done, assess the situation of the city. Theirs was a covert insertion; the military by itself was already up to their necks in the shitstorm that had followed the outbreaks of the infection throughout the Big Apple. That was why the Division had been formed. They only took who they needed to undergo these extremely high-danger missions, where others wouldn't for fear of death or infection, which was also death. She knew how close and personal the virus could get, that was the reason she wore the rigging, the suit and the watch and computer. Hopefully, somehow, she'd make sure her friends wouldn't have gone in vain. The mission they were on was paramount to the success of the New York Quarantine in general: once they had assessed the situation of the pandemic within the city, they were to go on and help the local law enforcement and military that were still trapped within the quarantine zone to maintain some semblance of order, while investigating the outbreak in general; perhaps to find the source, or a cure. Whatever the case, they operated alone. This ragtag team of soldiers was her new crew now, and she had to fit in as best as she could.

New York City was under quarantine, had been for the past five days now. What relative order within was quickly being lost when the general public had realised the military was putting up fences and walls and mounted gun posts and not allowing anyone to leave. The riots right after that horrific realisation had been intense; several had died, some soldiers, most civilians, caught in the bloody struggle between freedom and safety; civs wanted out to get away from the horrible stuff within the city, military wanted to keep the public in for fear of spreading the infection outward. Today there had been no clashes. Yet. Christina didn't keep her hopes up on the good New Yorkers to keep the peace.

She sighed under her scarf. Five long, bloody days and only today were they finally deployed to actually do something. Christina had spent the past few days sitting on her ass in the rudimentary FOB outside of NYC, fiddling with her new gear but doing almost nothing of worth. No orders had been given from the mysterious men at the top of the Division, but she knew that once those orders came down she'd be put right in the thick of it. And here she was, in the thick of it. Catching sight of Javier checking his map, she did the same. The holographic display blossomed in a sheen of orange and white from her wristwatch, displaying the same things he saw; the platform several hundred feet ahead of them, the escalators and stairs up, and a little of the streets and buildings around the subway entrance. That's where they were headed then. She shut down the map and gave her sector a scan with her eyes. Being the rear scout, she was in the prime area to help any of her comrades should they get injured, and at the same time she had several soldiers worth of muscle and bullets between her and whatever dangers lay ahead. The grim thought wasn't much, but it was her position as the medic after all. During a firefight, anyone that went down was her priority, but during a patrol or travel like this, the back of the group was her focus.

Christina swept her vision round to behind them. The flare Javier had laid moments earlier was still burning strong, illuminating the train car and the makeshift camp next to it in a halo of red. No one there. Someone must've used this as home until they'd escaped...or died. She couldn't tell which. Her scarf made smelling the area mighty difficult, but she didn't keep her mind on it. No telling what laid in the darkness.

Nothing else to do but follow orders and proceed with the mission, she thought to herself. She kept at the team's rear, rifle loaded and ready to deal with anything that came their way.
Appearance

Name
Christina Ibanez

Age
33

Gender
Female

Call Sign
Roughneck (though people call her Roughie for short)

Personnel Description
Christina regularly doles out what she calls 'tough love' mainly because it's what she does. Fiercely protective of her teammates, comrades and friends, Roughie regularly does stuff others would consider uncouth for a lady of her occupation; butting into rooms to check on people unannounced, doing random, unscheduled checkups on her teammates that sorta thing. She's gruff, tough, cynical and sarcastic, but that doesn't mean she hides her heart of gold; she genuinely cares about her teammates, so much so that she'd go to any length to protect them. Amongst her friends and peers she is not the rough-and-tumble soldier she normally is in a battle, rather, she's a sweet, charming and friendly young woman who loves to have fun and talk shop. Her favorite things to do if not on duty are to enjoy ice cream and go out with her friends.

In battle, she is a headstrong medic, oft times taking charge of situations if there isn't anyone to do so. Her attitude also leads to recklessness however, and combined with her protective nature it makes her quite a dangerous soldier to be around, as she will often charge straight through fire to try and save you without questioning her own safety, which often leads to her also suffering an injury or two in the process.

Backstory
Being a combat medic is never fun; it's one of the toughest responsibilities in being in the military, yet someone has to do it, right? Ever since Christina enlisted into the army, that's what she thought to herself, and still does to this very day, long after most of her unit perished during the initial waves of infection and death. She never even knew how they'd been infected, one day she'd received a notice on her phone, a list, stating the names and tag numbers of every soldier in her company that had died due to the infection. The battalion wasn't going to hold a funeral; there were too many dead. Instead, a remembrance service was to be held across the country, in San Francisco, where she'd been born, coincidentally. By then, New York was in lockdown, so she was unable to attend, much to her disappointment.

Born to a wholly Spanish family in San Fran, Christina made the decision to move to New York early on in life, after she graduated from high school. In the Big Apple, she enrolled herself in medical school and emerged three years later as a registered nurse, but the slow, often monotonous life bored her. So she did what came to her naturally and did the next best thing: she enlisted. She spent the requisite ten weeks in BCT at Fort Jackson in Georgia, following which she was sent to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas to undergo the four month EMT course that came after. Once done with that, she was attached to the 69th Infantry Regiment in New York City, where she spent the rest of her military days up to the outbreak. She even participated in Operation Enduring Freedom in 2008, a harrowing experience that tested her abilities straight to the max. She never did treat any of the four casualties of her regiment during the mission, but news filtered down the grapevine about them, and even she knew how stressing it was to be a medical soldier out in a real battlefield.

After the outbreak, the 69th did what they could to suppress the riots within their home city of the Big Apple, but soon their efforts were quashed more and more as their soldiers fell to rioters and the infection that spread like wildfire through the city. She watched friends of hers die on beds in overcrowded hospitals, and swore that day not to let any more of her comrades die in vain. Her unwavering dedication to the protection of her fellow women and men led The Division to her; they needed a medic as loyal and dedicated as she was, and thus she was introduced into the squad.

  • 4 x 9mm magazines for her P226.

Weapons
Primary
Her main weapon is the FN SCAR-H Mk 17 LB battle rifle. Chambered in powerful 7.62mm rounds, this high powered rifle best suits Christina in fights where she needs to get somewhere fast.

Secondary
Her sidearm is the SIG Sauer P226 9mm pistol. One of the most common pistols in the world, it's standard issue to police in most parts of the US.

Melee
Her melee weapon is the rather simple Ka-bar boot knife. It's sharp and pointy and is designed to be poked into aggressors.

Talents
  • First Aid - Her nursing background, combined with the four months she spent in Fort Sam Houston as part of her EMT training, has imbued her with all the medical knowledge and know-how she needs to handle herself in any situation that requires medical attention.
  • Basic Pharmacology - While not as experienced as your average doctor or dispensary aide, Christina is knowledgeable enough on the spectrum of common drugs available to nurses, and some of the less common ones too.
  • Basic Surgery - With her nursing background comes experience in handling surgical equipment, not as good as a proper trained surgeon, but give her a blade to cut open a wound to remove a bullet while under fire, and she will do it without hesitating. Such is the extent of her abilities.
  • Veteran CQC - Christina took to unarmed combat like a fish to water, and this combined with her extensive knowledge of the human body gave her a few feet up against her peers in the combat course, for she knows exactly where and how to strike a person to make them go down instantly, or to knock them out like a light, or any other condition she wants them in.
@Nemaisare I think the loud things are prohibited from being tested cause, y'know, it's in a city. XD

He buys used guns, sure. He also repairs them. He doesn't sell ammo either.
I'm still here D:
@Dark Jack I'LL KILL YOU

Poor Turncloak T-T
@NightmareInd The setting is for my colleague to decide, cause I kinda broached the subject after he'd gone offline. XD

And with the new girl...yeah that does look like a not so great combat ability. However that does not mean she cannot enter the tournament in a support role, like a healer for after the battles.
Aw hell.

We were surrounded, almost, by the beasts. The things had come quick as a flash, advancing as quick as the darkness had eaten up the lands before us. I didn't even have time to react before the wave of encroaching misery had enveloped us, and that had apparently made the Turncloak grow a huge iron pair. He hefted his huge halberd, took out his shield and did this whole "you shall not pass" dealio. Bit crazy, but I had heard the things out there in the shadows, hell I'd SEEN them; and crazy or not, there was no surviving whatever nightmares that were coming towards us. I risked a quick look behind me and saw the rest of our merry gang hightailing it for the forest. I couldn't blame them for being cowards, I'd have done the same thing myself, but there was something about the situation now that...demanded that I stay. But I wanted to live. Thus was my predicament in the few seconds I had between running for my life and staying to die. The Knight was strong, this I knew, but...he just didn't seem like the type to sacrifice his life for people he'd just met. He had a reason. That crown he mentioned must be it; it must've been important to him at some point or another, and though we were to get it I couldn't help but want him to come with us instead of dying senselessly.

So while my body started to backpedal of its own accord, I shouted to him.

"Hey! Knight fella! Why don't you come with us?! If you want to get that crown so badly, come with us! You don't need to die again!"

No response. That idiot was intent on suicide by nightmare.

...

Fuck it.

I drew my dagger and turned it on myself, or more accurately my glove. With a flick of the blade I separated a single bell from the hem. I heard it jingle as it fell to the floor while I sheathed my knife, and found it quickly while light still glinted off its tarnished surface. I fought the urge to run and instead directed my legs to head towards the knight. With a string pulled from a seam in my pants I tied the bell to his halberd's grip and gave him a good, hard look from beneath my mask.

"Ah fuck it you wanna fight these assholes be my guest but you better come back, alright? I gave you that bell for a reason! Don't make me come back for you, alright wise guy? Don't make me!"

With that I turned tail and ran right after the Lady, the Assassin, and our newfound companion. If he wanted this to be his fight, he could have it.

I just couldn't bear to see a good man go out like that.

I'd felt that pain before, in some forgotten recess of my memory. I didn't know from where, but I knew that feeling all too well.

Good luck, Knight. Stay strong, stay safe.
Okay, one random suggestion for all accepted players (yes even you Saarebas): To add a little more immersion into your characters, I request that a new section be added to your sheet, and that section is the Theme Song (or theme songs)!

Simply put, go find YouTube videos of your character's favourite tunes and link them in that little section to add to your sheet! Honestly it's a fun little exercise in creativity and it helps everyone share what sorta music they like! ^^
@Nemaisare Go ahead! Would give me something more to write too! XD
@Rare We still doing this, Rare?
