I get it, and normally that would be the case when dealing with a long bodied opponent. Unlike a lizard, though, Slimy has enough raw strength and balance to stand up without needing its arms for support (though it prefers dragging itself around, since that's scarier). It can stand like how a cobra, or Medusa, stands.
It makes up for its lack of legs to gain purchase with by being a really sticky fucker too.
And I won't argue about the electro vision, I had a feeling it would be able to see right through the goo. Doesn't that mean it can't see other physical obstacles though?
Who says it's the back that it's hanging over? I believe it would be mostly crouching over the front of the mech, looming over the optics since it not only slithered that way to escape the grab, but also was partially pulled by the mech itself. It's in a different position than when it used the rock. There's also a difference between laying down and sitting. When it is laying down, its main body is eight feet. When it sits, it doesn't take up too much more than half that, as long as it keeps its tail out of the way. If it were fully laying down on the mech's head, it wouldn't have the height needed to swing down its heaviest blows on the optics.
Also, two more things. In your post you said that it "flung itself back" to escape Higan's sight, however it never moved away from where it had been pulled. Also, its slime should too up what few spots of vision Higan has left.
I was picturing it having been already most of the way over the mech's top by the time it extracted its head, having raised itself up beforehand to keep from being draped over the mech's back and to attack the lens (hence the line about it having lifted its tail above Higan's back). It's possible for the middle of the tail to get trapped, if Higan leans back some more.
Like this, but with the tail fully out of the way and the ass hitting the wall (it has no pelvis, so its ass has ribs like a snake).
There's a difference between a skilled player and an overpowered character. But yeah, I understand. See ya later!
@rechonq The rate of growth is what makes it strong. It's strategy is to hide and accumulate drones which share its consciousness, effectively making each brood an extension of its strategic fighting power. One may be weak. Ten may be weak, even a hundred or a thousand. But millions or billions or even trillions, interlocked in a titanic mass of hypnotic, cancer blasting autocannibalism... Yeah. Regardless, my play style is too aggressive and annoying to the GM, so I'll leave you guys to it.
Can The Magna Pater take part in this? If so, here's the racial and character profiles.
Name of Civilization: Primeval Vampires Leadership Style: Monarchy
Powers of race:
The Magna Pater, the alpha of its species, is the only living member of its race. It never allows its young to live unless driven to desperation by an immense threat to its existence, for it is a selfish thing that dislikes sharing its hunting grounds. It is able to impose its will upon its brood of lesser vampires via shared split-consciousness. By forcefully breeding with another organism, it can produce in one month a litter of four juveniles. The juveniles mature after a single month and become fully capable of killing and breeding, weighing at that time around 100 kilos each. The brood will never grow to more than 200 kilos. Each one can have a litter of four young, and can breed with as many victims as are available. Any sort of living organism that weighs at least seventy pounds, male or female, can be impregnated. At such a rate the number of mature brood would grow exponentially as follows, assuming the lowest estimate of each one breeding a single time per month.
Month One- The Magna Pater breeds and the young emerge.
Month Two- Five mature brood counting the Magna Pater.
Month Four- Twenty brood.
Month Six- Eighty Brood.
Month Eight- 320 brood.
Month Ten- 1,280 brood.
Year One- 5,120 brood.
Year Two- 26,214,400 brood.
Year Three- Planetary Extinction.
Unique traits: Each vampire wields the same power as the Magna Pater, minus the physical size and the ability to control others. God or Goddess: The Magna Pater Location: The caverns beneath Toiyabe National Forest.
Name: The Magna Pater
Aliases: Salmu Pulhu (Sumerian), Shasheuss-Throth (De Vermis Mysteriis), The Sleeper of the Clandestine
Gender: Male
Species: Elder Horror, Primeval Vampire
Sphere of Control: Paranoia, Sadism, Hunger, Pestilence.
Sacred Animal: Itself.
Lifespan: As long as it can continue drinking blood. It doesn't age when it sleeps for years in-between large meals.
Age: 1,907
Appearance: A piebald monstrosity with slime slicked flesh and no hind legs. Its only limbs are two long, winged arms and a powerful tail. It has four claws on each forepaw, with the middle one being eight inches long and capable of slicing through muscle like tissue paper. The beast's head is mostly a jagged maw with oily, unseeing eyes on top. It has a sharp, hollow tongue which can extend three feet from its mouth and act as a siphon to suck in blood. From snout to tail base, it is over eight feet long. The tail is fourteen feet. It weighs in at about two-hundred and ninety-five kilos, as much as a siberian tiger.
Abilities
~Limited flight. Due to its wingspan and body weight, it can only fly for a maximum distance of ninety meters and remain aloft for little more than a half minute.
~Ectothermic: It's body temperature adjusts to match its surroundings. It can withstand the hottest or coldest environments.
~Tremendous strength and speed, the likes of which dominate the animal kingdom.
~Keen hearing and sonar. It's echolocation has a maximum distance of 6,700 meters and can detect objects moving at half the speed of sound. Its hearing is so good it can locate a victim even through miles of dense forest and with its back turned. Anything faster than its echolocation it can sense almost instantly via air pressure gradient.
~Heat pits: Can detect the heat of organisms.
~Tongue: Can draw in blood through a wound like a vaccuum. It can also squirt or spray blood and bile. The bile is not highly acidic.
~Natural weapons: Its teeth and claws are composed of a complex chitin and protein polymer, harder and sharper than a Humboldt squid's beak, which can pierce modern body armor. The Magna Pater's bite force is superior to what a Nile crocodile can exert.
~Can squeeze into any opening that it can fit its head through.
~Capable of entering a state of metabolic stasis which can last for decades. It retains spatial awareness during this "hibernation" and can awaken at will.
~Sense of smell: It can track down others thousands of kilometers away just by smelling them on the clothing of its prey.
~Intelligence: Is far more clever that it looks. Can grasp (but not speak) all languages, and never makes the same mistake twice.
~Can quickly regenerate from wounds by consuming blood and flesh. The amount of mass healed is proportionate to how much is consumed, I.E one pound of food to replace one pound of damaged tissue.
~The membrane of its wings is tougher than Kevlar, and can easily stop bullets of the highest caliber.
~Its body mucous and saliva contains anticoagulant, cytotoxic, and bufotoxic properties. Those whom it bites or claws will suffer gradual necrosis, unstoppable bleeding, and fast-acting, nightmarish hallucinations. The speed at which the bufotoxins take effect depends on how close the wound is to the head, ranging from several minutes to several seconds. It is immune to its own toxins. The viscosity of the mucous can be regulated, allowing the Magna Pater to be extremely slippery or adhesive. The mucous functions also to mask its scent. It can convert and excrete up to twenty percent of its body weight in mucous. It becomes significantly faster when empty, and can regain the weight by eating.
~Malocchio:
It may use its "true eyes" by shutting down its other senses. Before it uses the Malocchio, the intended victim(s) will have a brief premonition of the danger to come. Those who see the true eyes will, each time they go to sleep, enter a trance and begin moving in the direction of the Magna Pater, wherever it may be. They will awaken at the time they normally would, such as a few minutes for a nap and several hours for deep sleep. It also allows the Magna Later to see through the eyes of its prey at any and all times, even at the same time if there are multiple victims. By using the Malocchio on one who is already cursed, the victim's sight will be replaced with that of the Magna Pater's until it deactivates its eyes.
It is a passive curse that has no immediate negative effects unless the victim is entirely under the influence of the Magna Pater's hallucinogens, in which case the victim will immediately lose their mind from fright. If the bufotoxins haven't taken full effect then the victim will feel an intense fear which escalates in accordance to the strength of the already terrifying hallucinations.
Looking into its "true eyes" for too long can result in the victim's body becoming riddled with cancer at a later period in time, I.E developing prostate and skin cancer two years after the encounter. It takes roughly seven seconds of eye-to-eye contact (does not have to be constant) before the dormant cancer cells begin taking root. The Magna Pater can only keep the Malocchio active for at most sixteen seconds, and cannot use it again until the same amount of time has passed. As an example, if it only uses it for ten seconds and then deactivates, then it must rest its eyes for ten seconds.
~Those that are consumed by the Magna Pater whilst cursed by the Malocchio have their consciousness eternally bound to their physical state of matter. They gain a horrific form of immortality, doomed to live on forever in boundless agony as inert particles bequeathed unto the earth, lost to time and memory beneath the weight of the ages.
(A lesser, juvenile vampire)
Behavior (Personality): The Magna Pater is what one would first think of when the word "monster" comes to you in the dead of night. It may be called if one completes a forbidden ritual detailed within the ancient tome of black magic known as De Vermis Mysteriis, but nary a being would consider doing such an obscene thing. It makes no noise, has no mercy, cannot be reasoned with, and lives only to drain the blood and devour the flesh of all living things it can bind within its greasy wings. It enjoys all manner of prey and is especially inclined to go out of its way to find children, but it is shy and despises the light. It prefers to remain in damp pitch-blackness, where no eyes can spy it and no light can fall upon it. When outside of its primary lair it lurks around graveyards, occasionally squirming through the wormy soil to feast upon the dead and decaying when no live meat is available. It will frequently impregnate victims with its brood, keeping them alive until its malformed young are birthed. It will eat both the victim and the young, doing these things not for food but to purposefully inflict prolonged torment.
The few who come into contact with it and live may never be the same as they had been before, for above all else it is a creature of persistence. Even if one leaves the Magna Pater, it will never leave them. A variety of lifelong physical complications and psychological ailments can stem from a meeting with it and it never stops pursuing its prey, even if they move far away. It will also track down any living thing that leaves its scent on a victim. This leads to the it consuming the families of those it hunts, along with anyone those families had come into recent physical contact with. Though one may travel often and abroad, once the Magna Pater has chosen a victim their fate is inevitable. It could take days, weeks, months, even years, but eventually on some cold and moonless evening one will awaken to see a sticky face with dead eyes peering through their bedroom window.
History: Once in a millennium is a creature born, a living horror known as the "Magna Pater". The progenitor of monsters, the true genesis, the harbinger of loss, ancient and terrible. Only one has ever lived at a time, for it is greedy and does not abide its own kind, but always has one lived. It is the alpha of its virtually nonexistant subspecies, devouring its own normal young at birth. Only when the lone alpha dies is a new one conceived. It travels far and with little preference, drawn to whatever realm has foolishly called it via black magic. It has seen and ended countless civilisations. In Sumeria it was worshipped as a cruel deity to which countless sacrifices were made. In this lifetime does a special one exist, the most dreadful of its kind to have ever been. Even the most vile of devils would balk at associating with it. Like each Magna Pater before it, it wields the unique capacity to share the sight and manipulate the will of its subspecies, an apocalyptic abnormality which it does not abuse only for the sake of preserving its food supply.
Though it lingers not permanently in this world, it is anchored here during times of inactivity. It haunts the secret places deep below ground, amidst a lichen hellscape of death and graverot. It slumbers upon a towering mountain of soggy bones, reigning over its decaying empire on a haphazard throne several thousand lives thick. Those who enter this wretched domain, where the blue sky transitions into a black void, do so at the risk of becoming yet another skeleton upon which the Magna Pater may sleep, with their loved ones soon joining them.
In my post, I was visualising Slimy as being on the mech's head rather than back, so that it wouldn't be pinned. I mentioned that its tail would have been raised above the back. Just felt like it was a good idea to check up with you on this before rolling along. Where I come from, if a misinterpretation comes along, it gets corrected I.C'ly. For example...
Me: -Gonad threw a kick at the baboon's head as it stood.-
Opponent: -As the monkey had never stood after ducking, were Gonad to follow through with said kick he would be left at the baboon's mercy for a punch in the nuts.-
It's sort of like autocorrect, drawing attention to a misunderstanding without having to pause the battle. Here though, I've noticed that matches look cleaner because things get settled in the background.
Well, that's that. Since it's the judge's decision, I concede that point. Forgiving you is a silly thing, because I never had anything against you in the first place. I'm just glad the match can continue, and I hope it's fun for all. It's a lot like a Stanley Kubrick movie, you know? The I.C battle looks neat, but behind the scenes there's chaos.
The Magna Pater would have only rushed fully for freedom had the optics been destroyed. It could tell that wasn't the case. The blasted thing was still mostly in one piece. It knew now that it could not best this foe in terms of force. It already had stuck its head and shoulders through the gap in the arm to escape, and its tail had by now flicked up above the mech's back. Higan was a quick thinker, but Slimy was leagues beyond the concept of quick thought. It stopped dead, knowing that darting down the mech's front in full visibility was suicide. A bit too late though, as it had been in a hurry. It was pulled partially forwards by the arm, but stuck fast to the head of the mech with its potent adhesive slime. With a sucking noise, its slippery head would slurp free of the tightening gap in the arm, like a wedding ring being pulled off a soapy finger. Strong though the mech was, its flexibility was poor and the sleek metal could scarcely hope to contain the beast. At least, not entirely. Slimy did not escape unscathed. A large flap of its skin had been torn off from the pressure, leaving nearly the entire right half of its gaunt skull exposed. Its black, rat-like eyes bulged with veiny malignance, teeth grinding as the naked fibers of its jaw muscles twitched. Thick strings of maroon blood hung from its glistening jowls. Any longer and its head might have been crushed. In an instant, Higan smashed into the wall, the broad of it smacking into the monster's backside and cracking three of its thick ribs. Any lesser creature, perhaps a bear or a gorilla, might have even suffered a broken back or been knocked off. This one, though, was intent on having Higan be granted entry into the Guinness Book of World Records, for the feat of having the fuck-ugliest hat in existence.
The Magna Pater did not get knocked off, and it did not hesitate to slap its right paw right into the glass of the optics (both of them) a split second after they struck the wall, taking note of any preventive final moment measures the wily pilot might whip out to stop it. If it could not break them, then it would coat the glass in a layer of slime so dense, so sticky, so nasty, that not even Jay Leno's chin could scrape it off. It would slather that gunk on good and thick. It might even make the electro vision appear as a hazy blue booger fog. It could produce enough mucous to make a hagfish hurl and could slick itself free from its mount in an instant, but as it had followed through with its rock smash, so it wanted to follow through this. It kept its long tail coiling beneath itself, though for the entire length to do so, there would likely be not enough time.
The monster knew what it wanted, and if it could speak, it would lay claim to the following. It hungered for this small victory, for this partial revenge. More than it hungered for those screaming brats and their mothers, those fat f*cking c***$ it loved taking days to finish. It wanted to see this one squirm and die, squirm forever. If the best it could manage was to screw up its enemy's sight for a day, then it would take it. It would take what it could get, because later, oh yes, later...
*The stream of thought gurgles into a poisonous torrent of unspeakable profanity.*
Slimy just running was getting boring, and I figured that you wouldn't underestimate my character's abilities. How wrong I was. ---- And yet, how convenient it is that Higan can pick out where Slimy is all the time, even when his technology doesn't account for it? Military training is a poor excuse for Higan's first fired shot in the cave to be at Slimy. That graze would have attracted the anomaly radar. Somehow I reckon that if Slimy had been hiding inside of his bone throne, Higan would have thought it suspicious and blown it up first thing. ---- Didn't I make it clear how agile Slimy is? Of course it had avoided your briefly described "warding" with just as much descriptive effort. It's a semi-bullet timer with skill that puts Spiderman to shame. It's been having anti-material rounds thrown at it throughout the entire match, and an oversized poker wielded by something with the hand speed of a human can touch it? --- Uh, so now you are trying to say I've metagamed? I won't even debate there. I'll just encourage any readers to look at what you've said and think for themselves. I honestly don't know how you can do this with a straight face, considering the whole Anomaly Radar fiasco. --- You trying to predict a victory is futile. "I could have done this, be glad I didn't do that." Well you didn't, so it's not up for debate.
