Letting her eyes glance over, Nyx isn’t surprised to find Lady Safina Haliel has rejoined the gala. She wishes that Willowsteel would stop accusing ‘Duke Rhinecliff’ of hiding something though - perhaps the real duke could withstand this with a pleasant smile, but Nyx isn’t as easily amicable as he is. She doubts the court would find her impersonation of him as ‘fun’ as he does.

But not before seeing the outcome of the challenge from Duchess Altina. She leaned over towards the fake Rhinecliff. “This should be, if anything, entertaining.”

Nyx nods her head solemnly, but tries to keep her face, or rather Duke Rhinecliff’s face, ambiguous. Lots of eyes have turned to the queen to see what she will decide, excited whispers dancing through the crowd of might be a proper duel between duchies, but she doesn’t want to be caught with the wrong expression. Honestly, she might have asked Agustria to help make an escape if attention isn’t called back to Rhinecliff with Willowsteel’s next spur of spoken vomit.

Resisting the urge to just flash Willowsteel an offensive gesture or roll her eyes, Nyx crosses her arms over her chest instead. She simply raises an eyebrow in reaction as Duke Grimhand stands beside her.

He side-eyed Duke Rhinecliff. “Sorry lot, Duke Willowsteel. The man has a good heart, but it’s been hard, isolated as he is at the edges of the province, and with no access to a port. The lack of magic means they do even menial tasks by hand, and that-” He sighed a rumbling sigh. “-can take a toll on a man’s patience.”

He leaned over slightly, catching Duchess Agustria's face. ”I've heard the parties in your part of the province rival even that of the Queen, is that right?”

Nyx smiles warmly at the duke and nods - she had always regarded him as a level-headed man, and entertaining to talk to when she had Olivia’s body on. “Well, we certainly lack the… particular discipline it takes to have to do everything without magic.” She says, letting her eyes meet Grimhand’s before shifting her gaze to the duel building up. “I will say that Duccess Agustria’s parties never seem to leave anyone disappointed though.”

Cass hasn’t texted Nic back as Todd pulls up in front of her house. He thanks him for driving and grabs his duffel bag of clothes to sling over his shoulder before snatching the smoothies. He heads up to her door, briefly wondering if he should know or not but ultimately decides to walk in. It’s cute when Cass is surprised.

“Honey, I’m home!” Nic calls out, making sure to close the door behind him with his foot. Wayland has already sprinted excitedly to his side, meowing as he climbs his leg as if to ask where he’s been.

Pretty confident that she had seen Nero and Caden leave the gym, she wraps her arms around Avery’s Neck and pulls herself as close to Avery as she can while returning the kiss.

All the tension that had been building up in her fades almost instantly when Avery hugs Kiki. She closes her eyes, taking a deep breath in, letting his musk surround her. Deep down, she knows he’s right. There was nothing she could have done differently aside from just not leaving the house that night. Her arms wrap tightly around her boyfriend as she hugs him back.

When Avery moves away, Kiki almost moves herself to pull him back in, but his large thumb under her chin stops her. Nic grins at the text he receives back from Cass, chuckling as Todd pulls up to the smoothie place. The human offers to get the driver one as well, which he accepts.

The place has a little line in it, but it moves rather quickly thanks to the employees and their efficiency. Soon, Nic has a peanut butter and ‘jelly’ smoothie for himself, an orange cream for Todd, and Cass’ weird banana kale as he walks back to the car and gets in. He sends a quick follow-up text to let her know their ETA.

“But that’s for normal foxes to get away from predators like normal wolves.” With a deep breath, Kiki sighs. “I’ve also never tried climbing a tree as a fox anyhow.”

Even if Avery hadn’t described it out loud, she still would be experiencing the memories all over again. Kiki concentrates on a specific spot on the floor, counting to four as she breathes in and to eight as she breathes out as she fidgets with her fingers.

Appearance

A tiny thing to begin with, Merripen has large, warm, reddish brown eyes that take up most of her face that react much like earth’s Tarsier (has some of the best nocturnal vision) and has both legs amputated and replaced with short prosthetics. Her long back hair reaches past her bum and she’ll often have it in her face. Two small horns adorn the top of her head, mostly black with a hint of red. At first glance, you would think Merripen has no mouth despite the little dimples appearing in her cheeks, but on closer inspection you’ll find that the skin in the area looks suspicious. She can unhinge her jaw and open her ‘mouth’ widely, the flesh dripping and tearing each time she does so. With no tongue, teeth, or vocal cords, she is not able to speak. Very pale skin with peach and a hint of purple undertones.

Personality/History

Born to a Quasit father and Quasit-based Numan mother, Merripen was born with her magic but was also orphaned at a young age in an accident that took most of her legs along with her parents. Merripen likes to keep a low profile and not draw attention to herself. Being the daughter of a mob boss wasn’t something she was particularly proud of or willing to share with everyone, even if she was dead. The other children her age would bully her relentlessly for just about anything as she grew up, pushing her to grow her magic as soon as possible. When her stains mutated her body, Merripen no longer resembled her mother or even a Numan anymore. The bullying from other children became worse and her inheritance of the mob was questioned.

When her uncle took over the syndicate, he kept Merripen on a short leash as she became forced to work under him. Enduring treatment for the nepotism of her position, she also was regarded as trash that didn’t belong for her appearance. Merripen now keeps to herself, preferring being alone and silently observing the actions of others rather than engaging with them, much like the behavior of a skittish cat. Vhoth has always been the exception to this, his extroverted charm managing to bring the tiny thing out of her shell more. Although he’s liked by most, anyone who’s bad-mouthed her best friend usually ends up mysteriously disappearing.
