“Dad I did it, I-” Lucas said quietly as Andre exasperatedly turned him towards the camera

“C-camera side is here, Luke.”

“O-oh r-ight sorry Mr. Andre I- I just n-never done an i-interview before; I’m uh, a little n-nervous.” Lucas stuttered, looking up to Andre who wordlessly nudged him back towards the facing the camera before flashing his gameshow smile.

“D-dad I did it!” Lucas said with a strange mixture of pride and fear “I m-made it all the way to B-Brazil. A-and for the past f-f-few weeks I’ve been do-doing all the t-training you s-said I should. And even if I die in this tourney, and I- I might Andre, they can never take a-away the fact that I made it here... I-I don’t know what to say.”

“Well Lukey I hope you realize that as a fighter you’re going to have to defend your spot.” Andre said, his smile still flashing but speaking in a fairly condescending tone.

“I will A-Andre, I won’t be a c-cowardly fighter; I’ll face off against anybody.” Lucas appeared even more terrified than usual, drawing in a shaky breath before continuing. “....A-anybody.”

“Have ya got any idea as to who your first match might be with?” Andre asked, pulling out a crisp white sheet from his coat pocket.

“I-I have no idea Andre who is it? Who?”

“Jeremy Halvit.”

“Jeremy Halvit?”

Lucas stared off into the distance for a moment before burying his face into his hands.

“Oh God.”

“Hurn!”

The man in the black gi threw a punch endowed with all the strength he could muster but the cowboy flowed like water underneath and kicked his legs out from underneath him. He had known he was being followed and attempted to lure his would be stalker into a tenement building. He’d heard some stories of fighters being attacked by local thugs, some decently organised thugs who’d made increasing amounts of trouble ever since the tournament began, the man had quickly realised his error when the strange cowboy revealed himself and the fight began. He was no thug and this was more than simply to stir up trouble.

The man narrowly avoided a savage stomp by the cowboy but wasn’t quick enough to move from the follow up kick to his ribs. Whoever this person was, he was very fast but what was most unnerving was just how quiet he was during this. He didn’t taunt or brag or threaten, he just kept coming.

With a burst of rage the man in the black gi propelled forward and unleashed three quick jabs, none connected but the cowboy was now on the defensive, moving back the man placed both his hands together and shot out a pale blue projectile that fiercely lit up the abandoned building. The cowboy rolled to one side as the projectile hit the concrete wall and sparks travelled across the concrete, the man took the chance to dart forward and attempt to catch the attacker with an elbow smash but his attack was cut short as a sudden bullet lodged itself into his arm.

The man cried out in pain and stumbled backwards yet still gritted his teeth and attempted to advance, he was forced back as another shot landed dangerously close to his foot, the cowboy advanced twirling the revolver in his hand, forcing the man backwards. Another warning shot at his feet caused the man to lose his footing and fall back, he attempted to get his bearings back but two more shots on either side of him caused him to shuffle awkwardly to avoid being cursed with another round. He got to his feet and in a sudden show of speed himself he shifted his body and his leg avoided being impaled with a shot from the revolver, the bullet placing itself in the wall behind him.

“That was all six shots.” The man said, gasping for breath but his determined expression remaining “I counted.”

Voyt raised an eyebrow. “Good for you.” He said as he fired a shot into the man’s kneecap, causing him to collapse and yell out in pain.

The man looked up and even admirably managed to somewhat maintain his expression of disgust despite the feeling in his arm deadening and the intense pain shooting across his leg, his face grew red from the pain but he never stopped glaring into Voyt’s eyes.

“Why would someone want you dead.” Voyt said suddenly, holstering his gun with a slight flourish and adjusting his hat.

“I think I should be asking that question.” The man said, his eyes still fixed on Voyt but allowing himself to shift his body against the wall to a more comfortable position for his leg “All I’m here to do is fight in the tournament.”

“What brought you here?” Voyt asked, he wasn’t exactly used to talking with targets and shuffled somewhat as he spoke.

“What?” The man said confused “What do you mean? I teach martial arts, hrn, martial arts to my kids and run a little school on the weekends. My, my students signed me up” He said, the pain of injuries inhibiting his speaking.

Voyt paused for a moment and gave a slight nod.

“So, urgh, who hired you then? Why did they tell you to come get me?” The man asked, attempting to sit up but very quickly giving up on the prospect.

Voyt didn’t answer.

“Look.” The man said with a weary sigh. “I have a family, I have kids. I don’t expect that means… Very much to a guy like you, but all I wanna do is get home to ‘em. What- urgh, whatever thing you’re involved in, I’m sure it doesn’t have a damn thing to do with me.” he said, watching as Voyt began slowly walking towards him.

Voyt continued to stare at the man as he slowly unholstered his revolver. The man looked wearily at Voyt before slowly closing his eyes.

Voyt aimed the revolver at the man’s head and rolled his thumb against the cylinder giving an audible click. For a moment there was silence as Voyt stood still.

With a sudden deft movement, Voyt smacked his gun against the side of the man’s head.

Out cold but still softly breathing, the man lay still against the wall, his injuries were bad but he wasn’t running the risk of bleeding out and there’d be hospitals nearby surely. Even then, in that moment Voyt gripped his gun tight enough that his knuckles began turning white, he was still in two-minds about finishing it.

“...Damn it.” he said finally as he kneeled next to the man and plunged a syringe into the side of the man’s neck. He watched the case fill with his blood and then took the syringe out when it was reasonably filled, ejecting its contents into a small vial he pulled out from a pouch.

Voyt stood up and continued to stare at the man for a few more moments before finally holstering his revolver and walking away.

The sun hit Voyt’s senses in, frankly, a very unpleasant manner. Enough that he had to hold his hand in front of his face to let his eyes adjust after growing used to the dark building he’d previously been in. Questions had been the wrong move, it wouldn’t happen again. Voyt’d do what he was paid to do, get his payment and then leave. He’d seen enough of these people and this “Jackal” to last a lifetime. Even still the tournament proved to be his best bet to find the remaining few people left on his list, guage what they could do and track them down when the time was right, no more mistakes, no more targets getting out of his reach at the last moment.

’No more accidents’ thought Voyt as he left the building behind.
Voyt pulled his mask down and let it hang around his neck, exposing the light stubble on his face and a some scarring on one side of his mouth. He tipped his hat slightly upwards so as to illuminate his bored face, whilst he was still far from inconspicuous at least he wouldn’t look as threatening… Sans the two Single Action Armies that hung at his sides. At least the poncho at his side covered one of ‘em. He was just a spectator, nothing more, a mantra he continued to repeat to himself as he neared the large arena hosting the tourney, looking up at the intricate digital signs advertising that fact.

Voyt then looked down towards the affair at his feet. Several rogue-ish looking folk very thoroughly beaten into the sand, some with more serious wounds than others. Voyt pondered on this for a slight moment though he didn’t even raise as much as an eyebrow, fights outside these tournaments were fairly common, particularly with how much there’d been incidents happening recently more agitated competitors were bound to be on the prowl.

Voyt nonchalantly raised his boot and stepped over the woman at his feet as he continued making his way to the main entrance of the arena.
Cain stood still as the woman in fur barged past him, chances are she would have gone straight though him were he not flesh and blood.

Regardless he ignored her as if she herself did not exist, his shoulder moving like water back where it was after being disturbed by the woman, the golden lady spoke, an arrogance that was impossible to ignore. Even still he found her terribly annoying, his emotions were stunted and even then he was too professional to fall prey to trivial dislike but her tone left a painful ring in Cain's ears, he did not particularly care about her opinions however and waited until she spoke of potential employment.

He was not overly fond of being paid at the end of the job, chiefly due to the fact that many employers attempted to kill him after, or rather sent someone to kill him. Not that ever ended quite well for them but it was additional mess Cain could do without. He looked as the gilded woman, gazed at her blonde hair and beautifully woven armour with his cold dead eyes, he then shifted upwards to glare at her eyes. He did not trust her. He believed he could kill her. He counted several different ways he could do so right now. He foresaw betrayal. He recalled that jobs were beyond dried up in Falke.

He suddenly nodded, ever so slightly.

"Understanding." He said, his face never changing and his eyes never closing "Payment upon conclusion is satisfactory. Understand you may not need help, thought would offer regardless. Glad deal arranged." Whilst his face, voice and even eyes never shifted from a robotic neutral, his following words carried a cold assurance "Sincere. Hold no malice, but must be clear. Attempt to betray or withhold payment, will have to kill you. Thought would lay that out." He gave a slight shrug of his shoulders as if he were simply explaining a standard trade deal as opposed to essentially making a threat.

He looked over at the strange woman from before "Will gain answer for question perhaps later. Sheepish. Would like to leave Falke now, don't care for me here."

With his eerie velvet tread, Cain walked past the group, never glancing at anyone as he slid by. He stood at the back of the group and gestured slightly with his arm.

"Spirited. Whenever you're ready." He said, staring blankly at the road ahead.

Dude, that's like the exact kind of look I was going for when I was thinking of concepts for Haede, do you mind if I use it for that?

Also DMC4 would have been goddamn perfect if they finished it.

THEY WILL SEEEEE WE'LL FIGHT UNTIL ETERNITYYYYYYYY

It'd be one of my favourites alongside DmC 3 if that was the case.
So I finally beat Griffon for the last time on Dante Must Die after several tries and my wrist hurts a bit due to mashing the square button so much but I'll still probably try to draw a thing tonight.

EDIT: Thing is drawn. Have a demon or two.

MGSV struck me as more of an over-ambitious title than one he flat out didn't want to make, but I can't remember the last time Kojima didn't say that whatever MGS game he was working on was going to be his last one, so maybe he really lost enthusiasm this time around. I'd be tempted to break out the world's smallest violin for this whole dilemma where this extremely well-known and respected developer just has to keep coming back and making games with an incredible amount of creative control in an incredibly successful and renowned series, but I do tend to bitch a lot about how From Software used to have a lot more variety in their game lineup before Souls hit it big, so I guess I'd be kind of a hypocrite. I'd personally prefer it if all that time and money went into, say, Zone of the Enders 3, but I often wonder how many of those who bring up Kojima being kinda forced to work on MGS share my enthusiasm for that series (or Kojima's other work in general) or even bought them. MGS games kept getting made because they sold well, and that never really happened with anything else he made, at least in comparison.

I disagree, I think there was actually a lot of potential in MGSV's plot to finally justify that incredibly dumb twist in 4 and a couple of stupid things in Peace Walker, and it does! In casette tapes that randomly appear in the inventory at the end of the game that of course got played in the trailers like they would factor into the plot in some meaningful way... Well, I guess we still got to listen to everyone prattle on about vocal chord parasites like nanomachines never went out of style. Talk about a lack of priorities.

All I know for sure is that I'm finding it pretty difficult to jump on the Death Stranding hype train after taking a ride on MGSV's.

I will say I do have no love for Konami at this point but I think it was more a gradual thing rather than him just saying that at this point "I don't want to make any more." I mean, MGS4 capped the series off pretty nicely imo even if there was a few lingering holes which may have stuck around but over the years of resources and control over the same game I can see someone getting disenfranchised, like the opposite problem of having a lack of resources, having tonnes along with higher expectations and more people to please each time can probably take it out of you over time. Regardless of the reasoning (And because we've taken up most of the OOC page with essays about Metal Gear lol) MGSV is just a very flawed game to me, it's for sure the weakest of the series and whilst I was interested with the idea of the story it really didn't measure up. I'd have loved for so many of those tape recordings to be animated for even more cut-scenes, if there's a lack of them outside on the field then at least put more into Mother Base instead, feel like you're doing stuff by expanding your knowledge on who you're working with (Just for example Ocelot's story on how he got the nickname Shalashaska)

The Midge Ure cover of Man Who Sold The World was pretty good tho

I know MGSV's development is understandably a touchy subject for a lot of people, but even though I'm still kind of salty about what Konami did to Team Silent and Igarashi, it's pretty hard for me to lay all of the blame on Konami with MGSV. They gave him 80 million dollars and a few years to make the game, which is more than a lot of developers could hope for. When I played the game and drove through all those vast expanses of wilderness with nothing significant in them, it really struck me as a waste of time and money, and coupling this with the writing fumbles like the one you mentioned with Ocelot really gives me the feeling that Kojima and his team were doing a poor job at managing the time and money they were given, whether it was sufficient or not. Even if he'd gotten it, rounding off the game with yet another Sahelanthropus fight like it was supposed to still feels pretty underwhelming.

But yeah, those optional scenes with Venom breaking up fights and shit with his boys were pretty cool and I would have liked to see more of that sort of thing.

Oh yeah Konami isn't the primary one to blame imo. But I kind of feel like they have some indirect responsibility, 80 million or no Kojima didn't even want to make another game in the series and like you said with the expansive worlds with nothing of note in them and really a plot that overall doesn't really need to exist in the grand scheme of things it really shows. I mean, with the Ocelot thing and other questionable choices there is some excuse for it, but it feels less like a major plot element having validity and more like it's there just so the point itself isn't entirely nonsense. It's more that it's a game that has a lot of tools to be great, I'd argue the gameplay is probably the smoothest MGS has ever been but from a story and emotional standpoint everything feels either cardboardy and tacked on (killing the infected soldiers really didn't even come close to hitting me with the emotional punch as much as furiously tapping X through the microwave hallway) or they're just not there.

It's just the games good points that annoy me more for that reason. Like I love seeing Venom show Eli why Big Boss is the master of CQC, or just that scene with Ocelot echoing the words Big Boss taught him in 3, if there was at least more of that I could enjoy my experience more and empathize more with the cast.
<Snipped quote by Drag>

I personally prefer playing them in release order but yeah, Peace Walker takes place 10 after MGS3 if I remember. I'd personally like it if they didn't go on with all of these Big Boss prequels after 4 wrapped things up but Peace Walker's pretty nice. It's kind of like MGSV if it had some gameplay variety, more boss fights, a final boss (Well, two final bosses), a neat plot, and actually felt finished. The fact that it was originally made for PSP does mean that it's a bit sparse in guards and a few other concessions so it might help to keep that in mind as far as expectations go.

Oh yeah for sure, no doubt that it'll be a bit of an awkward transition but it'll be good to cross it off the list. Really gonna have to push my way through PP tbh. It's more just cause it's probably the weakest of all the MGS games imo but everything with Konami and all the stuff removed from it and god knows what else they forced Kojima to take out for time has the game leaving a bad taste in my mouth. The lack of cut-scenes and Ocelot not being much of a mad bastard doesn't help things for me, which is a shame cause I was always really interested in the formation of The Diamond Dogs and would have enjoyed more content putting forward that brotherhood mindset.

HD or Legacy? Either way, I'd say that they're perfect if they didn't leave out the nightmare codecs from Snake Eater. They also took out that whole Ape Escape tie in but even as an Ape Escape fan I don't really care that much...

As for my gaming bucket list, I've got Yakuza 0 (and the rest of the series once I'm done with that), both Nier games, Breath of the Wild, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2 (and I guess I'm replaying the first one now that I got it on Steam), The Last Guardian, the Pokemon and Ace Attorney games I missed until I got a 3DS, and I'm also doing another DMD run on DMC1 in HD this time and going through Viewtiful Joe on V-Rated for the first time because I guess I can't just play one Hideki Kamiya game at a time.

Yeah, I'm gonna be at these for a while...

Legacy, got it for £30 with an extended shipping time cause it was that or pay upwards of £70 for basically the same thing. Although the version I bought doesn't come with the artbook sadly but hey it had the most reasonable price for all of those games so I'm happy. Gonna try playing them all chronologically so it's 3, PP, 1, 2, 4 and maybe Revengeance. Never played Peace Walker which it also comes with so gonna need to look that one up timeline wise, pretty sure it's after three though.

But yeah I couldn't even begin to go through all those games. My college work/ social life/ musical career is suffering enough as it is~

Which KH remix? I have all of them except for the latest one (I need to get money to buy them).

1.5+2.5 remix

Replaying through the first which I was too young to really understand what was going on. Looking forward to playing two since I never even got a chance to give that a go
