Hello!

I'm Pollen, hope you're not allergic. I like writing a myriad of characters in all kinds of genres, so I'm pretty much down for anything roleplay-wise.

Come talk with me if you want! I'm friendly.

Still, I just can't get past that 7th post. The funny bit is all I want is experience and seems lady luck is determined not to give it to me, lol.

Well, it looks like Shiden really is gone (you'd think he would at least have let us know)... so by default you win, I guess.

Next up for you on the bracket is @Doc Doctor, who is generally quite consistent with his fights, from what I have seen. Hopefully he'll be able to give you a full match? Might still end in seven posts if you're not careful, Gonad can be pretty lethal... but should be a more satisfying fight, if you're ready to move on.
Anyone going to post? Or are we all waiting on something?
I did say 'no immediate wounds' in regards to the spear attack, which would assume that wounds would be suffered eventually. My post only covered a very short period of time (maybe a second at most) and the burning effect seems to be a sustained contact thing (particularly in these circumstances) so taking damage in that time frame seemed unrealistic.

Pretty much what I figured. He might get hurt, but he wouldn't be hurt hard or fast enough to interrupt his other actions.
Okay...

Lots of tricky details involved here, but not all of them are relevant. You both seem to agree it's unlikely Sigurd would be disarmed. There's some debate over what delays his sword and how it delays it, but though being hit by a shield and/or gladius would certainly disrupt an attack, all Sigurd's doing right now is pulling it back, trying to get it out of the way. How jarring it feels doesn't really matter, he should be able to move his sword back regardless.

Second thing was the spear strikes, which Sigurd basically let himself tank. However, we've already established that the angle and distance at which Iolanthe is attacking does not allow for a great deal of hitting power. I can imagine Sigurd would receive some cuts and burns, even with his protection, and it would have been nice to have him go into more detail on the effects... but essentially, such wounds are not going to stop him from advancing and attacking with his shield, and so there's nothing technically invalid about his actions. We can assume Sigurd's legs are injured, but even a more conservative estimate of his protective gear should be enough to prevent truly debilitating damage from the attack described.

Essentially, there are certainly some valid complaints to be made about Melon's post, but nothing so major that an edit is really needed. Better to move on to Iolanthe for now.

*braces self for inevitable argument about shields*
Alright, so... @Drifting Pollen, I'm definitely going to need your help and verdict here.

I'd like to see the effects of Iolanthe's attacks written in Melon's post, but rather he's completely ignored them all. Not even a depict of them having missed, nor mention whatsoever... this frustrates me.

Re-read the post. It wasn't particularly obvious, but both of Iolanthe's attacks were mentioned, with a response described for one and effects described for the other.

His longsword glanced off heavy armour, the rebound and subsequent carrying of his arm off to his right clearing him from the sphere of influence of the swiftly descending shield.

and

Fortunately pushing closer to his foe in this fashion would make manipulating her spear more difficult, the edge may begin to burn through his tougher armour such as the iron shin plates, but no immediate wound was suffered on his advance.

There ya go.
@ShidenBlades

Don't mean to bug you about this, though it is long past Monday, but... your current forum signature kind of merits attention here. Will you be staying to finish the match?
I made my entire post under the pretense that Sigurd's attack was aiming at Iolanthe's right leg... though either way, the shield's fall should still protect Iolanthe's left leg.

Yes. Hopefully this will not be a problem.

@MelonHead Your turn to post, when you're ready.
Fine, to clarify, are we retconning my typo and saying Sigurd struck at Iolanthe's left leg, as my other descriptors make it pretty clear that was my intended target? If so, then I accept the ruling, if not, the ruling doesn't make sense.

For the sake of things making sense, we'll ignore the typo (you can fix if it you want) and have the attack go for the left leg.
As a young woman suddenly morphed into a hideous, scaly beast, and the room broke out into a momentary panic, Cassandra remained very, very still. Her eyes were wide, and her face pale, but she did not so much as tremble.

Primitive predator, thus vision is likely movement-focused. It will chase fleeing prey first. There are eleven others in this room, therefore even with movement bias discounted, the probability of it going for me first is 8.33%, or 9.09% if the machine is unpalatable. Decent odds. Best to stay still for now, probability of escape will be more than doubled if the creature is already feeding on one of them...

Fortunately, the raptor started squawking instead of eating people. Cassandra breathed a sigh of relief that quickly became a stream of quiet, surprised laughter. For a moment, her whole body seemed to loosen up a bit, looking for once like something alive rather than a broken pupped. This did not last long, however. She quickly remembered where she was and clamped one hand over her mouth, glancing around with cheeks burning bright red, afraid that someone might have caught her momentary lapse. She had to hold it together.

From then on she remained in the same gawky position she'd stayed in for most of the meeting, not uttering a word as the strangers at the table voiced their questions and concerns. Perhaps the corners of her mouth quirked up slightly in response to Cody's smile, though it was hard to say. Otherwise, there was little sign of movement from her, as she did her best to simply fade into the background unnoticed.

Finally, their employer started getting to the point, talking about equipment and lodgings and actual work. Cass took about two seconds to memorize the holographic map, then took two more to plot out optimal escape routes, just in case someone else turned into a massive toothy monster. Their first jobs hadn't been specified yet, but she did need a uniform... plus, being around all these people was starting to stress her out.

So, while the drunken alien slurred away, she quietly pushed her seat back, and slipped away from the table, moving around the edges of the room to leave it entirely. Quickly and silently, she strode through the hallways towards their living quarters, breathing a heavy sigh of relief once she thought she was out of sight of the others. They probably wouldn't notice her absence anyway. Time to check out those suits...
As you wish, now Pollen is going to come and insult me for being unable to debate with people again.

Eh, it wasn't so much that you were unable to debate with people. I was just saying that it was always worth a try, that it was possible to understand each other in such situations...

Seems you were right in this case though. I guess you two just don't get along? :P

Anyways, I read Iolanthe's post, and I don't see the problem with it. Sequence of actions appears to be as follows:

- Sigurd attacks Iolanthe's left leg with his sword (striking diagonally downwards). This leg is nearest Sigurd, and is more or less under her shield.

- Iolanthe kneels down, and the sword ends up hitting around hip-height, where the armored skirt prevents the sword from cutting in (blunt impact might still hurt, but at least she doesn't lose a leg).

- At the same time, she brings her shield arm down on top of the sword and Sigurd's hand. Her gladius is held facing downwards, the blow is moving downwards, and she aims to stab Sigurd's wrist from above.

- Then she basically flails her spear at his legs, trying to drive him off.

IDK what Melon is finding wrong with this? He said the sword would be pointing the wrong way, and technically it would, except there's this thing called a wrist, that would allow Iolanthe to change the angle of the blade relative to her arm. Having acted out the motion myself, according to the post's description, I can say with certainty that the amount of wrist movement required would not even be strenuous, let alone impossible.

So yeah, based on what I see, Melon's current complaints don't seem to hold much weight. If there's anything I missed, then feel free to let me know, but for now I see no reason to change anything.

(Also, I'd recommend not talking about previous rulings and arguments, because honestly what good is going to come of that? 'Focus on ze now!')
