Fu Sonzai no Genso: An Urban Fantasy Mystery RP

Ryo walked in to the dimly lit, slightly run down room and took a deep breath of his new work place. He then immediately regretted that decision as he remembered a bit too late that Toshiko quite enjoyed her cigarettes, so whatever the room may have smelled like was covered up by that tobacco/nicotine smell. Walking further in he saw his favourite homunculus, also the only one he had ever seen, "hello Akemi, nice to see you again." Between her hair and her body, the couch was out of the question as a place to sit. Instead he decided to grab the paper and sit on one of the chairs.

He didn't really want to read the paper but he figured Toshiko would be down in a minute and he wanted something to do in the meantime. Akemi was reading something herself, which Ryo didn't notice at first. Taking a bit more notice, he saw the book was in english, and the picture on the cover was somewhat childish. He wasn't going to say anything about it, if that was what she wanted to read then why mention it at all, it didn't affect him. Ryo was wondering where the other employees were, maybe in the bathroom or something? At any rate, he was sure others would be here soon, it wouldn't just be the three of them working here. At any rate, Ryo just sat quietly looking through the paper, apparently there was going to be a storm today. He smiled a bit when he read that, he loved storms.

Personality: Ryo is an optimist through and through. No matter how bad things get he will always try to find a bright side and keep his spirits up. He is a happy guy most of the time, but should he get truly angry everyone should beware. Ryo doesn't like to get angry, because he knows he gets very violent when he does.

Abilities: Ryo is a Mage with an affinity for Darkness. He can control shadows, take light away from areas and other similar things. He has also learned to travel through shadows which would be outside his affinity, but limiting the travel to shadows only simplifies things.

Weapons/Equipment: Just his phone, his wits, and his fists.

Brief Backstory: Ryo grew up having a fairly ordinary life. He and his family were Magi but because of the secrecy of the magical community Ryo felt as though he was never living up to his full potential. Ryo grew up learning magic and about famous mages from the past, but he could never use any of it outside of his house, he felt like he was meant to use his magic for something more. For most of his life Ryo has taken some form of martial arts, he's never needed to use it but he would be pretty good in a fight if the need arose. After high school he went to school to become a teacher, thinking that's what he could do to help the world. Shortly after finishing his schooling he learned about the Fu Sonzai no Gensō detective agency, and he knew he wanted to join. To finally do something with his magic to help others.

Which issues have I failed to address? Is the ability section not specific enough? I'm just terrible at coming up with specific things my character can do. And sorry about the name, Zephyr Erebus is usually just my go to name in an RP, people usually don't think much about what it means

Alright, got rid of the swords. I wasn't too attached, I just thought they'd be a cool addition. But since they're not working no big deal ^^'

Alright, edited some more, I just put the swords as equipment because I thought they were cool. If my explanation of them doesn't seem like it would fit then I'll just remove them. Could I make swords out of shadows? Or would that be another affinity?
