Freya was never good in public, not that she never enjoyed it but that she doesn’t do well around a bunch of people she didn’t know. James, on the other hand, was completely fine with it and made himself a good moral support for her. The lady behind the counter seemed to understand Freya’s timid nature and he gave her a grateful smile for her kindness. When she mentioned about the drinks he laughed softly. “She wouldn’t get a drink if we shared, I’m kind of a drink hog. But at least I know. However I will gladly share my fries with this lovely lady so why not make it a large fry. I’ll have an iced tea.”

When they were finished ordering, James got his card back and guided her to the pickup window where they were handed their food. Grabbing the nearly overflowing tray of food while grabbed the soda, he placed a bottle of ketchup to use and looked towards the nearly empty open seat. “Wherever you’d like to sit is good with me.” He said softly giving her a sweet grin as they started towards the seating area, he followed her lead.
A scatter-brained genius, that’s what a lot of people referred to Gray as; especially when it came to school. Somehow and in some miraculous way, he would get his homework done and pass all of his tests making him a straight A student. Little did the world know that Monica was the gift that kept him on track. ‘Gray you need to finish this’ and ‘You can do that when you’re done with blank’; she was one of the few individuals he would actually listen to and it was because he held her to such a high importance that what she said would be something he’d actually listen to and take into account.

“Thanks!” He said in a bright and cheery attitude as he tightened his grip on the box in his arms. When he said her name he paused for a second; nah. “I’m Gray, been here all my life.” He said with a nod as he attempted to try and look at her over the large amount of papers and folders but to no luck. Sure maybe not here in the apartment but in the city all of his life. But there was no reason to get specific with someone he didn’t know. “Office work, gotta love it when you have to take it home.” A chuckle rose and fell his shoulders, “I’ll give you some advice since you’re new. One, Mister Anderson is weird, he’s in on third floor in room three, don’t talk to him if you can avoid it. And if Mrs. Hammerstain finds out your room number; she’s the old lady with the black curly hair and always carrying her chiwawa, she’ll be at your door every Saturday at 2pm asking for sugar. I’m still not sure why but she does it to everyone she knows the room number of. Oh and the guy on 6th floor in room 12 is really loud and quite the jerk so most of us just grin and bear it.”
When she said she wanted to stop somewhere to get flats he nodded. “Alright but just to be clear, if you snack into the mud I would pull you out and carry you just like last night. I’m not afraid to do it.” He said with a cheeky grin down to her as he gave her shoulder a small squeeze and the two started towards the car. Her concern about someone following them seemed to be a shared feeling but he wasn’t going to let her know he had been thinking the same thing.

“It’s okay,” He spoke softly and reassuringly, “I’m here so you have nothing to worry about. But I’d recommend making sure to hold my hand whenever possible so we don’t get separated.” He stated with a cheeky grin. After dropping their things off in the trunk of his car, he locked it and the two of them popped back into the store to get her some flats. Once the shoes were changed out they placed them in the truck of the car and started towards the fairgrounds.

“Did you know?” James started as they got into the fairgrounds and went to the food stands. “Having food at festivals actually began in the medieval times? It was traditionally to trade either the currency of the time or a product for the food at the festival because the food was considered some of the highest quality available. Since everyone was out to impress the nobles and royals that came by they were always trying to show their best.” When it was their turn at the front of the line James gave a big smile. “Hi, I’ll take a corndog and a block of fries.” Pulling out his wallet he handed his card to the cashier so that Freya couldn’t argue before giving her his full attention. “What would you like?”
“So… much…. Paperwork!” A young man complained as he pulled files and folders from his car and set them on his hood. Running his hand through his messy black hair, his caramel eyes squinted down at the sun reflecting on the black hood, as if to make all the papers all the more displeasing to look at. Gray we need you to do this, Gray give your input on that, read over these and sign them, Gray blah blah blah. The young man’s life had turned into an insane rat race ever sense he joined his father’s company.

Gray Yin is the son of a famous software engineer and recently graduated from Harvard University with his PHD in software engineering ready to take over his father’s business. While he would much rather be working on his own things, as the up-and-coming CEO of the company when his father retires in the fall he had been charged with a lot of different things he was now required to look at.

Why do you live in such a rundown apartment building? People would ask him whenever they would come over to visit. Well, I haven’t found a house yet and no one would ever guess I’d have so many electronics inside. Was always his reasoning and it wasn’t far from the truth. He was just waiting for the right house to come on the market, or until he decided what plot of land he wanted to purchase so he could build his own. As he thought about his so called ‘friends’ he really missed Monica, his friend from high school, she was always a lot more level-headed than he was and also seemed to have his best interests at heart. He missed her a lot and couldn’t help but wonder what happened to her after all this time. He even still had some of their childhood photos hanging up on the wall. But that was a thought for another time.

Stacking his folders and papers onto a box of yet more papers and documents to look over, he struggled to get it into his arms and it blocked most of his line of sight. Quickly he hurried into the building before hearing the elevator. “Wait!” He called out in desperation as he hurried towards the elevator. Sticking his foot in, he saw walls retract and he nearly tumbled inside. “Phew!” Relief filled him as he didn’t have to wait for the elevator to take the stairs with all this stuff. “Can… can you hit the top floor button for me please?” He asked the individual blocked by all the boxes and papers. Please, please let this person be nice!
She was so adorable going around the candle shop. Especially when she put her arm around his waist; this was starting to feel more like a date day than just a day away from it all. He wrapped his free warm around her shoulder and continued through the store with her. She had a great taste in scents as she picked out a good share of things to enjoy. He couldn’t help but feel some eyes were on them but when he’d scan the area to look for anyone acting odd, he didn’t see anything. Mentally shrugging to himself he went back to enjoying the walk around with Freya.

Soon she declared she was finished and they went to the counter. “I’ve got it, don’t worry.” He said in a soft reassuring voice as the cashier rang up the items and put them in the bag. He paid for it with ease and took that bag now holding three. “So,” he began as they stepped outside and he looked around. “How about we go drop this stuff off in the car and then go get some fair food?” His voice was happy and upbeat and his smile twinkled as he looked down at her, his arm resting gently on her shoulder as they walked. He… he could get used to this.
This was such a wonderful day, despite the encounter with his classmate that left him feeling a bit awkward. Maybe he was too harsh on her but he didn’t want to give her the wrong impression to someone. Oh well it couldn’t be that bad right? A smile moved across his face as they walked hand and hand down the road.

She found a place she seemed to like and James followed suit with her into the store and it wasn’t long before they had a cart full of things his apartment lacked and decorations to make it feel more homey. “Well it would mean we could find more goodies because I wouldn’t be much of a gentleman if I made you carry more than your purchase.” He said with a chuckle. Of course if she wanted to carry the bags he’d let her but his first goal would be to make sure she’s comfortable. “Maybe delivery isn’t such a bad idea.”

When her attention moved to the candle shop across the street so did his and he couldn’t help but grin. “They also sell bath oils. Let’s see if we can find some matching candles and bath oils for your bath tonight.” He responded in a soft manor, his hand resting gently on her lower back once again while she gave the instructions to the people behind the counter. Leaning over he whispered in her ear, “The candles and the bath oils are my treat though.”
He felt bad for making her jump but he felt like he had a point to make to the outside world, he wasn’t here to run into someone else or to make a new connection. He was here to be with Freya and enjoy the day out. As she loaded things into the cart he couldn’t help but smile. She was so innocent in her ways and so true to herself that it made his heart flutter. She may not fully know who she is, or have the confidence she really should for the incredible person she is but in time she will build that confidence she really should have had all along.

Watching her swipe the card without a care in the world made him feel guilty for picking the most expensive set, but when it came down to it. It had everything he wanted/needed and was the best quality that he’ll get a massive amount of use out of for the longest period of time. Had anyone else been in his situation with a girl who had as much money as Freya did, they might have just filled the cart with stuff and made them pay for it… the thought of that brought back the uncomfortable night they had to deal with when it came to Alex.

When they stepped outside, James reached over and grabbed the two bags from Freya and took a gentle hold of her hand, lacing his fingers in with hers. “I think we can just keep hopping between stores. We’ll make a final trek back to the car before going to the fair.” A reassuring smile moved across his face as he gave her hand a small squeeze. “And yes I got the kind I wanted. They should prove to help make the meals I create for you even more delicious. Now,” His attention moved from her back to the streets. “Where to next?”
There was a morning routine anyone within a line of power falls into and Jonathon Branton was no exception to this rule. However, there is only a single person on this planet who knows the routine of one of the most powerful men in the country. “Sir good morning, your tea.” Adrian Watson said as he carried in a tray with hot tea, a biscuit and the daily newspaper. Setting down the tray on the end table as his master stirred, the maroon color haired man threw open the blinds that overlook the garden in the back of the house. A small sigh left him as he looked over the scenery before giving the slacking gardener the stink eye only to see him jump and suddenly resume his work tending to the garden.

“Adrian.” A voice from the bed spoke and the young man turned around to find the master of the house sitting up in bed reading the paper. “You have been the most loyal person I have ever encountered and the best butler in the world.” To that Adrian smiled and gave him a small bow of gratitude, Jonathon went on. “That being said, I need to ask something else of you, my most faithful employee.”

Adrian placed an open palm against his chest and bowed deeply to his master. “Anything for you master.”

“I need to you move stay with Layna until I find a suitable body guard.”

“Anything but that.” Adrian said raising his head to look at his master only to see him chuckle.

“Adrian, you and I both know you’re the only one fit enough to help Layna through this rough time. She will need the assistance of my finest employee and with your background I know you can do anything and everything to keep my daughter safe.”

“Sir, my talents will be wasted on her….”

“You truly underestimate my daughter,” Jonathon said with a nod, chuckling once more. “In addition, she is the one who will be taking over my business and she will need someone who already knows all the workings to help her. Besides, I will not be taking you with me when I retire; it is best you get to know your new mistress now.” To that Adrian re-lowered his head and nodded, “You will start today, please go tend to your new mistress.”

“Yes sir.” Adrian said, and at that he left his old master’s room and walked down the hallway. From Head Butler to professional babysitter…, a sigh left his fine lips as he pulled his walkie-talkie from his belt and placed a call for someone to bring a car around. After re-clipping it to his belt he arrived at his new young mistress’s room and knocked on the door.
This day was turning out to be rather fun. It was a strange feeling to be on such casual terms with someone you were supposed to be an employee for but it seemed as though he wasn’t the only one who had something other than just an employee/employer relationship in mind. He felt bad though, it was again the code of conduct for a butler to fall for his mistress or the other way around. But he wasn’t technically working today…

“Sure.” He said sounding excited about the idea of spending some time at a fair and watch some of the live entertainment they had going. They found a store that had household items and goods which made James all the more excited! The grin never left his face and his grip tightened slightly on their hand due to his thrill going to get the new cutlery.

She grabbed a cart and he followed beside her acting like a kid in candy store and it wasn’t long before they found the section with the cutlery. While she was lost in her phone he began to examine the sets they had available. While the debate went through his mind of whether he should get the kind he wanted or the less expensive version since the Von Ryker family was paying for it, a voice appeared next to him, and it wasn’t Freya.

“Oh.” James’ expression moved to one of surprise that a fellow classmate was present in the store. He listened to what she had to say and gave her a polite smile. Though when her hand rested on his arm he removed it as quickly as it happened before stepping a short distance away from her so that the sudden interaction wouldn’t happen again. “I appreciate your concern but I’m fine.”

“Since you don’t seem busy, why don’t we go get some coffee…” The young woman pressed taking a closer to him in an attempt to close the gap between them.

Again, James stepped back from her just as quickly as she approached him, “I’m flattered Rachel…”

“It’s Rebecca,” She sounded almost insulted that he didn’t remember her name.

“Rebecca, but I’m actually out with someone who’s very special to me.” He said with a stern nod, as he grabbed the cutlery set he really wanted and nodded to his classmate. “I appreciate your concern for me and the rest of the class as well but someone very important to me needed my support today and no one goes above the importance of her. Good day I’ll see you in class.” With that he left the girl standing there to walk over to Freya.

Placing his choice of cutlery into the cart and placed his large hand on the small of her back with a soft smile. “Shall we go pick out things for the apartment?”
