A smirk moved across Gray’s face as he watched her work her way towards the building. Good, she had a good head on her shoulders. That would be important to her survival as a hired wizard along with making it through Fairy Tail in one piece. Everyone had their own bit of crazy and he was no different but that doesn’t mean someone who just joins should be completely nuts. A little nuts is important but completely is just too much; they had Natsu for that and didn’t need anyone else to attempt to follow in his footsteps.

Gray followed along behind her being her lookout as they approached the window. Slowly, he peaked inside, the coast was clear and he gave her a small nod before reaching up and gently checking the window. It opened with ease before he stepped away, allowing her to get in first while he kept a look out. You can never be too careful dealing with thieves.
What was with this girl? Why could James be so comfortable around her and yet, not feel like he had to put on a show or be something different. This was very unlike anything he had ever experienced and now they were drifting off to sleep for the third time in each other’s arms. By the time he had realized she had fallen asleep, he was almost asleep himself. Pulling off her glasses, he gently set them on the coffee table before giving her a peak on the head and falling asleep himself.

    ---

The following morning he wiggled his way out from under her and went into his bedroom. He had to make a call, he had to.

“You!” He barked in a whispered tone from his bedroom.

“Me?” An innocent female voice said over the phone.

“You gave her the key to the apartment, you told her I was taking classes; damnit Annie do you know how much of a panic you could have put this poor girl in if she went off on the tangent of thinking she was ‘helping me’ by taking care of herself then lighting the kitchen stove on fire.”

“She did that?” Annie responded on the other end of the phone with a chuckle.

“It’s a metaphor.” James responded in a soft groan. “Annie why did you tell her?”

“James, quit being stupid. She likes you. She would find out sooner or later and better it comes from me than from some random person or running into you at the school.”

A defeated sigh left James, a sigh that covered up the calling of his name. “Look, I appreciate what you’re doing but please let Freya and I find our own ways.”

“It’s the blind leading the blind; you aren’t even brave enough to ask her out on a da…”

“I’ll have you know we went on a date last night and she said she had fun so in your face.”

“Listen to you all growing up but it took a push from me to get you to do it.”

“Look Annie, please try not to stick your nose into our business. Freya gets frazzled enough as is and I don’t want any additional pressure. I’ve got to get ready before she wakes up, I’ll text you later.”

“Wait…” Annie called, “Is she at your apartment?!” All she got was a chuckle as a response before James hung up.

Walking out of the bedroom he entered into the bathroom as Freya made her way into the kitchen. Before long he had stripped out of his clothes and got into the shower. The moment he turned on the water, the warmth hit him and he let out a long sigh… that was until the water changed drastically dropped temperature and he let out a scream of surprise and sprang from the shower. “Cold Cold Cold!!”
He sounded like he had a very interesting life. More so than others; but that probably comes with being raised by a dragon. This, this was a concept Taunie could never really understand. Much like the wanderers of Fairy Tail, her story was a bit different and didn’t involve much family.

When he asked about her story, how her life had been and what an everyday life in the guild was life. Her head jerked back in surprise and she pulled herself from the window to sit up straight. “Oh…” She began, her voice sounding a bit sad as she turned her gaze to the window. “Not many of us in Fairy Tail have happy background stories. Most of us made a good life and a good future for ourselves but our pasts aren’t so good. And I’m no different from that.” Her small shoulders rose and fell with a shrug as she turned her blue gaze back to him. “My only sibling died because we were playing with our magic. He was a wood-make wizard and he had created a bridge to get us across his cannon on one of our adventures out in the wilderness. As we were crossing there was a massive earthquake and the bridge gave way. My brother being a lot older than me grabbed me and threw me across the cannon to the other side and I watched him fall to his death.” A shaky sigh left her. “The town’s police were able to recover his body and my parents blamed me for his death and kicked me out. This happened when I was 13 and it wasn’t long before I wondered into Mongolia and found Fairy Tail. I worked in the kitchen for a while before I was able to start taking jobs.”

A shrug rose and fell her shoulders as her mood seemed to change and she began to talk about the guild. “Growing up in the guild was fun though. It was like having a massive and rather obnoxious family. Every day someone had a new story to share, every day someone accomplished something and would share it with the guild. It was always a party or laughter along with a chance to learn things. Every day I’d walk down the road towards the guild hall and wonder ‘what kind of stories await me today’, and ‘what adventures will I get to hear’. The best thing about a guild is that no one ever falls because someone is always there, someone always wants to help and everyone wants everyone else to succeed. We do fight, we do bark and bite at each other but we’re one big annoying family.” A small laugh left her; obviously talking about the guild over her own past was something more enjoyable.

The train pulled to a stop and she rose from her seat, work mode taking over as she pulled out the paper in her pocket. “We can talk more on our way back. For now we’ve got something we need to retrieve. Let’s go.”

After about two hours of walking almost aimlessly through the woods, they came upon a campsite and a wooden building. The whole walk Taunie remained almost silent, an odd trait for her. Her body tensed and her hands were almost shaking. Boy this… this wasn’t going to be good if they were caught. Hopefully this will all work out okay.

They hid inside some bushes near the campsite; some people were coming in and out of the cabin and to the tables marking things on rolled up pieces of paper. “Okay.” She whispered. “We have to make this quick and fast. Here’s the plan. She turned her blue gaze to Valier, “I need you to fly over there as soon as you see an opening and grab as many rolled up pieces you can than come straight back. If you stumble, fall or lose your flight abilities I’ll catch you and pull you to us.” She then turned her gaze to Ansel, “As soon as Valier gets back I need you to incase the site and the cabin in earth than we run back to the train and get on. Everyone ready?”
Who would have thought that with Serge’s background, his education and his talents that he would end up sitting in a run-down biker version of hooters, reading a book and eating dinner as a part of his job. Actually, it was not as a bad as you would think. In fact listening to her converse with guests along with her coworkers while munching away on some rather decent food made this job all the more bearable. The poor girl had it rough compared to Serge and he wasn’t going to degrade her job just because it was something he wouldn’t do. Instead he sat quietly, stayed out of her way and let her do her job to the best of her abilities; which was impressive to say the least. Since something like this wasn’t within his scope of practice, he could appreciate her attention to detail.

As the night rolled on, Serge ate his food with more grace than the bar seemed to process and continued on his read. That was until he overheard a rather aggressive drunk get at his client. It started out simple, little sly comments or flirtatious faces that would cause his blue gaze to move from the pages to peek at the individual from over his glasses. It wasn’t until the man began to follow her around the bar that Serge found himself more and more irritated.

“Come on baby…” The drunken man said practically leaning over the countertop at her. “You’re smokin’ hot and a total babe, just one night of fun. Come on… ditch work and let’s go get our groove on.” His sly remarks continued and from his corner, Serge slid his book mark into the pages and shut the cover. Placing the book down he pulled his glasses from his face and gently folded them together, placing them on top of the hard over.

“But sweetie, I’m what ya need. I’m what ya desire… a big strong hard working man. Plus I got a huge d…”

“Excuse me.” Serge’s voice cut off the man before he could continue to bug Lu anymore. “I think you need to leave this woman alone so she can continue to do her job with ease.”

The man who had been bothering Lu for the past two hours leaned on the counter to turn his body and look drunkenly at Serge who was standing straight up with his hands in the pockets of his jeans. “What the fuck do I need your opinion for? How about you just fuck off?”

“I think it might be best if you leave for the night. It sounds like you have had enough and could probably benefit from a cab ride home.” His voice was calm, as if he had been dealing with people like this all of his life but, there was a sense of coldness radiating from him. He didn’t like this guy and there was no doubt about that.

“I said fuck off.” The man said leaning towards Serge, as if he expected Serge to move or flinch under his lean; unfortunately it didn’t happen.

“Miss.” He called out to the blonde near the end of the bar, “Will you please phone a cab? I will help this man outside so he can get home safely.”

“To hell you are!!” The man shouted back as he pulled back a fist and swung.

Seeing it from the corner of his eye, Serge dodged quickly by jerking his upper body in the opposite direction of the swing. The man stumbled forward and looked madder than he did before. “How about you and I go wait outside for the cab?” was probably not what the man wanted to hear from Serge, which would explain why he came back up and gave another swing.

This time when Serge moved, he brought his hands from his pocket and grabbed the guy’s wrist. Turning the man around, he pinned his arm behind his back and shoved his face directly into the bar top. His practiced movements were quick and ready for the man’s attack and it proved effective as the man grunted on impact. “My apologies,” He said turning his gaze to Lu, “You will have to clean the counter top again, it looks like he might have drooled.” Than his gaze moved to the blonde who seemed a bit dumbfounded at the thing she had just seen. “Miss?” He questioned giving her a look that can only be described as ‘hello?’ before she mentioned something about the cab arriving shortly.

“Fantastic.” He said as he grabbed the collar of the man’s shirt and yanked him off the bar with relative ease. “I will escort you out.” With that he began to push the man who seemed more stunned than anything else. Things like ‘I thought there was going to be a fight’ and ‘I’m glad that punk is gone, he was starting to piss me off’ along with, ‘Huh, I didn’t know that silent guy was so quick’ began to flutter around the regulars.

It wasn’t very long before Serge returned inside acting as though nothing had happened before he placed himself back in his seat and slid his glasses back onto his face. He left his post… boy the guys were going to give him hell for doing that… You weren’t supposed to leave the side of your client unless asked to but something told him if he didn’t see the punk into the cab, he’d end up being a problem all night. Serge knew he owed Lu an apology for leaving her like that and would deliver it later. After taking a quick drink of water, he opened his book to his marked page and went back to reading.
