Hello!

So I was driving home today and was struck with inspiration for a one on one role play running around this idea based off of a Webcomic -

A young person (we'll call them A) finds themselves face to face with death as they watch someone pass away. Until the moment A realizes someone else (we'll say Z) is in the room with them, someone who hadn't been there before. Z reaches inside the newly deceased person and pulls out a ball of light. It wasn't until the ball of light was in the Z's hand that the two locked eyes and to each other surprised, they could see one another. The Z sprints away and disappears before A can talk to them.

A catches glimpses of Z around town sometimes holding lights and others just walking. Later on A was hanging out in a bar and noticed Z sitting in a corner drinking alone.

I haven't really given any thought to the interaction but later on A ends up in a bad situation and Z shows up revealing that Z is a reaper and are there to take A's soul. A pleads to an exchange and thus they form a contract. The human (A) becomes an assistant to the Reaper (Z) by helping Z convince ghosts that it's time to move on.

Extended ideas

The idea of bringing in warring Angels and Demons has been popular in discussion and is something I thought I'd add here.

Angels and Demons have been at war for centuries and their war on a separate plan of relativity. The more they fight the more causalities they have so it has become highly important that both sides try to convince the reapers to just bring the souls to their side instead of going through judgment. Depending on who the reaper encounters they could get a couple different responses from the Demon/Angel.

• They could attempt to persuade the Reaper.
• They could try to seek pity from a Reaper.
• Attempt to bribe the Reaper.
• Violence is always an option.
  _{Please note that the Reapers cannot die by valiance but they can get severally injured and drastically weakened. Reapers can only die by self-sacrifice , giving up their power for someone/something else and draining themselves or old age when their power is non-existent within their bodies.}

Only Reapers can physically handle and deliver a soul; any Reaper can do it but not everyone has that job.
The reason why most Reapers won't give in to one side or another is - If caught, they will be obliterated. Their existence will end and there's no returning from it.

I was asked to explain how the Reaper Society works and I'm rather proud of what I came up with so I'm sharing it with everyone!

So here's an idea for Reaper Life/History.

When the Angels and Demons were created, alongside them were the Reapers who worked for the Divine Judgment council of 5 wise individuals named: Truth, Justice, Knowledge, Power and Dignity. These beings rely on the Reapers to do their jobs accordingly and bring passed on human souls to them for judgment.

Much like demons and angels who produce their own offspring, Reapers do the same and to insure each Reaper has a job to fulfill their needs they provide a service to the community by: Teaching young reapers the ways of the world, providing daycare to little children while parents are working and things that reflect the human community without the need for currency.

Three of the most important jobs within the community are as follows –
* Judgment Assistants
These people provide assistance to the Divine Judgment individuals including bringing in the souls for judgment and leading them out. Documenting choices. Organizing and detailed paperwork.

* Deliverers
They escort people to their destinations. Some by kindness with a simple lead and conversation while others have to be more forceful and rough depending on the soul’s reaction; no reaper has a set destination, so one can go to heaven and the next day make a delivery to hell.

* Collectors
Reapers that go into the human world to collect souls. It is a hard job because of the need to convince ghosts to pass on along with making sure that Angels and Demons do not interrupt the retrieval and delivery process.

Ever wonder what it would be like to visit heaven? See where the Gods live? Walk fields of beauty and see the homes of the heavens? Well keep wondering human because you’re not going there! As a matter of fact, the Gods are coming to earth.

The king of the heavens has expelled the Gods of the Stars for their own commitment of sins. Each God has committed a sin punishable by banishment until their sin has been absolved. How do they absolve their sins? By learning the error of their ways… and how do they do that? According to the King they will find their answers on Earth and when they do, their markings of sin will fade away than they will return to the heavens.

But! There’s a problem, they can’t use their powers. How will they survive on Earth without them?! That was until they ran into a very special human… you. Only by touching you can the Gods use their powers, and by using their powers they can continue to work.

Forced onto Earth, limiting their powers, making them touch a human and now they’re forced to do their work because they can function while touching you… How will you handle it? How will they handle it?

This Department in the Heavens is dedicated to granting the most powerful wishes for the humans, the wishes that are strongest enough to make it to the heavens are put onto a wish list by the King and it is the department’s job to grant said wishes.

Arrogant, self-absorbed and cocky. He has a way with words and doesn’t like to give off the impression that he actually cares for people but, he does, he's just not good at showing it.

The youngest Director ever appointed in the heavens, the blonde holds a position of power no one had ever seen before and known as the ‘wild lion’ of the heavens, other gods and goddesses tend to fear his overwhelming sense of presence and power. While Curt is a 'nag' he is trustworthy to a fault and is someone Leon respects, though he doesn't openly admit it. The only god in the heavens that can keep his lioness attitude at bay when he explodes would be the King of the Heavens. His job entitles granting the human’s wishes and making sure his crew stays in line.

Calm, cool and collected. Hue is a straight forward to the point speaker with a dry sense of humor and the ability to get away with sarcastic comments because everyone takes what he says and just deals with it.

Hue is also known as the ‘wisest man in the heavens’ because of his ability to see the future and help with situations. He grew up in the heavens and has always had his personal ability. He is the best distiller in the heavens; his ability to create special cocktails to fit people’s personalities makes him a valued member to any party. It’s not uncommon to find Gods and Goddesses drinking his special spirits and enjoying themselves at a party. Hue works hard at his job and enjoys it but his colder sense of humor tends to make him difficult to understand.

A gentleman through and through, he is the embodiment of gentleman like qualities and is a firm believer in treating everyone with respect but he’s not afraid to put people in their place and politely nag Leon into doing his job.

Curt is one of the few gods that enjoys human’s culture. He likes it so much that he would much rather be a human instead of a God. While it takes a lot for a God to die, this is one Dog that doesn’t have a fear of death. He knows it’s going to come and is just waiting for it to happen because he hasn’t had much to live for when it comes down to it. But he doesn’t walk around moping and crying for no reason but he does not look at life in a serious manor and has never had anything important to live for. Instead he enjoys life and continues on until his end… whenever that is. Can someone show him there is something to live for in life and bask in the love of this gentleman?

A true chatter box, Cal loves to talk to anyone and everyone. She tends to draw attention wherever she goes from any gender and loves it. Truly a social butterfly, there isn’t anyone she won’t talk to. But it is a rather big flirt.

Cal grew up with no mother and a father who loved having other women around. There wasn’t too many times in her life when her father would have the same individual over and she grew accustomed to this, under the impression that everyone should love her and only her while she loved everyone around her. Some may translate this into self-centered or egotistical but she never forces anyone into loving her but in her mind, there is nothing wrong with “give me all your love and only me and I will give you my love.” At least she has yet to have someone change her mind on that. The young woman is incredibly social and loves to talk to anyone who’s nearby. She gets along well with Axel from the Department of Punishments and knows his story, feels that his mark is unfair and unjust and protects him like a little brother.

The Department of Punishments was designed to keep humans in line. A list of individuals that need to be punished is made by the king and sent to the department, it is up to the assigned God to decide how the human shall be punished. Humans commonly refer to this department as ‘Karma’.

Proper and by the books, Alexander takes Pride in his position and is a stickler for the rules… when tends to make him rather serious but he has a soft spot and unhealthy obsession for chocolate but has always had a difficult time trusting humans to do the right thing…

Alexander has been around since before Earth and the Heavens were separated, in fact he was one of the last Gods to leave Earth in hopes that the humans would mend their evil ways and outlooks on life. Though he was proven wrong and very scorned by the actions of the past humans, he wasn’t sure if would be the proper person to head the Department of Punishments. However the King of the Heavens was insistent that Alexander take the job, saying no one understands the humans better than him and the only one who could judge them fairly was someone who had faith in them when they least deserved it. Apparently the kind did not see the distaste that he had developed for the humans but that does not stop him from doing his job to perfection.

Unintentionally cold hearted, straight to the point and strict to those under her. Everyone stays in line when she’s around. At least… for the most part.

Scorpio grew up being trained as an assassin. She knew nothing else but murder and bloodshed in order to stay alive. She killed to live and cried every night praying for the Gods to give her a new life. The king of the heavens heard her desperate plea and made her into a Goddess under the condition that, when called upon; she would work exclusively under his rule doing whatever he would ask her to do. No matter the situation at hand and she agreed without hesitation. She was instantly given the position of Vice-Director to the department of punishments and introduced to Alexander; the two built an instant professional connection and began to work in harmony with each other. Scorpio knew no other family than Alexander and looks up to him like a father and he to her as a daughter. Though she finds unnecessarily grand pleasure in her job, she doesn’t take advantage of her skills and her powers. She is a professional, and also the king’s hired help.

Kind-hearted, soft soul who wishes to only do right for people. On the other hand, he suffered from a split personality disorder that shows up at random times (there is an situation that would make this understandable in a role play). This personality is rude, direct, threatening and dangerous.

“God Killer” is the phrase commonly used to describe Axel. His sweet personality hides a dark tale of how he killed his best friend and while the world of the heavens do not know the full story, even Axel has come to believe in their words that he has killed a god. His punishment by the king? To work in the department of punishments until the king sees something else to do with him. Scorpio is entrusted in keeping him in check if he becomes what’s known as ‘Shadow Axel’; though this does happen, it hasn’t in a while. For now he is accepted in the department of punishments as one of their valued employees and admires both Scorpio and Alexander for their hard work and dedication to their jobs. He just hopes one day he can figure out how to atone for his sin, even if it means losing his own life.

Personality

Though his three companions are not royalty, Noctis usually acts as an equal to them. His royal upbringing shines through however, as reflected in his body language, poise, and posture in contrast to his team. Noctis has experienced isolation in his youth, and having a fear of losing those close to him.

Noctis's words and actions often stem from a fear of being unable to meet the expectations of those around him, but as a counterbalance he has a desire to please them. Noctis is a complex character who has dealt with a lot of emotional turmoil as his mother died when he was young and his father had to cater to the demands of the kingdom, leaving Noctis feeling alone. Nevertheless, he is not bitter over it, accepting that sacrifices had to be made.

He is still trying to figure out who he is, and struggles articulating his feelings. He keeps a lot bottled up, especially with confronting how he feels about his childhood friend Luna [or your OC]. He can also be difficult to control and quite rebellious.

Personality

Ignis has a composed, serious, and cool personality to contrast Gladiolus and Prompto. Ignis has been friends with Noctis since early childhood. He received a special education for gifted children to work as a staff officer for Noctis and acts as the understanding consultant for him. He has a different accent from the others.

A more serious and nurturing character, Ignis can be seen as Noctis's right-hand man and the brains of the party. Ignis is loyal to his prince and would do anything for him, and tends to stay near him in battle. Because Noctis lost his mother when he was young, Ignis has filled some of those duties for him, such as trying to make Noctis eat a healthy diet. Though austere and intelligent, Ignis struggles reading people's intentions, especially when something is a joke. He is a perfectionist and tends to lose his composure when things don't go his way.

Ignis is a precise person who dislikes even the slightest ambiguity. Stemming from this, he often goes in-depth in details when explaining strategies. This is why he wears glasses even though his vision is passable without them. Despite his calm and serious personality, he has occasions where he jokes around, such as by making puns or sarcastic comments. He's also prone to gloat.

He takes great pride in his cooking skills, being offended when Prompto states he is looking forward to Iris's (or anyone else's) cooking. Despite this, He isn't particularly keen on cooking, but as a duty to perform, he takes it seriously.

Personality

Gladiolus is a cheerful person, contrasting with his imposing physique. Gladiolus has been a fan of the great outdoors since he was young, and has collected various Coleman camping equipment items. He enjoys fighting, and thus researches techniques and skills.

Gladiolus comes from a family that has always been protectors of the Lucis royal family, and is the only party member with a militaristic background. Not only is he trained to protect Noctis, but he's also his friend. Gladiolus freely expresses his opinions on what's necessary and acts as a pillar in ensuring that the team doesn't sway from their goal. This directness gets him into arguments with Noctis. He holds Noctis to a high standard as the heir apparent, and becomes impatient with him if he doesn't think Noctis is trying hard enough. Their confrontations can escalate to a physical level, Gladiolus grabbing Noctis by the shirt to lecture him, and generally acting in a threatening manner. However, he takes great pride as Noctis's sworn shield and instinctively jumps between Noctis and anyone who tries to harm him. Stemming from this, Gladiolus is blunt when it comes to humor. Gladiolus is confident in his abilities, but at times fears he is not strong enough for the position of the future king's shield.

Noctis the Royal Pain

Noctis’ time in school was never a good one. In fact a lot of people thought of him as snobbish, rude and self-absorbed and this caused a lot of negativity for the young prince. In response he retaliated by becoming exactly what everyone made him out to be and built a shell around the fun loving child he used to be. Can someone break down these stubborn walls?

Teach Me to Cook

As smart as Ignis is, his cooking skills are far from great but his desire to learn never stopped him from trying over and over again. Much to the perfectionist’s displeasure, he prepared more than enough bad meals to seek out help from the local townsfolk. After trying every restaurant in Insomnia, he found the one with the best flavor, unique designs and specialized menus. It was from there that he began to beg the owner/owner’s daughter/chef to teach him how to cook.

As someone who loves the outdoors, Gladio takes a lot of pride in his skills but he does lack a lot book smarts compared to others. However his lack of book smarts has led him to explore campus grounds and even attempt to attend some of the classes, his attempt was in vain due to teaching methods of the professors. He had always been a hands on learner and anything outside of that never stuck. Attracted to intelligence, Gladio always looked out for someone who could teach him new and exciting things; including a bumbling clumsy scientist he found lost in the woods.

Personality & Biography

Sarah is a bubbly, upbeat and happy person who has a passion for Chocobos. Because of this passion she has a bad habit of getting kicked, smacked and knocked around by the wild beats and it should come as no surprise that she’s been thrown off once too many times. It’s not uncommon seeing her limping back to the ranch after locking a feisty Chocobo back into barn.

Her bubbly personality makes her someone who follows her gut and, more or less, it gets her into trouble pretty regularly; sometimes she gets caught where she should be or hurt/bit/pecked/stepped on for doing something she shouldn’t. However nothing can stop this happy person from being… well just that, happy. As for self-defense she has always found guns fascinating but the exploding sound from the gun always frightened the Chocobos, and incidentally frighten herself so she never was able to give it a full try.

Unknown to all except the farm owner; Sarah is homeless without a family to her name and lives in the farm’s loft which the owner deducts the amount of rent from her pay. Her dream it to attend the university in Insomnia and expand her knowledge to help the Chocobos but… it’s more expensive than you’d think!

Personality & Biography

It has been 6 years since the world plunged into eternal darkness. The Capital city of Insomnia crawling countless amounts of demons and the world flooded with either stillness, or the battle cries of hungry demons. There are two choices of a lifestyle in these dark times, either stay in a safe haven and or be part a hunting/gathering party.

Aries chose to take up arms and became a sword wielding hunter specializing in gathering support. Her main job is to help those going to seek supplies or farm locations for materials and keep those individuals safe. Despite her job being rather dangerous and deadly, she finds time to keep her bright spirits and charming demeanor but nothing can replace that fire she gets when it’s time to kill. Some say she was born like that, others say it stems from something more.

When the darkness first took, her parents didn’t really notice and at the age of 22 she watched the hood of her parents car get smashed by a giant stone sword and the large demon rip the top of the car clean off. She escaped but her parents weren’t so lucky. Now she is not afraid to jump headfirst into fights meaning that she is both a reckless and valuable commodity to the keeping the human race alive.
