They wear a scarf that seems to change color/pattern with each ‘day’ of the circus.

Personality: Riff is the resident "grumpy older sibling" of the circus. They project an aura of being completely "done" with everything, using a razor-sharp, dry wit as a defensive shield to keep people at a distance. If you’re looking for someone to sugarcoat the reality of being trapped in a digital hell, Riff is the last person you should ask. Riff is a tired, sarcastic survivalist who acts like a cactus—prickly on the outside to protect a very sensitive, loyal interior. They aren't here to be the 'star of the show' like Cain wants everyone to be; they’re just here to make sure they (and the few people they tolerate) survive the performance with their sanity intact.

Room Appearance: Riff's room is saturated in deep sunset hues—burnt oranges, dusky purples, and muted reds—giving the space a permanent "golden hour" glow that feels heavy and still. The walls are draped in thick, velvet curtains that help dampen the noise from outside.

The furniture is low-profile and oversized, consisting of overstuffed beanbags and floor cushions in dark, solid tones. Scattered throughout are souvenirs from past adventures that hold a sentimental value: oddly shaped rocks, a few pictures, and other small things. Instead of a standard bed, there is a large, circular plush nest filled with weighted blankets and a single, well-worn bird plushie. The lighting is soft and indirect, provided by a few floating, warm-toned lanterns that drift slowly near the ceiling like embers.

avatar quirks:
When they hold their breath, their fluff poofs up, making them look a lot fluffier.
Despite being a plushy, in some moments the tips of his ‘talons’ can be as sharp as the real deal. Blames it on toon logic.
Their eyes can be removed, but it isn't something they like to do often, as it takes time to re-attach them if Cain isn't available to fix his avatar.


bio: Before the circus, [ERROR] was a young adult struggling to navigate the transition into independence. Having recently completed a year of community college, they were no stranger to the weight of responsibility, often feeling as though they were the primary anchor for a large, complicated household. Life was a constant cycle of demanding labor and increasingly high expectations, leaving [ERROR] in a state of chronic exhaustion. They carried the quiet, heavy burden of being the one everyone else leaned on, even when their own foundation felt like it was crumbling under the stress of a world that didn't seem to care.

Much of their memory is now a hazy blur of gray skies, shouting, pain, punctuated by the sharp feeling of never having enough privacy or a space to simply exist. They remember the constant friction of a crowded home and the deep-seated insecurity that came from living in an environment where being "different" felt dangerous. By the time they found the headset, [ERROR] was less a person and more a hollow shell, searching for an exit from a life that felt like an endless, losing battle against burnout and isolation.

other info:
You’ll often catch Riff rubbing the bridge of their beak or squinting like the sun is just a little too bright, even when they're indoors. They seem to carry a lingering sense of exhaustion that no amount of digital sleep can fix. Because of this, they’re usually the first one to complain when Caine gets too "loud" with his magic, and they’ll always advocate for the quietest route possible during an adventure.
Riff is almost never truly still. If they aren’t working on a project, they’re fidgeting—braiding a piece of string, tossing a small pebble, or taking something apart just to put it back together. They seem to think better when their hands are moving, and they have a strange, quiet talent for fixing the small things the others usually just give up on.
Riff uses dry sarcasm like a suit of armor. They aren't necessarily trying to be mean; it’s more like a test to see who is willing to look past the prickly exterior. If you can handle the biting wit and the "I’m done with this" attitude, you’ll find that they are actually one of the most reliable people to have at your back when things start falling apart.
they are easily startled by sudden, loud noises. A surprise "pop" from Caine can make them jump and immediately go on the defensive, showing a high-strung nature that they try very hard to mask behind their "done with this" attitude.
Hobbies: reading (mostly fiction), drawing, cooking.
When particularly stressed, they will look for other things to try focusing on, one of their go-to methods (thanks to their upbringing and OCD) is cleaning or straightening up any sort of 'mess' they see.
