Leval Lamrue

As Leval's strike came down the masked man vanished. Leval's angry countenance took on the shade of pride. 'Just as planned.' In Leval's experience, people tended to think think of his cloak as simple decoration, but that was incorrect the great billowing cloak had another purpose: concealment. And so it was that as he brought his staff down towards empty air, the other side of his staff burst through his cloak, it's sharpened edge slashing against the masked man's face. "Not all illusions are magic." Leval did not waste time seeing his his target had actually been injured but send a blinding light down his staff, temporarily blinding everyone else in the room.

As soon as the masked man regained his vision he would see Leval coming down towards him, a leaping attack with his staff, missing. Leval looked at the fox pulling at his arm, then looked up at Shela, shaking his head no somberly. He looked down at the fox and mouthed "Go." Leval did not want to see the being captured and harmed again. He launched back into motion, this time three Leval's striking forward at the creature. All missed. More and more Leval's filled the space slashing at the being.

The faces on all of the Leval's were frustrated and sweating now. "Stay still damn you!" But still Leval and his illusory copies fought on filling the space. After one final Leval appeared, his expression changed from frustration to a defiant grin. "Now then, I think I will stop bothering to use only 50% of my power." The second closest Leval vanished and another Leval struck forward this time with the weight of reality, missing but slicing of a section of hedge that quickly regenerated. The figure turned illusory again while another Leval struck out in the same manner, and again and again. It was as though all the illusory copies of Leval that occupied the space were real. However, and counter left the feel of only illusions.

The stabs then became unpredictable, some strikes were real while others were false, yet there was no clear way to know until the blows landed. The masked figure still dodged them all, yet the mess of illusory strikes and the sheer output of impossible physical attacks was unpredictable. Leval's smiled. "My lies were clear by design alone. My lies are lies within lies and evermore." Leval could feel his exhaustion growing however, his secondary power of close range teleportation was his trump card. Leval was rapidly teleporting to the exact positions of his duplicates striking forward with his weapon, then immediately teleporting away to another illusory body. Some strikes he teleported around with making one strike seem like it had come from two distinct illusions. 'They are all me. And I am all of them...' Still he was having little effect against the masked being outside of moving him around the arena. Leval pushed himself faster teleporting around the room hitting every spot around, even ones the masked man did not appear to be standing in, until the very last safe spot in the room from all of the strikes pouring around was directly under Shela. At that point Shela heard Leval's voice next to eat shout, "Now!"

FLASHBACK
Leval blinded the rest of the room as he struck the masked man, the retracted his staff at the speed of thought. He concealed it with a weave then extended the invisible staff to reach into Shela's hands. As soon as Shela grabbed the staff it retracted into her grasp, Leval drew a short knife from one of pockets, covering it in the illusion of it being his staff as he leapt forward at the masked man as his vision cleared. The fight below raged on as several illusory Leval's struck forward, but Shela would only hear Leval's voice by her ear soft enough so only she could hear it.
"Shela, I need your help. The only way I can win this fight is with your help. I need you to point the staff, the sharp point facing the earth, directly downwards and when I tell you when I need you to shout 'Extend!' I know this is a scary situation, but I know you can do this. People are not defined by their past Shela and right now you can choose to be a hero. You've never needed powers to do that.I need your help Shela, you are the only one who can save me." The fight continued below coming to an end.

Shela would feel the gentle touch of an adult woman's hand on her left shoulder and a man's hand on her right. The voices of her Mother and Father would sound in her head."We love you Shela, and we believe in you every second of every day." As her parents voices faded Shela would hear Leval's voice shout "Now!"

Leval examined the scene eyes flashing from Shela's face to the injured Kitsune and back to the masked man. Leval bent down and removed his shoes. With two quick slashes from his staff, he cut off the rubber soles from his shoes. He held both pieces of rubber in his hands and grabbed the collar around the fox's neck. Ash and Cinder, sensing his intentions fluttered out of Leval's cloak and rested upon the injured foxes body, glowing slightly. Slowly the burn mark around the foxes neck began to heal themselves. Leval began to pull at the collar, attempting to snap the piece. Sparks flew off of the collar as it attempted to electrocute him but the rubber soles did their part in protecting his arms. At least for now. He pulled until he felt the piece snap between his hands and dropped the collar unceremoniously to the ground. He moved in front of the injured fox. Shela would hear a whisper only she could hear, "Stay calm I am coming to get you."

"Drop the illusion creature. I am no fool for you to prey upon. All your doing is feeding off a young girl's fears." Leval looked furious, mouth twisted in wrath. He spat out more words at the creature."Do you think I entered this maze not knowing what lay within?I know of Isabella and the seal placed upon this Kitsune and I have come to free them both! This pitiable seal stands no chance against the might of my magical power!" Leval pulled his staff out and his eyes began to glow with bright purple power fully enveloping his pupils. Tendrils of thread erupted of his back, shifting color and appearance and there was movement under the skin of Leval's face as something writhed as if trying to break free of this flesh mask. "I will tell you what will happen next. You will drop the girl. You will fight me. And you will be destroyed utterly." His voice grew more and more inhuman with every sentence as waves of dark power began to pulse out around sending dark ripples through the grass around him.

At which point the real Leval, having snuck around to the other side masking his presence with a different weave, raised his staff over his head and swung his staff down with all his might at masked man wrists. The glowing powerful looking Leval that had been speaking before vanished in a puff of threads and lies.
@The One Is it alright to assume that this post I can at least get the masked man to drop Shela, no additional damage?

Leval followed the fox down the maze at a run, keeping pace with it. 'When did Shela enter the maze? And why? Was she following me!? Oh god, if she's hurt I'll ...I'll...' Leval struggled to complete the thought, but was quite uncertain what he would do exactly. He just knew that he had to get to the girl quickly and make sure she was safe. Still he was worried about Ceres, Kuro and his pet, and any of the other students that might have winded up in this maze. When the opening of the wall appeared Leval briefly glanced at it before following the fox. 'Just wait everyone, I am coming.'
@The One Aw dang nabbit there goes plan : Teach Shela to fight for herself- now something bad is going to happen lol
@The One Is it alright to assume I will wind up next to Shela?

Leval signed as he watched the exit close in front of him. The fox had done an excellent job of keeping him close and guiding him to this spot, but it had seemed confidant that it's task had been finished. Now it turned in another direction , seeming to look for another exit away out of the maze. "Well thank you for trying anyway. It is kind of you to do so. Would you happen to know where my friend Ceres is? She has white hair and probably smells like ash. I came in here trying to find her, she seems to have crash landed. Is it possible?" Just then Leval heard a voice in his head cut off by a horrific demonic shriek. Cold sweat began to roll down his back as he felt the chill of fear pierce through his body. His steps faltered somewhat, caught off guard by the sudden contact and its abrupt end. .Prince Kuro's pet? How many other's are trapped in this maze?' Leval's eyes widened with fear and surprise. 'What if all of the others that came to join me are trapped in here too? Wandering around this maze with no way out and something... evil hidden in the walls.' Leval noticeably shuddered before turning once more to face his guide. "Please, take me to the others."
@Ojo chan 42 There is a castle now? I am growing more and more fascinated with what it is that you do! lol
@The One @PharaohAtem Gotcha- idea received.

Leval was surprised that so many people had decided to join him, though they seemed to lack his own enthusiasm for all things puzzle related. Leval was accepting of everyone who wanted to come through the maze with him, nodding to all who asked him. @Akirashadow Irvine seemed to be suspicious of him for one reason or another claiming that he knew something that the others did not. Leval was about to laugh at the comment and explain the situation when a scent wafted past his nose. @Ojo chan 42 A scent of ash and newly burned leaves distracted his attention away from Irvine. Leval turned looking slightly up. While every magic users perception of powerful magic was different, Leval had always seen threads. Floating in the air was thin strand of ash grey magic, heavily interwoven with black. As Leval watched, the black sections of the strand seemed to expand slowly. 'Something's going on- black is the color of dark arts and curses. Is Ceres in trouble?'

Leval began to run forward, calling out at the rest of the group over his shoulder. "Hey I have to check something out I will be right ba-" Leval did not finish the thought as the earth began to quake heavily around him. Leval lost his balance at the unexpected motion falling forward to his hands and knees. He rolled over to his back and saw the hedge close up around him. He was trapped and alone in a new part of the maze. "Damnit, there goes my afternoon!" He felt a reassuring flutter of wings under his cloak. He relaxed a bit, happy to realize that he was not quite as alone as he might seem.

Leval turned and saw the spirit like fox, gently swaying its three tales as it watched him. When it had seen that Leval had noticed it, the fox rose and moved eastward, stopping briefly to look back at him. Leval hesitated uncertain of what to do. The lore on multi tailed foxes varied wildly from source to source some seeing them as tricksters (which had been why Leval had been interested in them in the first place) and others seeing them as wise guardian spirits. Which one was true was entirely subjective to Leval, it was entirely possible that this was an illusion. Even Leval could put up very similar conditions to this one. Leval touched a leaf from the hedge, concentrating on the texture looking for any telltale signs of falsehood less skilled illusionists tended to leave.

@The One Regardless of whether his probe turned up anything or not. Leval placed his hand on the right wall and moved through the maze going eastwards after the fox.
