Baseline theory, the relays are damaged or manipulated to allow our unwanted visitor to enter...or one of the anomalous events happened and they took advantage. As much as I hate to admit, the latter seems more plausible, but I think this event was due to the messing of the few of the relays. A system I deemed as a massive point of failure and extremely vulnerable. In my honest opinion.

I never found them. Why did they make them?

These grates lead into behind the scene electrical and mechanical back rooms that lead throughout the lab. That's why it looks so clean and proper! I found them and use them as they are handy in trying to get into other rooms or testing faults with systems in other parts of the lab.
