The reason for that is simple. It's called PC immunity.

Machina characters being emotional in any way or manner are one of the reasons why they keep losing.
Makes you wonder why Eos lets the respawning soldiers who need her stuff to respawn have emotions in the first place. because if that's the sole reason they lose then she should just give them all lobotomies in he name of efficiency and then everything else would be a piece of cake

Had to admit, was surprised to see Bonesword actively helping the demon with Bastion, especially considering it's, you know, a demon. They never do stuff out of the goodness of their hearts.
