@User Duly noted, thanks!

@BurningCold Thanks for the praise! I promise, I'm just winging it as we go along (except for the overall story -- that I've had planned for a while, and will remain a secret).

You're spot on with weaponry, it won't have changed much in the roughly one hundred years between present day and the events of this RP. I don't have anything in mind, so any suggestions for futuristic (but realistic) weaponry would be appreciated from anyone.

When I create the OOC, I'm going to leave it open for a couple days to let everyone make their CSs, before I start the IC. At that point, I'll open up the NPC Character Sheets for everyone to make, while still accepting new characters as they come. Meanwhile, the IC will just have started. After about a day of that, the RP will be closed for new applicants who wish to have unique characters (unless they give me a really stunning character sheet and a good excuse as to how their character showed up. However, new players will still be able to select an NPC to take over. I'm personally fine with the current number of players provided everyone sticks around, but I'm not opposed to someone new jumping in -- as long as they're okay with selecting a pre-made character.

Provided this ends up being successful, I will be doing two more Acts in this series -- which means a new Interest Check, along with a new opportunity for people to join.

Also, I live on the east coast of the United States (New Hampshire, if you care or can even locate it on a map). That also means I use Eastern Standard Time (EST).

Something came up today that required most of my time, so I won't be able to post the OOC tonight -- I'll be doing it tomorrow. HOWEVER, in a few minutes I'm going to post the Character Sheet, which anyone is free to complete or just start tinkering around with for their primary character until the OOC comes out tomorrow.
I'm not positive, but I believe you can make multiple threads in the Gallery, if each thread is a distinct story separate from the others.

Also, thank you! I'm looking forward to checking out your stories once they're written!
Welcome to the site! Let me know if you ever need a hand figuring it all out.

Since I'm at a loss for an emoji which would best suit the end of the prior sentence, I will leave you with this dancing banana.
@BurningCold Lots of questions! Awesome. The more people ask, the more incentive I have to flesh out literally every aspect of the universe

Alright, for post length I'd say a paragraph at a minimum for each post, but I'm really looking for quality and depth. I'd much rather one concise, developed paragraph to ten rambling ones with excess everything and needless small talk. However, I encourage everyone to write as much as they wish. As for frequency, a few times a week, maybe. The general rule that I've stuck by is don't have other people waiting on your post for longer than a day or two, and wait for at least two posts before making another one (I.e. You post, then RPer 1 posts, then RPer2 posts, then You post. Of course, occasional exceptions are fine).

In terms of cybernetics, humanity will have developed them to an extent, though not to the point where people have become more machine than they are man. The universe of Event Horizon is nowhere near the level of, say, the universe in Deus Ex. Cybernetic appendages are fine (rudimentary versions of these have been developed in the present day), so are mechanical tendons and muscle (in instances where an individual had, say, a crippling leg injury which prevented them from walking, but they still physically have their leg). In general, "physical" replacements and enhancements are fine -- things that allow folks to continue functioning -- while super high-tech things like cyborg eyes and, like, built in hacking features are nowhere near developed yet. As is, all cybernetic enhancements are still wildly expensive, meaning if someone has them, it's either because they need it (like they lost their hand) or they're super wealthy (and wanted to enhance their running abilities, or something).

I'll try not to spoil much by answering this next question. Let me just say that, should you choose to play as, say, the Pilot of the ship bringing the expedition to the Willman Laboratory, you aren't just going to be flying back to Earth. Everyone on board that ship, including the crew, will be integral to the story -- and the bulk of Act 1 will take place exclusively in the settlement which includes the Lab.

As for multiple characters, I've been thinking a lot about this, and I may have come up with a rather unorthodox solution. It might not work. If it does work, however, it'd be pretty cool. So, anyone is entitled to however many characters they'd like, as long as they pledge to give 100% to every single character (meaning, if you choose to have three characters, I'm expecting three paragraphs per post and have all of them be actively involved in the story). However, most people won't want to do that, as it'd be rather time consuming. So, when I create the OOC and put up the character sheet, I'll invite anyone (especially the people who have expressed interest here, because you guys are the only reason this thing is getting off the ground in the first place) to create Character Sheets for the NPCs. So say you make your character, who happens to be, like, a soldier on board the ship. However you also make the CS for the Doctor and the Mechanical Engineer. Then, when your initial character dies (and odds are, they will -- there will be a lot of death in this RP), you're free to pick up one of the characters that you helped make. In the mean time, while you're playing your first character, I'll be fully in charge for all the NPCs. Think of me as, like, the banker. All of the NPCs will be in my "bank" during the course of the roleplay, and you can choose to "withdraw" one to play as at any time, should your character die or if you wish to play as two characters. During that time, though, I can and will be killing off characters and developing them of my own accord until you choose to pick them up, and when that happens you become the person totally in control of them.

Does that make sense, or was I just rambling?

EDIT: @The1Rolling1Boy Thanks to you and BurningCold expressing interest, i'll be putting up the OOC today. The IC will go up as soon as everyone has their main Character Sheets up, so in a couple days (hopefully).

Welcome back! Hopefully things aren't too different from when you left. The site has stayed pretty much the same, just a couple new sections here and there -- oh, and it looks a whole lot better.
Hi Mangrale, welcome to the site! Don't worry about rambling, it happens to the best of us. The site is pretty straightforward for the most part, but let me know if you need a hand figuring anything out, or just want to talk!
@User Good call -- I may create the OOC a bit earlier than I had originally wanted to to try and attract more people. I am hesitant about putting up the IC early though, mainly because all of the characters have to be present on the ship at the beginning, and once the ball starts rolling there won't be any way to add new people (unless they want to take over an NPC).

@Starlance Absolutely. Especially medicine & communication. I know it seems strange to say since there's an entire squad of soldiers going along with the expedition, but I definitely wouldn't call this a "military RP".

Basically, the reason that the crewlist is so wonky (it includes soldiers, a scientist, a doctor, and a government official among others) is because the GC has no idea what's going on at the Willman Laboratory. No other colony has ever lost contact so suddenly and completely before, and it is especially concerning because this is the furthest human outpost in the universe. The GC is essentially throwing a handful of specialists at the situation and seeing what sticks.
Just as another update, I've added a little bit to the "Politics" tab under Lore, including a brief history and explanation of how the political blocs are set up and checked by international entities. Still in the works, but almost done, are: A description of the spacefaring technology (primarily the ship types developed, as well as their uses and limitations); full histories of the various political powers, and a timeline of events from present day to the current date of Event Horizon.

Let me know what you think!
@Starlance There's definitely room! Like @User said, I'm looking for one more person at a minimum before I start this up.
Just made an update to the original post to include a new concept, which will come into play just before the start of the IC: Depending on who your character is, your briefing of the situation may be either different or more extensive than others. Meaning that if you're say, a scientist, you may be told a bit more (or just different information) than that of a soldier. Every character will be going in with slightly different expectations, and perhaps slightly different objectives upon their arrival at the Willman Laboratory. After the Character Sheets are made and your characters are accepted, I'll be PMing each of you a dossier which will tell your character everything which the expedition deems pertinent for you in order to successfully investigate. It's up to your character whether or not to share some or all of this information with other characters.
