Current 10+ years of an RP idea, finally finished, on 10.10.2025. Goodnight Raven Squad, you were the best, wildest, most silly near future SOF RP that lived on the guild, and you got a worthy send off :)

Bio

I've RP'd for the best part of over 15 years now here on the Guild, and particularly like military settings, both contemporary, past and near future. I have even dabbled in a little more experimental RPs, as well as created a plethora of 1x1s over my time in the guild. I like creating RPs with a distinct flavour- and often shift between narrative-led RPs to semi-randomised plots. I've been more a GM lately than a player, and don't really lean into fandom- instead, exploring my own universes lifting themes from other source material.

My main interests are military-themed, near-future RPs, with a focus on technology. But I'm beginning to push what that RP idea looks like- taking inspiration from lots of media and focussing on the fun, indulgent side of RP, whilst also exploring the lows and emotional side.

Raven Squad is a project over seven years in the making, and focusses on a class-based, eccentric yet half-grounded near future special forces team that acts as a response team where you can't send any special forces team in. It's incredibly dumb, incredibly loose, and yet, has delivered some of my favourite plot points in RPG. A brainless action flick a la John Wick and Kingsman meets a complex thriller with a fun left turn in it, Raven has been the culmination of over a decade of loving special forces RPG, gaming influences and other silliness in a package that has provided players with something quite different to a normal military themed RPG. While at an end, this is an RP that is a signature- it's silly as hell, takes itself barely seriously, and is what peak fun military RPG to me should be.

Delta Hyper is a love letter to Wipeout, F1's Drive to Survive (Netflix) and contemporary Formula One, with influences from solarpunk, cyberpunk, transhumanism and other posthumanist concepts. An RP that follows pilots in their ups and downs, it's a story that hasn't got me playing an actual character, but framing the camera at each pilot (played by others), and presenting it as if it were a documentary. Lifting elements from TTRPG, this is a Racing RPG like no other and no parallel exists- using dice rolls and randomisation, with a stats-driven system to generate race results, rather than actually RPing the races, players experience the fast-paced, dynamic world of anti-gravity racing. This means that come Qualifying and Race, the results are genuinely a surprise to everyone- and based on decisions made through dilemmas and decisions made between races. Friendships, rivalry, the glamour and even a little political undertone play out in 2094, in a colourful, utopian future that focuses on the fight to take first place.

Then there's Tactical Breach Wizards: Fireteam Hex. First use of any set IP as a formal setting, this is an RP that offers a darker mirror to Raven Squad, focussing on the other side of the equation- unlikely heroes in an uncomfortable position. I don't normally do fantasy, but the world, the lore, the feeling of the characters and the ability to write a comedy just was too difficult to pass up. An RP that focuses on a group running away from a variety of threats as wanted mercenary wizards in the middle of a post-revolution, Eastern-Europe adjacent 1990s to present Polavia.

Lastly, Dispatch: Heroes of Claremont. This is another IP-adjacent world, albeit drawing on a different setting and a new cast of superheroes. As my "first" proper superhero RP, this combines workplace comedy, a Storyteller-lite system and a fun, diverse, and large cast together in a dynamic, diverse setting.

I'm pretty flexible and try and get back to people on ideas and responses, but sometimes, I may become very busy and it will take some time till I am un-busy. I aim to clear posts within a week!

Backdrifts.... In 2041, the Prospect Horizon sits as the largest human-placed space station in orbit around the Earth. It has been there for the last four years, and houses a population of almost 300 scientists, technicians, astronauts and engineers, being comprised of the very best of humanity's achievements. It's a scientific station, but no less, has been put there for a good reason. In 2042, it is set to be the launch site for a return human mission to Mars, and has provided a huge volume of data of a community living in space. It has a strong future, and modules are being sent up, from countries such as Brazil, India, the ESA, NASA and Russian Space Agencies. It's an international hub, one that perhaps has proven to be the most unifying thing in humanity's history. A golden light in the sky, that shows what co-operation and a huge joint venture can do. While below the Prospect Horizon, the Earth still has a multitude of problems, the Prospect Horizon is a light to the future, to the next step in the human race's survival. On the 5th of September, 2041, catastrophe struck the Prospect Horizon. The fragile station suddenly exploded, with explosions of the Hydrogen fuel detonating in almost each module of the station, with almost all crew killed instantly. The Solar Panels, as well as the Hydrolysis systems, power and all sources of structural integrity went out the window, and this was the end of that shining light, the future salvation that many saw above as being vaporized in a matter of seconds. All crew, lost. Almost. This RP will be set among the lucky handful, the group that happened to be wearing EVA Suits while they headed out for a simple engineering task, on the other side of The Greenhouse, Habitation. The stricken station has bits of it falling out of orbit, whilst other parts are simply shells- other sections still have useful segments to it left, and potentially, tiny areas where there remarkably is pressure. Because of it, quite literally, they may be the only survivors left, and they aren't going to survive very long if they wait around for rescue- if it's even coming from any station that exists. One of the team has a severely damaged spacesuit, and it is unknown if there are any parts of the Prospect Horizon that are still pressured, since oxygen levels are dipping. It's unknown if there's top-ups of oxygen that are still functional, if there's anyone else that survived, or even if there's any rescue coming. Radio comms are down. The survivors have three hours of oxygen, even if it is en route. Worst, they don't know if there any escape pods intact, and even so...will everyone out of the group survive when they find them? --------------- CS Sheet (Post in Characters please) Name: Gender: Age: Appearance (Your character will be wearing an EVA suit for the majority of this RP, but no less, flesh it out if you like. Includes any personal touches to their suit.) Job (Why are they on the walk?) Brief Background: A paragraph or two will suffice. From a veteran to a fresh face, anything is good. Special Equipment: (From a Thruster Pack, to a Drill, to anything that your character brought for the EVA maintenance work.)
It might work- give it a shot, it's inventive, that's for sure. It'd be cool to see. I like this first op. Definitely gives a berth on insertions- I mean, diving, or Zodiacs come into play, even HALO onto a ship like this....some SF operators are capable, in calm waters believe it or not.
OOC to be going up shortly. I'll accept a couple more. I do have an interesting mechanic in this RP. You quit this RP, you die, in front of all of us. Whether you choose to see it or not, is your choice. I don't care about post order suprisingly enough- someone needs to post every two to three days, with anyone able to post in that threshold (no double posts)- just make sure a mention of it goes into the OOC- this might work better to keep this mechanic that I formerly mentioned running, and I'll kill that character off later on (the one that missed the post that is).
Clever, but sometimes, just structure it so that we kinda have to something. I wouldn't mind a Team Leader, perhaps being a grizzled vet. You don't have to do maps- just flesh it out with words, we'll understand the environment well enough. Do it if it's easier on you- but I tend to say vaguely what it looks like, and go from there. I like your insertion methods- there's many more I could add to that list, but I'll leave it. In particular, I want to maybe return a Polish GROM character I have....who hates Russians. :D

The survivors have three hours of oxygen, even if it is en route. Worst, they don't know if there any escape pods intact, and even so...will everyone out of the group survive when they find them? --------------------------------- This is an RP that will definitely be a little more realistic, and be more about survival, than any other factor. Whilst set almost 30 years into the future, it will not have a massive Sci-Fi influence- whilst 3D Printers and a little more advanced technology than today can be seen aboard the Prospect Horizon, it matters little in terms of oxygen or supply. It takes some influence from Gravity (a film I am yet to see), as well the upcoming game, Adrift, as well as my own original ideas. The characters will predominantly be nobody that has fought to survive, yet are merely lucky to be out on the Engineering shift at this time- being characters that could be anything from tech-trained Scientists, to career Engineers aboard the Prospect Horizon. As I mentioned, it will be quite a harsh RP, and you'll see some quite horrible decisions to be made- one of the team has a damaged suit, whilst others may be not so skilled in dealing with zero-G. The RP will take place over four to six hours aboard the remnants of the station, kicking off with a bang right at the start- giving a highly concentrated feeling to the RP, being almost continuous. I'd want at least four people initially to make this RP run- anyone that joins and leaves immediately after, don't worry- your characters will die a fitting death, so anyone that gives up on this RP after signing up and posting in- I'm sure to RP that death too :D We can run at less, but at the end, I cannot say for certain if all the characters will indeed, survive the ordeal. Any takers?
I'm interested. Played a few military RPs before, I've run them too, that is for sure. I know the kit, the people, the politics and a lot of it quite well, I'm in.
Ross took it carefully, and was going about 15mph, as the rear wing inflated, seeing Carl run behind. Just as he jumped in, he hit the gas, and the engine responded, with a certain rush, almost rushing forward, as Ross looked down at in front of the seat. "They fitted NOS....the fuck is this, Too Fast Too Furious?" Ross asked, chuckling as he breathed hard, out of breath and his visor fogging up slightly. The dirt plateau surrounding the abandoned house was short, but it'd be enough. Or else they'd be barreling over the edge of a cliff at 70mph, and most certainly die. He let go of the wheel, aware that there wasn't any more point. The black canopy was fully inflated, and the propeller was spinning fully, as he switched over to it, looking over. "Here we go!" Ross pulled the toggles above the ALSV, grabbing hard as the steering wheel became pointless, the whole craft shaking and almost feeling like it'd come to crash, if it wasn't for the massive canopy above. And it somehow took flight, the whole weight eased off, as Ross pulled them hard, flaring back as the canopy caught wind and the propeller kicked in full sale, bringing them up as Ross built up the Flying Devil, Mark 3's speed. This thing was awesome- there was literally nothing like it, no matter how much paraglider training he got. The Flying Devil was airborne. Turning, the buggy shook a little as the canopy came to the left, as Ross lay his Mk48 on the dash, nestling the weapon on his groinplate- suprisingly comfortable, considering he had at least a couple of inches of kevlar between him and the buttstock of his GPMG. "Checking the GPS now. We're ten kilometers out, this thing won't get picked up on radar. It's too insignificant- I wouldn't say stealthed out, but that canopy looks like it's made out of some seriously stealthy looking material." Ross said, chuckling, as he keyed in the position, getting an approach vector in, as he looked up at Carl, and then out the side, the airborne feeling still rampant, even though he knew he was wearing a Juggernaut suit- at least 50kg of kit, if not more. This was mental- this never let up, this job. They were flying right into a hostage situation with a buggy come paraglider, and would save the SEALs. It seemed that they were in the big leagues with the Devil now. First, Hostages at the mine. Now, Navy Seals over the mine. Ross couldn't help but think that this was what their job could become- and if it meant getting the British Prime Minister out of a sticky situation, then so be it, if this escalation contuined. He doubted it. Setting up the GPS with his gloved hand, he adjusted his arm's armor, and engaged his quad NVG set, smirking as he looked over at the valley below, now coming shrowded in fog. "Like a bump in the night for these poor bastards. Taking Seals. It isn't on. We're taking them back, and damn, I'm going to have fun dive bombing them." Ross said, looking out as he continued their course, south towards the town, high above the valley floor that they sat over, somewhat concealed by the fog.
Victoria chuckled, looking over to the group, as she could only laugh. "Yeah, I guess so. But till then, I'm the best you have. And damn, if it isn't fun. Being a woman in a man's world can be hard, but if you have the capabilities, nobody doubts you. Perhaps one day I will have some children, but that isn't my role right now. Right now, I'm a good lady who happens to be very effective at killing those British and American bastards." Victoria said, looking to Jakub. "Anyway, you're just as foreign as I am, we could use flying Norwegians too." She added simply, smiling as she looked over to Rudolph, before heading back into their billet. Victoria let him shut the door behind, and stripped down, dropping her tight infiltration suit, to reveal her bare skin. The door shut, she turned. "I said back when we were in the sea, I wanted an hour's of time with you. I guess I have it." She said, cackling as the scene faded to black. --- Operation Zeitgeist- H-Hour -1 29th November, 1943 0600 Hours Somewhere off the northern coast of Iceland The U-Boat had become a home for this unit of the 505th, and over the last few hours, not much had occured. There was one distinctive objective- Akureyri, a hub point for US and British troop remmenants on Iceland, an unexpected invasion route. But of course, they never learned. They would never go head on, on the south-western coast. Already, there were Fallschirmjager units in the air, willing to drop into the town. They would secure the harbour and the whole of the Kreigsmarine would go the long way around, bringing in the Armored and Mechanized units to the harbour, which wasn't the 505th's objective. They were to sweep the densest of enemy positions- the city centre, before moving out with an airdropped Sd.Kfz. 251 Hanomag Halftrack- modified to the 505th's standards. Of course, Tyrant had made sure that any equipment of that type would be perfection, it would be elite. So they fitted a 20mm Autocannon to it and uprmored it of course, and toughened up the suspension to accomodate almost four tons worth of dead-weight. He hadn't thought of a name for it, but it wasn't going to be called a Schmetterling, that was for sure. The whole of the team sat in the armory, the door sealed, suited up. It was an apt occasion, as Tyrant knew that this was going to be a war and a half. Swordfish and Vampire sat in their suits also, checking their MG42 and Flamethrowers respectively. He looked to the group, using the microphone on his suit. "Okay, the plan is simple. After we seize the center of the town and receive the Fallschirmjager to widen the fist that we made in the Allied Northern Defense, we'll hitch a ride on the airdropped Hanomag, and head south, towards a place called Nyvatn, about 10km and up a mountain, overlooking the town. It's a dam that they constructed two years ago, and acts as a electricity supply, with both hydroelectric and experimental geothermal operating there. The point being, we're going in to destroy it- no doubt they will guard it well, in the case that it fell into enemy hands. No matter. They use it to supply almost over a third of Iceland's electricity supplies, and since we look like we're going to have the coldest winter in decades on the island, if the Allies lose it, they will freeze. There is a problem, however. 2km south of the dam, upriver of the Graena River, lies Katla- a volcano, of sorts. Now, I have received a message from the Lufftwaffe's Meteorologists, and it seems that reconnaissance flights over the Vatnajokull Glacier suggests that there is an awful lot of smoke, more than just fog. We are working in a hazardous environment, men. These volcanoes do not go off regularly, but an eruption will be far more than smoke when it goes up." He said, checking the MPX, keeping the large 40mm weapon unloaded, for now at least. "And I am sure that all the armor in the world will not stop Hades own breath from engulfing you. For now, we're using a submersible to move in. We've got it docked up- I'll be following behind, using buoyancy equipment. We've got at least four kilometers to head into enemy territory- we'll deploy at the end of the fjord, and avoid the main harbour area, and hit the town. Civilians aren't going to be in a town like this- they've likely been mostly evacuated, so whoever we are up against, you are good to kill." Tyrant added, checking the bolt, as he looked around. "Swordfish will deal with the explosives at the power plant, and Viking will assist if need be. Sturm Adler, Vampire, you do what you do best- offer up a front of fire, I'll be their main attraction. Any tanks, we'll use either Viking or Sturm Adler's anti-tank equipment to dispose of- Viking will have more maneuverability than those hulking beasts, though remember that I don't. It will be a cold fight, men. No doubt, at least -25." Tyrant spoke once more, as Vampire chuckled, before he put his visor down. "Good. I feel warm enough." He said, putting the metal faceplate down, the red paint with a pair of white teeth on it just making it ever so much his. He had an oxygen supply connected up for the journey- he'd use a supply that was inbuilt into the submersible, with himself, Viking and Sturm Adler sitting inside, whilst Swordfish and Tyrant would be outside, holding on with their own supplies. It was going to be one hell of a journey, no doubt- and Tyrant knew that this was one interesting way to be inserted. Opening the airlock hatch, he moved through with Swordfish, aware that they were first out- followed by Viking, Sturm Adler and Vampire, who'd be getting outside momentarily, to drop straight into the underwater propulsion craft.
I hope so- I have set the scene for a moderate post for everyone, we've got a few more to go...
No probs- do what you can. I've set it up in a manner between Andrew's quite spewing yelling and them boarding the helicopter, you can talk to other characters whilst arming up.
