Current 10+ years of an RP idea, finally finished, on 10.10.2025. Goodnight Raven Squad, you were the best, wildest, most silly near future SOF RP that lived on the guild, and you got a worthy send off :)

Bio

I've RP'd for the best part of over 15 years now here on the Guild, and particularly like military settings, both contemporary, past and near future. I have even dabbled in a little more experimental RPs, as well as created a plethora of 1x1s over my time in the guild. I like creating RPs with a distinct flavour- and often shift between narrative-led RPs to semi-randomised plots. I've been more a GM lately than a player, and don't really lean into fandom- instead, exploring my own universes lifting themes from other source material.

My main interests are military-themed, near-future RPs, with a focus on technology. But I'm beginning to push what that RP idea looks like- taking inspiration from lots of media and focussing on the fun, indulgent side of RP, whilst also exploring the lows and emotional side.

Raven Squad is a project over seven years in the making, and focusses on a class-based, eccentric yet half-grounded near future special forces team that acts as a response team where you can't send any special forces team in. It's incredibly dumb, incredibly loose, and yet, has delivered some of my favourite plot points in RPG. A brainless action flick a la John Wick and Kingsman meets a complex thriller with a fun left turn in it, Raven has been the culmination of over a decade of loving special forces RPG, gaming influences and other silliness in a package that has provided players with something quite different to a normal military themed RPG. While at an end, this is an RP that is a signature- it's silly as hell, takes itself barely seriously, and is what peak fun military RPG to me should be.

Delta Hyper is a love letter to Wipeout, F1's Drive to Survive (Netflix) and contemporary Formula One, with influences from solarpunk, cyberpunk, transhumanism and other posthumanist concepts. An RP that follows pilots in their ups and downs, it's a story that hasn't got me playing an actual character, but framing the camera at each pilot (played by others), and presenting it as if it were a documentary. Lifting elements from TTRPG, this is a Racing RPG like no other and no parallel exists- using dice rolls and randomisation, with a stats-driven system to generate race results, rather than actually RPing the races, players experience the fast-paced, dynamic world of anti-gravity racing. This means that come Qualifying and Race, the results are genuinely a surprise to everyone- and based on decisions made through dilemmas and decisions made between races. Friendships, rivalry, the glamour and even a little political undertone play out in 2094, in a colourful, utopian future that focuses on the fight to take first place.

Then there's Tactical Breach Wizards: Fireteam Hex. First use of any set IP as a formal setting, this is an RP that offers a darker mirror to Raven Squad, focussing on the other side of the equation- unlikely heroes in an uncomfortable position. I don't normally do fantasy, but the world, the lore, the feeling of the characters and the ability to write a comedy just was too difficult to pass up. An RP that focuses on a group running away from a variety of threats as wanted mercenary wizards in the middle of a post-revolution, Eastern-Europe adjacent 1990s to present Polavia.

Lastly, Dispatch: Heroes of Claremont. This is another IP-adjacent world, albeit drawing on a different setting and a new cast of superheroes. As my "first" proper superhero RP, this combines workplace comedy, a Storyteller-lite system and a fun, diverse, and large cast together in a dynamic, diverse setting.

I'm pretty flexible and try and get back to people on ideas and responses, but sometimes, I may become very busy and it will take some time till I am un-busy. I aim to clear posts within a week!

Jan moved forwards, moving into cover behind another tree stump, laying down fire on soldiers as Zhenya moved, and "Shit! BMD-1, coming from our right! Range, about 200m, closing fast! That is not VDV, that's a BMD-1!" Jan yelled, aware that this was a shitty little BMD-1, a light IFV of sorts with a 76mm gun and a Matyluka ATGM launcher. It was ancient tech, but it had to be taken out, and probably was a mover out of their sight. "Scott, prep the Carl G, light that fucker up!" Jan yelled, as he shot a man that was armed with a PKM cleanly with a burst, then reloading the 416, throwing a new PMAG into the weapon as he gave it a confident cock. They continued on laying down fire down the hill, as Zhenya set in, Jan keeping his head down as the RPD chucked out rounds, and the last remaining few at the guardpost were dead. The BMD was all that was left, and the infantry aboard now laying down rounds into the snow from afar. The radio suddenly buzzed, after the fight died, as Jan felt it was on his long range. Command. "This is Col Sanderson, Lima Actual, you are to halt right there. VDV and Spetsnaz forces are coming en masse, you're to desist and back off the target. Spetsnaz Vympel forces have seized the command centre." He heard, as Jan looked over, at the anarchy, the distant sight of parachutes and transport planes somehow sickening. This was fucked. Yet Jan felt that there were still men left. The fighting had died? How? Jan didn't understand, there were still militants last time they checked, and the fire hadn't hit the command centre...and yet the area had been teeming last time that Jan had looked. "Sanderson, you sure? We're almost to target, we're closing.." "Negative, you are to desist with immediate effect, Captain. You are to fall back over the ridge and await extraction." Sanderson said, as Jan looked around. They'd done the job. No more hostiles. There were soldiers on the ground, and somehow, Jan felt betrayed. This wasn't right. Something was fucked. Medved was nowhere in sight, and Jan knew that Zhenya had something to do with it, or at least part of something. Why were they stopping? That he didn't get. He had to abide his rules, and knew full well what was going on. Right now, they had to leave. Maybe there "This is bullshit, Colonel.." "Orders are orders, Captain. The Russians want your team removed right now. Do I make myself clear?" Sanderson said, as Jan swore, moving around the wrecked guardhouse, the sight of new, shiny looking BMD-3 and balaclava-clad Russian men following behind, scary enough in it's full sight. This was shitted. They were here too early, and they had found something- they rushed the Command Centre. Jan wanted to go in. But he had a feeling the ROE had changed for them. "Understood, Colonel." Jan said, as he lowered his 416, the burning wreck of the BMD-1 close to the guardhouse, and the dead bodies strewn about for nothing. He looked to the two men of Lima, unable to still see Medved. "Zhenya, I swear to God....tell me fucking true, what is going on. Why I'm hearing this. Tell me that you're going to say this is madness. We lost five men for this." Jan said, bitterly, taking his sunglasses off with his gloved hands, the 416 held tightly in his right hand, around the pistol grip. He had a feeling that whatever Zhenya was going to say, was going to be terrible indeed. Or if it wasn't, Jan knew it was going to be a lie. He felt driven himself to say it. He wasn't speaking on Scott's behalf now. He was saying it because he wanted to personally get retribution. And there was a deep seated anger that he had at Zhenya right now, a deep seated suspicion about all of this.
It was as loud as a bang could get, as the next one rumbled throughout the station. Ellie moved up, going through where she had been just an hour ago, drifting quietly and calmly. She moved up, looking behind to Neil, before the noise of that bang then echoed even louder, from the bar that she held onto. It felt like then, it occured. Engineering split into two, and Ellie could barely wrap her hand around a bar, grabbing Neil with her left, as she threw him upwards, as the whole structure below almost completely caved in. The door had perhaps been the last strongpoint- now, it had fallen apart. And it was the sudden horror of realizing where Viktor and Jeremiah were. Ellie was speechless. They were down there, in the furthest end of the station, just to the left of their airlock. The force had been explosive, and even with King's thruster pack, they'd die. She exhaled hard, aware that they were now outside, as Ellie looked to King, thrusting upwards into the Engineering area, or at least, what was left of it. She threw herself past a small door, and felt Neil go past, sealing it semi-shut to at least keep whatever integrity was left. The whole structure felt like it was falling apart, and Ellie knew they had lost any hope of finding the bulk of material in Engineering that was left. She drifted past a pair of claw arms, for repairs, and quickly stabilized herself out, moving slow, breathing slowly as she was almost totally speechless. She couldn't say anything, she knew that Dylatov and King, were as good as dead now. She had a dying oxygen supply. Soon, Stienhauser and Makoto would be alone. And Ellie felt sick from it, the knot in her stomach tightened. "Fuck..." She said, looking to Neil, grabbing his hand, aware he was close, feeling cold and warm inside as she clambered past a smashed arm. "They're going to die...that was a decompression of whatever was left, it's going to be thrown out of orbit. No thruster can save you from that." She said, moving slowly, as she reached up, moving to a cabinet, opening it up to it's empty sight. She then moved through, almost exited in a way, as she moved through the next module, quickly taking off a cover marked "Emergency". Then she was shocked to see what she saw. Where the escape pod was, there was an enormous crack, almost the size of a hand's width, by the side of the escape pod, the black ball shattered. "No way...bollocks!" She yelled, looking at it, almost feeling like she could kick it, but it wouldn't achieve little. She exhaled, knowing she had to hold herself together. "We need to get out of Engineering...that was a two man pod, we need to get to where Makoto is. I'm thinking if we salvage what supply he has, and we try and get into Medical, that seems fairly intact. But we'll need to cross Habitation. It's going to be risky." She said, looking back to him, breathing a little harder from her anger towards it, sweat pouring down her right now. This was death, this was going to be the way she died, and no matter how drilled she was, that was going to remain a fact. "Makoto, this is Tavistock...we've lost two of our men, Engineering is falling to pieces. We're going to try going through Habitation toward Medical, the last thing I can think of is that Logistics has something left in terms of escape pods, but there's no way in hell that we're going to survive long if we go direct." She said, looking down to Neil, as they approached a completely blown out section, held by barely a few metal linkages. "Okay...Neil, I need you to spool out your rope to me, and try and cross. We cross this and the linkages break, I don't want to waste fuel on boosting away, so only one of us should need to. I'm at about half levels right now." She said, aware that the vertigo was scary- they were facing towards the darkness of the stars, Engineering pointing away from the Earth. It was strange, but somehow, Ellie knew that that things were not normal now. Things didn't have their momentum stopped, they kept going, and in this case, it was just knowing that they needed security.
Right, an ultimatum. I'm going to post in about an hour- Viktor and King die if there isn't a post in that time. It's taken long enough, and I really want to keep this moving. Might as well exercise the threat, and I know that shit has been personal Pie, but I just want to be able to go on without skipping a beat.
Sweet work...you'll get a chance to fire it in just a moment, I do want to wrap this up fast, so as soon as Skyth posts up, I'll respond.
Osprey was last up, fixing the boat after all of Virus had headed up, as they followed up Virus, keeping behind. Wojtek left this to Virus, aware that they had the point- this was a real case of too many chefs, not enough cooks in regards to manuevering round doors. The three teams aboard, now including Virus, had this under control. Wojtek swept out the foredeck of the Odessa as the rest of his team got up, Thor's C8 raised as they swept out any nooks and crannies, the wet deck below the team's sand-soaked boots a strange feeling. They swept the containers, checking them over once more, before then moving back to the bridge, moving up the stairs as lasers were on, and the team had generally had their shit together. They moved through the bridge, Wojtek nodding to Wei as they secured the hostage, before moving back out onto the aft deck, onto the helipad, looking underneath for any stragglers. Nothing. There was nothing up top, at least for now. They followed Virus, Wojtek keeping behind as they swept into any room that Virus had cleared out, each and every man of Osprey searching under beds, wardrobes or in ducts for anyone that was hiding. They weren't the lead force, but somehow, Wojtek knew that the other three teams had this under control- and the lower bowels of the ship needed securing, from here on out. (Not a lot I can do on my end. I assume we're almost there.)
Skyth, you seen that PM I sent?
No probs- I think I'm going to kill King due to his inactivity, sadly so. Just post when need be, and we'll keep the ball rolling. :)
Posted. It'd be nice to get forward from this, it looks like that op is almost done.
Bird looked over to Adeleida, chuckling. "It's not what you think. My name's Joanna Bird....hence you see why they call me that. Bird." She said, chuckling, as she then checked her baseball cap, adjusting it slightly with a little tilt, the black baseball cap covering her blonde bun and just generally being there to keep it all together. "We were loud, but I was looking from afar. Didn't fire a bullet till later. But what I know is, is that Scot put a bullet into Khanya's heart." She said, as Scot looked over to Adeleida and Bird, hearing his name. "It wasn't clean...but that bastard's dead, and we wouldn't have pulled off anything more accurate." He said, exhaling, as he looked out into the distance, at the lack of lighting aboard the "We'll need to detach before the ship, or the EMP could fucking fry us. No doubt it isn't the most long lasting, but shit, losing a helicopter isn't good for buisness." He added, wanting to move away from the fact that he had to shoot that poor girl. While he knew basic first aid had been administered, the bullet hadn't been pulled out. Wojtek was the kind of man who didn't care for a little fallout. He wanted a job done. And Scot felt the same too, albeit the fact that she could have been left dying there. She didn't deserve it. Yet this was his job, after all. He had to carry on. And that he would, as he took his MP5, sliding a 9mm magazine in before slapping the bolt. Thor simply nodded to Wei's orders, knowing full well that they were going to release. "Copy that." He said, as Wojtek started the engine again, as Falcon swept them in, the boat being released into the blue sea, as the propellers span up. Within a while, the boat was moving, and they were going. It felt strange, but to Thor, this was normal. He had good sea legs, either on it, or below it. It was his Viking heritage, perhaps, but no less it was a strange feeling. The boat moved over the thundering waves, as Wojtek detached his karabiner, seeing the Odessa come in sight. "This is Osprey Actual to all friendly teams aboard the Odessa, we are advancing on starboard of the ship, near the container lift. We see the bodies." Wojtek said, as they bobbed up and down, closing in quickly. This boat could haul ass when need be, and right now, it was doing just that. They pulled up by the ship, as Wojtek slowed down, aware the rest were aboard. "Bird, Scot, let's get the grapple hooks up onto it." Wojtek ordered, as they headed to a small box at the back of the boat, opening it up and grabbing the paracord, before strapping it to the side webbing of the RIB. Lobbing it over, it hooked around the railing of the side of the Odessa itself, as the boat became tethered, as Wojtek checked his rifle, and make damn sure it was live. There would be no enemies on the top deck, but below, they'd need support clearing it. And right now, Wojtek could guess they were good. "Virus, you first- we'll follow you up. We should sweep behind the other teams and help them secure any loose rooms left behind." He said, as his own team got ready, NODs down and weapons armed and ready to go again. While Czech's Minimi would be unwieldy, Wojtek had the perfect rifle for this job, and likewise did Scot- the MP5SD being a weapon that was elegant, and almost to any Special Forces operator, the perfect incision tool. The C8 joined it, and Thor and Bird had already compacted the CTR stock in, to give the weapon a better handling. Whatever was going down, Osprey knew they were going to kick the remaining heads in.
No problem. I'll have them join in on the fight, going direct.
