I've RP'd for the best part of over 15 years now here on the Guild, and particularly like military settings, both contemporary, past and near future. I have even dabbled in a little more experimental RPs, as well as created a plethora of 1x1s over my time in the guild. I like creating RPs with a distinct flavour- and often shift between narrative-led RPs to semi-randomised plots. I've been more a GM lately than a player, and don't really lean into fandom- instead, exploring my own universes lifting themes from other source material.
My main interests are military-themed, near-future RPs, with a focus on technology. But I'm beginning to push what that RP idea looks like- taking inspiration from lots of media and focussing on the fun, indulgent side of RP, whilst also exploring the lows and emotional side.
Raven Squad is a project over seven years in the making, and focusses on a class-based, eccentric yet half-grounded near future special forces team that acts as a response team where you can't send any special forces team in. It's incredibly dumb, incredibly loose, and yet, has delivered some of my favourite plot points in RPG. A brainless action flick a la John Wick and Kingsman meets a complex thriller with a fun left turn in it, Raven has been the culmination of over a decade of loving special forces RPG, gaming influences and other silliness in a package that has provided players with something quite different to a normal military themed RPG. While at an end, this is an RP that is a signature- it's silly as hell, takes itself barely seriously, and is what peak fun military RPG to me should be.
Delta Hyper is a love letter to Wipeout, F1's Drive to Survive (Netflix) and contemporary Formula One, with influences from solarpunk, cyberpunk, transhumanism and other posthumanist concepts. An RP that follows pilots in their ups and downs, it's a story that hasn't got me playing an actual character, but framing the camera at each pilot (played by others), and presenting it as if it were a documentary. Lifting elements from TTRPG, this is a Racing RPG like no other and no parallel exists- using dice rolls and randomisation, with a stats-driven system to generate race results, rather than actually RPing the races, players experience the fast-paced, dynamic world of anti-gravity racing. This means that come Qualifying and Race, the results are genuinely a surprise to everyone- and based on decisions made through dilemmas and decisions made between races. Friendships, rivalry, the glamour and even a little political undertone play out in 2094, in a colourful, utopian future that focuses on the fight to take first place.
Then there's Tactical Breach Wizards: Fireteam Hex. First use of any set IP as a formal setting, this is an RP that offers a darker mirror to Raven Squad, focussing on the other side of the equation- unlikely heroes in an uncomfortable position. I don't normally do fantasy, but the world, the lore, the feeling of the characters and the ability to write a comedy just was too difficult to pass up. An RP that focuses on a group running away from a variety of threats as wanted mercenary wizards in the middle of a post-revolution, Eastern-Europe adjacent 1990s to present Polavia.
Lastly, Dispatch: Heroes of Claremont. This is another IP-adjacent world, albeit drawing on a different setting and a new cast of superheroes. As my "first" proper superhero RP, this combines workplace comedy, a Storyteller-lite system and a fun, diverse, and large cast together in a dynamic, diverse setting.
I'm pretty flexible and try and get back to people on ideas and responses, but sometimes, I may become very busy and it will take some time till I am un-busy. I aim to clear posts within a week!
The race grid was assembled, fans on from one of the techs blowing cold air into Hugo's cockpit, and the fans loud as ever in Melbourne. The theatrics of F1 were always exciting, always heart pumping and made it all even just that more exciting. "Comms check, Hugo. Happy with our strategy?" The engineer's voice was soothing, and with the helmet comms, almost too loud without the car alive just yet. "Yep, happy. Let's keep it that way, depending on what happens out there. Let's go." Hugo replied, taking a strong sip of water from the drink, the precious, precious drink. That wasn't pissing on his floor, or not working, no, it did it's job, because he didn't have a set of engineers for tools. Even if Valkyrie was a poor team, at least they didn't fuck up the drink.
And before anything else was said and done, the crew were packing up and away, and moving aside as the lights started, readying all for the formation lap. The car was running as the cars in front began to pull away, and in slot, so did Hugo. This was it. F1, and it was coming up. Through the corners he warmed the tyres, well and truly now only thinking about his own race. Kasumi was on the row behind, but no less of a threat, right there and ready to pounce on a bad start. He wasn't going to let that happen. But then again, nobody does and it still happens.
Hugo brought the car around the last corner, and with that, parked into his grid slot, the extra two cars on grid an unusual appearance after almost 6 years without. But here they were, Valkyrie Racing were here to bring up the rear and then some, and maybe even score some shockers. Paddle clutch held, the burgandy and green helmeted Portuguese saw the bank of red lights come on, and taking a deep exhale, counted it internally. One, two, three, four. Gone. And throttle was half in, clutch was released, and from twenty-two F1 cars the noise of mechanical insanity began.

With tours in Iraq, Afghanistan and plenty of piss ups in Ayia Napa as a Corporal in the Marines, he's done his fair share of soldiering but not his fair share of fighting- though a short relationship with Bethan after that said piss up in Ayia Napa has come to an end...

He was a thug, good for a soldier, bad for society - and without an end. That was, well, apart from his womanising charm and meeting Bethan while on a R&R trip in Ayia Napa...
They were a match that truly was strange, Sean a burly Marine with a thick Ulster accent and rough as it came, Bethan as a bright, blunt and hard-nosed professional- and they made it last, well, at least for four years, on and off, actually getting married in Las Vegas and nearly buying a house together. As relationships sometimes do though, it did go to shit and they chose to move apart three months ago- going from job to job while living with Bethan. Without any meaningful work and a wife to live with, Sean turned to working as a drug mule, dealer and in fact, a major part of a distribution network in northern Wales- putting his skills to use in anything that involved a boat, scaring the shit out of people or moving product. He got caught four weeks ago.
The ultimatum was simple, MI6 officer reasoned- do this job, clear his name, take home the bags money that came with it, and that would be plenty enough to get clear of the UK. It was a better prospect than 18 years in prison, at minimum. The problem? Bethan was implicated, by way of the fact it was seized at his house. To say she was pissed was an understatement...then again, she hadn't exactly gotten clean hands either. So unwillingly, they're a fragile alliance- and whatever drew them apart is going to have to go when they're dropping into Matanbai together...
Appearance:
Sean stands at about 6"3, with moderate-length black-brown hair and a patchy ginger beard, giving the look of someone grizzled from his experience, certainly no stranger to using the tools at his disposal. He's relatively burly, with a bit more weight since he was an operator, but no less fit and no less strong- he's not someone to come across in a bar fight and win against, put it politely.

Name: Bethan Helena Mason (nee Jones) Age: 33 Nationality: British (Welsh) Training:
Former Royal Marine, and one of the few to voluntarily go through the same commando assault course as many of the men- as a hardened triathlete, Bethan duly did her bit and has been very much above average as a soldier in the UK's commando troop, particularly for a female.
A former medic, Bethan wasn't always on the frontline, but her nickname as a "chick with a cock" said it all - well, she gave as much shit as any of the other lads would, if not worse, a blunt, no-bullshit member of the team that would do her fair share and keep her men alive, actually making the rank of Sergeant before leaving. She's taken lives- and her aptitude almost had her nominated to go into the SFSG after significant involvement in other special forces wetwork, where she went through fundamentally the full training prior to a broken leg shattered her dreams of going forwards in that vein. It's given her tactical and commando-level nous, particularly with the use of silenced and longer range weapons- not making her a full marksman but a capable shooter, more than Sean would ever admit. Aside from that, she's survived tours of Iraq, Bosnia and Afghan, meeting Sean in a bleary state in a Cypriot seaside resort and remaining happily estranged ever since.

Bethan grew up in Carnarfon, Wales, right in the foothills of Snowdonia and in mountain territory- and was given a relatively stable upbringing, allowed to be a girls' girl and go into the mountains with friends, hike, cycle and play to heart's content. Her dream of becoming a doctor was one that she changed to becoming a nurse, then a medic after her grades in school didn't match her apt intellect- it was undeserving, but her physical capability combined with her talent made her recruiter direct her into the Royal Marines.
And that was where she found herself, excelling and learning fast how to deal with people bleeding out from bullets, crying over broken bones and others in need of copious amounts of morphine. It was an environment she learned to toughen up, and her unrelenting physicality and willingness to learn, coupled to her fearless nature and lack of squeamishness made her a perfect fit in supporting combat teams and eventually, right on the frontline. She was a talent and certainly one that proved her weight in gold- her involvement even in operations with a more sensitive touch proved her skill and worthiness in any team.
She met Sean while on leave in Ayia Napa - and while he was on his way out, she spent another year in the Marines, getting married to him not too long after. He seemed burly, but he had a hidden charm to him, something she took a liking to- and well, she couldn't help it with those sultry tones, among many, many other poorly made judgements. They settled down in northern Wales, and after her discharge on medical grounds, she decided to work in nursing herself at a local hospital- whilst still keeping an interest in ironman triathlons on the side. An unfufilling career, but it was realistically achievable- and at the end of the day, a job was a job, and if they were thinking of a house and a family someday, she had to do her bit. Her relationship with Sean however became fractuous upon living with him at home when he bailed out of his most recent formal job- and so she broke it off, realising he wasn't holding up his end of the relationship, hardly looking for work and still a thug under all of it rather than wanting to move on into something serious- something she saw in him when she first dated him.
The call she recieved a few months later to say the least was a shocker- the fact Sean had been arrested and now she was implicated in money derived from it in her shared account with him was surely a wind-up. She hadn't filed any papers, and it was going to be very, very difficult to say she hadn't been aware- after all, it had been kept at their family home, and while she could prove they had been seperated for the last few months, nobody in the police was buying it. It was what had even funnelled a lot of their expenditure in the months prior- and she was going to find it tricky to say she had zero clue. Not apart from one member of the intelligence agency, who knew Bethan's talent was precisely what was needed to keep Sean on a tight leash and make sure that the job got done on a particular task...
Interestingly, the deal cut for her is slightly different than Sean's - and is the real twist in the tale. No criminal record and a nice sack of cash for a job well done, but more than that, an opportunity to work for MI6- a chance quietly back into the game on far, far more money and away from her other half for good. What she does with Sean after the operation is done is up to her- and right now, she has no easy feelings for him.
Appearance:
Bethan stands at 6"0 with short, dulled blonde hair, coupled to a well muscled and shaped physique, less burly and more cardio-focussed, her face bearing a few scars and cuts. She has the look of someone who can endlessly run, with a high level of fitness- more cheetah than lioness.

No worries man- life happens! I'm in the same mindset of late, just been swept up in a lot of things and trying to keep the wheel turning at work and life.
Qualy had been a blast, with exitement further up the grid creating a HAM BOT VER but a mixture of players up and down the field. It was a satisfying one to watch, and while most of it had been a blur given the fact they were looking at data, numbers and the car's performance throughout, everyone was a motorsport fan at a pitwall. Hugo heard Kimberly come over, congratulating the both of them as he got off the pit wall and came over by Kasumi, nodding with glee- a genuine one, given Qualifying in Formula One itself was a dream come true, one of many on his list. "Thanks Kimberly, we appreciate it. Gave us the best chance we could to show you what we're worth. Thanks." He said, a grin on his face as he looked at Kasumi, in a supportive, if not a competitive spirit. "I think that's a chance for us to go toe to toe, right?" Hugo added, chuckling as he knew that while they were friends off track, and team-mates, they were still racing, and still going to go for the position when it came down to it.
Tobias kept the GMG levelled, watching as Gabby hurled the metal door like it was a piece of plywood at the soldiers behind the sandbags, chuckling wtih a wry giggle as an idea whirred in his own head. Using her covering fire, he fired a harpoon from his left arm at the same door, using the overpenetrating metal hook to give a gentle pull on the door whilst he held the GMG in his right. With a slight turn, the metal door went flying again as he hit the retract on the tungsten hook, the door yeeting off into another guard tower and sending a sniper cartwheeling out as the hook flew back into Tobias's left hand, in something that could only be described as pure, total comedy.
"Fuck, this thing is cool! No high ground for them!" Tobias added, using her cover to move forward and pick off another few that had run out from the main house itself. With a blast, the GMG's shotgun rounds made short work, leaving none standing as he pushed forwards, the suit on overcharge and allowing him to push on, the rounds flying past. His Trophy caught a 40mm that whistled past, then another that hit right by his side, the gentle blast felt through the layers of metal as he squinted and sent a singular mini-missile their way. They tried to run, but there was no escaping once the point had been locked- and it blew them back, neutrilising them as a threat. Holding down, he covered the outside of the main villa, the garden that they were in turning from a nicely trimmed area into a bullet filled arena...and they had made a bit of a mess of it. He took the chance to cover their flank with a couple of smoke grenades, removing the distant threats that were now picking up marksman and other rifles and picking off from afar, the loud pings constant and the reminder they were under fire.
"Nice work with the gas, that's scattered them! Sneaky fuckers are trying 40 mike, just keep an eye out." Tobias added, the heavy, stomping footsteps of the two armoured exos now able to bear down on the main building itself. It would be time to breach and enter- and they were no ordinary houseguests, but here to rip the place to shreds. The building being on a hill confused things, but same time, it gave them multiple entry points. "Alright, you want to take the ground floor, I'll take the second? Remember, keep using your momentum, give them time and they'll try and entrap you in!"

<div style="white-space:pre-wrap;">I've RP'd for the best part of over 15 years now here on the Guild, and particularly like military settings, both contemporary, past and near future. I have even dabbled in a little more experimental RPs, as well as created a plethora of 1x1s over my time in the guild. I like creating RPs with a distinct flavour- and often shift between narrative-led RPs to semi-randomised plots. I've been more a GM lately than a player, and don't really lean into fandom- instead, exploring my own universes lifting themes from other source material. <br><br>My main interests are military-themed, near-future RPs, with a focus on technology. It's incredibly dumb, incredibly loose, and yet, has delivered some of my favourite plot points in RPG. A brainless action flick a la John Wick and Kingsman meets a complex thriller with a fun left turn in it, Raven has been the culmination of over a decade of loving special forces RPG, gaming influences and other silliness in a package that has provided players with something quite different to a normal military themed RPG. While at an end, this is an RP that is a signature- it's silly as hell, takes itself barely seriously, and is what peak fun military RPG to me should be.<br><br><a href="https://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/192916-delt-hyper-anti-gravity-cyberpunk-solarpunk-slice-of-life-rp/ic" title="https://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/192916-delt-hyper-anti-gravity-cyberpunk-solarpunk-slice-of-life-rp/ic">roleplayerguild.com/topics/192916-del…</a><br><br>Delta Hyper is a love letter to Wipeout, F1's Drive to Survive (Netflix) and contemporary Formula One, with influences from solarpunk, cyberpunk, transhumanism and other posthumanist concepts. An RP that follows pilots in their ups and downs, it's a story that hasn't got me playing an actual character, but framing the camera at each pilot (played by others), and presenting it as if it were a documentary. Lifting elements from TTRPG, this is a Racing RPG like no other and no parallel exists- using dice rolls and randomisation, with a stats-driven system to generate race results, rather than actually RPing the races, players experience the fast-paced, dynamic world of anti-gravity racing. This means that come Qualifying and Race, the results are genuinely a surprise to everyone- and based on decisions made through dilemmas and decisions made between races. First use of any set IP as a formal setting, this is an RP that offers a darker mirror to Raven Squad, focussing on the other side of the equation- unlikely heroes in an uncomfortable position. I don't normally do fantasy, but the world, the lore, the feeling of the characters and the ability to write a comedy just was too difficult to pass up. An RP that focuses on a group running away from a variety of threats as wanted mercenary wizards in the middle of a post-revolution, Eastern-Europe adjacent 1990s to present Polavia. <br><br><a href="https://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/197399-dispatch-heroes-of-claremont/ic" title="https://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/197399-dispatch-heroes-of-claremont/ic">roleplayerguild.com/topics/197399-dis…</a><br><br>Lastly, Dispatch: Heroes of Claremont. This is another IP-adjacent world, albeit drawing on a different setting and a new cast of superheroes. As my "first" proper superhero RP, this combines workplace comedy, a Storyteller-lite system and a fun, diverse, and large cast together in a dynamic, diverse setting.<br><br>I'm pretty flexible and try and get back to people on ideas and responses, but sometimes, I may become very busy and it will take some time till I am un-busy. I aim to clear posts within a week! </div>
