Kaeru was momentarily thrown off balance when she went through her opponent, but managed to catch herself and land on her feet before she'd hit the ground on the other side.

"I'm pretty sure I nailed the species alright."

Another word starting with a B would have been a much more liberating comeback, but much more unbecoming of the Frog Princess.

She then hopped onto a nearby pole, turning to a still goading Willow. Her eyes also caught the Unicorn, which was now getting free of her conjured frogs.

"So... you're still angry with me, huh?" Sayuri muttered in a low voice only she would hear, annoyed. Since her return, she had tried a number of times to call on to her more iconic partner - the Ogama; Bakegama - to no avail. She let out a disappointed sigh, shrugging it off. "Fine, be like that. I still have options."

Sayuri almost missed the little monkeys hiding about, spying on the fighting pair. Like the other Magical Girls, she had eyed one or two around Hibusa City before, but didn't think not much of them. She believed them to be something akin to Evil Eye's floating spies - but now wondered if they might also be linked to the newcomer she met on the mountain.

Though none of this would help with the annoying musician at hand.

Without Bakegama at her side, and with that Nightmare unicorn on the loose, staying on the ground was not an option for Kaeru. The rest of her slimy friends were disappearing now, hopping away or straight up vanishing in a puff of smoke as the nightmarish horse began it's charge.

Yet two other, larger summons appeared at Kaeru's side.

One, a large Toad that appeared right below the lamppost, had a reddish skin tone to it, and looked a lot sturdier than any of her previous ones. While not a hundred percent Humanoid like Bakegama, it bore powerful front legs, looking nothing like a regular Toad.
The second one, a rather large Frog holding onto the post beside her, had a more blue-ish skin color to it, bearing tattoos all over it's body. It's eyes were fixated on Willow.

"Did you ever meet Raijin and Fujin? No thunder or tempest nonsense, but I felt it was fitting with the coloring and all ~"

Both of them bore beads necklaces around their necks. Both were clearly summons more akin to Willow's Unicorn or Kaeru's Bakegama. Among Kaeru's silly looking magic, there was really only three summons she called on when she was serious. With Raijin and Fujin, the club had seen two of them so far. Only Rei had seen the third one so far.

~ ♫ ~

"If at first you don't succeed... ! " Kaeru exclaimed, jumping backwards down onto Raijin just as it inflated it's vocal sac, which served as a launching platform that Kaeru bounced right off of, launching herself at Willow again. The Red Toad then readied itself to attempt at catching the unicorn's charge and stop it dead in it's track.

The 'ghost kitty' most likely could phase through her attack once more, but Sayuri counted exactly on that this time. If she didn't, she'd be hard pressed to avoid the head on attack. If she did fall for it though, Willow would quickly feel something wrap around, and stick, just as she'd reappear. Looking down, she'd quickly realize Kaeru was but the distraction.

Fujin's tongue outstretched all the way to the annoying fly. Having caught Willow, Fujin would then jump from it's perch and flex it's powerful tongue downward, sending Willow on a collision course with her own Unicorn.

It would have been hard to froget forget someone has pompous, annoying and plain evil as Willow seemed to be. Not to forget crazed. Rei's henchman even seemed to have lost a few more screws somewhere along the way. Kaeru remained sat for the duration of Willow's villainous monologuing, but as she was going on and on, Hibusa's shrine maiden stance straightened with each words. By the time she was done talking, she had Kaeru's full attention, now semi sitting up.

"I'll say; Some in your little club have the semblance of a honor or a moral code of some such in their own deranged way.

She brought a foot up.

"Some used to be funny - to fight with at least, if nothing else. But you?"

She brought the other foot in place, taking a stance now ready to pounce.

"You're little more than Rei's crazed lapdog." Kaeru was trying to hide the anger she felt at Willow's words, but doing a bad job of it.

It was about at that time the dark flames came from underneath the large Toad Kaeru was standing on. She wasn't able to fly like some of her peers could, but;
When the unicorn's horn found it's way into the amphibian's soft underbelly was when Kaeru's launched herself into the air just as her summon... exploded into more than a few dozens smaller toads and frogs. The unicorn would find itself swarmed by the bactracians hordes as others leapt after their Master. Kaeru used the frogs like stepping stones; each step was met with a frog that had leaped high up.

As she was ascending, she added; "Doesn't matter - I'll give you the beating she never did!"

Such a living staircase allowed her to gain the altitude she needed until, at the top, she was met with a much larger toad on which she could use the full force of both her legs and launch herself off it's back right towards Willow - while at the same time sending the bigger toad backwards towards the unicorn as if it was a cannonball croaking a warcry.

If Willow herself was not quick enough, she might find herself on the receiving end of previously mentioned froglegs, as Kaeru was now aiming a full dropkick towards her like a very angry missile.

It was now the second night Kaeru was back on on Hibusa's rooftops and patrolling the city looking for any Miseria. Or any of the other sources of negativity that this town did not need, at least from Sayuri's point of view. Last night had been productive, no doubt stemming from the fact she felt guilty still to have been absent for such a long time and felt like there was a lot of catching up to do. Still, as productive as it was, Sayuri still felt like there was not as many Miseria around as there used to back when she was the only Magical Girl around.

Well, along with Rei. Perhaps also one or two of her cronies. Time sure flew by fast and now it was actually hard to recall the exact moment when they both realized they were magical girls, let alone if that was before or after Rei had already fallen. Then it felt as if the rest of the Loser's club sprouted around her like bad weed too quickly to be pulled out. She landed on a rooftop, looking over the nearby part of the city and scanning every nook and crannies, looking for anything interesting.

Sayuri thought back to Bodacious Boleite, the strange girl she met in the mountain who, through pretty tough words, forced Sayuri out of a bad loop. That girl definitely did not feel like a Dark Magical Girl, even if look-wise might had fit in. Then again... she look off her hat for a second, a frog jumping out of it and onto her shoulder. Kaeru put her hat back on.

"Who am I to judge?" Sayuri would have to thank her the next time they meet. Perhaps with more Light Girls around, things would look up?

That was about the time her attention shifted to some commotion happening nearby. "Let's go."

The toad had only managed to get about two or three jumps in before it turned around, looking at the incoming crazed unicorn. Then, from up top, both the violinist and unicorn would hear a voice holler;

"What do we have here?"

The shadow of a large mass would then appear underneath the Unicorn, who might have found itself squashed beneath an even larger toad that fell right where the horse would have been, if it had not stopped and jumped back. On said Toad sat a figure Willow met once or twice before - one she might have thought had disappeared.

Legs crossed, arms holding her head up and a smug on her face, Kaeru spoke up.

"Who else could it be but Rei's #1 fan; Depression's Club own chief musician. You lot just can't stop yourselves from bullying smaller, weaker beings can't you?"

& Bodacious Boleite

Among the forest afternoon light walked one lone young woman; a familiar sight to any nearby denizens of the woods for many months, now. The nearby mountain shrine had been maintained by the same family for what seemed like generations at this point. Yet, their only daughter had no interest in taking up the mantle until very recently when the mother of the family passed suddenly. Now, that very same daughter was walking along the forest path around the shrine, lost in thoughts, before the start of another day.

Sayuri had walked up to a site where more traditional tombstones laid. As she dropped some cleaning tools on the floor and began plucking at the wild herbs around, she couldn't help but sigh. For some time now, she had abandoned her duties as a Magical Girl: Kaeru, protector of Hibusa Town. One of, at the very least. She still attended school, though remained more low-key than she used to and outings with friends were less frequent than before, since she had to be back early to attend shrine duties and what not.

"Yeah, I know. I'm late. Sorry, Mom. I may not be chasing monsters and what not every night anymore, but I still got homework y'know." She said as she began scrubbing the tomb, keeping on having conversation with the still rock.

Nearby, a curious frog looked on. But the frog’s attention would only be held for a moment. The snap of a twig drew the frog’s eyes down a forest path. Then came the crunch of some leaves. Then another twig broke, but it was closer. Then there was a crack, like a static discharge. Just as the figure came into view, the frog dove off of its perch to find safety. The figure in question looked like they might have grabbed a hold of some power lines, because their blond hair was spiked and going off in all directions. It was also possible the giant tesla coil strapped to her back was causing her hair to stand up. If not those, then maybe the menacing “gun” that’s tip arced like a plasma globe was the culprit. Regardless, she was clearly a magical girl, even if her outfit wasn’t as flashy as others. It was some mix between a scientist's labcoat and what they would wear if they decided to become a lineman for a day.

The girl had the massive gun shouldered as her curious eyes took in the beauty of the forest. While all the sparks and electricity should have been a fire hazard, they were apparently harmless. Glowing blue electricity danced off of leaves and bark alike, but never left a mark. Her body seemed to hum with energy, and as soon as she arrived near the priestess, a smile crossed her lips.

”Sup?”

Sayuri heard the snap, turned to face it and saw that another girl had walked up from the forest’s confines. To say that she contrasted with her surroundings was like remarking that the sky was blue. Sayuri then turned back to the tomb, used her hand to dust it off one last time, and pick a few more herbs around it.

"Temple’s down there, if that is what you’re looking for. Follow the path to get back to town." She then stood up, turning to face the spiked hairs girl and dusting her own hands off. “You won’t find much miseria around here, though.”

Even being out of the loop for this long, it would have been impossible to not recognize this individual as a fellow Magical Girl. Some of them found their way up in the mountains from time to time, chasing some lost miseria or what not. Even some of that Detention Club bunch, at times. Not that they’d recognize Sayuri for who they once knew her as.

”Is that how you answer sup?” She shrugged her shoulders. ”I saw the temple already. It’s in pretty good condition despite its age. You did a good job sweeping it up. Speaking of you, you’ve got my interest.” She chuckled. ”You’re a magical girl. You can see and hear me.

“Not for a long while.” the shrine maiden simply answered, eyes lost looking at nothing.

”If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that frog could too.”

Said frog climbed out from under a leaf and croaked.

It snapped Sayuri’s back, forcing a smile out which did not reach her eyes. Who’s to say. she said as her eyes glanced over to the tiny frog. She then picked up the cleaning items she had brought over, leisurely walking closer to the other girl. The fact this seemingly newcomer immediately could tell despite the others at school having been none the wiser was surprising, but Sayuri tried not to let it show. “You’ve caught me at a bad time is all. Usually, there’s no real reason to come around here except to visit.” Sayuri answered, honest as can be. ”I’m Sayuri.”

”Bodacious Boleite, but Boleite is fine.” She reached a hand out to shake, but it arced with electricity, and she pulled it back empty handed. ”I wouldn’t say there’s no reason to come up here, though.” She returned to Sayuri’s earlier point after they finished their greeting. ”It’s awfully peaceful up here. Which makes sense. I mean, it’s the resting place of spirits.” She took a step back and looked around. ”In the city of light you need to go to a park to see a tree half as big as the ones around here. It’s almost like a zoo exhibit for trees. You come out here and you can barely see the light through the canopy.” After taking in the sights, she inhaled. ”And talk about that air quality! We have clean air in the City of Light, but it’s unreal with all these trees here.” Boleite lowered her gaze to Sayuri. ”Let me put it this way, I’d be tempted to abandon my duties if I had a place like this I could retreat into.”

“You didn’t strike me as the spiritual type - no offense.”

”None taken.”

Sayuri walked up to another tombstone to begin dusting it, reflecting on the words of her unassuming wise counterpart. It was impossible to know whether or not ‘Boleite’ knew just how much her choice of words resonated within Sayuri’s heart, but the maiden has a creeping suspicion it was no coincidence.

It was funny just how much this contrasting magical girl reminded Sayuri of herself just a few months back. It wasn’t so long ago that she, herself, was the spark of these somber and calm woods. Much to the detriment of her shrine duties and mother’s dismay. After a long silence, Sayuri turned to Boleite with a stare that meant to put an end to pretenses.

These are my duties. Pretending otherwise was never meant to last.

”Hmmmm...” The electrified girl rubbed her chin. ”It would be pretentious to assume things about you, so I’d like to talk about my own experiences.” She leaned her hand into a tree. ”I was being polite earlier. Don’t get me wrong, I think nature is awesome, but I’d never stick around here. Magical girls are forced to live two lives. I’ve got my grades to keep up, but miseria need slaying and dark magical girls need beating. Two lives, two duties.”

Sayuri turned back to her duties of cleaning the site, avoiding Boleite’s eyes. In truth, it was more so to hide.

Boleite pushed herself off the tree and walked closer to the grave. ”If I pretend I only had one set of duties, one of those lives suffers. Kinda sucks, but it is what it is. I’d clear out a lot more of my video game backlog if I didn’t spend it beating up monsters. But I’ve got this power so I might as well use it. Same with my classes. I don’t think my parents would be too pleased with me if I only got passing grades. Even if I can’t tell them about my other responsibilities, I think they’d be proud of me to know I’m doing what I can for the world before even finishing school. But that’s no reason to slack off, I’m doing this for me too!” She stopped by the gravestone. ”And because I’m feeling a little pretentious now, I’ll say I think a real shrine maiden would serve the living as well as the dead.”

Sayuri had stopped pulling at the herbs of polishing the stone. Not a sound or reaction to be heard.

Boleite lowered herself to one knee and looked at the grave stone. ”Forgive my continued rudeness, but you wouldn’t have happened to know this person would you? Looks a lot newer than the other ones, and are those offerings you just placed here?”

Slowly rising up, the shrine maiden silently wiped away at her face. When her mother passed, she had never felt so helpless and lost. All that she felt at the time was guilt and feeling like she disappointed her parents. It had hit her father hard also, understandably, and so Sayuri decided to be there more and help him around the shrine, picking up the duties she was so eager to ignore before. It was these feelings that stuck with her since. This was the first time she was forced to face outward since her mother’s passing.

I… have to go. she said, evading Boleite’s stare. If the Gem was so wise as all that, she knew that the words hit their mark.

”Hmmm?” Boleite stood up and looked over her shoulder. Her carefree smile turned a little bit when she noticed the shrine maiden depart from the mountain. ”Awww, damn. I didn’t mean to hurt her feelings. Six years of city living and I’m still just a country bumpkin.” She looked side to side. ”Oh, I don’t see the frog anymore. I was hoping he could relay a message for me.” But no amount of talking was going to summon another frog. She knelt down again, this time to say a quiet prayer.

Sayuri fled the mountain cemetery down to the shrine and then to her family’s house. Boleite’s words had both angered and sadded her. That anger was not directed to the magical girl, though Sayuri might not have realized that just yet. As the door closed, she could hear the faint voice of her father call out her name, asking if she was back. Sayuri did not answer him, wanting nothing more than to go to her room and hide away the rest of the day.

As she did so, something stopped her. In the entrance hallway, on a nearby piece of furniture sat a picture. Sayuri must have passed here a hundred times a week, but somehow must have did her utmost to ignore it; a picture of her mother, father and herself. Her mother looked exasperated while her father was laughing. Sayuri was smiling ear to ear.

“I remember that day.” the voice of her father said, just behind her. She must have not heard him stand up and walk to her. “The day you came back with your hairs dyed for the first time.” He put a hand underneath Sayuri’s, holding the picture with her looking back. They put it back into place, beside the offering. He then lightly booped her on the nose, perfectly picking up on the fact his daughter was not feeling right. “Even though we said no.” he added, playfully.

Sayuri chuckled a bit, her smile showing up briefly but it faded soon giving way to more melancholy, and a few tears. “Mother was so disappointed in me that day.”

“Honey…” He looked down on his daughter for a second before raising her chin with a finger, looking her in the eyes even though she tried to avoid it. “There was not a moment in your mother and mine’s whole life when she or I was not completely and absolutely proud of our beloved daughter. Neither the color of your hairs, clothes or choices in life would ever have changed this.”

This, mixed with Boleite’s earlier words, opened the flood gate. Against her father shoulder, she cried away every bit of emotions that had been held inside all this time. Then and there she decided; no more hiding.

Later that evening - after a good meal prepared by her father - for the first time in months Sayuri would be looking down at Hibusa City with a renewed sense of optimism. Up from atop the Temple’s ceiling she stood, along with about a good dozen frogs all around, looking just as ready as she was. She held her hat, blonde hairs blowing in the night air as one of the frog - the same from earlier - hoped onto her shoulder.

“Get ready Hibusa; Miseria; AND the Loser’s Club! We are so back.” she said to her amphibian companion before she, and all her frogs, jumped into the moonlit night.

@PaulHaynek

Tomi stared at Kirei with a truthful interest, or at the very least what passed as such for Tomi. Interest in the gold dragon was fleeting at best, though came in powerful episodes. It required a level of care and effort to maintain; things that Tomi did not have in ample reserves. Still, her eyes switched from Kirei to the other young man beside him, some Takeshi Oja.

"Oja?" she repeated. He looked nothing like the Takeshi Tomi knew of. This little presentation speech of his resonated in her mind like an old memory, like a déjà-vu. She looked at this 'Takeshi' from head to toe. His short black hair and evenly dark colored clothing - nothing like what she remembered.

"But..." before she could speak, however, Tomi was cut off by Kirei who seemed to lay out his inner thoughts out loud for them to hear, but not to answer. Seemingly frustrated with the Dragon and her story, he walked away to deal with some other matter. "And there he goes..." Tomi muttered in a sigh. It wasn't the first time a Kannazuki walked away from her in frustration, she ought to admit. That too felt like a familiar memory, she thought, with an inner laugh and a smirk.

"My name is Tomi Oro. I am a Gold Dragon from further north on the main continent, but I couldn't give you an exact location." Tomi started divulging information about her origins. From where she came from to hear early years to decripbing her lair in a little more details than necessary, taking extra care describing her pride and joy: the treasure hoard she left behind when she took off on her personal quest. Eventually, her story made it to where they now are.

"So... I decided to take a nap and this is where I woke up. I took flight and ended up here. The good news is I think I understand what happened." For the first time since Takeshi looked at her, Tomi finally had a more serious air about her. Finally, the man might feel emanating from her all the raw power, magic, and ancestry that one may have expected from a Dragon - even in human form.

"Everything feels different; the scent, the air, the colors of the clouds and the color of the leaves. So slight the changes are that I failed to see it at first, but I feel it. This place... it's not Shizuyama. At least, it's not my Shizuyama." She took a step towards Takeshi, leaning in closer and closer to his head until... she picked a strand of his black hair in her hand to smell it. Was it necessary? No, but it was solely to emphasize her next point.

"Even you, Takeshi. I met you from where I come from, but you are wholly different, down to your scent. So, I do not know how, but it seemed I have slept my way to an... Alternate Shizuyama. Somehow?"

All air of seriousness left her just as quickly as it came when she slouched back into a pout, arms crossed, and lamented: "Definitely a Tomi thing to do... Just my luck!"
Asterope

@AzureKnight

After her presentation, Asterope sat back down and decided to remain silent for the remainder of the meeting. Contrary to some other Reavers and people present here, she had no strong feelings neither for nor against the church. The woman's aspirations had always been to become a talented mage, where that path might lead her. That pursuit may have kept her from learning as much as some others on institutions like the Church, if only because of a lack of caring for it. Now, however, things might have to change.

The looks some of her peers exchanged with the church members did not escape the woman's silent stare. She was gone for some time, but didn't forget about her previous companions, such as Leon. A mysterious man who seemed rather interested in the church and its doings nearly as much as he seemed of interest to them. Or at least that's what it felt like.

Soon after having learned of their imminent departure to the city of Flugel, the council ended. Slowly, the room emptied of their members. Asterope remained seated, not being the kind of person to hurry themselves to anything that did not caught her immediate interest. It was only when everyone else, or most of the room at least, had left that the lightning mage stood up and made her way to the halls. She might have had followed the church members along with Leon or engaged in some other inquiry... but the truth was she just did not know enough yet to truly want to mingle. Apart from Shavis - who seemed to have disappeared quite fast, the 'Thunder Witch' had not the time to make many an acquaintance. She did, however, run into a familiar face while roaming the halls: Evelyn Grace.

"Well... the 'Star Witch' herself. You seem to have quite the reputation around here, from what little I have heard." said Asterope as she walked up to the girl in the hallways, standing before the younger Reaver with all the regal presence that was her own. Yet for all of it and what people said about herself, Asterope did not sound nor exude any form of misplaced pride nor arrogance.

"I also heard new gossips. Some say that the Witch of Eon Tower managed to pull off some extraordinary magical feat on her last mission. Considering that said Witch is - quite unfortunately - not myself, it seems I must congratulate you. I will admit, I was quite curious and impressed when I heard of it. Perhaps we should discuss on matters of Lightning magic, you and I."

@AzureKnight

Tomi's lazy and relaxed stance changed to a surprised one when the man's tiger-like, angry stare fixated onto her own now confused eyes. The fact that this man was not Shizuyama was now abundantly clear. Him taking a step forward actually caused Tomi, a dragon, to take one backward. Not exactly out of fear per se, but the man was intimidating. Furthermore, the intense energy he let out wasn't amiss on the gold dragon who was always on the lookout for powerful individuals.

"Hrm... h-hold on. Who..." she began speaking in her soft voice, stammering her words as a drop of sweat would go down her forehead. Then, however, he said something that explained all of it.

Well. Some of it really.

"Ah! So you are Shizuka's brother!" Tomi said, her behaviour changing completely. It was as if the doubt and confusion of a second ago lifted totally. Her own, at least, as it seemed the man's own anger wasn't quite taken into serious consideration by the inconsiderate Tomi.

"My - you are just as cute as the Captain! Look at you!" Tomi jumped in little excitement, hands joined together. Perhaps part of her joyfulness was due to the fact she was realizing - wrongfully probably - she would not be punished by said Shizuka for falling asleep. Again.

"I did come to the island with him, and the rest of an intervention force. Though I do not feel any of them around anymore... Actually, everything feels slightly different. Even this temple. Kyouko-san?...Hmmm." she looked up, finger to her chin. "Yes, I believe she was that lady that hired us? I don't recall too much of that meeting."

She then sighed deeply before going back to the other part of the man's question. "Alas... I am not Shizuka's wife. He was very strong for a human, but kept refusing my advances. It was not meant to be... So I'm still on a quest to find a suitable mate! Who knows..." Her eyes half-closed to a more seductive stare as her tail came forward, slightly brushing the man's arm in a teasing motion. "...Perhaps you're looking for a mate as well?"

As she soared through the skies, Tomi couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss—different, to be precise. The revelation of what exactly would come later, but in the present, her priority was hastening back to avoid another reprimand from their group's leader. Again. Unaware of the duration of her slumber, she needed to confirm her allies were still where she last left them.

Fortune favored her as she soon sensed friendly presences in the Temple, though they felt unfamiliar. Despite the gold dragon's typically carefree nature, she circled the temple a couple of times before choosing to land. Once decided, Tomi wasted no time.

The dragon descended with a resounding thud near the pagoda, creating a visible crater and cracked earth where she touchdown. Her wings vanished magically as she walked forward, displaying a lack of concern. Now, while a most common reaction to a stranger, yokai or otherwise, heading directly towards oneself might typically be a defensive response, everything about Tomi indicated she posed no threat.

Firstly, a Dragon yokai with ill intentions would have attacked without bothering to land. Secondly, she bore no weapons or armor. In fact, her nearly transparent veil did little to conceal her most alluring human traits. And thirdly and most obvious of all - her expression screamed nonchalance as she leisurely walked to them. Taller by a head than most humans, her golden hair cascaded down to her midback. As she approached, her tail positioned itself between the white-haired man and anyone else in conversation with him, effectively halting their discussion. Tomi, with pure golden eyes, scrutinized the man from head to toe. Her pale-skinned hand delicately grasped one of his locks of hair, as if to examine it.

Stepping back, her expression shifted from serious to one of disappointment, perhaps even curiosity.
"You are not Shizuka, but you bear the same scent? Who are you? Actually... where are we? I do not recognize this temple. Well—I do, but also... not? It feels different. Are you the task force?"
Asterope

The double doors swung open with a thunderous bang as Asterope made her entrance into the room. She came to a halt at the entrance, allowing her violet eyes to leisurely scan the surroundings. Without any notable sense of urgency, she proceeded to stroll in, gracefully finding her way to an unoccupied spot on the side. Adorned in her distinctive dress and an impressive cape, she emanated the regal aura which was so recognizable of her.

"Apologies for my tardiness! This morning was truly chaotic — I barely had the time to make myself look presentable for our esteemed guests." Asterope chose not to sit down and instead remained standing, meeting the inquisitor at eye level as she responded to him.

"My name is Asterope. You might have heard the moniker given to me by others, although I would prefer if you did not. I arrived early in the morning from a mission; please excuse my tardiness. But please, don't let me interrupt; continue." she said with all the politeness and smiles that was due when speaking to a man of Grisha's rank. All while remaining true to herself, of course.

She then looked around the room, recognizing many of the faces of those present. When her eyes met with Shavis, she gave her a smile and a little wave of the hand.
