<Snipped quote by Dynamo Frokane>
Slint is highly praised and credited with creating the 90's, rock-wise, yet they are not that popular nowadays and no one outside some hipster circles says yeah dude, play some Slint! The same goes for Doom. It's kind of dead now, compared to the 90's let's say or compared to other FPS's people tend to play. The last year's release helped, I admit that.
And I am just nostalgic about it, I don't really like in any special way to be honest.
I guess we could say it's 'underpopular' instead of underrated, because it is considered a classic like you said. But that's the meaning I thought was implied in this thread when I agreed with cpldingo.
You cant expect a game that is 2 and a half decades old to be as consistently popular as it was upon release, but considering its age, you would be hard pressed to find a 'classic' from that era that is as popular as doom, even pokemon was released 3 years later.
Basically Doom is not underrated, people don't play Goldeneye 64 anymore either, but you would never in a million years say that was 'underrated' would you? It was the first video game to win a BAFTA for Christ sake. There are plenty good 90s games that don't get the praise they deserve, but doom is not one of them.
