Premise

Tim Taggart is an ex politician turned radical activist who is trying to rebuild the cities police force. Fighting corruption and evading the mob. Part of his activism is robbing high end technology from city hall. After stealing a very powerful A.I. and bumping into a desperate smuggler on the run from the mafia. The danger ramps up and the threat is from all angles.

Premise

Koji Kanda is lazy but brilliant student who is more interested in reading about local myths and unsolved mysteries rather than study. He is going to be expelled if he doesn't start turning his grades around so his long suffering teacher has agreed to tutor him. He also spends a lot of time with his local librarian who is always giving him more myth and mystery books to read. One day he stumbles upon a great ancient power in one of the books that sends all 3 of them on a supernatural journey, now relying on the student that they were both meant to support.

Taliah has had dealings in the past with the magical arts and as a Dhampnirs herself, has an affinity to track those who delve too deeply and too greedily into the poisonous throngs of magik.

Brief History:

Although rare, but not on heard of, Taliah is the byproduct of her mother Merina's more notorious sexcapades. Merina is a wealthy and highly influential vampiress that resides in the Chess Islands. Her annual balls are infamous for all manner of debouchery that occurs. It was during one of this balls that Taliah was conceived.

Her father, although wealthy, was nothing special and as such was never permitted to have anything to do with the child. Taliah is certain that even if he had been allowed by Merina, he wouldn't have wanted to. Coupling with a vampire was frowned upon, after all, even in the more progressive circles of society.

Taliah grew up in the Chess Island providence being groomed to be a business woman like her mother. However, she had no aspiration to follow in Merina's footsteps and only went along with it because of her mother's insistence.

When word reached Taliah that her father had passed away, she insisted on going to his funeral despite her mother's disapproval. During the visit her extended family attempted an assassination on her life - due to the shame she had brought the Hozar family line tainting it with vampiric blood. Despite having been warned of the world's disposition to vampires by her mother, Taliah had been naive and foolish in thinking she could fit in. The assassination attempt opened her eyes and cause her to seek out training. She sent word to famous hunters and scholars to train and teach her, offering them a hefty sum of money much to her mother's disapproval.

She spent several years training under sever hunters but her affinity to detect magic made her extremely useful when it came to hunting witches and acolytes.

Bio
Born in the vast wild wastes of Roh, Al had to adapt to the cutthroat gunslinger lifestyle just as quickly as everyone else. He was an orphan raised in a chapel, but as soon as he turned 12, he stole a pistol and used it to hunt down a stagecoach robber that he found on a wanted poster. With the reward money he used to leave the Wild Waste of Roh and begin work in the capital as bounty hunter. The skills he developed were impressive for his age and he became one of the most feared in the Province. Before long, he began to wonder more about his birth and his parents so after some investigation at the Chapel he discovered although his Mother was a Rohish merchant, his father was from Naveroth and a member of the occult, who killed his mother shortly after he was born when she refused to join the order.

With that information Alkerman has been in Naveroth learning as much as he can about the Occult and the crimes they commit. Still working as a bounty hunter, the nature of his targets have become something he could have never imagined. He operates outside of the Night's Watch guild, so is technically a criminal which is why he stays masked. Although his bounty hunting has saved more than a few lives, so no one is in a rush to turn him in.

Eve has been needing to defend herself for quite a long time now as she has made her way through life. On those rare life-threatening occasions where the young witch can’t avoid physical combat, she carries a luck charm that doubles as a weapon. Her ‘Hook of Abramelin’ is one of the last of her family’s heirlooms. Eve is by no means supposed to possess the hook, as it is meant to be used only ritualistically, but in a panicked state, Eve grabbed up the hook to defend herself when she finally fled the Acolytes in her hometown. Since then, she hasn’t put it down.

Witch's Hands
With her extensive background in the dark arts, Eve did manage to pick up on a few of the more useful traditional aspects of folk magic. The practice of making ‘hands’ is a concept of rootworking involving using various powders and mixtures to create solutions to assist the rootworker. This manifests in Eve’s life via the use of dust bombs, burning powders, and makeshift explosive cocktails.

Other Equipment:
Despite her slight aversion to working with the dark arts, Eve has always carried a ritual kit just in case she runs into a trouble only a witch could escape. Her kit contains a miscellaneous variety of anointing oils, powders, herbs, and other reagents she comes across. Alongside that, Eve never goes out to work without her mother’s cloak. Although its appearance may give away Eve’s knack for witchery, she wears it from time to time when a disguise may be more viable than her normal garb.

Skills:
Eve has lived quite an eventful life, leading her to develop a host of rather practical skills for her unique circumstances. With her background in the dark arts, Eve has a tendency to use simplistic elements of witchcraft and black magic to ensure the world is on her side. This is most often seen through the use of charms and artifacts she can invoke spells with. Though most esoteric knowledge remains out of Eve’s grasp, the temptation to continue using the dark arts despite her line of work is always there.

Brief History:
While on the surface the Chess Islands may appear perfectly safe, acting as an ideal environment to live in, what lies seeded in the Islands’ society couldn’t be more different. Born illegitimately, Eve found herself split between one of society’s underworld’s greatest divides. Unbeknownst to the young Eve for the greater part of her childhood, she was brought up between a powerful witch mother and a father who was well connected with a cell of Acolytes. Even despite their eternal connection, Eve’s parents weren’t the most cooperative pair. This divide was what ultimately lead Eve to discover the true nature of her origin.

With neither of her parents wishing to bring Eve into their darker world so soon, it came down to happenstance that first introduced her to the lives of Witches and Acolytes. A greater propensity to be around the supernatural left Eve and her childhood friends in an interesting scenario. With no knowledge of the world beyond its mundane elements, Eve saw only darkness in the magic of her progenitors. As a young teen, she took up the practice of actively combatting the evils of these magical organizations. She was by no means a master witch hunter, but she did as much as a teenage girl with cursory knowledge of her targets could.

Of course, Eve couldn’t hide her own hobbies from her parents just as they couldn’t keep their own secrets. It was during one of Eve’s investigations into the deeper workings of an Acolyte occultist ritual that she was caught and her father caught wind of what she was doing in her free time. This period of Eve’s life was wrought with a slew of invitations from her father. She was to become an Acolyte like him, but of course her mother had plans with an exact opposite end result.

Admittedly, young Eve did dabble in both sides of the magical spectrum, be it witchcraft or the dark arts of the Acolytes, but her time with her parents’ organizations was short. Eve knew that the hunters of her sort were morally correct in the end. As she grew up, she grew more distant until eventually Eve had finally decided to break away from her familial ties before one parent tore the other apart. Her personal schism was not left alone without resistance, however.

Eve became nothing more than a fugitive. In between running away from her family and fleeing from the punishments of her mother’s coven and her father’s cell, Eve began to live a life with no close allies. The only handful of folks she could trust were other witch hunters, since she saw them as being in a similar situation: without law or safety. Her little secret was only guarded so well, though, and it soon became prevalent that Eve tell no one of her past dabblings in witchcraft and black magic.

Eve did go on to guide herself as something of a successful witch hunter, though. Finding herself drifting from town to town around Naveroth and its neighboring cities, she took up gambling and card playing as a perfect way to exploit her skills for profit, and that was all she needed to fuel the life she wanted: exploring the esoteric and keeping her pursuers from her back.

The game has a unique setting that draws upon traditional fantasy (elves, dwarves, magic and goblins) but also in a early 20th century European style world. For those of you interested in the Frokane Multiverse This RP will be set 500 years in the future of my Sword and Sorcery world and will take place in 1913 and follow a group of supernatural hunters called The Night Watch who hunt various fiends including vampires and demons in the world. The story starts when they all uncover a powerful artifact which allows them to transform into a deadly monster to increase their power in combat, but will they retain their humanity?

The City Of Naveroth

In 500 years Naveroth has not changed much at all. The land is still said to be cursed, and although the City has embraced religion many know that the necromancers are still really in control of the land. This is where the Night Watch was formed, when ordinary people began to investigate the mysterious disappearances and murders themselves. Some pooled together money to hire mercenaries to investigate and some took up training to face the horrors themselves.

The Lost Empire of Roh

The Empire of Roh is no more. Once a thriving desert civilisation, it was wiped out by an unknown evil force of necromancy that is said to be tied to the ancient tombs that populate the land. Now these ruins are home to mad zealots and dangerous acolytes who seem to be in constant search for the power that the fallen empire once held.

The Chess Islands

Once a dangerous hideout island for pirates, the Chess Islands are now a a set of residential resort towns for the wealthy. It is known for its popular food and exciting festivals, but even in a town for the rich and powerful, the whispers of evil and monsters are still very common.

Enemy Types

Werewolves

The cursed beastmen of the night are fairly common in the dark forests that surround Naveroth. The first werewolf was spotted by a boar hunting party roughly 70 years ago, which some had theorised to be the first to infect and 'turn' others as the surviving member of the hunting party then became the alpha of his own pack and ended up destroying his own village.

The werewolves are naturally fast, strong and extremely vicious, they do not need human flesh to survive but seem to enjoy devouring people anyway. The common werewolves are feral beasts by night and a drifting humans by day. They cant transform at will but it is not unheard of to see a human turn into a werewolf during daylight if his life is grave danger.

The more uncommon werewolf, called the 'Alphas' can change at will, and retain a lot of intelligence and influence over others even in beast form. Despite being able to become human and resist transformation a lot of them remain in beast form as they prefer it. There has only been roughly 25 or so recorded Alhpha kills in the 70 years since they have been spotted. Highly dangerous.

Vampires

The well known children of the night have been reportedly around in Naveroth for over 1000 years, but its only in the last 40 or so years (starting with an event ofmassive vampire attacks called 'the uprising') in which they have been a visible terror threat to humanity.

Vampires are very hard to analyse as their attributes and abilities vary so much from individual to individual, but a few things remain constant. They all have enhanced strength and agility then they did as humans but this does not necessarily make them stronger and faster than every human. They cant be exposed to sunlight for any short amount of time. They also lack reflections and cant enter a civilian home without being invited but they can attack a hostile compound such as a military base.

Some can fly, some have magical abilities and some can feast on non human blood without becoming weaker over time. They can mostly be killed by conventional means, only a few have true undead resistance in which they could only be killed by destroying the brain or heart.

Many vampires live among humans and operate behind the scenes of society as aristocrats and criminal lords. There are also half human half vampires called Dhampnirs whos motivations seem to vary from person to person

Acolytes

Not all humans resist the strange terrors of the night, some have come to embrace it. The Acolytes are said to have splintered from a fringe cultist movement in the chess Islands roughly 100 years ago and have been dabbling in the dark arts ever since. They are determined to become one with what they should fear, whether it be making deals with demons and witches or sacrificing themselves to vampires and werewolves, they are willing to pay the ultimate price to become 'embraced by the night'. The religion of the Acolytes is varied and complex, but almost all sects are violent, insane and dangerous.

Demons

Demons take so many forms its hard to say anything definitive about them apart from the fact they spawn from a realm of the underworld and every action of theirs is to subvert and ultimately undo the good of humanity. They are dangerous in many different ways, some are beast like who tear the flesh off the innocent in vicious raids. Some are cunning humanoids who lie and manipulate to undo societies, there are no demon 'experts' only survivors.

Witches

'Witch' used to be a catch all term for any woman brazen enough to practice magic independently. But among the hunter's circles its something much more specific. The Witches are women who have delved too deep into a very toxic brand of black magic, the thirst for power is seductive, and black magic makes many promises, but also many demands. Practicing it for any long period of time takes a toll not only on the appearance of a woman but also her sanity, ultimately becoming a servant to the dark texts of their spell books or a slave to their deranged visions and prophecies.

Abominations

Magic plays no fault in the creation of these horrific beings, they are the fault of overly ambitious and sloppy science. The Abominations are the results of experiments on stray animals and unfortunate humans. Many of them die in these twisted labs, but the few who survive become something much much worse. They are said to live in constant pain, and attack people in the hope that someone can kill them and put them to rest once and for all.

The Undead

No one is quite sure who raised the dead, but they seemed to have been a constant nuisance since the beginning of civilization. There are rumors of a dark order of shamans who brought them about over a millenia ago, but that is unconfirmed. The undead are generally slow, dull-witted and easy to dispatch when there aren't too many of them, but there are almost always too many of them. They instinctively travel together in large crowds and follow the scent of living flesh together. Their 'infection' seems to vary on person to person.
