I guess my comfort zone is "eccentric side character."

I have a question.

General Abilities are abilities a character has from their game that they don't have innately. I interpreted that to mean that your character starts out with what they have at the beginning of a new game and then General Abilities encompass everything they can get through the course of gameplay. But then the example confused me because, while it's named after a special attack, the description reads to me like it encompasses Mario's whole jumping ability.

The reason I bring this up is that character I want to play, Amaterasu from Okami, starts out with the ability to draw the sun into the sky to make it daytime and I was confused as to whether that counted as a General Ability or should be filed under the umbrella of a Strength.
Interest.

Firebrands eyebrows perked up. "How much power?" he asked. "Enough to break this enchantment sending us in circles?" Demons didn't care much for any sort of god but considering he'd just refused a great temptation the reeked of some sort of cosmic reward. He looked over at the girl again. Didn't look like an angel, but how would a simple nurse get a hold of something like that?
The sun shone down brightly on a ratty little tent sitting just on the edge of the Thunder Woods, wind gently tugging at the flap to expose the black interior. A fire was already burning brightly out in front of it, the morning peaceful air only cut by the raging whistle of a kettle already brought to boil. Soon enough a boy emerged from out of the tent, young and lean, wrapped in a red shawl. He quickly made his way over to the kettle, wrapping his hand in the shawl to lift it off the rocks, before opening a tin can and scooping a dark brown powder into the water. Then he resealed the kettles and put it back on the hot rocks before catching a smell wafting out of the tent. His head jerked up and he dashed back inside.

He emerged later with a plate of slightly burned pancakes, a mug, and a saucer, and set the lot down beside a log he recommissioned as a seat the previous night to grab the kettle off the rock, which he just as quickly released with a yelp. He grabbed it using the shawl next time and, after cheeking the contents, plopped down on the log and poured the rich dark liquid within into the saucer and the mug. He set the saucer to the side and brought the mug up to his lips.

From the edges of the shawl little wriggling lights began to emerge, a whole swarm of them dancing around in the air as a sickly sweet scene began to fill the air. A few members of the swarm twirled down to the saucer, alighting around the edge and placing what passed for their heads into it causing small ripples to spread out over its surface. There came a whispering from the swarm, a gaggle of small and barely audible voices centered around the boys head as he set his own mug down. "I know it tastes like fish." he said gently. The whispering continued on as he grabbed one of the cakes off the plate and took a bite out of it. "We're out of cream." he said, throwing one of the cakes into the air. The remainder of the swarm ascended to catch it, swooping around and hiding it from view. By the time any of it reached the ground there were only crumbs, and even then the little things buried their heads greedily amid the undergrowth to search the out. The whispering grew louder. "We're out of syrup." He replied, throwing another pancake into the air. He leaned back to watch her go at this, minds eye looking far past her. They were out of a lot of things.

The knocking brought him back to attention. He snapped forward, looking into the forest. He could barely make out something grey coming out of the forest. At first he thought it was somebody wearing armor. Like some kind of medieval knight. That wasn't too surprising, considering the warrior women that'd already come this way earlier in the morning. No, though. This was different. Something about the way the stranger was moving wasn't right. Then he saw...well, he wasn't sure. Like a tin man. Or maybe something wearing the face of a man.

He made to dive back inside, but felt a thousand little hands on the neck of his collar. He stopped on instinct more than anything. "Come on Aerial, we don't know if that's a spirit folk or nothing. It wearing a face. At least let me get the gun." The hands held firm their grip, and the whispering began again. Gentler, comforts flowing into his ears. "He ain't?" He asked. The whispers intensified and he looked down. She was right. If they wanted to lead a carefree life he couldn't jump at every shadow in a beautiful place like this. Why had they come to Freeplaynia, if not because it seemed like a place you could live a carefree life? You couldn't do that, pointing guns at your neighbors.

The metal man would find the boy sitting on his log, shaking only a little. "H-h-h-hey." He said, like he had a frog wedged in his throat. "Morning. I'm new. A-a-around here, I mean. I just moved. I'm Ariel." He seemed to wither in the thing presence. He grabbed the kettle and thrust it out toward him. "Coffee? It's not any good, but its fresh. My dad said you should always be kind to other travelers."

@Serious Face
Name: "Ariel"
Species: Human
Age: 14
Gender: Male

Personality: A skittish sort filled with nervous energy, his posture evokes the image of an alert rabbit primed to run for his life. This nature worries him, as more than anything he wants to live a careless life, so he actively fights against his nature with varying degrees of success. Very hard too anger and flinches from confrontation. Is afraid of spirit folk and the smell of alcohol makes him physically ill.

Background: A fearless boy from a far off logging town of Shoggy Creek who'd spend his leisurely days hunting and camping on the mountains surrounding his home, until one day when he got befuddled by a sickly sweet wind and wandered up a twisting path to the forbidden Mt. Bald Head. There, waiting to trap him, was The Old Man of the Mountain.

The Old Man was a powerful spirit folk, huge like a thunderstorm, red faced, with craggy fists like an avalanche and a beard of sharp hooked briers. He hunted great dire animals up on Mt. Bald Head and commanded the fowl winds that occasionally blew down from the mountain, bringing all manner of weird occurrence. But he was a lazy spirit who spent most his time drunk, asleep, or both, and it was well known that he wouldn't take the time to bother anyone that didn't bother him. Except if he needed something.

He did need something. He'd been watching the boy and he liked how good he could handle himself around the woods. He liked how fast he ran, how he could hide where no one could find him, how he knew what and what not to eat to live out there. In fact, he was so impressed he was going to give the boy a job. He was going to be the playmate for the Old Mans hundreds of children. The old one, he explained, had gotten all worn out and busted and couldn't run anymore. With nary another word the Old Man scooped the boy up and put hung him in his beard, carrying him away to his cave at the top of the mountain.

The children, which he'd produced with all manner of ill wind that blew around the Mt. Bald Head, had inherited every ounce of his evil nature but none of his laziness. There was only one game that would get them out of the cave to let the Old Man drink in peace. They called it Chase, and it became the boys life. Every day he'd be set loose on the mountain at sunrise, and the children set out to catch him. Whoever did got to do whatever they wanted with him for the day, which usually set them to fighting well into the night before they slunk home for supper. Then the boy would be laid up in a hole and fed a special elixir that would give him the energy for the next day no matter how badly he'd been banged up yesterday.

This went on, day in an day out for who knows how long, until the day he was caught by Ariel. Ariel was different from the others. She was the youngest of them, the daughter of an unusual sweet wind that blew past the mountains maybe once in a thousand years, and managed to carry her mothers nature with her in the midst of the foulness that surrounded her. She was also very fast, but she never tried to catch his for fear of her siblings anger. One day though, after he took a particularly nasty stumble, she surged past the others to catch him. Then, in defiance of the tussling tug of war that normally ensued, she carried him away. All day and all night they moved together, well out of the reach of her siblings grasping claws. Then supper time came, and the children all grumbled their way home. But amidst the grumbling the boy and Ariel spoke in hushed whispers.

The next morning Ariel got up before sunrise, gathered up her fathers useful things, and hid them in the woods. Then, when it came time to Chase, he shot ahead of the others grabbed the boy before anything. Together they sprinted off down the mountain, gathering up the useful things, and running until Mt. Bald Head was nothing but a distant shadow echoing with screams of anger and disappointment.

Appearance: A short boy with a runners build, deeply tanned with short and curly blond hair and green eyes. His body is covered with old scars and bite marks, including a circle of tooth marks that ring his left eye and continue down his cheek before disappearing under his ear. His right shoulder is a mess of scar tissue, as though his arm had been popped off and then crudely reattached many times.

Outfits: He favors wearing long pants or overalls, long sleeved shirts, and a wide brimmed hat when outside. Most of it looks like its been extensively modified, cut and sewn to make it fit someone of a much smaller size. When outside he usually has a long red shawl wrapped around his neck and shoulders.

Siblings: Ariel, who manifests as a swarm of small, softly glowing orange figures gliding around his body on little wind streams. They look vaguely like people. There's a clear head and shoulders, although the head is a ball of light that floats just a little above the shoulders. Instead of arms they have crudely formed wing like appendages growing from their shoulders, and their legs are replaced with a wriggly little tail like tadpoles.

House: A tent, one of the useful things gathered by Ariel before they made good their escape. On the outside looks like a normal canvas tent that's not even fit for two men, held up by string and stakes, but it's remarkably sturdy. On the inside is a three room cabin. Most of it is taken up by a main room, where a wood-stove sits as the centerpiece of a cozy room that includes a large bed, wardrobe, writing desk, and a clutter of various knickknacks scattered on various shelves. Two doors in the wall open into a larder and a washroom. Because it's a tent, he can pack it up and move it whenever he feels like it.

Misc:

-Ariel can manipulate the wind, lightening loads and increasing speed. This, combined with agility and an uncanny ability to read terrain, allows the pair to move incredibly quickly. When Ariel is manifest the air is filled with a sickly sweet scent, like rotting peaches.

-Among the useful things stolen from the Old Man are an ax the chops wood all by itself, a broom that cleans by itself, a rifle whose bullet will seek out that heart of any prey animal the user fires it at, and a flute half full of that energy elixir.

-To make sure he couldn't go home the Old Man stole the boys name and scattered it to the ends of the earth via the wind. Because they're always together he just goes by her name.

We haven't even met our enemy yet.

No you're right. I read the name backwards and Kamijou looked feminine.
v2 was suddenly in the halls of a hospital. Everything stood still and silent. He whistled at the slight shimmer that emanated from the walls and floors, the distortion that seemed to be holding everyone in place. "You know, I fought a heartless that could do something like this once." he said causally. "Big purple-yellow guy, with rabbit ears and a clock for a face. Shut down Shibuya for a few days. The old men eventually had to bite the bullet and strap this untested flux capacitor to my back. They had no idea what was gonna happen, worst case I get copied into every conceivable moment throughout all time once I stepped into that frozen field but...I'm bragging." He said, confusion painting his face. In a moment he reached up and placed both hands against his face, feeling at the lids of his eyes and the contours of his mouth. "I'm emoting?"

Realization hit him like a backhanded slap. He placed one hand to his forehead. The movement didn't display any of the robots mechanical hyper-precision or speed, and as he stood taking in the fact that he would have noticed sooner if there wasn't something taking up processing power he moved slightly instead of holding stock still as he normally did. "I'm in Japan. In public, technically speaking." He glanced over at the picturesque presentation of purest love through the window of the door. As extraordinary as they were, and as thoroughly stopped as they were, they still counted as the general public. He didn't even have to look to know there were others in the building as well. The adoring public that needed a hero to save them. "There goes, like, what, 10 or 11 percent of my combat effectiveness right there. This is another Japan, this shouldn't count. I wouldn't even be complaining about this if I had my way, it's just something I have to affect."

Still, even if his thinking speed was diminished as this program was running he was still sharp and as he looked over the pair of girls an idea struck him. He walked over to the door, past Mai, and opened it to step inside and get a closer look at the scene. Then his internal communicator clicked on. "v2 to Manisa League. We've arrived successfully and the girl is safe, for now. I'd like to arrange another teleportation to take them out of this room, right to med-bay if that's possible. If not I'm just going to have to find a closet to hide them in. I'd ask Taka to extract them but he's out looking for the enemy. I didn't have this idea nearly as fast as I would have normally."
