RULES OF NATURE!

Huzzah we begins!?
<Snipped quote by Rilla>

Simpler yes, but rather limiting. Not to mention there's only so many elements you can use before you start to repeat. A base line and good CS tamplate, that can be modified if needed, might much easier for newbies as most I see are just learning the ropes. Like myself. Not to mention, having closely formatted CSes might allow it be to be easier to compared stats and create a positive habit while still allowing creative freedom. Also, maybe a list of powers examples considered too powerful for the tourney level might also help newbies scale their creativity to the proper levels. At least know what might be considered a bad idea or request ideas of how to limit it down. Creativity is just as much as part of the arena as actual writing and balance, at least last I knew.

Exactly my thoughts I couldn't agree more.

Yeah, a format template with more carefully considered stat limits would be good for a fair tourny. Something interesting would be a base human template, with average strength speed and agility, and then the option to min-max on those stats, followed by a low level power.

Almost like a battle between DnD characters.

I actually made a test format in OLDguild with that 5v5 that laid witness to the tragic horse incident of 2013, and have been thinking about remaking one for this guild complete with a basic class system of sorts. That mostly follows the TVtrops of Glass Canon and The Wall, etc, thus making characters allot more balanced overall, rather then them ending up with prefect strength, speed, and endurance.

Hopefully it will also prevent mini-maxing that Skalla managed, giving himself Godly in every skill set. >.>

Cause the gods forbid he make a character anyone has a chance against, but I digress. See where was this kind of feed back when I asked Chat months/weeks ago? I'll probably install in into the next 5v5 I do, and due to it being only Tier 1's as well as being a group match up (which people prefer going into if it's their first time it seems) it will be a prefect place for rookies to get their feet wet, if I can find the time with all the stuff going on.

Interesting stuff.

Oh, for future reference in other fights, if your going to use 50. cal sniper as your base for potential pounds of energy. You should probably think about 'Which' sniper rifle your' talking about, they tend vary widely even if they use the same caliber.
@Impaqt I see you online boy!

Tell me you have internet. ^^

Though if your on your phone I'll know from your continued silence.

Of course they happened, that does not change the fact they were undesirable.

What kind of commander wants a melee?
Skallagrim must of missed that talk.

Where do you get this idea that melees are avoided?

Me·lee (mā′lā′, mā-lā′) also mê·lée (mĕ-lā′)
n.
1. A confused struggle or fight at close quarters. See Synonyms at brawl.
2. A confused tumultuous mingling, as of a crowd: the rush-hour melee.

Melee's only happen outside of formations, I.E, when all chaos and hell's breaks loose, and you're in a position you can't tell friend from foe.

Yes they were avoided if possible.
I'll assume the castle has a Sally port. What castle doesn't?

No doubt, I'm also a realist in that I know I wouldn't let something like honour stop me from killing an opponent in a life or death situation, but Arena isn't about you or me, it's about combats that are supposed to mean something, and I think a duel better represents that. If one person draws a gun, fires, and kills his opponent, that fight hasn't meant a damn. I doubt the person who shot the guy would even give a shit, considering how easy his victory was won. Now, if there was a huge build up to that one shot (like most Westerns) it might mean something, but we don't really have time to do that in Arena, as the RP element has to come through predominantly in the combat itself, a gunfight (I believe) doesn't effectively create that narrative. That's the main issue with guns, for me.

Yes all those codes existed and only applied in certain situations. You are a romantic Melon. Warfare is brutal and deadly, those codes would be hardpressed to follow in a melee.

Melees were pretty rare in pitched battles. They did descend into total bloodshed of both sides resulting in no real winner. Hence why they were avoided.

I think the real point is that guns are very good at killing people. Which I believe results in allot more deaths compared to battles of the past. I mean, you have a hard time having 'friendly fire' when your only weapon is a long pointy object.
