Name: Ajax-Vei
Aliases: Chases-the-Horizon, Ocean-Scales, Walks-the-Shore, Scouts-Darkest-Depths (Current)
Age: 32
Sex: Male
Race: Argonian
Class: Bard
Skills
  • Racial Abilities: Claws and Tail, Histskin, Waterbreathing
  • Primary Skills: Dodging, Lockpicking, Long Blade
  • Secondary Skills: Climbing, Mercantile, Stealth
  • Spell List: See Equipment
  • Combat Style: Tsaesci Martial Arts. The dual-bladed combat style used by the vampiric man-serpents of Akavir. As stated by the Tsaesci Potentiate in the First Era to Emperor Reman Cyrodiil III: "We don't have shields in our culture. In our country, if you don't want to get hit, you move out of the way.” It is a style that places agility and skill to protect oneself over armor and shields. Traditionally, it has many flashy, acrobatic techniques, and takes full advantage of everything the practitioner has at his disposal, not the very least being that they have a tail and their enemies tend not to.

Ajax-Vei, having learned the style from a series of old documents in ruins hidden deep within Tamriel, has modified it slightly to suit his purposes better. He's stripped away or altered many unnecessarily showy techniques, and combined the style with combat doctrines gleaned from Argonian culture and his battles as a pirate - such as the use of guerrilla tactics and underwater combat, light armor, and sabres instead of katanas - as well as magic via the use of scrolls and enchanted objects found during his travels to 'bring the boom', both literally and metaphorically. In short, it could be said that he took a style well-suited to his race, haphazardly mashed together various loosely-related concepts, and come out of it with something that works surprisingly well.
Equipment
  • Weapons: Dual Steel Sabres, 5 Scrolls (1 Dispel Magic, 2 Fire Damage, 1 Shock Damage, 1 Tongues)
  • Armor: College Robes; Leather Pauldrons, Vambraces, and Boots; Cloak
  • Miscellaneous: Lockpicks, Money, Torches
Background: A pirate, a master of the Akaviri martial arts, a treasure hunter, a historian, an archaeologist, and a scholar of ancient knowledge - Ajax-Vei, currently known under the name 'Scouts-Darkest-Depths', has accomplished many things and experienced so much in his relatively short time on Nirn.

Like most Saxhleel he born in the swamps of the Black Marsh, on the 7th of the Evening Star. From a young age, Ajax-Vei had aspirations of becoming something greater than he was, of living a grand life full of riches and adventure around every corner. However, not everyone thought that this line of thought was a very good one, and they began calling him 'Chases-the-Horizon'. Originally it was a way to mock his so-called 'pipe-dream', an endless pursuit of something impossible to reach, but it soon caught on and became a name Ajax-Vei took pride in. His time in the Black Marsh ended when he set off alone from home into the wilds to sate his wanderlust, to chase that endless horizon.

Ajax-Vei travelled eastward until he reached Soulrest, along the southwestern coast. It was here he managed to persuade the captain to allow him to join the crew of the pirate ship The Storm Treader. Though his stay in Soulrest was short, the many lessons his naive young self learned there would last him a lifetime and save him a great deal of pain and coin.

The rest of his adolescent years - under the name 'Ocean-Scales', given by one who does not understand the ways of the Hist - were spent on the high seas, travelling all across the coasts of Tamriel, seizing goods from merchant ships and learning the tricks of the trade. It was all well and good, he had plenty of coin to throw around and his desire for adventure was adequately sated. Unfortunately their actions attracted the attention of the Empire, who proceeded to send a shop to catch up to them, sink their ship, take them all prisoner, and sail them back to Cyrodiil for prison or execution as necessary. However, Ajax-Vei managed to prevent this fate by reclaiming the ship with the help of his fellow crewmates. They had managed to secure their freedoms, but they were all still wanted men - even more so once news of their escape reached Imperial ears - so they were forced to go their separate ways.

After their great escape, Ajax-Vei aimlessly wandered the lands of Tamriel, taking odd jobs to keep himself going. He took up a new identity. 'Walks-the-Shore', the Argonian pilgrim/mercenary/whatever fits the situation. He had found a calling, and it was taken away from him. This existential crisis didn't last long, however. Ajax-Vei took up a relatively innocuous job. Escort a group of scholars into an Akaviri ruin and assist in locating new findings. Simple enough. Paid well too. Little did he know it would be the job that would inspire the direction of his life from that day forth.

With his new calling in hand, Ajax-Vei took to delving into ancient ruins and scouring the ends of the Tamriel to search for treasures long-lost and knowledge forgotten, whether for himself, a client, or the highest bidder.
Where Are You: Alik'r Desert
As I mentioned earlier, Ajax-Vei is definitely inspired by the likes of Indiana Jones and Edward Kenway, which is evident in pretty much any way you look at it. He's also definitely the kind of dude that would go and work for Hermaeus Mora in exchange for endless dark and eldritch knowledge.

No idea which Intrinsic Class he falls into properly, so I went with Bard because of the whole 'Bards tell history' thing, and the fact that they're the Jack of All Trades class. Plus in DnD, Bards have 'Use Magic Device', which is very fitting. My other options were Thief, Burglar, and Rogue. If anyone thinks one of those/something else is a better fit, speak up.

Also, Swimming isn't a skill because he's a bloody Argonian. Same for Ettiquette and Streetwise. Argonians in lore aren't good with the whole social nuance aspect. Best stick to waving moneys around with Mercantile.
Tonight.
Yeah, but I'm making Argonian Indiana Jones! What're you more likely to use from a crypt full of treasures, a few scrolls or some age-old potions?

...Well, it's ES, so probably both. But you get my meaning.
Can I use Scrolls as a substitute for actual spell knowledge? and if so, how many scrolls per spell?
"Hmm? Sure Fajardo-san! I'll have some of th- aaaaaaaah!"

And just like that, they started and ended a road trip that was more akin to high-speed road chase than a controlled outing. Akihiko clung to the bottom of his seat, nails digging into the material, body tensed, and eyes widened, staring at the windshield with a slight twitching motions. Well, at least it was over for now. Nevertheless, he made a mental note to prepare a shielding or stability spell for the return trip. He'd survived this round, but better safe than sorry. His body slowly relaxed as Akihiko reached for his seatbelt, unbuckling it before a sudden grip was felt on his shoulder. He tensed up again before turning his head behind him at the Arabic artisan staring at him.

Akihiko blinked.

Amjad-kun stared.

The moment of silence was defeaning.

Amjad-kun nodded and brushed past Akihiko, who blinked once more.

'...That was weird,' the Japanese theurge thought before following the peculiar child out the door and towards the Western mansion. Honestly, he would've expected more of a traditional Japanese household, what with the name of Daidouji and being an old, big family. Then again, a traditional Japanese house wasn't all that good comparatively in the security department, so it made enough sense to him. The doors opened to reveal a girl that gave off the same vibe and acted quite like someone he knew from his old school. A guy that sat in the mid-back, studied diligently, and wasn't too good with class presentations. Of course, she was obviously much cuter than him, but the point stood.

As they were guided through the mansion, Akihiko had to note how obviously large it was - surely bigger than his modest former home- as well as the omnipresence of maids running about. Akihiko let his thoughts wander, since not much was really happening.

'...Maybe one of the maids did it? There was always something weird in those mystery books ("budget mystery solving theory/training") from the library about butlers and crimes. Could this be a case of gender inversion?!'

'...No wait. That was a dumb idea.'

'But wait! Perhaps these were all mundane maids who didn't know much about magic, and thus were susceptible to the effects ofwhattheheckisIwajima-kundoing?'
Always cool with Ass Creed.
I'm here. I'll do my best to shoot off a post tomorrow
Gah, writing out my in-game Reachman Witchhunter is proving much harder than expected, 'specially with the lack of lorestuffs to work with >.>

Eh, whatever. I have a few other concepts I can work with. Besides, we've already got a Daedra hunter, so an anti-mage seems a wee redundant to me.

Also, Automation, Dispel Daedra/Undead spells fall under Mysticism in Daggerfall, along with a bunch of other spells of varying convenience for a Daedra smiter.
Abaddon had been... peculiarly quiet ever since departing from the Golden Tablet. He hadn't exchanged too much witty banter with anyone, nor done much apart from nod, shake his head, shrug, or indifferently walk on like some kind of marching machine. Though perhaps that last point was merely a testament to his experience delivering packages all across Mirasoria. Nevertheless, it could've been considered quite strange to see the brash gunman from before reduced to an almost complete and utter silence.

And it hadn't even ended yet! Apart from ordering his meal, there was nary a peep as the gunslinger sat at the table, dismantled gun receiving its regularly scheduled maintenance in eerie silence. Every now and then, he'd take a few seconds to drink or eat, before running his hand through Aura's hair, as if petting a cat or some such domestic animal.

TCHK!

Abaddon's silence was broken by a long exhale upon finishing maintenance upon The Cannon. He looked down to Aura, making sure she was as sound asleep as she seemed. "...Well," he finally said, tucking his gun into its holster, "Thank god kid's asleep now. You don't know what it's like having to keep your goddamn mouth shut an' your body all 'relaxed' an' shit for a dozen frickin' hours." Truly it did feel really fucking good to not have to worry about being a bad influence to children with 'unnecessary' words or actions.

"Anywho, back to business," Abaddon continued, rubbing his hands together, "What'cha say about the Mage's Guilds might be true - might not, I'm no spellslinger - but ain't this 'Saren Harlaus' bastard a Drakovian-born? I'm not usually one for gamblin', but I'm willing to bet that he has friends or family to help 'im out. Who would go refugee if they were hauling 'round some shady artifact that does who-knows-what-the-fuck, when he can get a few trusty pals to back his sorry ass up? If I were a Mage's Guildee, I'd drop that sumbitch, rules be damned if I learned he could do some crazy, world-domination shit with some two second spell and a magic thingamajig. And if I were Saren, I wouldn't take that fuckin' chance."

That said, Abaddon slunk back into his seat.
EDIT: Ninja'd

But swords have dat reach (but TBH I'm more a shortsword kind of person, which - along with the bow - is the Bound Weapon I'm gunning for)

Besides, Bound Daggers are still... Ebony quaility, IIRC?

And yeah, that last bit is pretty much what I mean (along with sensible alternative applications of certain spells, but I figure that can wait for later)
