PrologueBack in July, I got two tickets for an AC/DC concert on September 25. One I kept for myself, obviously, and the other I gave to the only one my friends who was interested in going (You may know him as the previous GM of this RP: The Irish Tree). And so we waited for the day of the concert.
Are We There Yet?The concert is in San Francisco at 8:00 AM, so I pick up Tree at 4:00 and we start heading for the City by the Bay. What should have been a 2 hour drive becomes 2 and a half because of the traffic near the toll booth to get on the Bay Bridge, we still got another hour though so we're not worried. As we're crossing the bridge, we turn the radio on and start singing along to
We Built This City by Starship because singing a song about San Fran while in San Fran is cool.
A Bridge Too FarAs soon as, and I mean
right after, we get off the bridge and get in the city, we see some kind of protest. This is San Francisco though so it's no normal protest, it's about 50 naked old guys riding bicycles with a police escort. So, after another 30 minutes pass, we somehow make it through San Francisco's horrendous traffic (seriously, did whoever design the streets think that no one will ever want to make a left hand turn?) and finally get to the parking garage. Unfortunately, the only parking spaces still available were compact and I can't get my car to fit in compact spaces. Fortunately, the one guy working security offered to help and we finally park. As we start to walk away, I realize the windows are still rolled down and go start the car again so I can roll them up. That's when tragedy strikes. I turn the key but the car won't start, it only makes this repeated clicking noise. I try jiggling the gear shift. I try putting it in neutral and rolling the car back and forth. Nothing. We now have 30 minutes left and we can see the line to get inside the stadium getting longer, so we put anything not nailed down in the trunk and hope whatever's wrong will fix itself by the time we get back.
Are You Ready to Rock!?The line to get inside goes quick, but as soon as we're inside Tree says he needs to use the restroom. As I'm waiting outside the stalls for him to do his business, I see a guy start snorting cocaine on one of the toilet paper dispensers. Tree soon finishes and we make our way to our seats. Our first mistake of the day soon catches up with us though, neither of us brought warm clothing. At least Tree's got jeans and an over-shirt though. All I have is a t-shirt and shorts. How neither of us got hypothermia I will never know. We're also hungry though because we had planned on getting dinner after parking and before the concert, but because of all the time spent trying to figure out the car situation we were unable to do so. Freezing and starving, a great combination. From 8:00 to 8:30 some band I've never heard of tries to get everyone pumped though you can tell most people aren't interested and just want AC/DC to start already, the opening band was in no way bad though in me and Tree's opinion. From 8:30 to 9:00 they're setting up, doing sound checks, etc. Then the real show starts. For the next 2 hours we are treated to awesome singing by Brian Johnson, rad guitar playing by Angus Young, heart-pounding drums by Chris Slade, and cool bass playing from Cliff Williams. The concert eventually ends and we spend 30 minutes trying to get back to the car because of all the foot traffic.
A MiracleWell, Tree and me are back at the car but it still doesn't want to cooperate. The garage closes in half an hour and the tow truck won't arrive for another full hour. And so we wait there until the garage closes. When that happened, the guy running the garage tells us that we have to leave or be stuck in there until morning. I put the key in, ready to put it in neutral and have Tree push it so we can park it on one of the sidewalks, but something happens. Instead of turning it enough to allow me to unlock the gear shift, I accidentally turn it all the way and this time the engine finally starts. After much hype, I call back AAA to tell them we no longer need a tow truck and we head make our way home.
Instant KarmaWe've got smooth sailing up until we get to the Carquinez Bridge. Another toll, another several minutes spent in bumper-to-bumper traffic. This time though, there's no one trying to cut in front of us like the Bay Bridge so it's going pretty smooth. That is, right until the end. We're about 5 cars away from the actual booth when I car full of about 3 or 4 girls pulls up next us, politely asking if they can get in front of us. Seeing no reason to say no, I let them in and think nothing of it. We get to the toll booth a couple minutes later and are about to hand the money over when the person running the booth tells us the car we let in front of us payed our toll for us. And so we continue on, feeling happy that we were instantly rewarded for a small, good deed. Eventually we get dinner at Jack in the Box, making sure to use the drive-thru because we're not completely sure if the car will start again if we turn the engine off, and an hour later we finally get home.
Final ReviewOverall, a good night. 10 out of 10. Would have car break down again.
