If you are a fan of Warhammer 40,000 or Age of Sigmar, let me know. Maybe we can put together an RP. I play Ironjawz & Kruleboyz in AOS and Salamanders & Drukhari in 40K.

Bio

I am a veteran of the United States Army and the US Army National Guard. I spent three years on Active Duty serving in the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Ft. Carson, CO, and the 3rd Armor Division at Kirch Göns, West Germany. I spent 18 years in the Army National Guard with the 26th Infantry Division "Yankee" and 29th Infantry Division (Light), "The Blue and the Gray". I was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina with the 29th ID (L) in 2001 - 2002. I have also been reading military history articles and books since I was 10 years old. I do prefer Military Role Plays over all other genres, primarily because I have a vast knowledge of the subject including personal experiences. At the very least, my characters are always veterans.

I have been writing for pleasure for at least 35+ years but only got into forum-based Role Playing about eighteen years ago. I do enjoy Nation Role Plays and get into minute detail when designing my military. The only reason I enjoy excruciating detail in my militaries is because for me, it is fun. My education and experience on this subject afford me the insight to see the depth of the structure. It is not just a General and a large pile of soldiers. If someone wants assistance in designing an army, navy, or air force, please send me a PM. I will help. Please specify what level (echelon) or depth you would like me to go. When I say echelon, I mean Army, Corps, Division, Brigade/Regiment, Battalion/Squadron, Company/Troop/Battery, Platoon, and Squad/Section.

When I was a student in High School, I used to play Dungeons & Dragons. Recently, I have been DMing a 5e campaign of my creation for my son and his friends. 5e is so much less cumbersome than earlier editions of D&D. I do have an interest in Tolkien-esque fantasy-styled Role Plays as well. Time travel has always been a fun genre for me, but to do it well, one must have a firm grasp of historical facts.

There are only a few fanfictions I will participate in; Star Wars and Star Trek are two of them. I want to do an exclusively Klingon RP one of these days. I also avoid Canon characters.

I have real-world martial arts experience. I would love to write an RP about hand-to-hand combat, no fantasy magic chit, just hands elbows, knees, and feet. Maybe the occasional head butt thrown in to mix things up. I trained in Krav Maga for six and a half years. I earned a first-degree black belt in Krav Maga on 3 June 2017.

Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art form that employs practical self-defense techniques drawing forms & techniques from Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Taekwando. It is very brutal, demanding, and aggressive. During the seven years I trained, I have bruised two ribs, sustained several muscle pulls, and various lacerations and bruises over my body. I have received a sprained ankle and a fractured wrist. Before the first black belt test, I received a bone bruise to my right shin; where my roundhouse kicks impact. Yet, I am stupid enough to continue training. [Regardless of the physical pain, it is more fun than any other physical activity I have engaged in. Fortunately, the bone bruise healed up prior to the third and final test. EDIT: I did leave the sport over five years ago. :(]

Over two years ago I completed my first novel, a science fiction set in the 24th century. It focuses on a Private Military Corporation solely employed by the earth government. I started a second book in November 2022 and hope to work on that this summer when I have more time.

Send me a PM for a Role Play or if you would like to see what sort of an army I could build for you.

Character Name: Roland Griff
Nickname: "Griff"
Character Age: 21

Character History: Roland Griff grew up in Southeastern Massachusetts, near the Rhode Island border. His father, Arthur served in the First World War as an infantryman in the Big Red One. He was injured at The Battle of Saint-Mihiel in September 1918. He returned home after convalescing in a French Hospital and found employment working for Jostens Jewelers factory in North Attleboro, MA. He married Henrietta Ludwig of Foxborough, MA and they purchased a family home on South Washington St.

Arthur and Henrietta had five sons and two daughters; William, 25; Robert, 23; Roland, 21; Margaret, 20; Janet, 18; James, 16 and Richard, 13. Arthur did quite well for himself, receiving a promotion to production supervisor and then in September, 1929 he was promoted to Production Manager. Although the depression slowed business for the Jewelery manufacturing company, they retained most of their employees -- only three of their newest were let go. The family did not go without during the depression, but did practice frugality.

Roland was not the brightest in his class and did struggle with reading at an early age. By the time he arrived at secondary education at North Attleboro Junior High School, he caught up with his peers. Roland preferred sports over academics like most boys his age.

Roland and his friends enjoyed playing football, baseball and boxing. They called it boxing, but it was more like bare-fisted brawling. No one was upset with each other during these play-fights, which more often than not ended up with someone getting a black eye or a split lip. On one occasion, Roland broke a bone in his pinkie finger of his right hand, but never told anyone about. Sure it was tender, but it healed up naturally. In those days, boys fighting on the playground or in a park on the way home from school was normal. No one batted at an eye at watching a couple of boys fight. In fact, some people would stop to observe or put money on one boy over another.

Roland's parents became increasingly concerned about the rumblings of war in Europe and the new Chancellor of Germany, Adolf Hitler. He appeared to be a very charismatic figure attracting many followers in his own country. He implemented socialistic policies which helped the people of Germany. The Griffs were frightened by the man and worried that he would eventually drag the US into a European War. They preferred the US remain out of it.

Roland paid no attention to what was going on in Europe and had no knowledge of what was happening in China. The events leading up to what would become World War II could have been happening on Mars for all Roland cared. They were foreign events with absolutely no impact on his sports and school filled world in the small town of North Attleboro, Massachusetts.

Roland graduated High School in 1939 and took a machinist job at the Jostens company working with his father. He didn't mind working for his dad initially but after a year, he quickly grew tired of having to listen to his father's speeches both at home and at work. 'There must be another opportunity', he would often question internally. But would never say anything to his parents about this, in fear of some unspoken repercussion.

Finally, in August of 1940, he had enough and joined the Army, just to get away from his father. Roland spent the next 14 weeks in Basic Combat Training and Advanced Infantry Training before being assigned to Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division then stationed at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, New York. Roland was indoctrinated in the ways of an Infantryman in the US Army and went with his unit to Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 4 February 1941. While at Ft. Devens, Roland learned the role of a Scout, BAR gunner, Assistant BAR gunner, Sharpshooter and grenadier. His platoon leader felt it important that every soldier in the platoon be familiar with each of the jobs in the squad.

As part of their training, the 1st Infantry Division participated in both Carolina Maneuvers of October and November before returning to Fort Devens on 6 December 1941. While participating in the Carolina maneuvers, Roland received extensive training as a member of a rifle squad. His squad participated in combat patrols and reconnaissance patrols. He went on ambush patrols and reconnaissance and security patrols. His squad and platoon participated in platoon and company Defense training as well as infantry company on the attack.

After returning to Ft. Devens, Roland considered taking leave to go see his family in North Attleboro. After all, they were only about an hour away. Then, on December 7th, 1941 at approximately 2:30 PM, the local news station in Boston, MA announced that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in an unprovoked raid that killed several thousand Americans and sunk several of the United States' first line capital ships to the bottom of the harbor. Many American warplanes and facilities were seriously damaged or destroyed during the Japanese raid.

The news of this attack shocked Roland Griff. He knew nothing of what was going on in Asia and was now confronted with the reality of war, which was declared the next day by the Congress of the United States of America. The weeks following the attack on Pearl Harbor was a cathartic time for 20-year old Private First Class Roland Griff. Now was the time to take the training he had been enduring seriously.

On January 2nd, 1942 Roland Griff was promoted to Corporal and assigned as Assistant Squad Leader of 2nd Squad, 1st Platoon, E Company, 2-16 IN. Over the course of the next three months, the members of E Company were split up, promoted and sent to various unit to take Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant positions of newly forming units. Corporal Roland Griff was then elevated to the Squad Leader position of 2nd Squad, 1st Platoon.

During this time, the 1st Division was returned to Ft. Benning, Georgia and then against sent to Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania awaiting deployment orders to Europe. On 1 May 1942, Corporal Roland Griff was promoted to Sergeant, five days before his 21st before; 6 May 1942.

He received several new recruits into his squad including the following personnel

Corporal Leonard Hathaway, assistant squad leader of Hoboken, New Jersey
Private First Class Richard Fairson, the squad's BAR gunner from Bakersfield, California
Private Ross Michaels, the assistant BAR gunner from Clearwater, Florida
Private First Class Connor O'Shaughnessy, sharpshooter from Quincy, Massachusetts
Private Heath Zewinski, Grenadier from Knoxville, Tennessee
Private First Class Jeremy Husk, scout rifleman of Great Falls, Montana
Private Timothy Gritch, scout rifleman of Flagstaff Arizona
Private Raymond Lyles, rifleman of Medford, Oregon
Private Daniel Mathews, rifleman of Dodge City, Kansas
Private Robert Zalinski, rifleman of Albany, Georgia
Private George McCulloch, rifleman of San Antonio, Texas

Nationality: American
Selection: Enlisted
Preference: Infantry
Example Play: Training Op -- Conduct an Ambush at FIG, PA:
I would vote for Operation Torch, 8 November 1942 as our Start point.
Would you mind if I RP'd both an American and a German?
I'm not here to win anything, just write a story.
I haven't decided on whether to go NCO/EM or Officer. I was enlisted on Active duty and only advanced to Specialist (E4), but then attended Officer Candidate School in the Guard and became a Second Lieutenant. In all honesty, the more fun job is the NCO. He is closer to the action; hence more to write about. But I may go the O route. Who knows?

EDIT: I'm going to start off EM. There is always the option of a Battlefield Commission! See Audie Murphy
I also am interested, having first hand knowledge of military life as well as reading MILHIST for most of my life. I could handle just about any theater, but would prefer US or UK v. Germany. Following the path of a unit through various regions of the world, would be an interesting method of maintaining continuity. You could use a real historical unit like the 1st ID (US) or 505th PIR, 82 ID (ABN) or even the 7th Armoured Division (UK) which received the nickname "Desert Rats" for their actions in North Africa in 1940. Or you could simply make up your own unit...

Right, just to check are we basing this on the 1989 ORBAT that's floating around, or...?
Yes, sir. I got this from Dutchbag: 1989 Order of Battle
I put Wargame: AirLand Battle on my wish list. I'll get it as soon as I can. If you guys use Steam, this is my Profile.

Anyone here play Wargame by any chance?
I've played several war games over the past 35 years. Is there one particular game you play in particular?
Watch out for these guys operating in our rear areas...

Hey, hi - following on from the discussion on Facebook, I'm posting so you know it's me, and to re-iterate the interest in playing some form of helicopter unit, either attack, reconnaissance or some other form of battlefield close support.I've always had a fondness for the Kiowa and the Supercobra (though I think only the US Marines use those?), and I'll do some more research into what forces in Europe used various aircraft around the timeframe of the 80's. I hope I come up to the standards, and thanks for letting me join in. I'm interested to see what happens.

Yes, the SuperCobra was made specifically for the USMC. I saw your discussion regarding the A-10s and believe it or not they were the most abundant aircraft on the battlefield that I saw in the 1980s.

An Attack helicopter Company of this era would consist of two AH-1s in the Company Headquarters section, one for the CO and one for the XO. Their Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) would be a Warrant Officer. There are also two Attack platoons consisting of an OH-58C Kiowa and two AH-1 Cobras. The Kiowa scouts "Battle Positions" for the Cobras. The Platoon Leader is a Lieutenant and the other pilots and WSOs are Warrant Officers. The Company has a total of six AH-1 Cobras and two OH-58Cs.

On another note, I got Drogo for which Game of Thrones Character I would be.
