Hot dogs are already cooked. Might as well just sear them to add flavor.

If you take college seriously, it opens doors. Harvard and Hopkins makes it easier, but you can do well anywhere.

Prefer to brainstorm on Discord for that reason.

The guild is currently experiencing instability. If we are continuing this RP, we may have to make sure we can run it even if this place goes down temporarily. Best bet is to use Discord to coordinate.
I'm okay with multiple characters, though I think we should make primary characters and side characters, which would include antagonists and so forth. We might need to start a Trello or similar collaborative bulletin board to keep track of these efforts, however.

What I was going for was more of a comparison of a butterfly emerging from a cocoon, so the original person's spirit didn't leave the body, they literally just evolved and broke out of her old body and left it behind as a shell. With what I had in mind, there isn't a new spirit in the shell either. She isn't alive in any way, if anything she could probably be best described as an empty puppet reanimated through magic. The general idea is that she shouldn't be up and walking around, but the whole uprising of magic was able to effect even a discarded shell and give it a consciousness.

Sure, I just think that a spirit going in where the soul was would make an interesting plot twist. It was a suggested modification and it could have significant plot ramifications depending on what sort of spirit is. Who or what that spirit is would play a huge role in the unfolding plot.

I did originally have more physical alterations for Jay, but I wasn't too sure about them and figured it was just best to post the base character first so that it'd be easier to change things if needed.

I was going to give her gray/white hair as a sort of way to signify that the life was drained out of her, but I felt like it might be too anime-ish and held back on it. Also, I should say now that the inspiration for her is actually a Pokemon, Shedinja. So because of that I was going to also give her a hole in the back of her head, but I was worried that might be too much of a blatant rip off. What's your opinion on these?

Well, what we're shooting for is a relationship to actual mythology and folklore here. I mean, her original spirit went somewhere (coma, perhaps?) and something else took over. That's all cool. I was just thinking, what if it was a dead person's spirit that was floating in limbo and found its way in there? I mean, whole different set of memories in someone else's brain, it's bound to be hard to remember much when the software and the hardware are not compatible, right?

Maybe a long-dead spirit, totally bewildered by the current world and, sure, experiencing amnesia. Conveniently, knows snippets of an ancient Native American language?
So far so good, though on the balance of 'developed powers' versus 'undeveloped powers' I feel like people should be aware that if they are taking innate powers now, they are probably locking themselves down a bit. I want to figure out how to strike a balance. I also think that it's not a bad idea to have characters that have physical feature alterations to contend with in some way, things that give them away.

This is a setting about tension, and I think having characters that are on the run and confused is a very good start.
Is this still alive and kicking?

Yes. I had a massive migraine yesterday, but I'm back today and we've been hammering out details in the Discord.
That sounds like an interesting character concept, there'd be a lot of ways to use his abilities and he'd definitely be a good way to bring the cast together like you said. My character would be interested in his abilities too, since he might be able to decipher answers that mine is looking for.

Though I have a question about the character template. I've been working on it, and I just now noticed at the bottom in the Possesions section that it says our characters are in an internment camp. I thought they hadn't been caught yet, is this a typo or am I misunderstanding it?

Sorry, it's a typo. I'll fix.
Also, I think the big driver of economic problems isn't necessarily unemployment in and of itself, but that transportation costs go up and this is an import-dependent country. That will slaughter consumer goods prices and affect everything else that depends on transportation, such as manufacturing materials, natural resources and so forth.

Anyway, the transportation will drive the unemployment as businesses shed jobs to make it work.

I mentioned fallout shelters because that's happening in the real world as an example of the freaky sort of industries that get driven by people's fear.

That said, my idea is that I am going to probably play a linguistics student staying back in Haye because of reasons; either parental/family pressure or the school itself having dealt with some sort of massive problem. The idea will be that he can see writing everywhere but has to work to decipher this stuff. I'm still toying with how to implement that concept, but I felt that we need a reason everyone's coming together and it makes sense that a specific character that can identify other emergents would make a good driver for that.

This is all just idea stuff, let me know what you think!
I'm not sure there would be new classes, but mythology and folklore classes would be more popular...but also potentially the target of law enforcement attention, given that we're talking about ICE as our model.
Also, I am batting around ideas, but I was thinking of how the precariousness of the situation with magic all around is affecting employment, school and everyday life. This could even extend to travel by air, land or sea, how people take vacations. There's an economic impact in all this, I would imagine.

I was speculating about that because I was thinking of playing a college student of some sort that stayed home that semester due to the upheavals of Emergence, particularly when the spirits started popping out, as that came after people started manifesting magical abilities. I feel like certain industries (guns and home security for example, but maybe also traditional folk defenses against darkness, religious icons and so forth) are experiencing a boom as people focus money on safety.

Thoughts?

Edit: Oh, and fallout shelter sales in Texas. It's a sector that's recently experienced growth. That was a thought that came to mind too; it was featured on 60 minutes. Another thought is that if overland transportation is more dangerous due to magical phenomena, prices go up. This compounds with the economic environment and negatively impacted sectors and exacerbates economic difficulty. Overall, I'd say we're looking at a setting in recession.
